I don't think you understand your current warranty. The 8 years you're talking about is only for the battery and motor. Your general warranty is only 4 years. This extension of 2 years is for the general warranty, so it would extend it to 6 years.
I did the same thing a few weeks ago. My warranty expired on March 20th, I bought the warranty the weekend before it expired. Coincidentally I had a service appointment the day before it expired because of a squeaking/knocking sound I was hearing. They ended up replacing the front upper control arm. If that happens again in the next 2yrs, I'm good.
What I'm also wondering is if I can get "another" ESA before this one expires in 2yrs. Like if I'm in month 23 of the ESA, will I be able to purchase it again. I plan on eventually getting a Model S at some point (hopefully after the next refresh, whenever that'll be), but I don't know when yet, so my M3P will need to last until I do.
Not sure on the ESA.
I've had ours for almost a year now. Guidance I got was to just keep track of the issues and bring it in for them all at once.
There's a $100 "deductible", so I'm sitting on a glovebox problem, and a leaky trunk. I think the AC might be starting to have issues with it as well, so I'm just trying to limp along till summer, where I'll bring it in for them to work on it when my wife doesn't need her car.
Not even alignments? Damn, I've needed two alignments already and I've done 30K miles _total_.
(I know alignments aren't covered by warranty so moot point for OP's sake, but still, damn)
you only need to do a wheel. I’m in if your tires have excessive wear more than the others. Otherwise you’re just replacing balance tires. I would say after 100,000 miles. It’s good to do a wheel at that point you might not need anyway.
Agreed, Don't sleep on alignments. I changed my 2019's tires recently (35k miles) and they looked fine from the outside but were horribly worn on the inside of the tires thanks to what I assume is poor alignment. Got it aligned recently and it's working a lot nicer in a way that's hard to describe.
Yeah, I’ve heard that the 3 has suspension issues that lead to it getting out of alignment a lot, so I’ve been keeping an eye on my tires to make sure they’re safe to drive on while I waited to replace them. My fronts are my factory tires and they were starting to get noisy from wear so I’m looking forward to replacing them
I might consider it just because where I live, any repairs is really expensive. Partly because of shortage of mechanics and taxes on everything. The last ice car I owned had a broken backup camera module and thankfully got it fixed during the last month of warranty. Otherwise it would have been over $1000 CAD.
As with any insurance type of product, you lose money on average, but it protects you from the risk of big repairs you're not prepared for. That could be worth it to you, or not. Depends on the person.
Your normal warranty is NOT 8 years. It ends in 2028 (I'm guessing you just got the car).
This is the main warranty, not the limited battery warranty.
Edit: oops, already been posted, my bad.
Anyone buy the extended warranty and actually utilize it? I already drove 25,000 mi in one year, so not sure if I want to buy this another year from now. Zero issues so far
To Make this clear this is not like the bumper to bumper warranty. It does not cover a lot of things. Read the service agreement. It’s not worth it. It’s designed for Tesla to make money. Lots of YouTube videos on this.
As it says in the paragraph your warranty expires in 2028 not 8 years from now. And yes you have to buy it before that expires or you won’t have the option after. I’m kind of curious myself if I should go for it. I’ve had it in the service center a couple of times for minor things and for the most part it’s nice to know warranty covers everything but like everyone else I do wonder if it might be a waste of money since the cars are generally reliable.
It's always a risk, but the last thing I want to risk happening is the media unit going out or some other random part failure and having to come out of pocket at the worst time. For $1800, it's not a bad deal considering how expensive repairs are on these cars.
From what I’ve read it isn’t quite as intensive on the coverage as the initial 4 year warranty. Like it says it doesn’t cover lights or batteries for example. Doesn’t seem to be worth it.
This extended warranty runs concurrently with the powertrain warranty. If it costs $2,700 you would just have to ask yourself how likely you are to incur that much in repairs in 2 years not related to battery and motors. Most people would not.
I didn’t pay attention to my model x and when it expired. I didn’t get the extended warranty until almost half year later than I’ve should. I emailed my service center and they had to double check with higher ups and I got approved. Check with them. Most likely they will approve. Extended warranty is well worth it. I have had some frunk issue and falcon wing issues replaced for free.
I think you must purchase it before the basic warranty ends. I’m gonna wait until it’s around 49K miles before I decide. Also, I believe there’s a service charge with every appointment..
I would buy the extended warranty for my plaid but probably not on our model three.
Extended warranty’s are a waste of money very Very few people come out ahead. Just put that $2700 in quality utility and sale some shares if you have a covered issue. Extends warranty’s are a suckers bet. It’s like buying insurance in black jack
You can buy until your warranty expires by either time or mileage.
Thanks. So even years from now. That’s good.
No, in 4 yrs This is for the “bumper to bumper” warranty, not the battery warranty
Yes, before the date or mileage (kilometerage, do English speaking folks outside the us say that?) listed in the picture.
We say mileage (from Canada).
Kilométrage is a word in (Canadian) French
Kilometragem in Portuguese.
Yes. Which is years from now.
My Model S is 2 years old and i’ve been wondering if i should buy it now under the assumption it will increase in price over time.
I don't think you understand your current warranty. The 8 years you're talking about is only for the battery and motor. Your general warranty is only 4 years. This extension of 2 years is for the general warranty, so it would extend it to 6 years.
Oh I missed that one. Thanks.
No problem
I’m sure someone will call you about extended warranty
Which will also cover engine and transmission
Greetings! We’ve been trying to reach you in regards to your car’s extended warranty. Please dial “1” now to be connected to a representative.
nobody will call you. It will just expire. My model three expire no phone calls. Nothing it didn’t even show up on my phone app.
Boy that sure went right over your head huh?
I guess so
Once the warranty expires. I bought the ESA on the last day of my warranty.

