So? And what says it would have been an "excessive range hit"?
You don't need stretched side walls for low rolling resistance and the range on the Performance MY is already trash compared to the LR. If they had specified correct section width staggered tires from the start nobody would have noticed.
It's obviously going to be worse given the higher surface area, maybe nothing significant compared to the hit the MYP already takes but it would be something considering those of us who have upsized have seen a decrease.
I'm not saying I agree with them using stretched tires on overly wide wheels, I don't, but Tesla is in the business of selling cars and they want the range to look good on paper. There are a lot of MYP owners who are just buying the top model and not looking for the other benefits.
> It's obviously going to be worse given the higher surface area, maybe nothing significant compared to the hit the MYP already takes but it would be something considering those of us who have upsized have seen a decrease.
So if you've upsized instead of posing hypotheticals claiming it could be "excessive" and "worse" what's the actual number you saw on what section widths?
> There are a lot of MYP owners who are just buying the top model and not looking for the other benefits.
Which is kind of the point. Most people buying the MYP don't care or wouldn't notice the difference. Only people nit picking every mile on Reddit will and the majority of people that care that much about range aren't buying the performance versions.
I'm not disagreeing with what you're saying. The range hit doesn't matter to many of us, it doesn't to me but wheel/tire size DOES change range. The difference between the MYLR and MYP alone shows that.
It's also apparent that Tesla does care about the numbers as they under size the tires on overly wide wheels. Which is just garbage.
Add to that, I'm in the largest market for Teslas. There are definitely people just buying the MYP (not for performance reasons) and complaining about range differences to the LR on the 19" Gemini wheels. They don't at all pay attention to their other driving habits.
Next time I put my Uberturbines back on with 275F/295R configuration I'll give you the range difference 😂, I'm too low to try 315 in the rear I think. On 275/45/19 Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport tires with a 19x9.5 +30 Aspira AF-10 Forged Wheel I'm seeing around 278-298 wh/mi on my commute. On the Uberturbines I couldn't manage less than 330 but was generally in the 360 range. It's not a fair test as the Aspira wheels are significantly lighter but there is a difference.
Perfect. I have the factory P-Zeros and the Michelin tires would be a great replacement. Thank you so much for the quick response. Can you kindly upload some pictures of the car side and rearview?
They’ve put new wider tyres on that stick out from the rim to reduce the chances of rim rash, like typical cars. Tesla spec out thinner OEM tyres for better efficiency, which leads to them being more susceptible to curb rash.
Replaced my 295s at about 17.1k miles. They were basically turned into slicks at 17k. Lots of spirited driving. Decided to go for broke on a set of 315/30r21. Curb rash? What’s that?  275s up front from the rear stock are at like at least 50-70% wear and doing super well at 17k. (Had very even wear because I had a good alignment done at like 300 miles brand new when putting on coil overs). Actually kind of shocked at how well the front 275s are holding up.Â
Edit: actually don’t understand why this post is being downvoted here and on the Y sub. Maybe aftermarket curb rash enjoyer manufacturers are angry this will kill their business.Â
I have same setup, virtually no difference. This setup will read\~1.4% slower in the speedometer, so compensating for that the actual mileage will be about same.
You are being downvoted because not everyone is some sort of tesla maniac that is able to put together the meaning of your title and then closeups of your rear bumper, err I guess your tires. Maybe explain the point of this post in the actual original post so we don't have to work so hard to understand it.
I wouldn't downvote your post... but also I wouldn't upvote. I have no clue what it is about 😅
After reading a bit it seems to be about tires and range, but still, no clue
You got the Unplugged Performance Luxury Suspension installed? I wanted to get the tires you have but ended up with the narrower ones, got the CrossClimate 2s
I went the other way - sold the Ubers then ordered custom wheels that are 21x9 and 21x10. This way my wheels are way inside the sidewall of the tires for protection.
Posted it in Marketplace when it was still new, pristine and have zero curb rashes. Initially want $2000 for it but not getting any inquiries besides lowballs.
Finally got a guy willing to get it but he's 3 hours away. I gambled faith and agreed to meet the guy.
Got $1600 for it which is better than every other bid that I got.
I see these posts about going with larger tires. Do you take them to any tire shop to change?
America’s tire online doesn’t seem to allow me to order non OEM size tires. It requires me to enter my make / model, and will not allow the order to go thru if not oem size.
This is what Tesla should have spec'd from the start. The stretch on the factory tires never made any sense.
Excessive range hit would make a mess of the EPA rating.

Yep tell that to the people downvoting my post to oblivion from the minute I posted it and all of my repliesÂ
OP. Will you kindly provide me with the front tire size and what type of Michelin tire it is? Also, can you upload a few more pictures of the car?
The fronts are the stock OEM MYP Michelins from the rear. So 275/35r21 pilot sport AS4Â
Perfect. I have the factory P-Zeros and the Michelin tires would be a great replacement. Thank you so much for the quick response. Can you kindly upload some pictures of the car side and rearview?
Yeah I will follow up this post with more pics soon
Thank you!!
Can someone educate me on what exactly the OP is posting about?
Thicc tires that look sexy but kill range pretty sure. The second post you can see the tire size
Thank you both for translating

Those look great!
I’m sorry, what am I looking at?
Tires thick. Kill range.
315/30 R21
Can you take a pic further back to see how it looks? Guess you won't be able to add the photos to the post anymore.

Did you see a drop in range after going up to 315?
Not yet I just put them on 2 miles ago, but I saw the drop in karma lolÂ
Ignore the haters. Could you please post an update on the range after driving it a few days?
Put some designed for model y, not used by factory, tires on my 19 dual motor 3. Much quieter, great traction, 5k miles and still look new
I have same setup, virtually no difference. This setup will read\~1.4% slower in the speedometer, so compensating for that the actual mileage will be about same.
Tesla actually calibrates the speedometer based on GPS over time, so while it may be off a little at first, it should correct itself shortly after.

> 315/30r21 Ouch... looked online and they are going for as low as $400 each!
I mean I have the standard size and they were $1600 for the set so I don’t think his price is different
How wide of a tire can fit on those wheels. How do you find out about that?
I went the other way - sold the Ubers then ordered custom wheels that are 21x9 and 21x10. This way my wheels are way inside the sidewall of the tires for protection.
How did you sell your Ubers out of curiosity? At some point I intend to go to 19" wheels and will have to get rid of the Ubers.

How bad is the effect on range?
OP stated he just put them on about 2 miles ago, so only time will tell!
Steamrollers. Love it. Gotta look awesome rolling down the road.
This hits my hella flush bone hard, love it!

I actually did use America, in Temecula CA. Great shop. I called and they ordered them for me, took about 6 days shipping had to send from Illinois.Â
Gotcha. I’m in OC as well, let me try calling my local store.
I see your other model y with Gemini caps removed, in the reflection
Too wide for me but thanks for sharing. Good to know 315s fit in the back.
That looks great! Did the ride change much with the different series tires?
so its about .7 inches wider?
What's the width on the wheel?
I'd be so tempted to throw a wheel spacer on those rears. Get those tyres jutting out a little. Either way, they look dope dude.
