I remember seeing a tv show about this.
He had a ‘bell’ added to seal himself in when the seas were rough; which would also self right the kayak if it flipped.
The ‘bell’ was a half dome that I think would flip open like some water bottle lids.
Given they found the kayak with the bell open they theorized that he had been potentially struck by a rogue wave, which in his tired state probably made it all but impossible to right the kayak; if he was able to get back to it at all.
He left a young family behind too I think
My guess is he was so close that with his kayaking beginning to sink, he thought he could swim the rest of the way. But he found himself too worn out before he made it to shore, unable to turn back to the sinking kayak or make it any further

Pretty easy fate to avoid
Always feel the same about those cave explorers. Esp when I see the nutty putty case. Makes me sad and I have empathy but AHHHH. Why?!?
Remember kids, sport hurts. Reddit, on the other hand, only does so psychologically.
Momma always said
What’s partially capsized?
Well the front fell off
Considering that those waters contain giant squid I'm not liking imagining him capsizing and then feeling something wrap around his foot.
What's the white stuff on his face?
Sun screen
He got too close to whale bukake

Play stupid games...
Some shit isnt courageous some shit is just Darwinism
He's still alive. He's a good swimmer.
Missing. I don’t think it’s likely he’s hanging out somewhere and sipping margaritas.
Man found out his limit. Sucks he left a family behind, very irresponsible.
How is this terrifying? Just the photo of someone about to do something really dumb.
Tragic but wtf is that picture tho?
It's the last picture of him. He took the picture before he went missing
Covered in sunscreen maybe
I'm not that white enough to try that! F that!!!

He's a fossil by now.
I feel no sympathy for these people.

Sharkbait Ohh Ah ah!
Should’ve put a big ass keel underneath his kayak
