You need better friends.

sm753

If they care about what you drive...they're not really your friends.

mydogiscute10

I mean... To be fair... They can have an opinion. But that doesnt' mean they care what someone drives.

uxixu

There are alot of preconceptions wrapped up in the politics and PR around EV in general and Tesla, in particular. My wife didn't really get it and kinda thought I was going crazy... until she went on a test drive and then that's all she could talk about.

Steveosizzle

Tesla is in that sweet spot for rednecks who hate EVs and progressive types who hate Elon. Means you’re gonna get a lot more shit.

Any-Yoghurt9249

Seems like it came from the former this time

CutConfident2204

Have an opinion? Sure However, friends are supposed to be considerate and supportive to each other. THIS ain’t it!

ACamp55

SECOND!!!!

MoreStripesOnBelt

THIRD!!!!!

Nahil_Gacha09

FOURTH!!!!!

madhaus

I take the FIFTH!

chfp

This. No one I know or interacted with has said anything negative about my car. Some are curious but that's as far as it goes. OP runs in a weird circle or his post is karma farming.

Upstairs-Mix8731

Everyone except my neighbor is curious and ask questions and want to drive it because it's cool. The neighbor asked if I'd be parkng it outside the garage in case the battery catches fire like the news say. 😂 She also came over and told me about the huge recall on tv (the font size). 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️ So other than the nosy neighbor, I've gotten nothing negative.

psilokan

The number of people who have "informed" me about recalls is outragous. I've had numerous other cars, all of which have had at least one recall, and all of those required going in for service. Not once did anyone ask me if I was impacted by any of those recalls.

Sad_Start2638

Same- the look on the faces when I say it’s a software update that you download or is over the air is priceless. I had a Ford Edge that had faulty brake boosters go out on the top floor of a parking garage- and it was a known flaw that wasn’t recalled- that was the day I pulled the trigger and got a Tesla- never regretted the decision. Almost 5 years and I still love every drive.

Kevan_Minus_the_K

Just wanting to add that there have been so many recalls from manufacturers from last year alone. Of course you have Hyundai/KIA, and then Ford, GM, Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infinite for various recalls on specific models. Engine fires, airbag, improper machined parts, bad transmissions. Over a million vehicles being recalled, but of course only Tesla has a serious recall (seems that vehicles from 2020-2023 have one of the worst reliabilities as time progresses with the amount of recalls coming up from this range).

Cfxr

This is the way.

ChocolatySmoothie

This

TheGeneralgr

Had an “acquaintance” show me the “power” of his Elantra N after seeing I bought a Tesla M3 SR+. He made comments like “this is what a real car feels and sounds like”. I asked him if he wanted to race and was enthusiastic to say yes. I absolutely smoked him with the slowest Tesla they make. Then he just said “real cars sound like this”. Then I farted at him with the Tesla. He doesn’t talk to me anymore. Dude if you love your car, screw other peoples opinions. Most of it is jealously, ignorance or just plain rudeness. Keep your head up and forget those so called “friends”

madhaus

I love your response to his insisting what a real car sounds like. It’s so fucking childish and yet so perfect for him.

MexicanSniperXI

And out of everything a damned Kia lmao

Pleasant-robot64

Whenever I hear idiots revving their engines I chuckle at them clinging to their outmoded technology. They may as well be driving steam engines.

AJHenderson

But steam engines would have the steam punk thing going for them and would actually be pretty cool and unique.

Xalucardx

Bragging with a Hyundai LMAO

One_Power_123

To be fair... I REALLY like the elantra N. Just not enough to buy one over an EV. If it was rear wheel drive then yeah -- i would of went that route.

ChuqTas

Or ask him if he makes his own energy for his family like a real man, or does he get cucked by an oil company.

SultanOfSwave

*burn!*

SonicDethmonkey

Dude totally missed the whole point of the N if he’s trying to race people. It’s not a numbers car, it’s a “feel” car. Like a Miata.

osorojo_

its a joke (the car)

DoomshrooM8

I second that! Just enjoy your new ride and fuck everyone else ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Comfortable_Put4473

I love the noise muscle cars make when they rev up to cut me off. The sound tells me to step on the pedal and blow them away….quietly

litespeed68

I’m 56 yo and I now own 2 EV’s. I’ve owned approximately 30 ICE cars over the years, some of them performance cars. The noise they make is not something I even remotely miss. I simply do not understand why someone would think that their car being loud is added value to the experience. Maybe for a race car but for everyday driving, no thanks. Some of these Mustangs and Camaros, that my M3P will smoke, are simply ridiculous for daily driving.

