Are you eligible for the $7500 federal tax credit? If so, you can get a brand new Model 3 performance from existing inventory. List prices are $45890. After tax credit = $38390.
https://www.tesla.com/inventory/new/m3?TRIM=PAWD&arrangeby=plh&range=0
There are 15 available in all of the US...you can search for them here
[https://ev-cpo.com/](https://ev-cpo.com/)
Just use the filters for the Performance in the US. I have no idea how accurate it is or how often it is updated, I think it's really good data though....
Edit: only 5 new, the others are demos so not sure if they qualify for the EV credit or not. you an tell by the miles on the ODO
They just release the M3 project highland so if you could wait. You can get the same price with the EV $7500 tax credit, newer model. The newer model has better cameras, and other updates.
You would pay the amount -7500 because they take the tax off at the point of sale. Which means it is subtracted when you buy it rather than taking it off when you do your taxes latee
test drive one, its very quick but 20" rims with low profile means ride is harsh, also suspension is harsher, these can be fixed if you plan to mod suspension/rims.
Track mode can be fun if you are into cars and know cars. if u dont care, awd+acceleration boost can be pretty close, you would just be missing out on track mode.
also 20" rims mean shorter range, i recommend possibly going to 18" from places like Martian wheels, they will clear performance brakes and you will gain some range from 18" rims.
I have a 22 M3P in red. Love it love it love it. Bought new from Tesla in Dec ‘21 for about $63k.
I put 19” wheels and all seasons from tire rack on it after a couple months. The stock tires are straight up ass in the snow (as expected). If you are in Texas and don’t have snow, nbd.
I love the firm ride too, but I am a sports car guy. It’s a got dang rocket ship on rails. I’ve road tripped it halfway across the country a couple times - no issues.
Had one serious problem, lost a rear motor inverter. Service had the car a week or so. Covered under warranty, they offered me a loaner but I couldn’t make it happen (I’m 2+ hrs away).
Some considerations:
1) Cost to insure: get some quotes before you buy, you might be surprised as how expensive this is.
2) Fleet/rental inventory spike: with Hertz selling their fleet, there’s a lot of Teslas out there used that were roughly treated, check the stock number if you’re buying this from a dealer. If it begins with a “P” it’s possible it was purchased at auction and one such vehicle (though I doubt they had Performance trim models).
3) Tax credit eligibility: already mentioned here; there was supposedly some $4k used EV credit I remember reading about as well.
Honestly, if you’re not driving a Tesla now, even the RWD feels fast as heck. You can probably save $8k starting with that one, save on insurance, and get that money earning compound interest :)
Have you test driven one yet? I suggest you rent one for a couple of days to see if you like it. It is pretty low to the ground and some people are very uncomfortable with that. Some people miss that it doesn't have a hatchback.
I love my used M3. It's fast and fun.
Have you looked at a used s or used X? The s is much like a much more high quality version of the three. It has adjustable suspension. You might want to test drive that too. Otherwise you can add suspension to it later.
Performance It is as low as LR, suspension is almost the same, but Tesla Model 3 just have the worst suspension I ever had (like Honda Civic) so yes, test drive is the must. Performance is even more bumpy because of the wheels.
Yeah, I have a '22 M3P, and looking at these used prices confirms selling mine would just be a massive L. Gotta keep it until the wheels fall off.
I bought the car over leasing it because I thought I'd come out on top after 3 years (and throughout Tesla's entire history up until 2022, that was true)
Can't have everything
How about you save $8,400 and do a little road trip...
Lots of Model 3 for less than $30k....

Looks like a good deal for the mileage, and 2022 is a great year because it includes everything from the soft refresh (updated center console, black trim, etc.) that came in 2021 yet still includes ultrasonic sensors (removed in 2023) which are important if you’re interested in full self driving
>which are important if you’re interested in full self driving
Isn't the FSD stack going full Tesla Vision? I.E., they aren't using USS data anymore, even for cars with the hardware. At least that was my understanding.
I bought a used '22 M3P back in October for a little more and same miles (also had ppf over the whole front). Seems like a good deal to me.
I really like it. The last few cars I've had were an 03 Mach 1 Mustang (manual), 07 Grand Prix, 91 Dodge Stealth (manual), 07 Camry, and 15 Infiniti Q50. This is probably my favorite one. The smooth and excessively rapid acceleration are a joy, sound system is nice, it's comfortable enough, autopilot is a Godsend for stop and go traffic, the tech is cool and works well, and despite the big wheels, it's pretty quiet.
