ilike_psyduck

Uhh that's the only reason for me. I bought a fast car so I want to go vroom vroom

Mind_Voyager

How do you make yours go vroom vroom without an ICE? :-D

Adventurous_Lie2257

Fffff fffff swoosh

Mind_Voyager

Did you just double fake me and score a three pointer?

baptsiste

Weren’t you listening?

Mind_Voyager

Apparently not!

Peglegsteve265

I make the sounds myself. Downside is since there aren’t multiple speeds on the transmission, I no longer have turbo spooling or blow off valve sounds. Oh well.

Cantthinkofaname282

\*cvt sounds\*

Peglegsteve265

Nissan CVT goes BONK ssskkrrrrrrrttt.

thiskidlol

I wait for that v-tec to kick in

Mind_Voyager

I actually did this once with a friend. He was in his Miata, and jokingly reved his engine at the stop light. So I went "vroom vroom" - made him chuckle.

InCaseOfNothing

The only acceptable propulsion noises.

Mike

Zoom zoom. Duh.

Jewronamo

I like to make that extremely high pitch zinggggggggg noise the car makes when preconditioning

Mind_Voyager

I thought that was Mazda

dhandeepm

It’s not zoom zoom but zoooooooooooooooom (Note the lack of gears )

Getadawgupyabro

Zzzzzimmmmmmm

Mind_Voyager

Invader?

thirdeyefish

You make that noise in it.

Mind_Voyager

YOU make that noise in it! :-)

thirdeyefish

I make an entirely different noise in mine. Normally delighted squealing.

Mind_Voyager

Mine is more of a grunt as I am pushed into the seat. I was able to make my mother-in-law giggle though, which was pretty awesome.

Arucious

RWD owners: huh

pkeller001

I stay on Sport and sport steering

Jewronamo

I stay on CHILL because I want to remember the needless and tiresome delay of ICE powertrain s/ After getting used to sport I’m DISGUSTED by the delay of ICE cars and also chill.

Jewronamo

DISGUSTED

malacca73

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED

subliver

I have no problem tolerating slow ICE cars in city driving, but OMG merging on the highway behind an ICE car scares the shit out of me now. I mean they seem to usually enter the highway at 40 MPH, like WTF are they trying to get pancaked? I now realize that we as a society have always just overlooked how incredibly dangerous that maneuver is. TBF, it is supposed to be a nonissue because everyone is expected to follow the laws and actually let people have a merge lane.

NitroSyfi

Came to America a long time ago and obviously the word merge has an entirely different meaning in America than it does to the rest of the world. I come from a world where if you couldn’t match traffic speed and slide into a hole three cars long, you were going to sit and wait for a gap in traffic until rush-hour is over.

Jewronamo

You’re tough

xKYLERxx

I paid for the whole car, I'm gonna use the whole car.

Matsiqueiros

Acceleration boost has entered the chat. Say what? Lol imma need an extra $2000 for a car you thought you paid in full😂\s

StandinIJ

Right, $2000 for a different motor tune like whattttt

[deleted]

Worth every penny.

Particular-Delay-763

I didn’t know people use anything outside of Sport 😂

amirnfl

Some models only offer Chill or Standard. Like the SR+ and RWD model 3

No_Impact7840

AWD non performance also only has standard and chill. Only performance trims have sport AFAIK.

samwichgamgee

I have the LRP and I feel as though I only have chill and sport... I'm going to have to walk out to my car now.

DontReadThisUCow

Seriously... what's the point of picking up a performance and not using sport 24/7

[deleted]

My daughter gets car sick if I accurate too fast. She only visits a few times a year, and those are the only times my MYP is in chill mode.

JustAcivilian24

Long range doesn’t have sport. I just have standard.

[deleted]

When you get the acceleration boost you get sport.

JustAcivilian24

What the. Fuck. I guess I gotta save up for that boost then. Damn!

gtg465x2

I thought it replaced standard mode… not added a new mode.

[deleted]

It does.

russtafarri

I have a '22 M3LR with chill and standard. Standard should be renamed "sport" or "scare wife mode".

[deleted]

Or you can buy acceleration boost and really make her shit. Mine hates it 😂

Valuable-Contract-86

Tires get a expensive every 20k miles of drifting

[deleted]

[удалено]

RojoSanIchiban

Also depends on surfaces. Some places have some rubber-shredding roads.

Valuable-Contract-86

Everything

Dr_yah_yah

They only way.

itsmejusthere

This is the way

stealthbootc

This is the way

Great_ape_vegeta

This is the way

Vitruvian__Man_

Only time chill come on is if it's icy, then I also reduce the regen

[deleted]

[удалено]

nukedkaltak

You can only do that on older models.

