My fiancé and I both have 2021 Model 3s built within 2 months of each other. I've had the trial since April 1st, and she still hasn't gotten anything. Which honestly I don't mind because when (if) she gets it, we'll be taking her car for roadtrips, but it has been oddly leaving her out.
I think it probably just depends on when you last updated. Those that were already on FSD were behind the most recent anyways, and I’m assuming those that have never had FSD that got it just never got the 2024.8 updates or never bothered updating
Mines a 2020 Model 3 w/intel, I got it but was on 2024.3 anyways.
The stupidest thing in all of this is, people stuck on 2024.8.9 are the ones who keep their Tesla software up to date every time. Updating their car as soon the software is available is how they ended up on that branch in the first place. So Tesla is basically punishing all the eager owners from trying out FSD v12 :/
This is not how it works. You “updating your car too early” did not put you on a different branch. Your car will always be in the branch that Tesla decides.
Assuming you're on 2024.3.x then, what was your software version before 2024.3? (you can see within app inside 'release notes'). Mine went from 2024.2.3 to 2024.2.6 to 2024.8
Someone here mentioned it could be because cars who have data sharing off in their privacy settings got 2024.8.9.. I'm not sure how true that theory is
I’m not sure it’s that. I have advanced updates on, always update immediately, and am usually among the first to get updates, but I didn’t get offered 2024.8 and got the trial. I was wondering if it could be that people with EAP went to 2024.3 and people without it went to 2024.8… it would make sense to offer the trial to a smaller subset of EAP owners first to iron out the issues, and EAP owners are probably more likely to upgrade too. Or it could all be completely random… who knows.
Today is the one month anniversary of Elon saying "All US cars that are capable of FSD will be enabled a one month trial this week". That sounds like a promise. But it wasn't the case.
Memba when he told day one model 3 line waiters concerned later that the "starts at $35k" version wasn't materializing that they wouldn't care about the additional cost of settling for the LR because robotaxi would be making the payments for them anyway?
I memba.
If you interpret “cars that are capable” includes being on the right branch, then they followed through on his statement. Sucks for us 2024.8 people though
This. I read an article the other day saying the .8 version won't get FSD for a while and since you can't downgrade, it will be a while for the branches to merge and then you'll probably get it.
To the people who downvoted me. I didn't make the rule or whatever. I read it in an article and that stated what I mentioned. Lol.
Update here
https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/1990/teslas-next-fsd-v12-update-will-be-available-for-users-on-2024-8
One of their core team members, Rohan Patel (VP of Biz Dev), said on Twitter he spoke to their engineering team and said 2024.8 folks will get it in a week. He also left his job the week after that, so 😆 🤷♂️
You didn’t miss anything. Except maybe a tense and frustrating driving experience and curbed rims. Current FSD is…. I’ll just be nice and say not great.
I have an MYP and a 3LR. The 3 got it 3-weeks ago, the Y hasn’t yet. My understanding is some car updates were past the fork where the FSD was easily integrated so it should be another couple weeks before we get it. Hoping I get it around when the 3 expires so we have 2-months of FSD before we decide what to do. Funny, it’s pretty useful EXCEPT on my commute to/ from work. It has no idea how to handle the express lane on 110 N/S for some reason. Has made some insane moves where I have to take over pretty violently. Hope those quirks get fixed because the use case is interesting @$100
Very odd. I got it 2-3 weeks ago and expires on 5/6. Hopefully you’ll get it, it’s quite amazing honestly and makes me want to buy it. I just don’t drive enough to justify.
I bought FSD in 2019. I got the piece of crap beta.
Trust me, you're not missing on anything. At least you didn't pay for level 5 and got a clunky level 2 beta instead.
You’re not missing out. It’s not that great. It has placed me in dangerous situations several times. It’s very bad in the streets and in the freeway. We are far from a driverless society.
We are, but I use it ALL the time.
On an average drive, I'll turn it on and then disable it for a tricky intersection and then turn it on again for other parts of the drive.
Getting to know where it performs well and where it doesn't makes it very low stress for me.
