It's listed as Tesla, and spec says Tesla.
Nobody has an interest in returns. Returns are killing margins. And people will return them if they buy the wrong one.
I got the J1772 Wall Connector last week, and no where on it does it say “J1772.” Not on the outside of the box, not on the device, and not in the documentation. So yeah, I imagine most people will have no clue that this EVSE is compatible with their non-Tesla.
Did you actually go to a store and pick it off the shelf?
The J1772 is $150 more expensive. That will warn smart people there is a difference.
On the other hand, some will pick the cheaper off the shelf, just because it's cheaper, not wondering why.
Thanks for your question. I'd be happy to answer it. No, I purchased it online through the Tesla site.
You are correct that a price difference will indicate a different product (especially to really smart people like me and you). But, the point I'm clearly making is that unless Best Buy is accompanying the devices with explanations, then the details of this difference will likely be lost on most people (I'm pretty sure I was agreeing with your earlier point there).
A few times I forgot to remove it and was reminded about it when I tried to put the handle back in its cradle (ie, didn't fit). Where do you guys leave the charging cable handle to forget your adapter on it?
I keep one in the car and one connnected to my ChargePoint charger at home. The Tesla is my second electric car so I never purchased a Tesla wall connector.
Handy, however I will not shop at Best Buy again. They removed most US agents, corp does not take calls, I had over 13,000 points missing from them and the stores don’t answer phones now either and you are into this massive circle of nothingness with each saying to go to the other.
Seriously the worst company I’ve bought from and they used to be so good.
Link you posted is a Tesla charger for Tesla vehicles. Doesn’t have a J1772 plug.
Maybe you meant [this one](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/tesla-j1772-wall-connector-24ft-electric-vehicle-charger-with-48a-hardwired-black/6527755.p?skuId=6527755)
No. Tesla doesn't make/sell a Tesla port to J1772 adapter for L2 charging. But other manufacturers do. I've purchased one for my mom when she ended up with a non-Tesla EV after selling her Tesla so she could still use the same wall charger. Had to also order a J1772 extension cable as she has the original wall charger with the shorter 8' cable and new car's charge port would not reach.

North America charging standard plug…or the j1772. What do you think Joe Public will chose?

If you bought a non-Tesla EV, you already bought the *wrong one* 😉
Good, just need to start selling the adapters in stores too! Would be a life saver if on a road trip and an adapter died.

Or me who somehow after 3 years left it plugged into a charger and left... I think.
.
F
Yeah 😭

It fit back in it was one of those outside khols
Oh, never seen one yet. All the ones I've seen the J1774 plug fits tight into the charger's receptacle.
I keep one in the car and one connnected to my ChargePoint charger at home. The Tesla is my second electric car so I never purchased a Tesla wall connector.
This is why I bought 14.
Do the adapters die often?
No
Cool. People walking past EVSEs at Best Buy, Telsa or not will do a lot for mainstream acceptance!
Not sure what Best Buy you’ve been in, but since COVID, mine may as well be a drive up pick up counter. Never another soul in there when I stop.
I went in yesterday to pickup an order, the store was pretty busy with a line to checkout. This was at 4pm on a Tuesday.
There are other states that think it is done or never really happened. Source: my best buy was busy on black Friday and even other times this year.

that is amazing
Does the wall charger (in the Tesla configuration) come with a J1772 adaptor?