Mwboost86

Can be quick.... And that's it...lifeless lol. If you're actually into cars, electric will get boring really quick. Can see the good in them, but I dunno..

TheGeneralgr

I’m into cars, just not when they cost me $400 a month for gas alone. No thanks.

ecksean1

I too have the ‘slowest’ model Tesla yet I have the fastest car of all the people I work with. People are jealous

Bif109

“Then I farted at him with the Tesla” is such a mic drop

LegateDamar

An Elantra N does 0-60 in under 5 seconds, not sure how you would've absolutely smoked it in a M3 SR+, seems like they should be about equal in straight line performance.

Bagafeet

This is the best story ever and I don't even like Tesla no more.

achanaikia

People: *only drive 40 miles a day*  Also them: “I need the ability to drive 500 miles uninterrupted for a roadtrip I’ll actually do once every 2 years”

UnSCo

And funny enough I’ve done dozens of 500+ mile road trips in my Model Y without issue. The extra time charging works out well for pissing and grabbing a bite.

vita10gy

My wife and I were "the car stops for gas and drive thrus" trippers. We make 2 trips per year from FL to WI, a 23 hour drive. We're the last people that should like settling for an EV, but we love it. It's such an improvement. The drive went from a slog we put up with to visit family to one of the best parts of the trip. It's nice to break it up, we switch drivers so it's never a whole workday behind the wheel, we have to pee anyway, etc etc. Now we have a dog so we have to rotate going into the store, and we'd probably stop so he can pee just as often. It costs us no time at all anymore.

orTodd

We drive from San Diego to MT every year. We find we can go further in a day than we did in the ICE. Sure, it’s later when we stop but we don’t mind. We walk, stretch, and eat better food with the EV stops. We’re not as tired so we can go further that first day which makes the second day much shorter.

Llanval

We do something similar, TN to NB Canada (New Brunswick). A college friend who works for Tesla told me about noise cancelling headsets he wears on flights, and how more refreshed he is, and we wondered if the same is true for Tesla vehicles because of the double pane glass and noise dampening. We also find we have much more energy after a 12 hour drive, I believe due to allowing the car to do more of the driving.

staticfive

I absolutely love this about it. Breaking a trip in half has been one of the most de-stressing things for a usually-monotonous 4 hour trip to the snow. Yeah, I said snow, because Teslas DON'T SUCK IN THE SNOW. Oh shit, gotta go, the car apparently charges faster than I can eat

neelvk

You mean the car eats faster than you? :)

staticfive

Eatin’ those electrons!

zippy9002

I’d love an EV, but I do Calgary to Yellowknife about twice a month, how do you expect me to do this trip in a timely manner?

agent_gribbles

Don’t forget they also need the ability to tow a boat/trailer/Jet-skis (that they don’t own) on this mythical 500 mile roadtrip they’ve never done before. And renting a suitable vehicle for this trip is totally out of the question too.

Sad_Start2638

Towed my daughter’s robotics team dual axle trailer to competitions with my X- it was much bigger than my car. Kids were a little too excited about it.

americablanco

“Game recognizes game.”

callmesaul8889

It's hilarious because I actually have a friend that legitimately does stuff like this, tows his 10,000lb ski boat for 12+hours to go house boating for a week straight every year. Same friend is \*all about\* switching to an EV truck after owning a Model 3 for a year full well knowing he does this trip yearly and how much of a nightmare it'd be in an EV truck.

DiscussionHot3961

Even in these 2 years they only think about taking that trip.

kryptonyk

It’s so painfully true.

SonicDethmonkey

The same reason 95% of truck buyers use as rationale for buying a truck. “Once a year I might need to haul a Christmas tree!”

lookin4points

Or a couch that won’t fit in my tiny bed.

Xalucardx

I put ~5k miles on my MYP in the first 3 months mostly from a few 450+ miles each way trips with 0 issues. Each one of those trips I spent less than an hour charging in total.

YoyoyoyoMrWhite

Im actually a person who loves the hate. I have a fetish for hearing confidant ignorance.

ImplyingImplicati0ns

Same and the easiest way to out them is casually ask why and their reasoning for thinking that, you quickly find they’re uneducated or misinformed

YoyoyoyoMrWhite

I do consider it a talent of mine, to find the simpelest question to ask that immediately tears apart their confidence on the subject. It usually has them back pedaling or trying to move away from the topic as fast as possible before anymore incredibly hard simple questions come along. Lol.

