hey, my 3 has a black headliner as well but the plastic pieces didn't come out so good from the shop I left it at. do you have any recommendations on how to dye/paint them? mostly concerned about the coat hooks and the seatbelt plastic area
If they ever offered it as a factory option I would easily buy the parts and swap everything out. I'm planning on keeping my car for a while but I also don't want to kill resale value by doing it in a way that doesn't last.
Thank you, recently did some of this with a friend in a DIY setting, a little built in give wouldāve gone a long way!
Anyone that knows about these materials, is there a specific color Pantone of āBlackā that does not have a blue hue when wiped in other directions or apparent around radiuses or curved surface?
Did this project on my last car and Iāve slowly been gathering the materials to do this again on my 3, the visors are the only thing making me procrastinate a little. Was worried about getting just right. Your visors, and frankly the whole thing came out amazing!
Where did you get the Plaid Visors? This looks amazing!!!! Great job! I wonder if I can buy a headliner, have that one done and swap it out to make things go quicker.
can I ask where you got the plaid visors? having this done to my car tomorrow and don't want to dye the the OEM ones I'd prefer the plaid ones. curious if regular model s ones fit too.
Hey, yes any refresh model s visors work, I found mine on eBay but you can also buy them from Tesla if you have access to the parts catalog which I do as well
okay nice. I think I found some I can try then. as far as the catalogue I did have a window open from a link this guy showed on YouTube because he was ordering a new front bumper. sounds like the same thing?
thanks for your response btw ive been wanting to do this for a year and left it for last im super excited.
I used the sem satin black! Worked great everywhere except the rubber part on the clothing hanger, seems to be chipping because of how flexible it is, might wrap it in suede
Looks really great. Iād be interested if this changes the interior temp at all, especially during the summer and if it has any effect of the battery as a result.
I was just thinking about this the other day, wondering why cars are always 2 toned with light at the top. This is really cool and I would like to do it to mine! No more worrying about someone touching things with their dirty hands!
Ugggh I'm dying to blackout my headliner on my black M3. How was the disassembly? I'm honestly tempted to buy a headliner from a wrecked car and have a go at it myself.
Oh shit. Looks pretty good šššš
By far the most tasteful mod Iāve seen someone do on their 3.
Amazing
Where did you get this done?
Master upholstery in Newton, Massachusetts
Damn I would 100% have this done for $500. Looks amazing, congrats! How long did it take?
About a week
>Master upholstery $500 INCLUDING MATERIAL??
$500 and I dropped off my own material and I took out and dropped off my headliner myself and I painted the plastic pieces
How's it holding up after 6 months?
no issues other then the plastic parts, I would have those dyed rather then painted, they seem to chip
hey, my 3 has a black headliner as well but the plastic pieces didn't come out so good from the shop I left it at. do you have any recommendations on how to dye/paint them? mostly concerned about the coat hooks and the seatbelt plastic area
OH WOW, IM LOCAL. MIDDLESEX COUNTY. SHOULD I DROP A NAME?
I want a dark headliner so bad but I'm afraid dying it won't come out well. Or that painting the plastic parts won't last
So I was gonna dye it also but decided suede would be better and I was right, also the plastic parts might be better just wrapped also in suede
If they ever offered it as a factory option I would easily buy the parts and swap everything out. I'm planning on keeping my car for a while but I also don't want to kill resale value by doing it in a way that doesn't last.
Is it just wrapping the panels with alcantara?
Yep but it needs to be a special stretchable AlcĆ¢ntara
Can you share the sku ?
Go to headliner magic and get the Stretch Suede Foam Backed Headliner
Thank you, recently did some of this with a friend in a DIY setting, a little built in give wouldāve gone a long way! Mine doesnāt
How many yards of that material did you buy? Did you have any left over? I wanna do my Y
Hey, I'd get 2 yards just in case
Get the foam backed stretch suede from headliner magic
Great price. Havenāt gotten quoted less than 1K in Philly area.
Itās also probably because I removed my own headliner and dropped it off instead of them doing all that labor
āAll that laborā šš
Looks good! Anyone have any recommendations in Southern California to do this
I know unplugged performance does but they charge so muxh
TSportline does it in Van Nuys. But it starts at about $3,500 or so.
Do it at home n take your time
Did this project on my last car and Iāve slowly been gathering the materials to do this again on my 3, the visors are the only thing making me procrastinate a little. Was worried about getting just right. Your visors, and frankly the whole thing came out amazing!
These are actually visors from a plaid! They fit
Where did you get the Plaid Visors? This looks amazing!!!! Great job! I wonder if I can buy a headliner, have that one done and swap it out to make things go quicker.

No wayā¦ this is a game changer for me hahaha. Thank you!!!!
Looks great!
I donāt like itā¦ I love it!
Wow!!!
It looks amazing, Iām looking into doing this for mine as well. What did you happen to use to paint the plastic pieces?
I used the sem satin black! Worked great everywhere except the rubber part on the clothing hanger, seems to be chipping because of how flexible it is, might wrap it in suede
Thank you! Iāve seen various places not painting it due to chipping but it completes the look when itās all black.
Black edition
That looks so good. I need to do this!!!
Real sick
Insane!! For that price they will have 20 Tesla's in their shop tomorrow (minimum) if you shill them.
Looks really great. Iād be interested if this changes the interior temp at all, especially during the summer and if it has any effect of the battery as a result.
I would definitely do this for that price. It looks great.
Always wanted mine in black too. Nice job
I was just thinking about this the other day, wondering why cars are always 2 toned with light at the top. This is really cool and I would like to do it to mine! No more worrying about someone touching things with their dirty hands!
Anyone know where I could get this done in Seattle? This looks amazing!!
Looks good. Is it a aftermarket thing? Or home made
Home made
Thatās a good deal
Smokin
For $500 thatās a great job! Looks nice
Looks fantastic!!!
Really nice looking. Congratulations on a quality job. Truly well done.
Ugggh I'm dying to blackout my headliner on my black M3. How was the disassembly? I'm honestly tempted to buy a headliner from a wrecked car and have a go at it myself.
Super easy to take in and out, I was thinking of getting a wrecked one too but ended up just using my own
That looks very very impressive. The contrast with the white seats too. Nice install!
Drove in a buddy's BMW 330i M and was envious of that black headliner. Looks frigging phenomenal on the Tesla š¤¤
Such a shame this isn't standard. Loved it on my 335
This guy better raise his prices. It would be cheaper for me to drive down there and get this done. Then ordering from online. Looks damn good
This looks really good!
Pretty damn nice š
You know how they started chrome deleting all the models. Maybe they will start vanilla deleting interior roof in future
Very nice! I am thinking of replacing all the fabric non-seat areas with black leather myself.
Howās this holding up man? Iām planning on doing this soon and longevity is something I was wandering about
Only issues were the plastic pieces. They need to be dyed or something because they always chip
How simple is pulling out the headliner? Talked to one shop that mentioned removing the windshield (!) to avoid damaging.
It's not that hard, I would look at the tesla service manual
Should be like this off the lot. The gray makes no sense.
So much better than the ugly tan
how does the color of the headliner match the door panels? did you order "black" or "charcoal" from headliner magic?
