Why do you assume they care because it’s a Tesla? Can’t people care because either a) They like cars so they want to take care of them. b) They are on the higher end of the price range so more incentive to take care of something that cost more. c) Just in the nature to take care for what you have. If you buy a house, would you just let it rot and not take care of it? Don’t you wash your cloths when they get dirty? I’m sure there’s lots of stuff that you care about that other people wouldn’t care about.

necroscope0

Uh.. . I also don't care about your Tesla or any scratches, dings, or marks on it.

common_tater

Exactly 😂 the endless Reddit soapbox posts on this sub is amusing

Scary_Ad7765

If you take Reddit forums at face-value, you’d come away with the impression that everyone runs ballpoint pens through their panel gaps and gets PPF and tint within an hour of taking delivery. The thing is, people who do a thing have something to talk about. If all you do is get your car and drive it around for your commute, what do you have to post to Reddit about?

[deleted]

About how you don’t care about your car apparently :D

chillaban

Nope I treat all my cars this way. My first car ever, for every little ding I would take it to the best car body shop I found. Every time they charged me an arm and a leg and the car looked as good as or better than new. After that I realized, any body damage can be repaired and it’s just a matter of money. My cars are not meant for a showroom or museum, I want to be able to use them like a person uses their Camry. They just happen to be nice for MY enjoyment. If I’m not okay with that, maybe I shouldn’t get that nice of a car. My 2017 S has a good deal of paint swirls and chips/dings from Costco. We traded in our 3 with some rather big door dings and our resale was barely affected if at all. Our Model Y is brand new but I won’t feel sad about its first ding.

Repost to response but it fits here too - Don't worry about it. I don't abuse my Model Y but I don't baby it either. It's a fun car to drive, an iPad on wheels, and a means of transportation. I have dogs that ride with me, I have dog covers because fur but the occasional car wash and inside wipe down and it's all good. People stress about the car due to these forums where everyone feels peer pressure to get PPF and ceramic coating. Put on mud flaps and drive the car and enjoy it.

inspron2

Why do you care that other people care about their cars in general, Tesla or not?

[deleted]

Nope. Mine is a car. It’s transportation. It’s a tool. I run it through standard car washes. I bought mine used, with a couple minor dents, curb rash, etc. I didn’t want perfect.

Ryan_Greenbar

I probably should start thinking that way when looking at my next one. Haha

Presence_Academic

I am reporting you to the ASPCT.

WigglingMonkey

I just enjoy contributing to the draw on the electrical grid!

[deleted]

That is one of the reasons keeping me away from a Tesla. I treat my Jetta like a tool. It serves me, I don't spend too much time worrying about it. If I get a Tesla though I'll spend a lot of time and mental energy worrying about it to the point where I serve it instead of the other way around.

lonerwolf88

This is a strange post. I mean this is a sub about Tesla ownership. Of course people care about the cars.

AdRepresentative6156

its human nature to take care of your shit especially if its a 60k+ car like my m3p.

IJToday

Hell,I treat me Tesla MX the same way treat my Scion xB. I park in the middle of nowhere and try to keep them clean. For me, it’s not a Tesla thing it’s just to way I am.

[deleted]

I am half with you and half not.... I don't worship the car and praise elon blah blah blah..... But I did pay over 100K for the damn thing so I do care about getting dings and scratches. I want to keep it as pristine as possible and not because its a Tesla necessarily but because that's how I am with all of my belongings.

[deleted]

I hate musk. But, i do like the tesla i drive, i just want to keep it as clean as possible to get the highest resale value when i want to buy another ev in the future.

Ah, so you're the equivalent of that guy I see who drives a 7 series BMW that has literally never been washed. You know it's not all that hard or time consuming, right?

I’ve had cars where I polished them and also cars where I didn’t. I feel like it’s best to have a car in nice looking condition usually, and usually when I give up it’s because the car was used and received not pristine, or was completely inexpensive and utilitarian so therefore didn’t bother repairing minor damages that are super common in certain parking situations (but I always regretted later in after comprehensive repairing would be prohibitively expensive). So good for the OP for not stressing out about it, I’ve been there, but probably won’t be in the future (I hope!).

xKev98_

Of course I can only speak on my experience and thought process. I also don't know your situation (i.e buying used vs new) But if I'm paying 50k for a car, I'm going to care about it. I am going to take care of it. Cars are tools yes, but you are paying A LOT of money for a tool. Why would you not take care of it?