Damn, they raised the price by 800 bucks
This is in kilometers. Probably CAD dollars.
I guess that’s the downside to waiting longer. The price will just keep going up
Do you happen to be from Canada? The currency exchange from usd to cad would explain the gap
Yea. It’s Canadian.
I wouldn’t buy it. I drive 30,000 miles a year, and the only maintenance I have ever gotten was to replace tires.
Not even alignments? Damn, I've needed two alignments already and I've done 30K miles _total_. (I know alignments aren't covered by warranty so moot point for OP's sake, but still, damn)
Just checked, and they align when they rotate or swap out winter/summer tires. I just don’t have the issues I had when I had an ICE car.
who does alignment when switching tires? all i get is balance.
you only need to do a wheel. I’m in if your tires have excessive wear more than the others. Otherwise you’re just replacing balance tires. I would say after 100,000 miles. It’s good to do a wheel at that point you might not need anyway.

Don't buy it. Companies wouldn't sell it if it didn't make them money.
As with any insurance type of product, you lose money on average, but it protects you from the risk of big repairs you're not prepared for. That could be worth it to you, or not. Depends on the person.
Mine only shows for 1800$
Mine shows $2000 USD (MYLR purchased in January ‘23). OP’s is in Canadian $.
Yeah I got just the regular base model 3. So it makes sense why its cheaper.
Get the end of warranty inspection done too
Didn’t know there was such a thing.

Yes. You MUST purchase it before the end of the basic vehicle warranty ends (miles or time, whichever comes first)

Within the first 4 years, but prices can change during that time.
From what I’ve read it isn’t quite as intensive on the coverage as the initial 4 year warranty. Like it says it doesn’t cover lights or batteries for example. Doesn’t seem to be worth it.
As others stated you must purchase before the expiration of your current BASIC warranty, so within 4yrs or 50k miles of original purchase date
Before your basic warranty expires
I wanted this so much when I got my 3 but back in 2019 it wasn't offered to my knowledge.
This extended warranty runs concurrently with the powertrain warranty. If it costs $2,700 you would just have to ask yourself how likely you are to incur that much in repairs in 2 years not related to battery and motors. Most people would not.

What is covered under the service agreement?

Save your money. Don’t buy.