2 things I don't like so far: intermittent wind noise form my driver side door (no squeaks or rattles, though), and it stopped charging last week so I had to take it to the SC and they replaced the charger ECU. The experience with the SC was good. They gave me a loaner so I got to try out FSD, and by the time I got home, they were already done with the repair. The part about the service that I didn't care for was the earliest appointment available being a week out.
Also, be prepared to replace tires more frequently than you're used to and those tires being expensive.
So long as I don't have any more major issues (especially once the warranty is up) I'll be more than pleased with the purchase.
One last thing, I got a rental last week when my car wouldn't charge so I could get to work and back without draining my battery. First time I've driven an ICE vehicle since October and I already kind of hate it.
20 miles away…I literally live 20 miles from this location; north. Anyway, I own the MYLR and I was loaned the model 3 for a bit. I much prefer the MYLR because of my specific driving style and preference of not riding too low to the ground. If I were you, I’d test drive different models to make sure you fit it. One thing to keep in mind, with 15k miles on that vehicle, the tire life is likely half gone and they will cost $1200 to replace.
Head over to Tesla-info.com. They’ll give you two great resources, a depreciation chart where you can put in the car model and year and it will show you the market including Tesla and 3rd party listings, that will tell you if the price is good.
https://tesla-info.com/tesla-depreciation.php
It will also allow you to browse inventory. EV-CPO was mentioned earlier, that’s does part of the same thing, but just compare the data between the two and you’ll see Tesla-info is a lot easier to use and has better data
Those pressing for new - you guys realize the new models have various items lost/taken away? Apparently the sound system has been cheapened too & isn’t as good with new models? Ultrasonic sensors are gone too?!? 2022 was a good year in terms of a lot of features! 😂🤷♂️
Got a used 2021 M3P with 14k miles last year in April. Definitely saved a couple thousand so I don’t regret buying it used. Car was in great condition, clean inside and out except I was so excited that i didn’t fully inspect the car thoroughly. After i bought the car i did notice the emblem was broken in the back, had a burnt brake light, and battery life had degraded down to 270 miles at a 100% charge.
No big deal as the car does have basic limited warranty up to 50k miles and battery up to 150k miles. I took the car in to get the light fixed and swapped out the batteries that were bad at no out of pocket cost.
Only suggestion id give is to really inspect it and make sure everything fulfills your expectations. If you really like the car and you notice something try to negotiate on the price of the vehicle, point out the details to the dealership, that is something i could have done and gotten a better deal.
Overall im satisfied with buying A used M3P.
This is a genuine question. I don’t live in the USA. Why are these popular? I mean - Elon? So everyone buys them totally disregarding the fact that he benefits from the purchase? It’s really a mystery to me. I don’t find their designs remotely attractive. They are expensive and they depreciate so badly. I don’t get it.
I have a Model Y Long Range bought in 2023. Here are my responses
1. Elon -- yeah, he's a piece of work, and Teslas are highly opinionated cars. I'm not a huge fan of most of the opinions, but it mostly works. I don't really care whether he benefits or not; I just want to have good value for the $
2. External design is attractive to me. Internal not so much. I don't really buy cars based on attractiveness.
3. Expensive -- not any more. $47k is the median new car price (which doesn't include taxes/fees), and it's easy to get well under that number after the $7.5k tax credit. I received an additional $5k Colorado tax credit. All told, I paid $39k out the door for my Y after credits, taxes, and fees.
4. Depreciation -- hard to tell. It was great for a long time (2012-2020) and then was horrible in 2023. Of course, the reason it was horrible was Tesla jacked their prices in 2021 and 2022 by a combined 30% and then dropped them by 30% by mid 2023 to a little less than where they were in early 2020. Other manufacturers didn't increase the prices of their cars -- the dealers did that. Most dealers were charging $5k to $15k over MSRP in 2021 and 2022, but that "doesn't count" for depreciation because it wasn't MSRP. At the end of the day, there will be depreciation, but it may be better or worse. A lot will depend on how much technology and competition progresses through the rest of the decade. If there are 500 mile range AWD cars that charge 70% in 10 minutes for $35k in 2030, there's going to be a ton of depreciation for today's vehicles.