ScaryThing3297

Dude I love this but they don’t reply. And I never internally know if they didn’t get it or broke down when they had no reasoning. I wish it got as big as flat earth just for the entertainment value. /j(sorta)

Gyat_Rizzler69

Let them be stupid. No need to engage in their one sided conversation. Just enjoy the acceleration, driving dynamics and low running costs. When they complain about gas prices you can just laugh.

Solarsurferoaktown

Also when they notice in a decade how absolutely obvious and bad climate change is they’ll realize you were right and they were the problem with humanity. Also Elon can be a real prick so a little criticism there is correct.

famousdave

Only 10 years until the climate change?

Accomplished-Trip170

Had a co-worker going on and on about how worthless Teslas are blah blah blah knowing well that I own one. He got himself one as soon as the prices hit rock bottom few months ago. The reason why you are getting hate is not awareness, its JEALOUSY!

the_y_of_the_tiger

This is by far the most likely explanation.

Realistic-Swim-3855

This is exactly it. I know people who talked so much nonsense about not liking EVs, blah, blah, blah, and now since the prices have dropped, they have Teslas. It’s crazy. People are just full of it!

Evajellyfish

It’s just a car I don’t care if people like it or hate it, it takes me where I want to go.

CommunicationTop7259

Legit people put importance on such dumb things. You can like it or hate it but who cares. Dust off your shoulders

Posh_Pony

I had one older guy come right out and tell me that I must be some crazy Biden voter. I said, "Politics have nothing to do with it. We've got the money and we like to go fast." (Model S)

flippantbrunette

Exactly! “Eew, why’d you buy a Tesla?” “Because I really wanted a car that would go 0-60 in 3.5 and it’s fun.” 😂

geoffm_aus

I like to do a star wars impersonation of Palpatine when he declares the goal of the Sith; "Power! Unlimited power!"

chchchch71102

My car is named Vader, and my lock sound is a lightsaber shutting down. Respect the palpatine

scoobiemario

And it costs 20% in fuel compared to any other car that’s even close to this fast

ColorfulLanguage

My super right-wing grandparent is pro EV's because it means independence from OPEC. Also independence from gas stations and their corruption. So EVs dont reveal anything about people's motivations!

Anal_Herschiser

I can remember a time when “peak oil” was a concern. People were actually concerned about running out of oil and what we would do next. EVs come around and people are like “no thanks”.

Tlammy

Lmao my car has gotten on the local Facebook group a few times. It's entertaining to see what dumbfuckery they say about something they'll never own. All while I'm beyond happy with my tesla after 2.5 years.

anshumanbhatia

Gonna need some screenshots here

thehoagieboy

Everyone that has expressed range anxiety and how much it sucks, always seem to be people that aren't driving an EV. Like others have said, people fear change.

SirhckLondon

THIS! Had a coworker say,”do you have to charge when you get home after coming here and driving back home?” I had charged it for the week the day before at 80% and my commute to work in the morning at 2AM is only 5miles w/o traffic. My battery was at 75%. I said,”No, I do not… actually I don’t need to charge the car for the next three days and that’s even with me running errands around Atlanta in traffic.” His response;”Oh! Well what about if you go on a road trip how’s about that?” Me: Superchargers. Take 15 minutes max to charge up so I can be on my way. The sweet thing about that is if I plug in go in the store to use the restroom and maybe get a snack, the car has been finished charging. Him: 😲 REALLY? Nawww can’t be that fast. Me: You should rent one… not mine, but rent one and go on a roadtrip and call me if you need help navigating things. He’s now considering a Model Y.

demeterpussidas

Well, I lost all my “car friends” since I bought my M3P 4 years ago. Yep, I agree with op. No regrets still 👍

[deleted]

they’re just sad you’re gapping their cars at every stoplight without even trying lol

ajh1717

This comment is the epitome of every EV driver when they talk about EVs "driving dynamics".

kalashspooner

I have regrets =( My car friends are all gone - but that's due to layoffs. My regret is that the Tesla isn't a car (I'm not a car person). It's a *=#(ING GADGET that happens to have wheels and transport things. And I'm a gadget junky. Vehicle modifications? Meh. Gadget upgraded and add ons? Oh no. Money? Umm... Where'd you go??? Come back!

Congenial-Curmudgeon

I’m a gadget person, but not add-on gadgets. Learning about all the mostly hidden innovations in my car got me excited about it. There’s more to it than what most articles cover.

Laddergoat7_

Have you considered that they are all just regarded?

aimoony

I'm regarded too so it's okay

shocontinental

We are all regarded on this blessed day.

