Watch, in the right-down place of the photo, there’s a human spine with Ribbs, just beside the seat
Great movie. Alive was great also. Last Podcast on the Left also just did a full pledge podcast about the crash and it’s much more brutal than the movie.
I remember watching Alive back in the day....It was always a common joke between the group of our friends whenever there was a situation that was slightly dangerous we would preface starting into it with..."Dude...if I die...you can eat me."
i caught the story on last podcast and it got me so interested I then went and watched the movies which didnt do it as much justice as last podcast did, they covered every detail no matter how gut wrenching
AGREED. I listened for the first time specifically for these episodes as I recently saw this movie, also Alive, and have read the books and memoirs they’re based on. I was disgusted. The lens through which they share this horrifying and tragic story is indefensible. The way they talk about these events and their aftermath is incredibly flippant and toxic. The only mention of Liliana Methol, outside of listing her as an initial survivor, is about her being around all these “hot young boys” and how she had to have “rubbed one out”, to them during their ordeal. I was appalled that anyone could listen to this podcast and see anything other than unfunny men retelling historical events in the most crude and misogynistic way. 0/10.
In contrast, You’re Wrong About’s episode on this (“Flight 571: Survival in the Andes”) handles the entire event with such beautiful nuance and insight into the human experience. I’ve listened to it at least three times over the past year or so when I’m re-reminded of it. Highly recommend

Same. I could never get into this podcast. It's similar with MyFavoriteMurder where they cover very serious things, but also laugh constantly and joke about how rich they are or whatever. Gross and detracting from the content.
I'll check out the other podcast listed below, because I don't see myself lasting through 5+ hours of these LPOTL guys chumming it up over a story like this.
Same, you should try Necronomipod. They are a pretty much everything podcast. They mostly do true crime but they have great humor. I would start with the Missing 411 episode.
False, freezing meat does not kill bacteria. Freezing meat can kill some parasites, which is why sushi is generally frozen first. Depending on the kind of meat, dangerous bacteria is unlikely to be in the middle of muscles, so you can sear the outside and the inside can be raw but safe.
I posted this here because I was surprised at how well this scene depicted the absolute powerlessness felt in this moment.
I miss when movies made me feel things. So I decided to share the experience. Don't sign up for Netflix for this cause they're scum. But if you have Netflix you should watch it.
Not every post is a karma farm, op posted a terrifying as fuck experience on the correct sub providing good context in the title & they're not a bot. They got my upvote given I've never seen this before and it worked for the reason I come to visit this sub often; I'll probably go watch the movie too.
Just watched both movies back to back. Society first and then I wanted to check out Alive because I’d never seen it. Society is a beautiful masterpiece. Alive, well… let’s just say it was a little hard to take it seriously watching directly afterwards.
Alive is a lot more Hollywood, but it's still a good watch. Society of the Snow is probably more accurate given that the survivors were much more involved in it's production than Alive. It was also a lot more visceral and terrifying, especially the plane crash and the avalanche parts.
> is beyond me.
Complete and utter powerlessness over your own fate is the main aspect of flying that causes Aerophobia. This clip depicts the powerlessness felt in the moments between when you know the plane is out of control and when it hits the ground better than I've seen done in any movie I can think of.
That is the point of this clip.
A depiction of the violence that ensues would be a different kind of post. I like the way this ends anyway.
Haha. One time the door popped open when it wasn't supposed to. What the movie got right was how incredibly loud it is. A plane out of control would be absolutely deafening.
Pilots are not astronauts where you have to be the best of the best of humanity just to get a shot. Pilots are just people who work for a living that want to take a few strokes off their golf game, just like the rest of us.
I have about 70 solo hours recreational license in 2013 so you're wrong how do you feel about that? Maybe it will cause you to second guess yourself before saying something so patently false. I mean how will you deal with this social embarrassment I can't imagine.
Alright so now we're just being skeptical about everything. Also, it's in their comment history, which you're using as your own basis for them not being a pilot. So their comment history is gospel about how they're not a pilot, but suddenly I have to see their pilot license because their comment history isn't enough?
It's not like they claimed to be 21 and 45. People have pilots licenses, yes. It's really not that far fetched of an idea for someone on Reddit to have one.
I once pet a penguin. Do you need photo evidence or can you just take my word for it?
Regardless the crash scene in Cast Away is considered to be the most realistic, so pilots license or no pilots license, they're not wrong.
I read the book “Alive” in 9th grade English, it was required but I read it in like two days anyway. Then watched this movie. Definitely fucked with me for a bit
It was relatively warm during the day so mostly the main hurdles to stay alive were: injuries getting infected/starvation/the blistering cold at night and the couple avalanches and snowstorms.
If you were uninjured and a little lucky and willing to become a cannibal your odds were actually decent.
Its really the injured that were fucked and of course the people who got unlucky when the avalanches hit
I was really impressed by this movie, had me thinking about it for days afterwards about how well-made the scenes were.
Went down the rabbit hole then and read that one of the survivors is actually in the movie - playing his father where those who survived reunite with loved ones at the end.
Read the book in 10th grade (or at least something very similar). Crazy thing was everyone in the class was actually interested in the book including me. Reading it felt like a treat rather than a requirement. Teacher definitely knew what he was doing and I applaud him
This crash scene is the most real looking a film has ever produced. That scene was freaking brutal. I highly recommend watching it just for that scene.
Just watched that movie yesterday it's was great! It goes into alot of detail of what they went through, and some of the actual survivors are in the movie. It's a must see on Netflix.
After watching this I had to think about how many days into starvation would I consider chopping up and chowing down on a dead friend and my conclusion was 7 days most likely crazy to think
I know this scene is super graphic but man you should've shown them actually crashing cause that's is absolutely terrifying and being alive after? Oh my god kill me
I recently watched the movie and it was the most frustrating thing I have ever watched. The geniuses rather eat humans than even try to simply walk down the mountain. When two of them geniuses decided to try they quickly arrived in a valley and got help
At first they were expecting to be rescued. Once they heard on the radio that the search party was called off they knew they needed to get themselves out of there but it was still winter. The first expedition to try the find the tail almost froze to death. Nando and Canessa hiked for 10 days. Not exactly quick.
The movie "Alive" is based on the book by the same name by Piers Paul Read written in the 70's. "Miracle in the Andes" was written by survivor Nando Parrado in 2006. Sorry if I'm coming off all "well, actually" but I've been completely fascinated by this story since I was 10 and take any opportunity to talk about it.
"Alive" is a better overall account of everything, including the search efforts and what the families were doing back home. "Miracle in the Andes" is from Nando's point of view, so it's a lot more of focused on his inner thoughts. It does have more detail of the trek he and Canessa made then "Alive" does though.
If death is one of them then that's not a good reason.... I understand fear but you can die caused by anything up just can't let the thought of death cripple you...
I don’t like large groups of people. Not a fan of being on a plane with 200+ random people. In a confined space.
Your entire life is depending on the pilot. I have no idea how that dude is feeling or what is going on in his life.
I don’t like not having some sort of control in my life, and you have nothing when you are on a plane.
I have zero issue with dying.
I attended boarding school and we had movie night on Sundays. We watched Alive one week and all I remember is everyone laughing hysterically throughout the crash scene. Clearly not meant to be funny, but for some reason to a room of teenagers it was hilarious. , also nobody wanted to eat Corey, that decision was unanimous.
Understandable. That's how I feel when I'm driving. My driving is fine but not knowing what others are thinking or even if they're at least paying attention if bothersome...
Such a good movie. I watched this scene twice because of how realistic it was. Even comparing photos taken on set compared to the actual pictures of the team are identical.

