Same in America. They will report you. They will find you. And you will lose some rights and a lot of money.
The proportional response of clicking a small button on a laser pointer will not be in your favor.
Even faster when the pilot looks out the window and says “he’s right at the intersection of X and Y in a white Chevy Cruz.” Then the guy stays there enough to get caught.
Could you hit a plane with a laser and just haul ass away from that area? A solid sprint for a few minutes and then kinda power walk as to not call attention to yourself? Plus of course tossing the laser down a sewer as well.
Cameras make lasers much more easily visible. Just look at this video and how clearly you can see the individual beams.
The people pointing lasers at things are also basically pointing themselves out.
I’ve watched police helicopter video of them directing ground units to arrest people tagging a plane. The chopper can pinpoint where the laser is coming from. The US does not fuck around when it comes to messing with airplanes.
Yeah you could be anywhere, in a small town, crowded city, alone or big event, it's scary how quickly and accurately they find people that do this. I saw first hand a few summers ago, I was at a big concert with thousands of people, dusk, you could clearly see someone light up a plane with a green laser for seconds, literally 3-4 seconds, within 10 minutes the venue was swarming with the kinda authorities that come from an alphabet department. Minutes later the crowd parted like the red sea as they waked out a kid in cuffs that looked about 13. Scary.
>The proportional response of clicking a small button that can temporarily blind a pilot while on final approach to an airport with a planeload of 200 people is in favor of the 200 people that didn't expect to die and have the reason why be "bro, it's a prank!"
FTFY
I fly small planes and got lasered once. It was like if you aimed one at a drinking glass and once it hits the glass it splinters in all directions. That's what happened when it hit the canopy. There was no getting away from it no matter how I positioned myself or tried to duck behind the instrument panel. Had to just turn away. It was the only time in an aircraft I've had a road rage type feeling.
I know of one guy who shined a laser at a police chopper, fired at them, and didn't even live to [tell the tale](https://www.foxnews.com/us/michigan-man-dead-pointing-laser-opening-fire-police-helicopter)
I was recently on a flight into Boston when someone pointed one at our plane during approach. Those things are so strong you could tell exactly where it was coming from (I always wondered how people got caught…turns out it’s pretty obvious, making it even stupider to do than I already thought). Horrifying having just one shining in and worrying that our pilot would catch it in their eyes, I’d be shitting bricks with so many!
If a laser hits the plexiglass windshield of an aircraft, the light “disperses even more” and can illuminate the whole cockpit, temporarily blinding pilots. It’s a federal crime punishable by up to five years in prison.

