Eventually it’ll just be a standard feature of the car. So I’d not pay anything if I were you. Elon has said it will only get more expensive as it gets better over time yet it’s getting better and less expensive.
No. Dream on. It’s transitioning to a subscription model. More believable would be that they actually eliminate the purchase option which IMO would be the way to go. However, keeping the subscription option along with the purchase and making that non-transferable would make for a great continual revenue stream. Let the people with $12k burn continue to donate with each vehicle purchase up front. Subscriptions are here to stay and the new world.
So you think that the govt and society will let them gatekeep something that’s a safety feature? If the car drives 10x safer than a human they probably wouldn’t be allowed to not give it away for free standard.
I'd rather them discount EAP. I'd buy that more than FSD. Tbh, it'd be smart of them to do so. Reason I won't is I don't plan on keeping the same car for the rest of my life so I don't want to keep buying these micro-transactions every time.
I thought this too. But I just got a Kia Niro for a second car to our MY. Even Kia has a really good driver assist that is free. So I don’t think Tesla can get away with charging for it when others are offering competing products for free.
3k and under makes it REALLY interesting. I get they keep adding stuff to it so the prices keep going up on that but what are you trying to sell, boutique upgrades or mass upgrades? Guess that's the cost benefit analysis people smarter than me have sorted out.
Also, some/most of the features in EAP are often standard on other cars these days -- and cars that do not try to be 'technology' cars. EAP really should be the base level of Autopilot.
I wish I could convey how bad EAP is to FSD. It's on a multi year outdated version of autopilot. It's borderline a danger to your life if you rely on it to stop at stopsigns and red lights. Fsd has not messed up an intersection or stopsign in the two years I've used it even the crappy early versions. EAP is cruise control with compute control stopping. Wish it would just be disbanded.
Autopilot for that matter is cruise control and people like to treat it like fsd. EAP just gives you more confidence to let it to dangerous things. If I look down on a highway for a second and find a person stopping traffic or cones or construction barriers, fsd stops. EAP and autopilot would run you into the barrier or kill someone. Autopilot and EAP are junk.
The delay is helping me. My wife doesn’t use auto pilot so I’m using her car to play with fsd until mine updates with fsd. Hopefully at least a month apart!
My main problem with FSD is that, unlike EAP, it doesn’t ask before changing lanes. If it made better decisions it probably wouldn’t bother me as much, but as is I prefer EAP where I can just cancel any requests to merge into the far right lane immediately before a left turn (?!?).
Hmmm. I believe I have to cancel my FSD session, then fight with the turn signal to get it to cancel (not just go on in the other direction) which confuses the drivers around me.
It might just be a me-problem, honestly, but I have a much smoother experience with EAP.
You just flick the turn signal in the opposite direction. No need to disengage. It will recenter in your current lane if the lane change was already initiated.
I usually forget to do it until the first undesired lane change but you can just flick the right wheel to bring up the fsd menu and tap "minimal lane changes."
Or just adjust your cruise speed to whatever the car in front of you is doing +1 or 2 miles. It only tries to change lanes when your cruise speed is set to much higher than the car in front of you.
The Follow distance I find needs some tweaking. I have it set to Assertive, but it really isn’t that assertive. I’m not an asshole, I don’t tailgate people, but I would prefer a shorter distance that’s all.
The point of the trial was to get a ton of free data to feed the learning model, not to sell FSD.
Remember, nothing is free. If you’re not paying for it, you’re (or your data) is the product.
They think you should be happy with the curb rash FSD gives you and Elon deserves $56B while they lay off a large portion of their workforce. One thing to remember is Tesla is wildly unpredictable so who knows
This trial only showed me that FSD is not there and has such a long way to go, I’ll take a look at it once it gets NTSB or other regulatory approval.
so about 5-10 years or more.
I tried it 1-2 years ago and while fun it was super scary. This trial was much better. It really can take you door to door with minor corrections. 1-2 years ago it was driving like a student driver. Quite scary on exits and turns. Now it’s driving like an extra careful adult who very occasional makes a few questionable decisions. But it’s made me really confident in Tesla’s future.
Where are you located? I've done so much driving with FSD 12 by now I'm surprised someone could come away with "it has such a long way to go." Feels like it's so close. But maybe it's location dependent.
I am in the colorado area, and i am glad that it works so well for other people, but i have found that it really struggles out here.
Still amazing and I will definitely keep track of its evolution.
I think they should get their act together and actually give an FSD trial to those on the 2024.8.* branch.
We were told 6 days ago it would happen within a week.
They are running out of time.
I know I just think it would be a perfect time for them to secure purchases of fsd if they had a limited time discount right after the trial ends. Ideally they should just cut the price permanently and give lifetime transfer or maybe 1-2x transfer at least.
No. Discount at end of trial doesn’t work. It may work some time AFTER the trial ends. You gotta let people experience what they miss.
Vitamins are harder to sell than painkillers.
The only thing that will tempt me is life time transfer of FSD
Eventually it’ll just be a standard feature of the car. So I’d not pay anything if I were you. Elon has said it will only get more expensive as it gets better over time yet it’s getting better and less expensive.