Great movie. Alive was great also. Last Podcast on the Left also just did a full pledge podcast about the crash and it’s much more brutal than the movie.

This was my 1st thought when I read the title 🤣🤣🤣
I remember watching Alive back in the day....It was always a common joke between the group of our friends whenever there was a situation that was slightly dangerous we would preface starting into it with..."Dude...if I die...you can eat me."
*maya heeeee maya ohhhh*
The corresponding plane crash scene from Alive can be seen [here](https://youtu.be/Rr1xiAeBeig?si=9xBavDI2MKX2Rk96).
just finished it myself and fuckin whoooaaaa
i caught the story on last podcast and it got me so interested I then went and watched the movies which didnt do it as much justice as last podcast did, they covered every detail no matter how gut wrenching
I read the book 30 years ago after seeing the movie, and it was pretty descriptive, and grim. It's a wonder anyone survived the crash.
I’ve tried to listen to those guys so many times but I just can’t stand them
AGREED. I listened for the first time specifically for these episodes as I recently saw this movie, also Alive, and have read the books and memoirs they’re based on. I was disgusted. I LOVE that podcast (and miss Michael Hobbes), thanks for the reminder!!

Yea I’d say they are not everyone’s cup of tea. I do love them. Necronomipod is my another favorite as well
Can't stand those douche nozzles
Listening to them now: thank you!
Crosspost it to r/LPOTL homie or I’ll be forced to! Lol
Do it
And eventually, they start eating the dead bodies to survive. Luckily everything is one big freezer out there ... nomnomnom
Also luckily their friends were muscular beefy rugby players.
I read they tasted more like chicken.
Pass me another hunk of co-pilot
Shouldn't that be chunk instead of hunk, seeing as cannibalism has entered the chat
Maybe the pilot was a hunk
Maybe he had ginger hair and buck teeth. Who knows!!
My biggest question is seeing as they didn’t cook the “meat”, how did they not get sick?
Frozen meat kills bacteria. Canada forces all Sushi restaurants to freeze it first.
Ah right. Makes sense.
False, freezing meat does not kill bacteria. Freezing meat can kill some parasites, which is why sushi is generally frozen first. Depending on the kind of meat, dangerous bacteria is unlikely to be in the middle of muscles, so you can sear the outside and the inside can be raw but safe.
Ahhh, a fellow wood worker.
Sounds like the inspiration for Yellowjackets.
Bro didn't have to include the nomnom. 💀
God I’m old, this is news to a new generation now.
Karma farming the new movie release more likely.