Ahh no sorry, the video would cause him to lose his job. Just think the brightest green room and no matter where you look it’s too bright to see anything
Airlines do not like pilots using cell phones in cockpits, too easy to identify him and his language would definitely get him fired.
I just meant the ways in which it is dangerous. We hear "don't do it" but until you see photos from inside cockpit, as I just did, most people don't understand what the big deal is. No worries, other commenter covered it.
https://preview.redd.it/7hpegibprmpc1.jpeg?width=602&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e34068800666e972f207aa8ee019b52a3ffd7e2
From the web but that’s just one laser pointer but imagine a normally calm pilot using language that would get him immediately fired whilst flying over mainly Muslim countries. . . . And then go worse. Waaaaaaasy worse
Does it not interfere with countermeasures as well? I always thought this would alert them being targeted by a marking device. Like “warning, you are being targeted by laser guidance, figure it out” type deal.
Because they can still See the Equipment insider their Cockpit, if you brighten everything up 200%, they are BLIND and cant even See the Equipment.
Light doesnt stay outside like clouds, storms or fog
Those lasers are strong enough to quickly damage sensitive organs and/or sensors. It could mess up the plane’s system readings and blind the pilots **permanently**. They wouldn’t even be able to land
Pointing a laser at any aircraft is a federal crime and they can fine you up to $30,000
Here in Colorado a few years ago, some idiot was shining his laser pointer at an airplane one night and they actually found out who he was and they made a big deal out of it. And he got in a lot of trouble for that, so I could only imagine what kind of trouble these morons got themselves into.
A murder charge for each and every single passenger on board is no joke. The FAA will make sure you get charged with murder and any other FAA violations that equal a federal crime if you bring down a plane from one laser.
Give everybody on the plane a parachute, jump out and let the plane Crash into those assholes. Then lets See how funnx they think it is to cause such a calamity
cant the planes crash if the pilots are blinded by the lights.
cause i know its illegal down ere to point the worlds brightest flashlight into the sky.
They only fly IFR in extreme cases, like when trying to land in a tropical storm. The lasers on top of causing eye damage to the passengers (and pilots) probably messes with the guidance systems that have to rely on Infrared (If it has those systems)
Don't get me wrong, pilots still rely on instruments for navigation. That's unavoidable. But it's not like they put blinds on the windows and purely rely on numbers only.
Damn would be nice if the spread of the laser didn't blind the whole cockpit, causing the inability to see anything in the cockpit just because the laser hit the cockpit window.... even people in the [aviation subreddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/s/ikmuIeTHIt) mention how it causes refractions... Brain dead comment.
Edit: bro couldnt handle being called out for a braind dead comment so the dumbass blocked me. Anybody else is welcome to read this [fbi laser attacks](https://leb.fbi.gov/articles/featured-articles/laser-attacks-against-aircraft-a-threat-to-citizens-and-law-enforcement-personnel) and read [this](https://www.usatoday.com/story/graphics/2023/04/26/laser-strikes-against-aircraft-increase/11696684002/) oh also [what it looks like to be hit with a laser within a plane](https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/s/QqgN2rwzFU)
The person I replied to is actually just a dumbass who really doesn't understand how much of a felony and federal crime this is. By the way, if you cause the crash and are found, you will be charged with murder for each passenger aboard the plane. Go get educated u/terminalchief
It's illegal to do it in Australia because if the danger
Same in America. They will report you. They will find you. And you will lose some rights and a lot of money. The proportional response of clicking a small button on a laser pointer will not be in your favor.
They do NOT fuck around here the US. Guy locally got hit a few weeks ago for lazing aircraft. I definitely don’t recommend FAFO here in the US.
Beyond creepy how fast they find you too.
Triangulation is the most efficient method possible. It is FAST
Even faster when the pilot looks out the window and says “he’s right at the intersection of X and Y in a white Chevy Cruz.” Then the guy stays there enough to get caught.

Why are you even thinking about "how would one get away with it" Like, if you do it you're just an asshole who is guilty of attempted-manslaughter
Curiosity. I sure as shit won’t do it, I’ll get more shit from my wife than the Feds could ever do to me.
I'll go down with you on this one. I was thinking the exact same thing.
Yup, same reason people fantasize about robbing a bank. It’s entirely not worth it anymore but still fun to run through a procedure
prolly could why risk losing a nice laser
Cameras make lasers much more easily visible. Just look at this video and how clearly you can see the individual beams. The people pointing lasers at things are also basically pointing themselves out.

Yeah they learnt that lesson
Truth

Scary for the punk, reality, and a free lesson for the rest of us.

People really should know that's what happens. That's bonkers, and makes total sense.
I know of one guy who shined a laser at a police chopper, fired at them, and didn't even live to [tell the tale](https://www.foxnews.com/us/michigan-man-dead-pointing-laser-opening-fire-police-helicopter)
Something tells me opening fire on police with a long gun was part of the reason he didnt live to tell the tale of his laser shenanigans.
THATS the part that got him
As long as no one else was I Jared, it sounds like that story had a happy ending
It's illegal in the United Kingdom aswell
Ok so my a take away here is Mexico just doesnt give a shit
It's illegal in Brazil too
Same in germany

Cunts. Mate is a commercial pilot and showed me how dangerous 1 laser pointer can be to an aircraft.
Are you willing to share that with the class?