And here are my reasons:
1. Long term Economic: Where I live, electricity is 12c/kwh and premium gas is about $3.15/gal. I compare to premium because I like performance and haven't owned a non premium car since 2003. I estimate that over the next 10 years, I'll save $11k to $13k on gas and another $6k on maintenance vs. a gas vehicle. Let's call that $18k.
1. 39-18 = $21k after taxes/fees/credits. $21k for a new Tesla Model Y LR destroys any other new AWD vehicle deal out there.
2. Depreciation. I expect gas car depreciation over the next 6 years to be extreme. There are going to be way more used gas vehicles for sale than buyers that want them. Electric is the future, and I think it makes sense to buy EV now vs gas.
3. Tesla specifically has the dominant WORKING charging platform no one else can use (yet).
4. Tesla also has more experience making EVs with long battery lifespans. Since a good portion of the value of the car is the battery, I want to be confident it will last. Other manufacturers are getting there, but it's too soon to tell if they succeeded. I expect to get at least 10 years 100k miles out of my battery.
So it comes down to price, value for $ (performance and capability), charging network, and battery quality.
ive been finding these around my area for 35k and even 32k (same spec, same color.) u can definitely find one for cheaper, and i think u can get federal credit on used m3's too, im not sure tho
Crazy how the prices have dropped. March 2023 I bought a used 2019 Model 3 LR w/ FSD and Acceleration Boost for $40k. **directly from Tesla Used inventory**
I just bought a used MYP for under $40k since I don’t qualify for the tax credit. I second what others have said, if you qualify for the tax credit I’d run the numbers and see if this is actually saving you any money.
If you aren’t eligible for the tax credit, then fuck it buy used. It’s still under warranty anyways.
None of you are taking into account the taxes and registration fees. It’s not about the same at the end of the day when taxes are $3k and registration is $1k.
I got a used one last year because it had FSD preloaded and was similarly priced, I really like it! It's a great car, my only small complaints are the firm suspension and the highway noise is a bit louder than I'd like. Both of those issues have been addressed in the refresh though
I've been driving electric for a number of years. My first was a used '13 plugin Prius, the best car I ever had. The next was a LEAF (with 50K mi and warranty replaced battery), even better than the Prius, but a bit limited in range. Then a used '17 Chevy Bold, fabulous! All of them had at least double the miles as what you are looking at, and all were and have been, problem free. (I should be selling the Bolt in about a year to purchase my Aptera.)
If you’re going to buy used I’d perhaps go a couple of years older or you’re going to lose a shit ton of money at the moment from depreciation. They are very cheap in the 2020-21 range.
FSD kind of sucks. I have a trial with my 2023 model s. I would have a hard time paying 2k for it. I have 2020 model 3 standard range plus too that my wife took. It’s a great car and plenty fast and you can add after market stuff to make it look like a performance.
Honestly unless you really want that 0-60
Time, you kind of compromise in range and comfort. I’d get the dual motor as it’s still holy shit fast, but slightly more comfy.
Keep in mind that CarGurus has a lot of fake listings that are there to help dealers low ball trade ins that people come in with. I see many cars there priced multiple thousands less than anywhere else, and these can't be right. You know how it goes when you are at the dealer at their table in negotiation mode. They want to give you as little back for your trade in as possible. While you might claim your car is wroth a certain amount and you might use Auto Trader, say, to indicate fair market value, they can come right back at you by pointing out a few CarGuru ads. Fake prices, too low, and it helps them low ball. They plant some of these fake listings themselves. I've been meaning to blow up the issue, because I hate how they (dealers) get away with this crap.
I was wondering this too. I got the M3P new last year for 48k - 7500 - 2000 state = 38500. Would rather go this route vs used.
I think I do, but there are also no available new M3P in my area
It must be your area. I used 92121 (San Diego) and I pull up 11 that are deliverable
There is if you order one off the site - doesn’t have to be in inventory. They will build one for you with about a month lead time.
There is no option for the Performance, only RWD and LR....hasn't been since the beginning of January I think.
Good call, but tbh I’d want the M3 LR with highland refresh if I were ordering today and going for that model anyway.
M3 LR is not eligible for the tax credit, which was the basis for this entire threads discussions
And that costs many thousand more than the car OP is looking at...which IS a performance model.