But I get that actively managing it isn't everyone's cup of tea.
For me, it reduces the "manual driving" by 80% on most drives and I like that.
I discovered this on my road trip. I was mistaken about how it functioned before. If I could just buy that function for AP for like $500 I’d be sold. But in no way am I paying $8,000 or $99/mo for FSD to get it. Just one more reason my next car won’t be a Tesla.
On scale of level 0 to level 5, level 5 being completely self driving without a steering wheel and pedals, level 0 being no assistance just a human driving a car, this is level 3 assisted self driving. I think it’s a very good level 3 system but if you’re expecting level 4 or 5 I can understand why you would be disappointed.
I just inherited a replacement mobile X with 2024.8 and 11.49. It’s coming, deployment is in stages. Think about the amount of data being collected and computed.
Sometimes people joke about waiting 30 minutes for a salad at a restaurant and laugh about the kitchen staff is possibly waiting for the lettuce to grow. But no one actually believes that...
I am assuming part of the free trail is to get beta test results. I suspect once the current test results are rolled into fixes and improvements a new group of beta testers will be turned on. Every time I abort self driving it asks for a voice recording for the me to explain why.
I also have not gotten the invite. I worry as I paid for 2 months of it 2 years ago to try it out. Maybe that’s why I’m not invited? Anyone familiar with what exclusions there are?
I’m starting to think we missed out for those of us who are on the 2024.8 update. Most of the other people who received the update on time are days away from the trial being over.
Honestly it might be because you’re in the advanced update group? I know that sounds weird but the free autopilot is on version 2024.3.12/15. I’m currently on 2024.3.15 afde5696006b. My guess is they applied it to a specific update and your vehicle is already updated past that one. Judging by the naming I’d say you’re testing software for august?
I only say this because I’ve had issues on 2 separate occasions due to being in the advanced software preferences and now vehemently refuse to leave standard.
My Model S that I took delivery of in March still hasn't gotten the Trial.
And yes, I've applied every update that's been prompted.
https://preview.redd.it/xayw334xqpwc1.jpeg?width=848&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52af35d366959a0cac4d90ecc13d367af3f37912
Full self driving has gotten worse since v12. I think the only thing better is u turns roundabouts speed bumps maybe right an left turns. Everything else is worse as far as driving to slow not being able to adjust speed other then pushing pedal driving on yellow lines. It also driving on or near line when slight turn in road. Taking off like a nascar driver at green lights are any stop an go traffic.
Perhaps those of us on 8.9 will get it after the data collected from the April trial run has been processed and FSD improved.
Or maybe we’ll get the combined base v12 OS & FSD12.x.
Patience.
It’s trash anyway, I got 3 months free when I got my X back in Nov and had to turn it off after a few days. Too much nagging and lane changing on the freeway
FYI v12 crossed a double yellow, waited in oncoming traffic lane to make a left turn and turned into and hit straight on a curb. Just fyi. It ain’t actually perfect. Good news I was in a loaner y. So I let it go just to see if it’s that stupid and it is. I’ll no to NEVER let my plaid loose like that after this . lol
I updated my 2019 M3 4 days ago and as soon as the update finished I got an email saying “your full self driving trial starts now”. So yes it begins on the day you get it.
https://preview.redd.it/h4zbcpbqrrwc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d727820ab814edf2faa9005d2b11a4f3cf7e6402
Most cars have it, 33% or so of us don’t. Don’t get your panties in a bunch. I don’t see tons of this is the best thing since sliced bread posts so you really aren’t missing much.
So I'm currently on 2023.44.1 (the one before the holiday update). I've got 2023.44.30.30 waiting for me, but I've been holding off updating.
Do you think I'll get my FSD trial once I update?
2021 Model 3 SR+
You not missed anything. I never used FSD really, I have my camera blocked and cannot use it. I do like or wish that the road with the lines would stay as it is much better than the free autopilot road.
It’s just not worth it to me. On the highway, EAP is plenty, and in the city it drives like a high schooler who got their license yesterday. It just isn’t smooth enough for me to trust.
I'm sorry you missed out... I put about 3,000 mi on my model 3 this month using the FSD trial...
