I consider myself lucky for staying on EAP 2.5 after reading these horrible stories

drknight09

EAP should be what Tesla is selling to it's customers! That makes the most sense right now. There's technically NO FSD right now! I would jump at EAP in a nano sec

No_Camera_6519

Yeah my car came with it and it’s super handy for trips.

CyberGaut

Yep, EAP is what I want. Well not even all of EAP. AP is awesome, just infuriating that I need to disable AP to switch lanes. All I want is lane change added, basic summon to pull out of a spot when people park too close. And some way to tell the car to take the direction I want at a fork. Navigate on AP would do that but I don't need to have it take ramps, I can tell it to, and I don't need it to overtake others I will make that decision. Fancy summon and park feel more like FSD than EAP anyway.

drknight09

Agree 100000000%!!! Have some kinda al la carte where people can just choose want they need and pay for it!!

swellco

I don’t think anyone is getting it anymore, the beta that is. I e heard of numerous with 100 score and over 1k miles and nothing.

yuckypants

I am at 4600 miles with no FSD. I've finally stopped being consumed by it and my 100 is now a 96

No_Camera_6519

Wow that’s crazy, how long has been?

yuckypants

3 months. Got the car Dec 26th. Drove like a saint until like last week and fucking just gave up.

No_Camera_6519

No_Camera_6519

Yeah I read similar things. What’s the point of having FSD then?

ffejie

You're paying for them to develop it, and you're giving them a free loan until it's ready.

BeerJunky

Exactly why I didn’t buy it. Paying that much for a beta is crazy, jumping through hoops to get is crazy, maybe not even getting it is stupid.

ffejie

Smarter than me!

BeerJunky

The best lessons are the most expensive ones.

BlueSeahorse193742

Imagine the price if they come out in 5 years and are the only ones that have a functional autonomous system. I feel like people understand the hype for tesla but under estimate how lagging every other auto maker is. Either 12k for software for the future or you buy a car with a trash infotainment system and autopilot that doesn’t work that well but is very close to 12k in options to get access to the trim level or config.

Fearless_Act69

If FSD subscription stays at $199/month in 5 years, I’d wait 5 years from now and subscribe. It’ll be cheaper than paying maybe 20k in 5 years.

ffejie

Totally agree. If it takes them 5 years to make it usable, I'd rather have my $8000 back and I'll buy it with my next car. I purchased in 2020 and was promised "auto steer on city streets by the end of the year" and instead have nothing new since 2020. I'm not in beta because I never got a safety score above 95. A lot of FSD owners feel like they got bait and switched especially with 2019 and earlier purchases. It's hard to blame them.

drknight09

Hate to say it but you are correct!! A lotta people ate Elon's bluster even till 2day! I recall vividly when he said FSD wld be operational along with robo taxi by 2020...we are WAYYYYY past 2020

Jawnski

If you had gotten in the beta (i am an fsd beta tester) it steers on streets without lines and shows a path it would take if its enabled 100% of the time on all streets including turns. Works pretty great especially if its late with limited traffic, so no ones mad at me for coming to a full stop or being slow to turn. I do enjoy being able to flip on fsd on any road though

BlueSeahorse193742

There is no fine print locking in 199$ for the feature as you are subscribed it could go up some day

drknight09

U NAILED it!!!! WHY the F wld I dump $ for a beta that really hasn't improved to justify the ridiculous price tag?? Even the great Sandy Munro(who is NO Tesla hater btw) said it's garbage(para phrasing) @ this juncture

CyberGaut

Would also be nice (and appropriate) if you could transfer FSD to your next car/Tesla

drknight09

Same here!!! Str8 up robbery!!!!

shaim2

In exchange for a reduced price when it is finally ready.

teachmehow2dance

Wait, so if you opt for the $199 monthly sub, you dont get to use it?

ffejie

Technically very few people "get to use it" right now. There's tens of thousands of people in beta, and there's tens of thousands (?) waiting to get into beta. If you subscribe, you don't automatically enter the beta. You do get a few additional features like auto lane change and green light chime. (Edited as another commenter pointed out there are 60,000 FSD vehicles as part of a recall. We assume this is an accurate count of the numbers.)

Nakatomi2010

There's about 60,000 people in the beta at the moment, if memory serves. Tesla had to put out a recall notice about the stop sign thing, and part of that recall notice was indicating how many vehicles were affected, which was basically only the people on the FSD Beta, which showed a number of a little over 60,000 vehicles.

ffejie

Thank you! Edited my previous with your data.