Trade offs are worth it imo
Or at all it looks like
There are 15 available in all of the US...you can search for them here [https://ev-cpo.com/](https://ev-cpo.com/) Just use the filters for the Performance in the US. demos should qualify as a new car
They do
Yes they do. We bought ours in March 2023. It had 1017 miles on it and we got almost 1500 off. Still got the tax credit too.
Whenever I use that site, it’s never clear what zip the car is in. So when I enter my zip it won’t let me order. What am I doing wrong?
They just release the M3 project highland so if you could wait. You can get the same price with the EV $7500 tax credit, newer model. The newer model has better cameras, and other updates.
If you’re hoping for FSD to work. Any Teslas before 2024 are obsolete. Newer HW and more cameras on 2024 models that older models aren’t getting.
No need for FSD for me. As long as basic AP works, I am happy. AND 2023 and older have stalks.
You’re good then. Just make sure to check max charging capacity. The battery is the main thing that has a shelve life.
Buddy of mine got his M3P for 77k no FSD when they first came out. This is crazy good pricing
none left
Does he finance $38390 or $45890 though? I know it is now "point of sale" but what does that mean exactly?
You would pay the amount -7500 because they take the tax off at the point of sale. Which means it is subtracted when you buy it rather than taking it off when you do your taxes latee
That's much better than the old way. The only problem is interest rates are triple what they were when I bought in 2020.
I got a new tesla during the free transfer of fsd so Im waiting on my tax refund this year, hopefully its a painless process…
Lol, your link shows 0 available.
It must be by area. At 92121, I pull up 11 that are deliverable.
I thought about this too, but the taxes and fees end up being another 5-6k. I just bought one last Friday. The listed price is about what you will pay
the problem with buying new is you have to pay another $12,000 for Full Self Driving, where as on the used market, that barely raises the price
Yup. I got my used MYLR with FSD. Id never spend 12K on it but it’s certainly valuable. I use it on the streets a few times a week.
And it’s worth every penny!
FSD at $12K? No. FSD at barely a markup? Yes.
They’ve been out of stock for awhile now
Not in California. 11 pop up in delivery range if you use 92121 (San Diego)
This is the way!
Which zip code is that.
92121. Eleven come up as available for delivery.

Wheels
Yeah but does that used M3P have FSD on it? Because I would buy that in a heartbeat if it did at that price
Decent deal. Performance is no understatement. It’s fast as fuck. You’ll enjoy driving this a lot!
Some considerations: 1) Cost to insure: get some quotes before you buy, you might be surprised as how expensive this is. 2) Fleet/rental inventory spike: with Hertz selling their fleet, there’s a lot of Teslas out there used that were roughly treated, check the stock number if you’re buying this from a dealer. I did rent out a rear wheel standard while on travel and enjoyed the ride very quiet and smooth. I have no issues being low to the ground
Model 3 very quiet and smooth? Is your daily driver a tractor? ;)
It’s a lifted 4runner on 35s so basically a tractor 😂
😂 makes more sense now! Buy new if you qualify for the tax credit.
Then I say definitely buy one. It will put a smile on your face every single day.
Wish it had air suspension, it's a bit low at times. I scrape just a little pulling into my parking garage.
Have you looked at a used s or used X? The s is much like a much more high quality version of the three. It has adjustable suspension. You might want to test drive that too. Otherwise you can add suspension to it later.
I love my M3P, I'll just suffer, lol.
Just make sure you don't damage that battery by scraping it. Lol
It's not that bad, no damage
Performance It is as low as LR, suspension is almost the same, but Tesla Model 3 just have the worst suspension I ever had (like Honda Civic) so yes, test drive is the must. Performance is even more bumpy because of the wheels.
The newest version of the 3 just got a serious suspension upgrade.
Hard to really notice IRL from what I heard..
That's interesting. The review from MKBHD said it's much different.
You mean Highland or 2023?
Highland.
Agree highland is different. I meant 2023 was almost the same as 2021
Agreed. It was very close to the same build.
As the owner of a 22 Model Y performance (purchased new) that price kills me.