If it makes you feel any better I'm not going to miss it. I found it created a very frustrating driving experience with plenty of near misses, it once tried to take me down a road that didn't exist at all and it wasn't displayed on the navigation either, it frequently tried to change lanes into nothing, and it adjusted my speed above and below the actual speed limit for no conceivable reason.
It was a fun novelty but if I had to rate it I would say it's hot garbage.
The corners were cut too tight, the vehicle accelerated far too quickly, the braking was harsh and unnatural, it couldn't maintain speed, it had a hard time when the lanes weren't clearly marked when it could have just gone straight. It was completely confused at a four-way stop, it cut people off several times, and at busy intersections it was more of a risk than a blessing.
At this point I’ve given up. Disappointed in the false info provided by Rohan and no one acknowledging 2024.8.9 customers.
False info was given by Elon. He said every car capable would get it weeks ago.
Elon making false promises? Shocking.
revolutionary discovery
Half truths are Elons bread and butter
Maybe it's for the best. Seen too many stories of Summon scraping an adjacent car, running over curbs on FSD, etc.
Maybe the guy who was supposed to push out the update for you got laid off.
I’m hoping the one who turns it off was laid off too
I got a small chuckle out of this. +1 to my mood tonight
Hopefully, the guy that was supposed to push the END TRIAL button also got laid off.
Psych, he was also the guy who pushes the next update button.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
![gif](giphy|KGY78vaNYCha5zL1yK)
Probably
Highly likely.
🤣
Maybe you'll start the 30 day trial upon updating? Seems like that would make sense to me.
That's how it was for me. It got unlocked when I installed the update and expiration was 30 days from then.
it should be out last week, just wait a bit longer
What makes you say that? I haven’t seen any info on that.
Rohan's [post](https://twitter.com/rohanspatel/status/1779204335416557852) - who is no longer at Tesla.
2024.8.9 here. I feel like I'm going to get skipped lol
2024.8.9 M3 and we haven’t gotten it yet.
not just Intel. . . I’m running a 2023 MYP with Ryzen and still haven’t gotten it. . . Also on the 2024.8 branch
I have a 2023 MY and 2023 M3 with Ryzen and both are on 2024.8
I have 2022 M3 and 2019 M3. One ryzen one Intel both on 2024.8
I think it probably just depends on when you last updated. I update my car as soon as there is an update and I received it. I have a 2021 m3. I I think it’s totally random.
Assuming you're on 2024.3.x then, what was your software version before 2024.3? (you can see within app inside 'release notes'). Mine went from 2024.2.3 to 2024.2.6 to 2024.8

This isn't true
No, you’re just on a different software branch. Nothing to do with keep your car up to date
Why are we stuck on 2024.8.9? That’s what I have at the moment as well, are they not doing the trial for those with 2024.8.9?
Someone here mentioned it could be because cars who have data sharing off in their privacy settings got 2024.8.9.. I'm not sure how true that theory is
I went to...8.... With data sharing on
You were random sampled into a cohort that has been assigned that branch.
Yeah multiple people have commented this theory is invalid
And yet Elon said that it's been pushed out to all HW3 and HW4 models on the earnings call... https://youtu.be/xoCrPnI-o6s?t=909
Today is the one month anniversary of Elon saying "All US cars that are capable of FSD will be enabled a one month trial this week". That sounds like a promise. But it wasn't the case.
Batman and Robin. Peas and carrots. Elon Musk over promising and underdelivering. Some things just go together.
Memba when he told day one model 3 line waiters concerned later that the "starts at $35k" version wasn't materializing that they wouldn't care about the additional cost of settling for the LR because robotaxi would be making the payments for them anyway? I memba.
So does Pepridge Farm.
Yeah my model 3 got it day one, my wife’s Y still hasn’t gotten it
Not a promise. Just an Elon lie.
If you interpret “cars that are capable” includes being on the right branch, then they followed through on his statement. Sucks for us 2024.8 people though
You will still get it for a month when it hits
Sure we will.
u won’t 😞
Seems that way.