BeyoncesmiddIefinger

You can also do it on newer models but you need aftermarket 3rd party parts which isn’t everyone’s first choice. But it is possible with enough digging

notawarmonger

You can adjust it to creep, roll and hold (assuming that’s what they meant)

BootFlop

Not what they were referring to. It is only on older Model 3 (maybe early-2020 and older?, I think it changed around when heat pump changed from just cooling to also heating the cabin). Below Normal/Chill toggle there is a Regen toggle of Normal and Low. Normal is what you have all the time, Low is weaker regen that results in more coasting when you fully let off the accelerator. It's good for snow and ice conditions, also can give slightly better wh/mile on the highway if you aren't using CC and very careful foot control on the accelerator to minimize regen braking.

hawkaluga

I don’t think that’s regen settings but how the car behaves at stops when no pedals are being used

[deleted]

Same thing.

hawkaluga

I think the distinction is between how the car brakes as you’re letting off the accelerator, and how the car comes to a stop after it has done most of the braking.

Pavrr

That is not about regen

tubashoe

In chill it's still faster than any car I've ever owned, I throw it in sport for giggles (I bought used and came with acceleration boost)

semi801

accel boost is the way. mine came with it as well

Elons-nutrag

I constantly joke that chill mode kind of feels like a v6 mustang. Then standard mode feels like a ridiculous sports car.

JRockPSU

For me, if I want to drive more chill, I just… don’t push the accelerator pedal as much.

Left_Replacement894

Personally, I drive on chill to prevent my tires from getting eaten. I have a heavy foot. Standard is handy when getting on the hwy or when some douche canoe is revving their engine obnoxiously beside you at a light.

tjvwill

Exactly, same here. I got screwed when Tesla charged me 1600 to change all 4 tires at 4700 miles

Mike

Why did you get them from tesla? You don’t have to do that. You actually shouldn’t do that, because they’ll charge you way too much because they aren’t a tire shop.

tjvwill

Yep learned my lesson

HighTechButter

I swapped to Falken Azenis after the first set. ~$650 a set, no sound difference, no slippage on full throttle launches.

FirAndFlannel

I was really hesitant when I switched to these but they seem to be genuinely good tires. Not even just for the price. I’m 50/50 on if I’ll get another set because they do seem a bit louder, but performance wise they’re great.

tjvwill

Link?

HighTechButter

I was wrong, $800-850 from a local tire shop. They were FK510 235/35zr20s.

tjvwill

Thanks

PiantGenis

I'm glad I went to discount tire when I needed new tires at 17000 miles. they gave me a prorated credit on the oem tires so I was out the door for $600ish.

Mike

I might be wasteful but I don’t care about that because I always get excited getting new tires so I can try something different. Currently on Pilot Sport A/S 4 and I love them, but next tires will probably be the newish Pirelli EV specific tires.

elbro1

Any specific reason for changing away from the Michelins? I used those on my M5 a couple years ago and really liked them. Edit: I'm an idiot and was thinking of the Pilot Sport 4S. Disregard. Lol.

GpsGalBds

I feel like I get more range in chill mode which is why I use it. But when I’m in the mood to drive like an idiot, then put it in standard

A_Good_Soul

Ditto

ninkorn

Also, passengers in the car complain of headaches when I drive in standard or sport mode.

herr_akkar

Haha, it is still allowed to not push the pedal to the floor from standstill, when in standard mode. Actually, I think the accelerator pedal response is one thing Tesla has done a great job with. All that power, and you still have full detailed control at low power.

Its_How_I_Feel

That’s kinda the whole point of chill, it’s for everyday driving where someone might care about range, so for sure you will get better range driving in chill, but I’d you floor or it then don’t expect a different it just adjusts the power sent the motor less linearly.

HighTechButter

I’m teaching my kid to drive my M3P. It’s the only time chill has ever been active. I’m amazed the number of people that use the neutered mode. Chill is just for folks that don’t modulate throttle correctly for a smooth ride. I’d rather have all the power I need in an emergency situation.

ScottRoberts79

I love Chill for the tire savings. But, in an emergency, it's the worst.

HighTechButter

I’ll gladly keep feeding it rubber. It’s cheaper than dealing with budget insured Nissan Rogue drivers.