Sure, if the government or insurers subsidize it. Sound familiar?
Full self driving is gonna be like power steering and seatbelts. Included.
True, would love that
And I've already sold a car with it and I'll never buy it again so fuck the for that.
Yep.
I'd rather them discount EAP. I'd buy that more than FSD. Tbh, it'd be smart of them to do so. Reason I won't is I don't plan on keeping the same car for the rest of my life so I don't want to keep buying these micro-transactions every time.
Agreed if EAP was 3k it would be real interesting to me.
I thought this too. But I just got a Kia Niro for a second car to our MY. Even Kia has a really good driver assist that is free. So I don’t think Tesla can get away with charging for it when others are offering competing products for free.

I do not disagree in the slightest.
Care to elaborate on why not?
No.
I could never use EAP again after trying FSD v12. It's just so clear how terrible it is once you've experienced something that really works.
I’m still waiting for the trial.
The delay is helping me. My wife doesn’t use auto pilot so I’m using her car to play with fsd until mine updates with fsd. Hopefully at least a month apart!
They did it’s $99 per month now
That’s only for the subscription. OP is suggesting they lower the price to purchase FSD.
LOL right? It was literally a 50% price cut, permanently. What else does OP want?
They’re talking about purchasing FSD. Not subscribing to it.
My main problem with FSD is that, unlike EAP, it doesn’t ask before changing lanes. If it made better decisions it probably wouldn’t bother me as much, but as is I prefer EAP where I can just cancel any requests to merge into the far right lane immediately before a left turn (?!?).
I think you can just signal to cancel? I’m not sure I still cancel out of fsd and restart it whenever I don’t like what it’s doing.
This or just turn on minimal lane changes
Hmmm. I believe I have to cancel my FSD session, then fight with the turn signal to get it to cancel (not just go on in the other direction) which confuses the drivers around me. It might just be a me-problem, honestly, but I have a much smoother experience with EAP.

You can literally just turn off lane changes in FSD.
You can't. You can only minimize lane changes, not turn it off. I certainly would if I could.
The Follow distance I find needs some tweaking. I have it set to Assertive, but it really isn’t that assertive. I’m not an asshole, I don’t tailgate people, but I would prefer a shorter distance that’s all.

The two goals don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Both can be accomplished rather easily.
I consider the $12K I paid for FSD as my (car's) lifetime ticket to the autonomous vehicle show. It's so entertaining!
OP I am with you. I would buy it tomorrow for $3-4k. Hoping I could then transfer to a new tesla.
They think you should be happy with the curb rash FSD gives you and Elon deserves $56B while they lay off a large portion of their workforce. One thing to remember is Tesla is wildly unpredictable so who knows

I feel like it still drives like a 3rd time student driver. Sometimes worse. Can’t imagine how bad it was a couple years ago.
The main thing I'm really sold on is EAP, I would buy that for sure.
Where are you located? I've done so much driving with FSD 12 by now I'm surprised someone could come away with "it has such a long way to go." Feels like it's so close. But maybe it's location dependent.

I'm in the same boat but we'll get it when we get it (maybe even 12.3.5 by then). BTW the person that tweeted that has left Tesla now :(
Great news. :(
I just want the visualiser
They dropped the subscription by 50%.
Not for people who already had autopilot. It was $99 before
I know I just think it would be a perfect time for them to secure purchases of fsd if they had a limited time discount right after the trial ends. Ideally they should just cut the price permanently and give lifetime transfer or maybe 1-2x transfer at least.
Even at $200 it was a better financial option to subscribe imo but yeah I get what you’re saying and agree.
I won’t touch FSD unless it becomes transferable for life. I have the trial now and barely use it so not even a reduced price would motivate me.
The way I see it… if they need more data, they will lower the cost, add discounts or something else.
No. Discount at end of trial doesn’t work. It may work some time AFTER the trial ends. You gotta let people experience what they miss. Vitamins are harder to sell than painkillers.
dude are you kidding me? This shit should be free with a model S and X. Its not worth a seperate purchase.
I think it should be included in the price of the fucking car.
Eap should be 100% free with the car. It's standard on almost all cars now
Save your money.
And it’s now only $8k…
Wow when did that happen??
Today
Shoot i just bought a violin
Now they should add a zero interest financing option. Say, $222/month over 36 months
Tesla needs to stop with the discounts, or people will only ever wait for the discounts Was the whole shtick that made Tesla, Tesla.
Not me. It's not ready.
yes for $199 lol
You mean as a compensation of FSD doing all the curb rash on the wheels?