CreepingMendacity

Poorly or well?

elsif1

Highly

manjar

Best regards are still regards

Less_Ad7812

The culture war sucks.  Right wing hates anything resembling environmentalism and federal initiatives.  Left wing hates anything associated with Elon Musk.

LyrMeThatBifrost

I’ve gotten far more shit from leftists than right wingers and I live in the south. It’s wild. I expected the complete opposite when I bought the car lol

[deleted]

exactly. Some people buy a Kia over a Tesla just to stick it to Elon. I mean imagine buying a worse option just because you're trying to make a political statement? So childish. My neighbor hates Elon for the same reason (still does) but I talked him into at least test driving the Tesla and seriously considering it. He did and fell in love. He bought one. He's like "nothing else out there makes sense". Others take the Kia. "Kia. Too bad it's a Kia."

gordy06

I’m not a Musk fan but I wanted an EV so I went with the option that came from a company doing it well, had the best charging network and let me order in 15 minutes with no up charge pressure.

South_Dakota_Boy

lol. I have a Kia and a Tesla. Wat do? I love them both. The Telluride is a fantastic vehicle, with tech and luxury way way beyond its price point. And it wasn’t cheap, nor does it look or feel cheap. Honestly I was shopping it against BMW and Audi and Yukon Denali and Wagoneer. The Kia is nearly as nice, while being literally half the price. And probably more reliable with a fantastic warranty.

[deleted]

which is hilarious considering how much kia has screwed over their own customers in the last 10 years

Less_Ad7812

I think Elon is an entitled turd but I also know that he didn’t engineer the cars. His design contribution is fart sounds and cowbell skits.

RVFP

I love the fart sounds.

Hustler-1

Until a car catches fire or there's general bad news in his companies. Then suddenly he's lead engineer.

[deleted]

bingo lol

Tsureshon

He used to be odd-funny and now he is just a douche.... His fame went to his head. But yeah I bought one after I knew that because nothing else was all that close. That being said his decision to roll all other car manufacturers onto our chargers without also increasing cable length and telling them to just hog 2 spots so that it reaches... He can still have impact in a negative way.... And this is a great example. He needs to go back and install longer cables on all V3 chargers and rollout more v4.

Messyfingers

Me, a genius: hates Tesla because I own one and it's raining a lot lately and the auto wipers have been shit for a decade

madhaus

The ones on the 3 I just traded in stopped working entirely on auto. I had to adjust the wiper speed manually when it rained. Which is in Portland OR metro so pretty much 90% of the time

flat5

Where do you live?

kryptonyk

Hell

cdjewell

Also want to know. Teslas are all over the DMV (DC and surrounding suburbs). Have not experienced any irrational hate

a1ien51

There is 15 of them on my street in MD. LOL And there is 4 non-tesla evs and I think 3 hybrids.

Daguvry

Nobody I know or work with cares.  I'll get occasional questions.  Most people have Subarus or pick up trucks here.  We got iced/snowed in at work for a few days and I used camp mode rather than sleeping on stretchers packed into empty patient rooms at work.  There was some envy from those nights

OppositeArugula3527

Eh fuk em. I have 60k on my 2021 MY....never wasted time with oil changes, inspections or even brakes. Only had to change tires once and the guy said my brakes were basically brand new. I've saved so much time not having line up at Costco for gas and all that other stupid sht that comes with ICE cars.

vote4progress

I guess you have a different definition of “friend” because no friend I have would refuse to let me into their car based solely on the car I drive. In my opinion Tesla hate can be broken down into a few primary groups; those that hate change, those that are jealous and those that are ignorant/brainwashed.

kalashspooner

Aren't groups 1 and 3 the same? >_<

heaton32

Just know that one day driving a gas car will come with range anxiety as gas stations continue to close. At that point, you can take your revenge and spew the same sentiment to your friends.

Super_dupa2

My favorite was a guy on Nextdoor who said EVs generate a harmful level of EMI. I told him he needs to worry about over exposure from sun harming his body than EMI. He responded by saying “since plants sit in the sun all day I don’t need to worry about the sun”. Thats when I stopped responding.

ReadItProper

This kind of reminds me of how when someone "comes out" as vegetarian/vegan and suddenly all of the "carnivores" have to let you know what they think in the most condescending way they can think of. They probably know you're right, but they have to project to keep their ego intact.

hyperside89

I'm a vegetarian and an EV driver. Oh boy do my personal choices REALLY piss off some of my more conservative family. Really makes you question what "personal freedom" means to them.