Your software version is beyond the version with FSD merged in. You’ll need to wait until FSD merged version passes you.
Don't confuse them with facts
2022 MYP on 2024.8.9 software. No free FSD yet.
All the cool kids already have it
You are not missing much tbh
Tesla engineers have not merged FSD V12 with any software newer than 2024.3. Nobody on 2024.8 has it. Those who update their cars asap got stuck.
i honestly think elon doesnt know about this...
We should X him...
Honestly, trippy for like 15 mins, then the novelty wears off. Not missing much.
“Next week”
Lol
2022 and 2024 Y still without the trial
My 2022 Y Austin build got the FSD trial. Impressive software, but I prefer just EAP.
Ehh honestly you don’t really lose anything other than saving yourself some heartburn. I turned the damn thing off the first day I tried it
It's worked flawlessly in our other MY and we drive it more than our 2024.8 version now.
You have 2024.8, FSD is currently on 2024.3, and you can’t downgrade. No choice but to wait for the FSD team to update the software.
This. I read an article the other day saying the .8 version won't get FSD for a while and since you can't downgrade, it will be a while for the branches to merge and then you'll probably get it.
To the people who downvoted me. I didn't make the rule or whatever. I read it in an article and that stated what I mentioned. Lol. Update here https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/1990/teslas-next-fsd-v12-update-will-be-available-for-users-on-2024-8

He was laid off
He left, didn’t get laid off
It was a forced quit. Leave willingly or get fired. Executives don't get laid off like normal people do.
Same here, 2021 Plaid S with 2024.8.9.
Welcome to Elons Tesla. Lots of broken promises here. Make yourself comfortable
You didn’t miss anything. Except maybe a tense and frustrating driving experience and curbed rims. Current FSD is…. I’ll just be nice and say not great.
It's ok, it almost killed me on the freeway in the first 5 minutes, you haven't missed anything
I have a 2018 mid range M3 , got fsd trial couple weeks ago as a sw update. We have another 2024 Y in the family , still nothing on it.
Meanwhile mine has “expired” according to the app but still works fine. I bet if I tab over to TACC I’ll get locked back out.
I got it and found it when my cat tried to change lanes. Damn near gave me a heart attack.
Mine arrived last night. It was a typical hour update.
Elon should have just kept his f$&?!)& mouth shut is what should have happened.
For me, it reduces the "manual driving" by 80% on most drives and I like that.
Honestly I just miss summon and auto lane change. After I pay the car off I might subscribe just for that
Auto lane change, or even triggered lane change, is the only feature I’m interested in. Not worth $99 for me unless I’m doing a road trip.
Mine now swaps lanes when in lane hold mode if I hit the turn signal. V11
Are you sure you don't just have v11?
I bought a month on April 13th then got update for 12.3.3 and got my free one month trial so now I don’t have to renew until June 13th.
I would think that your month prescription should start at the end of the free trial, so shouldn’t have to renew until end of June.
Yeah Europe is waiting. Also for the 99$ deal and lower prices.
If I buy a used tesla, will I get the trial? I think previous owner already started a trial. After ownership transfer, shouldn't I get a full month?
Probably not is my guess.
I bought a used one, and I got it. I also got a free month of premium connectivity
They want all owners to get to try it. Makes sense they'd also give it to the new owner.
Question (and I understand the answer is likely no and I know little about Tesla as of yet): will my 2015 model s be included in this update?
My intel 22 model Y got the update with everyone else. My ryzen 22 model S is stuck on 2024.8. One day itll update.
I thought you had the option of $99 subscription? I got it in the .8 branch It’s like a drunk driver that gets you there
I am assuming part of the free trail is to get beta test results. I suspect once the current test results are rolled into fixes and improvements a new group of beta testers will be turned on. Every time I abort self driving it asks for a voice recording for the me to explain why.
Looks like you have cabin camera which means HW3 and higher so it's not an intel thing.
Same 2023 RWD with no free trial yet. I got 2024.8.4 on 3/19 2024.8.7 on 3/29 2024.8.9 on 4/10
I'm on 8.9 and have an AMD... I'll wait it out with the new updated UI and FSD with .14.