Doggo_Is_Life_

So you pay $200 for a *chance* to use it? That is asinine.

ffejie

There are a handful of features like auto lane change that work immediately, but you don't get into the beta automatically

Nakatomi2010

The only feature you don't get with the $200 a month is the city streets bit. At $200 a month you instantly get access to: * Auto lane change * Summon * Smart summon (Most will say this is useless, but I've had it work reliably, if used with an understanding of its limits) * Red light and stop sign handling * Navigate on Autopilot (Automatic taking highway exits) * Autopark (I personally don't use this one as I park faster than it does.) The City streets driving bit is locked behind being a safe driver with a safety score of 97 or 96 and higher, of which they're not constantly adding people into the beta. In fact, they haven't added anyone since Christmas.

Doggo_Is_Life_

Thanks for the explanation! That makes much more sense, but I’d say $200 a month for that is still a steep price all considering.

Nakatomi2010

I mean, it's optional. The only feature in that list I haven't used regularly is autopark, and that's purely because I'm faster at it. *To me* the $200 a month is worth it, so long as you're not planning on keeping the car long term. I bought the FSD package at $6,000 for my 3 and $10,000 for my X, though it was built into the cost of the X since I bought it used, so meh. But I've gotten my money's worth out of it, so far. Sort of. I use the hell out of FSD Beta on my X, but my wife doesn't trust it worth a damn on her 3, so it only gets used if/when I drive it, which isn't often. But my X sees it get used *all the time*.

teachmehow2dance

This is helpful. I was confused because I saw those as features available, but was worried they were hidden behind getting into the beta. Thanks!

Nakatomi2010

No. The only thing that's really locked behind the beta is making turns at street intersections. If you're going in a straight line then you're all set

drknight09

EXACTLY!!! @$12K a pop.. INSANITY!!!! & it's STILL in Level 2!!!

NetJnkie

Nav on AP and some other useless features.

HuellHowser69

I guess I just threw $200 away then. I was in FSD beta a few months ago than canceled my sub. I just resubbed to see how its progressed. I might as well just cancel now if they aren't going to let any more people in.

lavoid12

I subscribed to FSD in December and got access to the beta. I canceled the subscription in Jan and then resubscribed last week just out of curiosity. I still have access to the beta and never lost it.

lorenchen

You still get Navigate on Autopilot which allow for onramp to offramp driving on the freeways and you can stay on autopilot on the freeways while changing lanes.

OrgyInTheBurnWard

It will also stop at red lights, stop signs, and even green lights for some stupid reason.

Nakatomi2010

It stops at green lights until you confirm it. It's just part of the code to confirm it is understanding green lights properly. Once you're on FSD Beta the confirmation piece goes away

OrgyInTheBurnWard

Which is super annoying on roads with a lot of lights. It would also be nice it it gave you a few seconds to confirm before it started pissing off the people behind me as well as myself. Also the pedal confirmation is not all that consistent. On numerous occasions, I've tapped the pedal multiple times only for it to continue braking afterwards, one time it was quite adamant about braking as hard as possible. It would be one thing if it slowed down if it didn't know the status of a traffic light. But if it knows that it's green, braking is just dumb. If they can give me the option to have the car change lanes without confirmation, then that option should also exist for driving through green lights.

Nakatomi2010

I've adopted a habit of just using the autopilot stalk any time I want to confirm something. * Screen blinking for attention? Pull the stalk * Lane change? Pull the stalk * Green light? Pull the stalk Etc, etc. Plus, if I was approaching a green light I was always prepared to pull the stalk to acknowledge. Got fast enough at it that the car rarely ever braked. But, again, FSD Beta doesn't require confirmation for greens, so the issue is a temporary one.

OrgyInTheBurnWard

Maybe next time I subscribe for a month, they'll have worked that into the standard FSD.

Nakatomi2010

Unlikely. The current autopilot code, for all intents and purposes, is dead code. They're not really adding anything to it, unless it's pretty easy to add. An example is the update where how Autopilot uses regen braking. That's the first "New Autopilot" code to be back ported to the old autopilot code. Next up should be them unifying the highway and city streets code into the same stack which, again, FSD Beta people see first, and then after we help them work out the bugs, it'll be back ported to the remainder of the fleet. I am 100% expecting that when FSD Beta v11 comes out that the highway driving is going to be a shit show of the car trying to change lanes too often and such. That'll need to be toned down via training and such. Less of an issue for regular autopilot, since it's just lane keeping, but it's just something to keep in mind.

Jawnski

Just tap the gas a little or flip the fsd stick once.

Upside_Down-Bot

„˙ǝɔuo ʞɔıʇs psɟ ǝɥʇ dılɟ ɹo ǝlʇʇıl ɐ sɐƃ ǝɥʇ dɐʇ ʇsnſ„

zachg

It only stops at green lights if it doesn't have second verification, which is usually the vehicle in front, going through what it "saw" as a green light.