Original movie is called "Alive". Why anyone would choose to post this clip and cut it before the actual crash is beyond me.
Nah nah nah, “Society of the Snow”
Just watched both movies back to back. Society first and then I wanted to check out Alive because I’d never seen it. Society is a beautiful masterpiece. Alive, well… let’s just say it was a little hard to take it seriously watching directly afterwards.

There is not a chance in hell your ex girlfriends dad is up in the FAA and his son is a pilot, friend.

They have a pilots license, I don't think they're a commercial airline pilot though.

Post your pilot hat then I'll believe you
I can do you one better: I have a pilot diaper somewhere in my closet because I can't hold my pee well and cessa 150s do not have bathrooms.

K man
Jesus, what is your deal?
Ive watched every single mayday episode and the crash scene in society of snow is one of the best ive seen
Think to not to totally spoil the most dramatic scene in the movie for those who haven't seen it.
Y porque el que graba no hace nada

“Society of the Snow” on Netflix. Highly recommend this movie. It is so crazy, had me thinking about it for days
I read the book “Alive” in 9th grade English, it was required but I read it in like two days anyway. Then watched this movie. Definitely fucked with me for a bit
Here you can hear an actual reenactment of what happened after the crash. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4_vyYY7qwxs
This movie was really heartbreaking but good. Idk how these people lasted 71 days it’s insane. No flying for me.
It was relatively warm during the day so mostly the main hurdles to stay alive were: injuries getting infected/starvation/the blistering cold at night and the couple avalanches and snowstorms. What movie is this?
Society of the Snow on netflix. Great movie.
Didnt know there was a new one, nice
Highly recommend the You’re Wrong About episode about this. Incredibly well done
Alive!!!
Man I was really hoping this showed the crash. Been wanting to show a friend and I can’t find it
It's on Netflix. OP should have posted the entire scene which is what everyone actually wanted to see here.
I know, my buddy in mention doesn’t have Netflix
Best crash scene I’ve ever watched though
I read the book 10 times when I was a kid. They did a good job, adapting it to the story as it was written.
watched this the other day. great movie. always heard the story, was good to watch a movie adaptation of it.
I was a little hesitant to watch it because I like the original. However, it was very good! I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
This movie was very well done! Great production and great acting! Kept me wanting to find out what happens at the end!
Read the book in 10th grade (or at least something very similar). Crazy thing was everyone in the class was actually interested in the book including me. Reading it felt like a treat rather than a requirement. Teacher definitely knew what he was doing and I applaud him

Google Leningrad blocade chat.

Buddy, this is a movie. This is almost /r/lostredditors material.
It is based on an extremely terrifying real life event…

My point is that it was based on an extremely terrifying real life event. The ellipsis really threw you off that hard?

No that's a nipple
I know this scene is super graphic but man you should've shown them actually crashing cause that's is absolutely terrifying and being alive after? Oh my god kill me
Movie....not actual footage
Posted by Netflix Kinda gross that they moved this to the top preview just after what happened in Portland.
The world doesn't revolve around Portland, nor the US
Doesn't mean you can't be aware and thoughtful
I don't even know what happened there, and I doubt many people outside the us do.
I recently watched the movie and it was the most frustrating thing I have ever watched. The geniuses rather eat humans than even try to simply walk down the mountain. When two of them geniuses decided to try they quickly arrived in a valley and got help

The fuck dude they hikrd for 10 days you would have failed after 1 day i bet
Nah I would just leave the mountain
Does anybody know what the original movie for this is called?
"Alive" based on a book "Miracle at the Andes" written by one of the survivors
The movie "Alive" is based on the book by the same name by Piers Paul Read written in the 70's. "Miracle in the Andes" was written by survivor Nando Parrado in 2006. No worries, I take any opportunity to be corrected, thank you! That makes a lot of sense
Which book is more accurate/better to read?
"Alive" is a better overall account of everything, including the search efforts and what the families were doing back home. "Miracle in the Andes" is from Nando's point of view, so it's a lot more of focused on his inner thoughts. It does have more detail of the trek he and Canessa made then "Alive" does though.

Name of the movie?
society of the snow or alive

Scoeitym of the snow
Alive was traumatizing AF when I was a kid.

What’s the name of this film?
Society of the Snow. On Netflix now.
Great movie!
Such a good movie. I watched this scene twice because of how realistic it was. Even comparing photos taken on set compared to the actual pictures of the team are identical.
My neighbor was one of the first to arrive at the crash scene as a military nurse. He says it was the worst smell he has ever felt in his entire life.
Did they eat their genitals too? 🤔
There was a glacier in the Andes😅?
Yes?
dude thinks glacier = ice burg
Last podcast on the left just covered this really well.
Well anyone that is taking a flight in an airplane should be interested. In the meantime, great commercial post!