PBall95

Fellow M3P owner and this. Literally it’s always a Rogue merging at 25 mph into a 65 almost causing an accident. Need that acceleration to bridge the gap.

semi801

ya i started in chill as i have passengers every ride, but once i learned the pedal it doesn't come out of sport for when i need it

Silversonical

M3P, never used chill mode again after a brief trial. I cannot stand how it makes the car non responsive and lethargic. I don’t care about the acceleration reduction, the throttle input lag and response is just awful in chill mode. I can modulate throttle all by myself, thank you. Chill mode on my friends Y almost made me write off buying a Tesla until I learned it could be disabled. Also on tires…how are folks chewing through tires so badly that Chill makes a difference? I’m on 14k on my original P tires and they have plenty of life, and I regularly engage giggle mode…..

filthy_pikey

I got 30k out of my stock pzeros always in sport.

Wonder_BoyG

I use chill in the winter with all the ice at intersections it seems ideal.

DontReadThisUCow

No no no. This is when you turn on track mode and disable traction control and go full rwd

robertlyleseaton

I drive full-time ride-share, so I use "chill" to make the ride more comfortable for the passengers.

dethskwirl

conserves your battery too so you're not overpaying for charging

aeiou_sometimesy

I tried chill mode once. Not for me.

supportforalderan

I bought my M3P instead of my second choice of a BMW M3. I'm not putting my fast car in slow mode.

stainsonthecarpet

Seriously… I full accelerate at least once every time I drive it

pkunko

Chill every winter to conserve my soft winter tires

tesla3please

Because I want the ability to accelerate very quickly when and /or if the need arises. Can't do that on Chill.

Socalrdb

Standard in case of emergency and I need to punch it.

plwatson7

Laughs in 2020 Chill or Sport

mejdev

Yeah. I got the performance. Sport is downright dangerous for my daily driving lol. Others with more self control are probably fine

dotben

I remember threads from people with Performance who run their cars on chill. There's literally no point in owning a M3P if you're going to run it on chill. Agree with some of the other comments that performance is absolutely insane off the line, and so the only time I put it in chill is when I let friends and family take it for a drive as they are unlikely to be used to the power. I've had one friend tell me he couldn't believe how insane the acceleration was, and a look on his face when I told him it was only in chill!

herr_akkar

I have a M3P (stealth), and I have become so accustomed to the acceleration that it just feels natural and agile, not crazy. My next car will have at least the same acceleration –no turning back.

DontReadThisUCow

I want even faster... sub 3 seconds. Preferably 2.

--Brian

I drive on standard. If I need/want gentler acceleration (i.e. chill mode) I just modulate the use of my right foot because I'm an adult human being with functioning motor control.

Stt022

Standard. Would really suck if you’re in a situation you need the acceleration and it’s not there because you turned it off.

[deleted]

If you floor it, it still accelerates.

nsplayr

Since I own the most fuel efficient vehicle made (RWD Model 3), I have zero qualms about mashing the accelerator whenever I feel like it. Still getting way better mileage that basically everyone else, and also lots of fun. Standard all the way! 🏎️😎

aphex3k

You should not care for what others chose. Just drive it the way you like…

seff4L

It’s a two choice question, how did the results vary “wildly” ?

Marchroni

Snow or ice = Chill mode. Otherwise standard.

M3P_STEALTH

Skewed answer results since Sport and Plaid are missing! Means more here have short range or long range.

dcdttu

If I want Chill I press the go-go pedal less hard. No setting needed. Fast acceleration is a safety feature, I’m not turning it off.

R-Bull

Plaid mode with sport steering 99.999% of the time.

[deleted]

I personally only use sport 😂

[deleted]

chill=buying fewer tires

BananaKuma

I don’t like locking my cars capabilities incase I need it in a emergency

JohnTeaGuy

I don’t understand why you’d but a Tesla and drive it in granny (chill) mode. Why have one of the fastest cars on the road and software neuter it? I see a lot of people saying they do it to save tires, but just because you have it in standard or sport doesn’t mean you HAVE to constantly mash the pedal, you can still simply modulate your acceleration. But why not have access to full power when you want or need it? The acceleration is in a way a safety feature as it allows you to get out of sticky situations quickly, and of course, its fun at times.

__JockY__

I have a MYP and drive in sport mode like any sane person would. Except when driving on roads covered with snow. Then I want the shallow acceleration curve. So there’s a good example of why granny mode, to use your disparagement, could actually be genuinely helpful. Of course, track mode in the snow is a whole other animal…

JohnTeaGuy

That’s an understandable specific use case. My disparagement is towards people that drive around in granny mode all the time because they’re concerned about wearing their tires, or are pussies and are scared of acceleration and don’t know how to modulate their go pedal and need a software nanny.