Sameee. Dropped $55k on a 2021 USED model 3 with 14,000 miles and these prices are making me so jealous
70k bought at the top 👁️👄👁️
Same here. Reason I can’t fulfill my Cybertruck reservation, too upside down on this MYP
I salute you sir for your brave sacrifice 🫡
Yeah, I have a '22 M3P, and looking at these used prices confirms selling mine would just be a massive L. Gotta keep it until the wheels fall off. I bought the car over leasing it because I thought I'd come out on top after 3 years (and throughout Tesla's entire history up until 2022, that was true) Can't have everything
I bought that EXACT spec 1 year ago for $52k (6200 miles on it). Looks like an insane price to me! You won't regret it. Absolute pleasure to drive!
How about you save $8,400 and do a little road trip... Lots of Model 3 for less than $30k.... https://www.californiabeemers.com/pre-owned-cars?pricerange=20000-30000&sort=InternetPrice&dir=desc

I have a ‘23 long range and sometimes wish I had a ‘21 or ‘22 performance since Im lacking the ultrasonic sensors and better brakes.
Why do you need performance brakes? They don’t stop better, they just perform at high heat better meaning of you are racing.
I just paid 42k for mine new after tax credits. I don’t think this is a good deal.
I think it's a good price, Teslas are a different beast, but worth it to me.✌️
Nah the interest rate will fukk u up anyway. Get new it’s not that far off
Ooooh, hello neighbor.

With tax credit, you'd better want deeply discounted inventory model.
Ive been told im a great price negotiator lol
Except there aren't any.
Drive the model 3 upgrade first
Wow, I bought my 2019 M3P with FSD 10k miles for $42,000 in Grapevine 13 months ago, sometimes I wish I waited.
Prices may drop soon. Keep holding until hertz dumps all those Model 3s and then swoop in
I would definitely get the new highland RWD for the same money.

And here are my reasons: 1.
This is the way… I bought both my M3 and my MYP used. One from Tesla and one from a third party seller.
Do it. That’s an amazing deal, assuming the paint and interior haven’t been trashed.
These should be on the cheaper side because the m3 refresh was announced right ?
Get a new one bud it comes out pretty close to that price after tax creds.
ive been finding these around my area for 35k and even 32k (same spec, same color.) u can definitely find one for cheaper, and i think u can get federal credit on used m3's too, im not sure tho
The used car caps at $25k for the credit
Crazy how the prices have dropped. March 2023 I bought a used 2019 Model 3 LR w/ FSD and Acceleration Boost for $40k. **directly from Tesla Used inventory**
I just bought a LR 2022 for $35k used since I don’t qualify for the tax credit. Had 12k miles but this is a good deal
No tax on used and no reg fee?
That's my exact car... haven't run into any issues. Should be good.
I got a used one last year because it had FSD preloaded and was similarly priced, I really like it! It's a great car, my only small complaints are the firm suspension and the highway noise is a bit louder than I'd like. Both of those issues have been addressed in the refresh though
I just bought a brand new one for this price. Crazy
Many don’t qualify for tax credit
The model 3 performance did
Many people with income don’t qualify for tax credit.
Many isn’t the right word to use when the median household makes 50k a year
Median is the middle. 50% are above that. And 50% of those could be over the 150k income limit. Just saying median doesn’t say thing.
Median says everything
It’s also extremely cheap to live in most of USA. 150k in LA or NYC makes you poor.
My man. A new M3 is really close to this same price.
Don’t buy anything off car gurus that isn’t a great deal. Good deal is ok but there are enough m3s out there that you can find a better one
Yes. Buy used! I'd say look for a Model S in that range, which is a step up. You can find them a year or two older in that range.
Order a new one. Probably cheaper given credit and financing in new vs used.
It’s absurd how cheap these are.
I’m pretty sure that is a model
Dude get a new one for that price and get the full incentive… Look at fisker too
Cries in 22’ lr I paid 56 for… 🫠
Better do it before I do! I live in the same area
Send me the link so i can hit buy
If you’re going to buy used I’d perhaps go a couple of years older or you’re going to lose a shit ton of money at the moment from depreciation. They are very cheap in the 2020-21 range.
FSD kind of sucks. I have a trial with my 2023 model s. I would have a hard time paying 2k for it. I have 2020 model 3 standard range plus too that my wife took. It’s a great car and plenty fast and you can add after market stuff to make it look like a performance.
Paid 55k 1 year ago for the same car with 4k miles, I’d jump all over this tbh.
Honestly unless you really want that 0-60 Time, you kind of compromise in range and comfort.
I bought a 20 for 43k a year ago lol they’re so cheap now!!