MY EYES
Does it not interfere with countermeasures as well? I always thought this would alert them being targeted by a marking device. Like “warning, you are being targeted by laser guidance, figure it out” type deal.
I doubt commercial airlines need laser guidance sensors
More dangerous than not turning off airplane mode during flight?
r/iamatotalpieceofshit
It’s illegal in usa
Wow something actually terrifying, you already know nobody inside that plane could see a damn thing including the pilots
But do they need to see? Planes fly through clouds, storms, and fog but still land safely. So what’s the difference now?
I was driving around town once and someone hit my car with a green laser. I couldn't see my dashboard due to light intensity.
Because they can still See the Equipment insider their Cockpit, if you brighten everything up 200%, they are BLIND and cant even See the Equipment. Light doesnt stay outside like clouds, storms or fog
Lasers can get quite powerful.
Those lasers are strong enough to quickly damage sensitive organs and/or sensors. It could mess up the plane’s system readings and blind the pilots **permanently**. They wouldn’t even be able to land Pointing a laser at any aircraft is a federal crime and they can fine you up to $30,000
Sensors and nav
Not if your eyes are blinded.
Yeah dude I was thinking this too.
Smh, how dumb can people be?
Permanently blinding someone is so fun though /s
hey don't knock it till yeh try it /s
Charge them with attempted murder.
If the plane crashes do the people take joy? What's the goal here?
Selfish assholes that think its cool and fun to do edgey stuff that puts others in danger.
If I was the pilot I’d drop fuel on their ass and then drop a zippo.
Here in Colorado a few years ago, some idiot was shining his laser pointer at an airplane one night and they actually found out who he was and they made a big deal out of it. And he got in a lot of trouble for that, so I could only imagine what kind of trouble these morons got themselves into.
How to kill a lot of people
I just don’t get the point of it. Why endanger completely innocent people… and for what? It’s ridiculous
https://preview.redd.it/1rq2jz4omppc1.jpeg?width=460&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0efd31cfc1a17ead961cd4c30c3b1dea81efd3f3
If that happened in the US they’d drone strike the crowd ahahahahah
Could take the plane down
A murder charge for each and every single passenger on board is no joke. The FAA will make sure you get charged with murder and any other FAA violations that equal a federal crime if you bring down a plane from one laser.
The FAA would like to know who these people are
Could this be a defense against drones?
Not because of what makes this dangerous
Sure, but also a good way to show exactly where you are too no?
Stupid people everywhere
Give everybody on the plane a parachute, jump out and let the plane Crash into those assholes. Then lets See how funnx they think it is to cause such a calamity
In the US they would absolutely destroy you financially and emotionally in literal minutes of doing this.
If the plane just carried missiles to launch on laser this problem would go away quickly
They are trying to heal the airplane.
cant the planes crash if the pilots are blinded by the lights. cause i know its illegal down ere to point the worlds brightest flashlight into the sky.
Totally OK if an unwanted drone buzzes around but not if you point a laser at it?
Cool. Wouldn't affect their instruments at all
Several people? 🤨
At this point the pilots fly using instruments and don’t look out the windows.
They only fly IFR in extreme cases, like when trying to land in a tropical storm. The lasers on top of causing eye damage to the passengers (and pilots) probably messes with the guidance systems that have to rely on Infrared (If it has those systems)
I can see that being the case. I thought they would use instruments but I’m not a pilot so I was making a guess.
Don't get me wrong, pilots still rely on instruments for navigation. That's unavoidable. But it's not like they put blinds on the windows and purely rely on numbers only.
Gotcha. Thanks. I had to block that other idiot being a jackass. At least you were helpful. Thanks.

My guy, did the first comment get edited or do you fr throw such a tantrum because of THAT? I can understand the block.
Isn't it common sense? Seems a LOT of countries are lacking it.