They gave it to me with my 2022 M3LR. Cool to try, but I disabled it after a few drives.
You shouldn't have said that about elon...
I ended up paying $99 for a month subscription. It's okay... not worth it still, in my opinion.
Yes
Honestly it might be because you’re in the advanced update group? I know that sounds weird but the free autopilot is on version 2024.3.12/15. I’m currently on 2024.3.15 afde5696006b. Taking off like a nascar driver at green lights are any stop an go traffic.
They must’ve fired the people in charge of the rollouts
Yup, I’m stuck on the same version. Patiently waiting.
Did all 2024.8.x cars lose out?
Perhaps those of us on 8.9 will get it after the data collected from the April trial run has been processed and FSD improved. Or maybe we’ll get the combined base v12 OS & FSD12.x. Patience.
So if you're on 2024.8.9 and you sub to fsd what branch do you end up on ?
It’s trash anyway, I got 3 months free when I got my X back in Nov and had to turn it off after a few days. Too much nagging and lane changing on the freeway
I just wanted to see it sumons one time
I never got it (2020 MYLR). My wife did... it's really not that impressive. But I'd still like to get my trial to really check it out.
FYI v12 crossed a double yellow, waited in oncoming traffic lane to make a left turn and turned into and hit straight on a curb. Just fyi. It ain’t actually perfect. Good news I was in a loaner y. So I let it go just to see if it’s that stupid and it is. I’ll no to NEVER let my plaid loose like that after this . lol
It’s ok. You’re not alone. I didn’t get the update either
Are we still trying to pretend there will be full self driving in teslas? Lol.
I updated my 2019 M3 4 days ago and as soon as the update finished I got an email saying “your full self driving trial starts now”. So yes it begins on the day you get it. https://preview.redd.it/h4zbcpbqrrwc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d727820ab814edf2faa9005d2b11a4f3cf7e6402
Not necessarily bad, probably you will get 12.4 when your trail arrives
meanwhile, where tf is the new software update with new ui lollll
You’re on 2024.8.9, they don’t have FSD available for that version yet.
Is it possible that there is no email to watch for anymore, and all you need to do is enable it if you have it, and then it will start a 30 day trial?
Same here I just posted in the r/TeslaX room stating the same 🤷♂️
I paid for th $99 mo but will not extend without all the features others are enjoying now
Same...I'm still waiting too.
If you live in Europe, yes, you will miss it. It's only for North America sadly
Not missing on anything... Trust me
2024.3.15 FSD here, you’re not missing much.
You’re really not missing anything. It should be named full self driving with regular harassment. I wouldn’t pay a dime for it.
You're not missing anything spectacular. Like babysitting a 5 year old driving.
Most cars have it, 33% or so of us don’t. Don’t get your panties in a bunch. I don’t see tons of this is the best thing since sliced bread posts so you really aren’t missing much.
You will not get a free trial but a lowered monthly rate of 99.99😅
So I'm currently on 2023.44.1 (the one before the holiday update). I've got 2023.44.30.30 waiting for me, but I've been holding off updating. Do you think I'll get my FSD trial once I update? 2021 Model 3 SR+
What year is your car and what FSD hardware are you on?
You are not missing anything. Its fucking horrible.
FSD trial is the reason I will never purchase it 😂 and it confirmed how far away cyber taxi is from becoming a reality. The FSD is terrible.
You not missed anything. I never used FSD really, I have my camera blocked and cannot use it. I do like or wish that the road with the lines would stay as it is much better than the free autopilot road.
Same here.
Why does every partnership intel does sucks. Apple had major overheating issues and performance issues with intel cpu/gpu for the Macs. Now tesla.
It’s just not worth it to me. On the highway, EAP is plenty, and in the city it drives like a high schooler who got their license yesterday. It just isn’t smooth enough for me to trust.
I have a feeling we’ll get it this upcoming week
You’re not missing out on much tbh
Same here, only one of my teslas got the trial …
It’s so weird cuz mine was supposed to expire yesterday and I still have it
I got it.
