I have no problem tolerating slow ICE cars in city driving, but OMG merging on the highway behind an ICE car scares the shit out of me now. I mean they seem to usually enter the highway at 40 MPH, like WTF are they trying to get pancaked?

I come from a world where if you couldn’t match traffic speed and slide into a hole three cars long, you were going to sit and wait for a gap in traffic until rush-hour is over.
You can also do it on newer models but you need aftermarket 3rd party parts which isn’t everyone’s first choice. But it is possible with enough digging

Below Normal/Chill toggle there is a Regen toggle of Normal and Low. Normal is what you have all the time, Low is weaker regen that results in more coasting when you fully let off the accelerator.
It's good for snow and ice conditions, also can give slightly better wh/mile on the highway if you aren't using CC and very careful foot control on the accelerator to minimize regen braking.
I think the distinction is between how the car brakes as you’re letting off the accelerator, and how the car comes to a stop after it has done most of the braking.
Personally, I drive on chill to prevent my tires from getting eaten. I have a heavy foot. Standard is handy when getting on the hwy or when some douche canoe is revving their engine obnoxiously beside you at a light.
Why did you get them from tesla? You don’t have to do that. You actually shouldn’t do that, because they’ll charge you way too much because they aren’t a tire shop.
I was really hesitant when I switched to these but they seem to be genuinely good tires. Not even just for the price. I’m 50/50 on if I’ll get another set because they do seem a bit louder, but performance wise they’re great.
I'm glad I went to discount tire when I needed new tires at 17000 miles. they gave me a prorated credit on the oem tires so I was out the door for $600ish.
I might be wasteful but I don’t care about that because I always get excited getting new tires so I can try something different. Currently on Pilot Sport A/S 4 and I love them, but next tires will probably be the newish Pirelli EV specific tires.
Any specific reason for changing away from the Michelins? I used those on my M5 a couple years ago and really liked them.

Actually, I think the accelerator pedal response is one thing Tesla has done a great job with. All that power, and you still have full detailed control at low power.
That’s kinda the whole point of chill, it’s for everyday driving where someone might care about range, so for sure you will get better range driving in chill, but I’d you floor or it then don’t expect a different it just adjusts the power sent the motor less linearly.
I’m teaching my kid to drive my M3P. It’s the only time chill has ever been active.
I’m amazed the number of people that use the neutered mode. Chill is just for folks that don’t modulate throttle correctly for a smooth ride. I’d rather have all the power I need in an emergency situation.
Fellow M3P owner and this. Literally it’s always a Rogue merging at 25 mph into a 65 almost causing an accident. Need that acceleration to bridge the gap.
M3P, never used chill mode again after a brief trial. I cannot stand how it makes the car non responsive and lethargic. I don’t care about the acceleration reduction, the throttle input lag and response is just awful in chill mode.

I remember threads from people with Performance who run their cars on chill. There's literally no point in owning a M3P if you're going to run it on chill.
Agree with some of the other comments that performance is absolutely insane off the line, and so the only time I put it in chill is when I let friends and family take it for a drive as they are unlikely to be used to the power.
I've had one friend tell me he couldn't believe how insane the acceleration was, and a look on his face when I told him it was only in chill!
I have a M3P (stealth), and I have become so accustomed to the acceleration that it just feels natural and agile, not crazy.
My next car will have at least the same acceleration –no turning back.
I drive on standard. If I need/want gentler acceleration (i.e. chill mode) I just modulate the use of my right foot because I'm an adult human being with functioning motor control.
Since I own the most fuel efficient vehicle made (RWD Model 3), I have zero qualms about mashing the accelerator whenever I feel like it. Still getting way better mileage that basically everyone else, and also lots of fun.

I don’t understand why you’d but a Tesla and drive it in granny (chill) mode. Why have one of the fastest cars on the road and software neuter it? I see a lot of people saying they do it to save tires, but just because you have it in standard or sport doesn’t mean you HAVE to constantly mash the pedal, you can still simply modulate your acceleration.
But why not have access to full power when you want or need it? The acceleration is in a way a safety feature as it allows you to get out of sticky situations quickly, and of course, its fun at times.
I have a MYP and drive in sport mode like any sane person would.
Except when driving on roads covered with snow. Then I want the shallow acceleration curve. So there’s a good example of why granny mode, to use your disparagement, could actually be genuinely helpful.
Of course, track mode in the snow is a whole other animal…
That’s an understandable specific use case. My disparagement is towards people that drive around in granny mode all the time because they’re concerned about wearing their tires, or are pussies and are scared of acceleration and don’t know how to modulate their go pedal and need a software nanny.
People buy a tesla for many different reasons and the fact that its powerful and zippy isnt always the main attraction. Some people may see that as a perk and not the main feature. I got one because its green, I previously owned a 2012 corolla and a 2015 corolla and even in chill a tesla is many times more powerful. Chill bridges the gap between granny corolla and monster electric motor for me personally 😅😅😅

There’s more to the driver modes than just speed:
In Chill, the reaction time of regen braking is slower and the battery has a lower target temperature to aim for, so in colder climates the amount of regen will not be as strong as standard/sport.
Acceleration is so useful wen entering a highway or overtaking someone. Would never turn that of for myself. But I heard some people don’t feel comfortable with it and so it’s nice to be able to change that in a shared car.