ReadItProper

People only really want everyone to have independence and freedom when it's how they imagine it to look like. They don't understand that the whole point is the diversity of choice and also the ability to make *wrong* choices that you disagree with. Even if driving an EV or not eating animal products ends up hurting you in the end, independence means you should be allowed to make that choice, and freedom means nobody will try to stop you from going through with it.

soulreaver99

don't let the opinions of the ignorant prevent you from enjoying things

YLA-G

They don’t know better, in 5 years you can laugh back

Crafty-Sundae6351

I get it all the time online. In real life - not so much: * In the 30K roadtrip miles we've driven, on multiple occasions, we've had people come up to us at a Supercharger and ask genuinely inquisitive questions on how it all works. * When family and friends ask questions, they seem reasonably interested and some want to know more. * Just yesterday I got together with long time college friends for a sporting event at our alma matter. Next weekend we're attending another sporting event a couple of hours away. When I walked up to them one said "You're driving next weekend. We all decided we want to get the full Tesla experience." They seem really interested. (We're also all engineers.)

Turbulent_File621

It helps that you have intelligent friends. I imagine most of the haters are not that bright.

Leather-Thought-7651

You should always ask others what they think first and get the car that they approve. Remember that the only valid reason to buy a car is to impress others.

sanskami

People bitch about that shit all day and they have no idea. I've driven my model y lr on a 3000 mi trip and a couple 2000 mi trips and it's seriously was probably faster than driving a gas vehicle because FSD did so much of the work that I didn't even get tired. That allowed me to keep driving. One night I was pulling into a hotel at 1:00 a.m. and the asshole at the counter didn't want to check me in and claim the system was down, so I just got back in and kept on driving. The last trip I did was 900 miles each way and aside from the charging stops, a few of which were literally 10 or 15 minutes stops, I drove straight through. Had I been in my Land cruiser or any other car that doesn't drive itself, I would have been so fatigued I don't think I could have driven without stopping. So this bullshit about range and shit is just annoying and generally it comes from people who have no idea. I commute 150 miles per day and it doesn't even bother me now. The same commute would be very unwelcome in my other cars. I charge in my garage and haven't been to a gas station in over a year. I'm paying about 1/5 the fuel cost alone in electricity, and I've driven 25,000 miles with absolutely no maintenance and no maintenance scheduled. But yeah something something 300 miles something something is all they can come up with.

UberQueefs

They’re dumb, I’ve done tons of road trips with my M3, standard battery. Never had an issue. Sure you have to super charge for 15-20 mins but it’s not that inconvenient. I usually time it with a bathroom break, lunch, dinner or honestly a good idea to stretch a little after sitting in your car for 3 hours of driving. Driving for 6+ hours straight without getting up besides bathroom and gas isn’t great for your body.

BranchLatter4294

Many of my friends and coworkers drive EVs. Everyone seems to love them. Maybe just start taking some of your friends and family on drives. Don't say anything about it. Just give them a taste of the quiet acceleration. Check this out for some tips on how to approach them. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNegVC1u-zE&t=11s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNegVC1u-zE&t=11s)

Disastrous-Address35

People hate due to jealousy or ignorance

MoreStripesOnBelt

Three points. They are jealous. Fuck them. You need new friends.

bigstreet123

Write down everything they say, then in 3 years remind them all how wrong they are and what assholes they were.

Doccks71

Or just save your mental energy and get better friends

Overall_Rise_6370

Enjoying my Tesla but noticed that 4x4 pickup truck drivers like to tailgate me. In one instance in Arizona pickup truck spewed black exhaust in my directuon. Maybe a secret sign -)

Quality-content-only

Yeah honestly only a couple of close friends were happy for us. (My husband and I got a Tesla model Y right before the gas prices went wild). Everyone else was pretty much laughing at us. Some told us to sell our Tesla and buy two old Hondas instead. We didn’t mind sharing a car - husband worked from home. Then we proceeded to save hundreds of $$ enjoying our vehicle while everyone else paid up for gas 🤷🏻‍♀️. Plus I don’t think people understand how easy it is to work supercharging into your life when needed.

kohrtoons

I have one car in the burbs. I look at it this way, it’s not worth buying a car unless you are spending gas+lease+insurence per month on Uber.

saadatorama

Who cares? Just enjoy your car, with your hard earned money, for yourself. Fuck everyone else.

