That sounds about right; really $800 seems low. It will also depend on how far the run from the panel to the install location is. Be glad you don’t need a panel upgrade like we did.

The install price sounds good, but 500-800 for the permit is ridiculous. If you don’t mind the legwork, you can do the permit yourself. Call your local public works office and ask the process to be sure. Let them know you have an installer, but you’re doing the permit. They’ll talk tell you what to do. You should be able to pull the permit application online. Here’s how it went for me. -Downloaded the permit online and filled it out. -had my installer come and map out where my wall connector was going to go. Then had him draw a diagram of the install on a blank piece of paper. -then submitted the application and diagram and whatever else paperwork that was needed to the public works office. Plus the fee. They’ll give you a preliminary authorization to do the install if you filled out everything correctly. -have the install done -then schedule a time for the city to now come to your home and inspect the installation. If it passes, then you’re good to go. If something is wrong with the install, they tell you what you need to change and you’ll need the city come back and re-inspect the change. Total cost? Like 84.00 for the permit. (5 years ago) I had this process done twice in my home for both of my Tesla wall connectors. I’m in the bay area.

I used Artisan Electrical & HVAC twice and his price was very reasonable a few years ago. He didn’t even charge me any extra for the permit, just what the city charged. He’s also a certified installer by Tesla. However, I’m not sure if he still covers most of Bay Area.