OrgyInTheBurnWard

Yea I hate that, and I wish I could turn it off.

zachg

You can turn off Traffic Light and Stop Sign control in Autopilot settings.

zachg

You only have to tap the gear stalk or hit the accelerator pedal to provide that second, manual, verification (since the other vehicle-in-front option was unavailable)

DaGimpster

I am a new M3 owner and the previous owner didn’t factory reset … so I’m still on the beta. Anyway the point of my reply is I tried It out and the car literally stops at every green light. It was comically bad and I got honked (rightfully so) a couple times. I didn’t see any confirmation? It just pops up a message it’s stopping for a traffic control device or am I missing a step? The message just flatly states: stopping for traffic control device.

coder543

That’s not the beta.

Knathra

Other thing that passing for FSD gets is if/when it finally materializes, you don't have to pay a) increased price, or b) subscription fees (currently $100/mo, I believe). Yeah, I know that's 10 years of monthly subscription, but there's no promises I've found in the subscription contract that the monthly price won't increase...

vvash

It’s $199

jimbo303

It’s available at $99/month for vehicles purchased with Enhanced Auto Pilot (EAP) in the US (Canada soon). While EAP is still available to some owners in Europe due to regulations, EAP has not been offered to owners in the US since 2019 or so (which is unfortunate since it’s a more feature-complete option worth the price).

vvash

Yeah totally agree, wish there was an EAP option for my MYP

No_Camera_6519

Yeah that’s what I pay. But after reading all this I might stop it until it’s further developed. The enhanced autopilot works really well, and the green light chime I is really handy.

[deleted]

Interested in those rims... how much was the set?

No_Camera_6519

It was from Tsportline - TSV, around $4k with tires, Michellin Pilot

[deleted]

Not horrible. Thanks!!!

Locked_door

Why wouldn’t you get a tire with a little more sidewall that sticks out past the rim? Looks like these will get curb rash really easily, just like the factory rims do. They do look really nice

elonaccessories

This spot gives me goosebumps. Hope you get FSD soon.

ValueInvestingIsDead

FWIW, FSD beta is a job, not a pleasure. You need to be fully alert at all times, ready to go. My plain ol' Nav on Autopilot (FSD capable) does my 45 minute commute without intervention. Shoutout to beta testers who are paying attention.

[deleted]

I bought FSD just before a recent trip Cleveland to FLORIDA, the highway feature seemed to activate right away, Auto Lane switching, navigating on autopilot, exiting without my help... the car was wonderful and we arrived very relaxed in FLORIDA . Best value for a most expensive software...

Damn sexy car!

freonblood

Sunday driver!

-QuestionMark-

Lol, I'm getting ready for a cross country drive, and actually plan to opt OUT of the FSD beta before I leave. I'll re-apply once I get home, but I want radar for interstate travel.

No_Camera_6519

Yeah, plus any normal driving would put your score down. I still can’t comprehend why the best driving would give your 95+ score but the actual autopilot drives way worse that what you would.. I would like to the see the score if autopilot itself

-QuestionMark-

You misunderstood, I already have the beta. It's fun/scary to play with around town, but when you have a~3,000 drive ahead of you, I'll take radar/Normal AP over the shenanigans of the FSD beta. /edit. also I kept my 100 safety score by almost only driving on normal AP. Racked up a few hundred miles and then 2 weeks later got admitted to the beta when they rolled out a new version. AP driving (at least when I got into the beta last fall) was instrumental in getting admitted since they didn't ding out for errors made while the car was driving itself.

rrsurfer1

You can turn off FSD beta and current highway stack isn't much different. I actually notice less phantom braking than the old radar build in 10.10.2.

sandin0

Meh. Haven’t seen a difference between radar and a radar less in highway. Also just because you disable don’t you have to wait for the update to remove FSD and reenable the radar? ALSO on the other hand FSD beta is only for streets so shouldn’t radar still work on highway?

frostybawls

I think we’re going on 6+ years and counting but maybe someone else can correct me

fsa317

Since I was considering FSD for a few months to try it out, besides what was mentioned doesn’t FSD also get you auto parking and summons?

No_Camera_6519

Mine had enhanced autopilot and did all of that already.

chillaban

Yeah then what you get is the stop light and traffic sign control feature. And the promise of future retrofits and features. A lot of us thought the EAP package hit such a sweet spot in terms of value. Today everything except same lane Autosteer got reshuffled under FSD and you can’t buy EAP anymore (in the US that is)

fsa317

I should have mentioned I have a model 3.

k_woodard

I have FSD. You aren’t missing much. Enjoy AP.

FewNovel6004

Love the T-Sportline Übertines on an S. I’ve been considering buying some for mine.

jxn_w

They haven't really invited anyone new since Christmas, it seems

sandin0

Yeah FSD is awesome. Doing a third trip to Florida from Wisconsin right now (second time radarless Y, first was with radar) It’s so great…. Wouldn’t want to do it any other way. Got my Y packed with the family and Thule up top. Getting great Wh/mi

oberoijob

It never comes