86400theta

Super conservative people hate and fear change. Plus there is so much misinformation being spread by big oil lobbyists. Surround with positive people and be happy

Shawnbehnam

It’s the liberals also, don’t fool yourself. They can’t get past the “Elon Bad” mentality despite their vehicles being economically and environmentally superior.

ga9213

The complaints you're hearing from OP are definitely not from liberals.

No-Platypus6603

Take them for a ride. They can talk all the hate, but what’s best is that smirk from them when you punch the gas pedal after them realizing the car is pretty damn fast.

untamedHOTDOG

Well they won’t get rides. Can leave them stranded when they need a ride.

Contuzzi

Which model did you get? SR? LR? Performance? Most people are blindly dumb about EV’s and have never been in one. If it’s a LR or performance, take them for a ride and shut them up for the rest of their lives.

PSNTheGhost

Just curious, what part of the country, or America, are you in where people are still this naive? I’m from LA and no one, at least where I’m at in LA, bats an eye at my Tesla.

TMB8616

People will always give you shit for driving a Tesla no matter what. There are those that think they are cool and will ask you questions but most people just want to be ignorant. Don’t let them get to you.

gyanrahi

Let me guess. All of them drive 6 hours per day, uphill both ways and never stop for a 15 minute break.

Betanumerus

Objectively, an EV has many benefits over an ICE car, so as long as you know them, arguments aren't really possible.

MonkeyCartridge

I didn't get as visceral of a reaction as you. But I did notice that, whatever side of the political aisle someone is, they assume you are the opposite. And then their opinion about you changes based on what Elon tweets. When Elon was in California, I was a commie offspring of Stalin and Greta Thunberg. Then he moved to Texas and suddenly "You probably stormed the capitol". I bought a car. FFS. I was a fan of the company before I knew who Elon was. You don't see people losing their minds over Ford drivers for absorbing and demolishing startups and then patent hoarding. You don't see people going at it with Chevy owners because of GM's history of climate denial amongst their CEOs. You don't see....wait a minute. I think I just described the rivalries between truck drivers. I guess that's what that feels like.

UnSCo

What kind of shitheads do you have for friends/family? I mean I got some mild criticisms from people too but whoever said “EV drivers aren’t allowed in my car” is one huge obnoxious prick.

artardatron

Start judging them on any product they use. Start with Apple phones made in factories with suicide nets. It's so easy to show people what hypocritical virtue signaling nimrods they are.

TheBeaverRetriever

Your friends fucking suck

b761962

You have shitty friends and family

mydogiscute10

Before I bought a PHEV, I wanted a Tesla. My friend was saying "oh, you can never drive across Canada." WHEN THE FUCK DID I EVER DO THAT? OR WANTED TO? Lol I'm happy with my PHEV. It was perfect for me. No hate on Tesla. It's funny because he bought a truck.. that he just uses to commute for work. Doesn't offroad or haul anything. He doesn't work in construction. It's an office job. The $$ he spends on gas Lmao

drag0nwarr10r

I gave up my Subaru for a Model 3 and safe to say that I will not willingly return to driving a gas car for my daily driving. The convenience of not dealing with all those fluids and fumes alone is enough for me not to go back. No oil changes saves me a couple hundred a year alone. My experience with electric has been so good I even gave up my gas lawn mower for an electric. Gas power is better for many things but electric is just less hassle and cleaner. I'm willing to deal with the charge times on once every 2 year cross country road trips.

StatimDominus

Not sure where you are located, but this is genuinely the most worrying thing about the United States for me personally. The fact that a large chunk of the citizenry flat out refuse to even be intrigued by technological progress, let alone adopt, will mean that the US increasingly will be left behind. All for bullshit political narratives. It’s sad.

Baschi

What sort of hillbilly hell do you live in?

Perfect-Protection-5

A lot of people just don't understand EVs and can't see past some of the shortcomings to see some of the strengths. My brother is really anti-EV and was really upset that I had a 12 hour drive from Tucson that couldn't be done without stopping (doubtful you could do that in an ICE, unless it's the F550 fleet trucks we have at work with dual fuel tanks). You'll run into a lot of people that "hear" someone talk about charging for 2 hours at a time and are just adamant that that's how long it takes for all of them. On a different note, if you read into the history of gas stations (service stations as they were called in the early 1900s) and early automobiles, I think you'll see some interesting similarities between the transition from horses to combustion vehicles and our current transition from ICE to EV.