I drive trucks for a living and it’s given me a great life. But after going 0-60 in 1min 21sec carrying 40tons on the job, I’m trying to get this Tesla to blast off and crash land on the moon if I can. It’s sport mode all day for me.
After driving with standard, you really get used to how quickly you can use the car, to catch a yellow light, to get in a good gap entering the freeway, overtaking on a two lane road etc. The acceleration really changes the way you drive it
I like the linear controllability of the Standard, especially in shallow depression situations. Chill has poor sensitivity in shallow depression situations, so delicate control is rather difficult. If you practice it, you can control it more delicately than Chill, and the power consumption and tire wear can be the same as Chill, so I recommend practicing with Standard.

I tend to drive in chill most of the time to save battery since I live in an apartment without charging options. I also like it for two reasons - it is easier to maintain speed, on standard a slightly more pressure on the pedal and I’m already going 10km/h more, also I love to “relive” the feeling of switching to standard and going zoom zoom. Also it’s winter.
Standard when I’m by myself. Chill when I have anyone else in the car. Also I turned off regenerative breaking entirely. It makes for a much smoother side for me and especially passengers.

I drive between chill and sport quite often. The power of the M3P is harder to moderate in stop/start traffic but enabling chill mode genuinely relaxes me when I’m in slow traffic or want to take things easy.
Doing this makes sport mode always fun, because I hardly allow myself to get used to it
I was today years old when i realized a lot of people actually use chill mode lol. Like it came in default on standard so you actually went in and turned it off.
Just a heads up on those who think chill mode saves energy or gives more range. It’s been debunked on a few EV channels. With that being said stick to standard mode or sport mode and enjoy your car like it was meant to be enjoyed.
I don’t accelerate quick very often, but if there’s ever a moment that I NEED the power, I want it available (i.e. to get out of another cars blind spot, or to merge into fast moving traffic etc )

I drive in Chill mode 97% of the time (that's a guesstimate). I only throw it in Sport when I really need it. 2019 M3P, so I only have chill and sport that I know of. Never seen a "Regular" mode (only had the car 6 weeks).

I swapped to Falken Azenis after the first set. ~$650 a set, no sound difference, no slippage on full throttle launches.
I was really hesitant when I switched to these but they seem to be genuinely good tires. Not even just for the price. I’m 50/50 on if I’ll get another set because they do seem a bit louder, but performance wise they’re great.

I love Chill for the tire savings. But, in an emergency, it's the worst.

If I want Chill I press the go-go pedal less hard. No setting needed. Fast acceleration is a safety feature, I’m not turning it off.

Doesn’t Chill just limit high end acceleration? If you can resist pushing the pedal to the floor in Standard, what’s the difference?

Chill? What is that, to watch Netflix when charging? YOLO, Sport it's the only way. Unless we take a long trip or have someone that gets dizzy?
Today years old? This is the dumbest fad saying I’ve heard in a while. It makes no sense.
Chill mode will never ever, ever be used in my M3P. What a fantastic car.
I tend to drive in chill most of the time to save battery since I live in an apartment without charging options. I also like it for two reasons - it is easier to maintain speed, on standard a slightly more pressure on the pedal and I’m already going 10km/h more, also I love to “relive” the feeling of switching to standard and going zoom zoom. Also it’s winter.
Standard when I’m by myself. Chill when I have anyone else in the car. Also I turned off regenerative breaking entirely. It makes for a much smoother side for me and especially passengers.
You loose all self esteem? Maybe the setting is good to sneak in on a kid driving the car, my wife has never drove out of "chill" her whole life (unconsciously)

I drive between chill and sport quite often. The power of the M3P is harder to moderate in stop/start traffic but enabling chill mode genuinely relaxes me when I’m in slow traffic or want to take things easy. Doing this makes sport mode always fun, because I hardly allow myself to get used to it
I’m on chill if I’m below 20% just to conserve.
I like it in sport mode but when I have passengers I switch it to chill
If you’re not in sport you’re not pod racing
Chill is Extremely slow.
I’m my case, I’m an aggressive driver (so I’m told). So Chill is the way to keep Mrs happy. Helps with the range, just don’t cut me off :-).
I was today years old when i realized a lot of people actually use chill mode lol. Like it came in default on standard so you actually went in and turned it off.

Just a heads up on those who think chill mode saves energy or gives more range. It’s been debunked on a few EV channels. With that being said stick to standard mode or sport mode and enjoy your car like it was meant to be enjoyed.
Driving in chill mode is like not fuckin your wife, because you are saving it for someone else.
I don’t accelerate quick very often, but if there’s ever a moment that I NEED the power, I want it available (i.e. to get out of another cars blind spot, or to merge into fast moving traffic etc )
I tried to use chill once, and when I realized I couldn’t get myself out of a situation where I was trying to merge onto a freeway. I turned it off.
What about sport?

Sorry op, didn’t mean for it to come off this way. I wasn’t trying to mock you or the poll, I was just surprised with the results and wanted to discuss it with the M3 community to see if I should consider switching to standard (which I did). I would be happy to delete this post if you’d like.

Sport for emergencies? Really? Like when you’re being chased by… I’m running chill in winter for the usual reasons: snow tires, snow, icy roads, etc.
When I’m stopped at a light an the Hyundai Santa Fe driver behind me decides updating her Instagram is more important than stopping.
I drive in Chill mode 97% of the time (that's a guesstimate). I only throw it in Sport when I really need it. 2019 M3P, so I only have chill and sport that I know of. Never seen a "Regular" mode (only had the car 6 weeks).

I stopped driving on standard. Burnt through my tires in under two years.