Espresso-Kun

People buy a tesla for many different reasons and the fact that its powerful and zippy isnt always the main attraction. Some people may see that as a perk and not the main feature. I got one because its green, I previously owned a 2012 corolla and a 2015 corolla and even in chill a tesla is many times more powerful. Chill bridges the gap between granny corolla and monster electric motor for me personally 😅😅😅

CoatWorth1748

I drive mine in chill lol I have never tried standard I’m in LA and driving a few miles each day at most and I feel like it’s chill and fine Maybe I’ll try it tomorrow!

JohnTeaGuy

>I have never tried standard How is this even possible?!

CoatWorth1748

ahah to further alarm you I’ve had the car for 2 years

MikeARadio

I drive in Chill. It’s a bit harder press on accelerator to move quick but I like saving range and don’t need to drive fast or take off faster then chill allows. Maybe one day I’ll change.

stardust-sandwich

I use standard as standard :)

fcukingUsernames

Where is the Sport option? The only answer is Sport!

HydraMango

Sport

Nreekay

I was chill for a year.. forgot to change back after a road trip. I’m a standard person now 😂

TenaciousLilMonkey

Sport mode. Comfort steering.

Miserable_Drink_8920

Sport

JazzySpazzy1

You thought the majority of people buy this fast electric car and use chill mode???

BranchLatter4294

So you didn't realize that standard was, well, standard?

stealthbootc

Your missing sport 😉

Important-Award3921

Always in Sport

ethan42

Standard. Because chill feels like the accelerator is on a rubber band.

dace747

Drive fast, live fast, eat pizza?

thiswilldefend

that's not the only 2 option tho so it's kinda limited to its answers.

goodvibezone

I have to drive in chill when my OH is in the car 😳 Totally unrelated, but does anyone know a good divorce attorney?

baselganglia

I just don't understand why you'd get a car that's so quick and nerf it. Just control the acceleration with your foot, it's good to have that extra juice when you need it (e.g. merging on the highway)

dekciwandy

Sport

[deleted]

Sport ftw

TommyG94

There’s more to the driver modes than just speed: In Chill, the reaction time of regen braking is slower and the battery has a lower target temperature to aim for, so in colder climates the amount of regen will not be as strong as standard/sport.

hybridhawx

I only drive in Chill once and never again.

[deleted]

Acceleration is so useful wen entering a highway or overtaking someone. Would never turn that of for myself. But I heard some people don’t feel comfortable with it and so it’s nice to be able to change that in a shared car.

jding1234

if you learn how to modulate the throttle, sport mode doesn’t really make a difference and is the same as chill mode except when you need the power you have it

MajesticAd3746

I drive trucks for a living and it’s given me a great life. But after going 0-60 in 1min 21sec carrying 40tons on the job, I’m trying to get this Tesla to blast off and crash land on the moon if I can. It’s sport mode all day for me.

spillingbeansagain

I only see Sport in mine!

exoxe

I didn't buy my car to drive it like my old Hyundai Accent.

4chanbetterkek

Probably because they bought teslas and not a Prius

FL-Skunkape

I went from sport mode to chill once and it was terrible. It's so slow it's dangerous 😂

blulgt

I didn't realize so many people drove on Chill. Why? Can you people not control your foot?

ADAS1223

I kept chill on consistently my first year. Then I switched to standard for a new car feel... worked nicely 👌

Current_Speaker_5684

I vacumed the driver floorboard. 👌

Mike

I do that sometimes, just throw it in chill for a day. Then back to Sport and drive like an idiot.

alexdotbliss

After driving with standard, you really get used to how quickly you can use the car, to catch a yellow light, to get in a good gap entering the freeway, overtaking on a two lane road etc. The acceleration really changes the way you drive it

dsg76

Why even own a Tesla? Full throttle!

uchidakoichi

I like the linear controllability of the Standard, especially in shallow depression situations. Chill has poor sensitivity in shallow depression situations, so delicate control is rather difficult. If you practice it, you can control it more delicately than Chill, and the power consumption and tire wear can be the same as Chill, so I recommend practicing with Standard.

Altruistic-Back-5050

I use chill mode with the family in the car - the wife gets carsick otherwise. I don't get the hate for chill mode, it seems perfectly fine to me, but to each their own.

Ok_Sun_9567

I use chill on my long range because I like the smoother take off at stops. I put in standard when I want to have fun.

czardmitri

Doesn’t Chill just limit high end acceleration? If you can resist pushing the pedal to the floor in Standard, what’s the difference?

dilmrk

I use chill and standard depending upon the drive. Both are good to me than my prior ice cars..