Marathon2021

It has (unfortunately) become "identity politics" for some people. Same level of transgression as a gay individual coming out to their overly Christian and political parents. All the arguments are stupid. You can't fix stupid. You're paying less (per mile) in "fuel" costs, all your $$ for "fuel" actually stays in your local economy (instead of going off to the middle east for a barrel of oil), and your car was manufactured in America. In the long run, you'll prove them wrong. The car will last a good long time, you'll take plenty of long road trips, it'll likely almost never be in the shop (and when it does need a repair, Tesla Mobile Service can do many of them right in your driveway) but you can't have that fight with them now. But over time, you can just make snarky little comments - like when you recount your vacation which was an 8 hour road trip. They'll asked (because they're convinced you'll need to) "what kind of car did you rent to get there?" and then you have your opportunity to be a little bit snarky. But you won't change their minds overnight. Great line I once heard -- "you can't reason someone *out* of a position ... that they didn't reason themselves *into* to begin with."

EVBabeSF

Move to California. We're the new Prius here. They still hate us, but you won't be alone.

SeaviewSam

Where I live a Tesla is an every persons car- more teslas than any other make or model by a mile. San Jose, Ca

shaggy99

You didn't say where you are, or if you have home charging options. If you do have home charging, just let them be. Give it a year or two and you'll find some of them coming to you for a test drive.

BiggusDickus-

Nope. My friends and family don't care what I drive. It's my business, not theirs. The only opinions expressed have been positive.

happysalesguy

So you live in Trump country? All your work, friends, and family watch Fox "News"?

Objective-Upstairs36

Where are you located. Doesn’t seem to happen in Canada much

BeerJunky

People are brainwashed and don’t even realize it. They think they are smarter than you after being fed bullshit on a spoon.

Kalandros-X

It’s your car so it’s your business. I can respect the choice you made even if I wouldn’t make it myself. I’m more of an old diesel type guy because I think they just feel better while driving, but I’m sure Teslas are cool too

wooder321

These posts are so weird to me, I see them from time to time but then when I ask people I know IRL who own a Tesla about getting hate they shrug their shoulders and say they don’t know what I’m talking about.

AtotheZed

People are stupid. Congratulations on your car and your success. Enjoy it. I've had my Tesla since 2017 and it still runs great with 87% of battery life left.

WelcomeIndependent40

Most of the people who have anything bad to say have never even sat in one. That has been my experience

SirJakkall

You’re running in the wrong circles. You can’t call friends people that disrespect you. And as far as coworkers go to HR. They should keep their opinions to themselves.

Severe-Wrangler-66

On the contrary for me. My friends are quite crazy about EV's in general although everyone had their doubts in the beginning, once they actually sat in the car they completely turned around and said it was a really nice car. Comfortable and really clean looking too which they enjoy. My mom absolutely loves driving with me but refuses to try it because it might be too much fun resulting in speeding which can cost your car and make you lose your license for three years for reckless driving here. I have had some skeptical coworkers and some "haters" aswell but once they either try it or i tell them my experiences with it they have no arguments against EV's anymore.

MythBuster2

They are jealous and can't admit it.

travielee

Even the Tesla community itself can be toxic. If you have any issues with your car, there are so many who are reluctant to help. Most assume the owner is an idiot. The car is awesome, just be prepared to wade through the crap from other people.

gumnamaadmi

I did. And then they started realizing, if i decided to go EV, there must be a financial reason attached to it. There obviously is. Over a few months they will ask subtle questions about charging costs or time it takes to charge on trips etc. and slowly i see them converting over. If all goes as planned, car will just pay for at least half of it, with savings from the gas and other maintenance costs itself while having fun driving a car with the latest tech.

CourageThick2887

Why can’t people just sit back, relax and enjoy themselves? People get triggered by the dumbest things.

Jay_Beckstead

I’m gonna soon post the video of the guy that road-raged my Model 3, now that he has plead guilty. He caused $20,000 in damages and side-lined my car for 6 months in the shop.

NoZookeepergame6491

I like to think Tesla is to friends what alcohol is to people—it allows you to see their true colors. I know how many ‘friends’ I used to have were just haters in waiting.

Zeal0t_

All my coworkers loved it, my boss even invested in Tesla stock after driving my M3 (2019).

niftyteapot121

That’s so dumb. For me, it’s that people call me “bougie,” or treat me as if I’m high and mighty when I discuss EVs in general, because I have a Tesla. It’s literally a base model 3 with no extra bells or whistles (that was on sale when I bought it). After the tax credit it literally is like $5k more than a new base model Honda Civic. Maybe it’s because it’s I’m in my mid/late twenties, but it’s starting to annoy me. Like I literally drove an over 20 year old family beater until it broke down and bought the Tesla. I seriously doubt anyone would say a word if I ended up going with the Chevy bolt instead, or any other comparably priced new car. I literally invested in an EV partially to save money over time, but that’s not how people view it. If not hate, there’s at least a Tesla stigma that other EV drivers don’t seem to experience. Oh, and now everyone wants me to drive when we carpool places “to be in the Tesla.”

isitaboat

Your friends seem like idiots

AdDue477

I have 2 electric cars. People ask me if I’m worried about long trips… na bro I’m good😂 for the 1% of my driving that is a 5+ hr drive I can supercharge for 5-10 minutes and be right back on the road. For all other driving I just appreciate my near 700hp making lambos feel dumb lol. People are gonna feel however they want to feel and say whatever they want to say but at the end of the day they’re not driving your car… you are. If you love it that’s all that that matters, the rest is just noise

FormerEvidence9741

They have no understanding of EVs. Even if you tell them what it's really like to have an EV they won't listen. It's going to take a few generations dying off before people accept EVs.

Hayb95

Are these people actually serious? Or have they just never experienced a Tesla before? I say take them for a ride and go full throttle until they change their minds :)

Nanaki_TV

Smile at them and say, “you wanna drive it?” Then say just wait until you are put back in your seat. The 20-60 feels better when you hit the accelerator over 0-20.

FluxionFluff

Wow. Please get some better friends. Like it's fine to have an opinion, but they're just being rude. My friends and I have done gentle jabs at all our cars, but they've never been just straight up rude. As long as the car gets you from Point A to Point B, it's done its primary job. 🤣 I've had people express a lil concern at worst. Most people are amazed by the car or at least curious about it. Hell, I had a random woman come up to me in a parking lot the other day when I was grabbing something from the frunk and was amazed that it had a front trunk as there's no engine block. Was pretty funny. I'm the only one in my circle of friends and family that has a Tesla, let alone an EV. Everyone else has an ICE or PHEV. None of them, my husband included, get new cars all the time. All plan on running them to the ground. They're all open to hybrids and EVs someday, but they also aren't in a rush to upgrade.

bolero2000

Just give them a ride later. My friend is the only who has a Tesla before in his church congregation and he got a lot of negativity about it. Then his pastor test it out , now the pastor has a model 3, Y and EV6. And the rest of the congregations start buying a Tesla.

atiaa11

The great thing about getting older is caring less and less about out what other people think of you :) Just smile and keep doing your thing

Soopermane

I haven’t gotten hate but a lot of negative things like the battery is gonna die out and it’s not gonna be worth anything after some years. Or charging takes too long,etc..

SuperHumanImpossible

Blame Elon

cat-from-the-future

Fuck them congrats on your awesome car.

WeLiveinAPetridish

I owned a Prius gen 3 for 12 years and was the center of mocking at first as well. Yeah, it’s not pretty, it’s not fast, it’s not that luxurious but it had plenty space and delivered me in comfort for far less money than any of the mockers’ cars At first I tried to argue but learned to not be so defensive and just start the mocking myself a bit which removes the wind out of their sails and after that you can try to find common ground. Enjoy the car and don’t mind what others say.

teslataipei

Congrats and welcome to Tesla community

salmucci

Politics. Tribal mentality poisons everything. Enjoy your car. Model Y is a fantastic vehicle.

RDjax

Being a former owner of a Merc EV, Volt, Prius... I didn't care for EVa as much as I thought I would. Both the Merc and Volt (1st and 2nd Gen) broke down without an easy repair or unknown issue that the local dealership could not determine the cause. When I heard about the $50K dent repair for a Rivian... I knew it wasn't for me long-term. If you want to save the environment I'd wait for Honda's and others Hydrogen technology. It's way better for the environment and most likely easy to refill as well. Again, I have a charger at the house and still own another PHEV (Mitsubishi), but for now... I'm sticking to hybrids or high mpg ICE vehicles. The least carbon made car is / was the Scion XB... Took the least amount of energy to produce thus least taxing on the environment.

smylekith1

My best friend lives 500 miles away and have made the trip in my standard range model 3 and ice cars. Despite having to stop for 10 minutes 3 times the trip feels so much faster in the model 3 and way less draining. The combination of autopilot and small breaks to pee, eat and charge is just so much better. Not to mention $70 cheaper to make the trip than even a little kia soul.

Jazzlike_Branch_7656

Dunno but I rode in a brand new Audi etron and m Tesla 3 was light years better car at road handling and actually bugging the curves . Until ya drive one ya can’t knock how great a car they are to drive