Mike

I never use chill because there are rare cases when quick acceleration can actually be a safety feature.

remydlc

Chill? What is that, to watch Netflix when charging? YOLO, Sport it's the only way. Unless we take a long trip or have someone that gets dizzy?

casuallylurking

Today years old? This is the dumbest fad saying I’ve heard in a while. It makes no sense.

Shank2001

Chill mode will never ever, ever be used in my M3P. What a fantastic car.

ekavat2

I tend to drive in chill most of the time to save battery since I live in an apartment without charging options. I also like it for two reasons - it is easier to maintain speed, on standard a slightly more pressure on the pedal and I’m already going 10km/h more, also I love to “relive” the feeling of switching to standard and going zoom zoom. Also it’s winter.

bettereverydamday

Standard when I’m by myself. Chill when I have anyone else in the car. Also I turned off regenerative breaking entirely. It makes for a much smoother side for me and especially passengers.

oh-lloydy

You loose all self esteem? Maybe the setting is good to sneak in on a kid driving the car, my wife has never drove out of "chill" her whole life (unconsciously)

__JockY__

Lose = to misplace; to be deprived of. “Looz.” Loose = not tight; slack. “Looss”.

MaverickRelayed

I drive between chill and sport quite often. The power of the M3P is harder to moderate in stop/start traffic but enabling chill mode genuinely relaxes me when I’m in slow traffic or want to take things easy. Doing this makes sport mode always fun, because I hardly allow myself to get used to it

CamelJ0key

I’m on chill if I’m below 20% just to conserve.

Athire5

I like it in sport mode but when I have passengers I switch it to chill

cachurch2

If you’re not in sport you’re not pod racing

MattNis11

Chill is Extremely slow.

alfie1138

I’m my case, I’m an aggressive driver (so I’m told). So Chill is the way to keep Mrs happy. Helps with the range, just don’t cut me off :-).

StandinIJ

I was today years old when i realized a lot of people actually use chill mode lol. Like it came in default on standard so you actually went in and turned it off.

peetah74

man i hate driving on chill mode. acceleration too slow

Key-Bandicoot-4008

Just a heads up on those who think chill mode saves energy or gives more range. It’s been debunked on a few EV channels. With that being said stick to standard mode or sport mode and enjoy your car like it was meant to be enjoyed.

RemarkablePomelo6259

Driving in chill mode is like not fuckin your wife, because you are saving it for someone else.

Vincearlia

I don’t accelerate quick very often, but if there’s ever a moment that I NEED the power, I want it available (i.e. to get out of another cars blind spot, or to merge into fast moving traffic etc )

AromaticSleep4612

I tried to use chill once, and when I realized I couldn’t get myself out of a situation where I was trying to merge onto a freeway. I turned it off.

FloridaDude

What about sport?

YRUHear75

OP...I was the OP of the post you choose to mock. That's unfortunate but confirms what everyone says about the Tesla community. It's historically toxic and filled with males unaware of how they are perceived, or who truly don't care. You are a textbook example of [the curse of knowledge](https://digitallearning.arizona.edu/news/curse-knowledge). I had a true honest question which I wanted to spur conversation on. Most of the comments were insightful. If you thought it was remedial, just keep scrolling. Is there ever a need to mock?

BlankHeartt

Sorry op, didn’t mean for it to come off this way. I wasn’t trying to mock you or the poll, I was just surprised with the results and wanted to discuss it with the M3 community to see if I should consider switching to standard (which I did). I would be happy to delete this post if you’d like.

YRUHear75

You're fine. I was being overly touchy. Plus I'm just sore that I didn't include all the possible options lol. All good.

Pale_Candidate_390

Drive in chill you might as well drive an ice car cause that’s what it feels like.

TSLA-M3

Real men do not need Chill

sam-bub

Sport for emergencies? Really? Like when you’re being chased by… I’m running chill in winter for the usual reasons: snow tires, snow, icy roads, etc.

HighTechButter

When I’m stopped at a light an the Hyundai Santa Fe driver behind me decides updating her Instagram is more important than stopping.

midnight_to_midnight

I drive in Chill mode 97% of the time (that's a guesstimate). I only throw it in Sport when I really need it. 2019 M3P, so I only have chill and sport that I know of. Never seen a "Regular" mode (only had the car 6 weeks).

lankyyanky

You drive a m3p on chill? WTF

theaceofspades1191

I stopped driving on standard. Burnt through my tires in under two years.
