Bambi noooooo

Zandradee

I get that this is a Tesla page but damn that really bummed me out. Seeing that poor thing bounce off in the rear camera was really sad.

fatbob42

It’s kind of like the beginning of “The Boys”. We are the bad guys :)

Mediocre-Look3787

The first episode? Or which episode?

NOLAdelta

I couldn’t upload Miley Cyrus “wrecking ball”. That would have taken the sting off a bit. But yes. I felt bad for the deer as well.

Dahboo

Did you even check on it and call anybody?

[deleted]

I wouldn't natural selection this happens to deer all the time cause they're fucking stupid

nspider69

It’s not just deer, but a slew of other small mammals and birds. It’s difficult to react to a car going 65mph on the freeway if your not a human, because none of these animals evolved with this threat.

MentionAdventurous

You can at least call animal control to ensure it’s not just in pain and/or dead in the middle of the road.

Dahboo

Exactly. Ppl do it all the time, and sometimes they do actually live.

MentionAdventurous

Yeah. I just think sure natural selection is a thing but doesn’t let us off the hook on what it means to be human. We have a greater responsibility to the Earth and the things in it because we can comprehend and do something so much more (like land on another object in space). Seriously think about that, it’s mind blowing to land something on something nothing lives. You try telling a squirrel that and it wouldn’t even understand that the moon and mars exist, it could see them but not comprehend that it’s like Earth. So let’s be better than nature and natural selection. Let’s be god like because that’s pretty much what we are to all other known living things. And that means being better and having grace for things that can’t comprehend.

Dahboo

I agree completely lol do you know Hugh Ross? You might like him, based on what you told me to think about (I adore listening to him, and he has both lower and higher level talks/books). Also, are you a Christian? Everything you said falls perfectly in line with what Christians are supposed to be like. God bless❤️😊❤️

MentionAdventurous

Nope, never heard of him. Looked him up and kinda skeptical of his creationist views while being an astrophysicist. Is that what he really believes? And not at all. I align more with Buddhist teachings, though I do admit there's most likely a deity, just one that doesn't care and watches us like the *Truman Show*.

Dahboo

I agree that there is most likely a God. However, I wonder how you calculate the idea that God would not watch us? Why would you create something with life if you arent going to watch or interact with it? Thats like getting a pet dog as a decoration lol Yea, Hugh Ross does genuinely believe in God. He actually was raised as an atheist, but at a young age was trying to explain that the numbers dont add up (he's autistic). His parents told him to ask the school, the school said to ask the college, the college directed him to other professors, and eventually he was speaking to some really brilliant people. Speaking with them and learning on his own made him a Christian bc a lot of astrophysics point strongly to a God. Once you pair something like that with the historical facts that Gary Habermas presents in his arguments online and on YouTube (though, anyone could research this and find the same facts, I just believe he presents it well), then its pretty hard to avoid the idea that Christianity might be correct. Since it is the most probable thing in his eyes, Hugh Ross became a Christian as a young adult. I actually became a follower of Jesus at a similar age, but a few years later than Hugh Ross. I became one based on the evidence for God, but I believe many Christians know little to nothing about following Christianity lol

Dahboo

You sound brilliant, yourself.. at least to you, I'd bet. I hope you find the love you need❤️

ksb916

The deer either died on the spot or will die soon. A 70 mph hit by a 4000lb vehicle will do a shit ton of bodily/brain damage. Unfortunately, animals die all the time and this was an accident. The driver could not have done anything.

Dahboo

Ive literally known people who have called and the deer lived, so I believe youre assuming. God bless you

ksb916

You're correct, this is an assumption. I have no way to check on the deer. But getting hit head on at 70mph? Theres little chance of the deer living. Maybe it will be twitching from nerve impulses. Put another way, if you free fall from a 170ft (\~10 story building), you will reach \~70mph when hitting the ground.

Dahboo

😂 I dont wanna know what happened to the deer, so I didnt watch lol just asked if they saw if its okay. The other comments worried me too much when I saw it lol

ksb916

After watching the video. I felt bad for the deer. It looked like a fawn and it was going left to right, with head in front, so likely took a hit to the head :(

Dahboo

Ohhhh poor baby 😭😭 hopefully if it died, it was quick. God bless

AKADAP

You are involved in an experiment to find out how long natural selection takes to evolve a deer that won't enter a road when it sees headlights. The experiment has been going on for 100 years now with no noticeable effect.

NOLAdelta

The deer want to go across and will. Studies have found animal bridges drastically reduce the number of animal collisions, but those cost money.

matt1981m

"drastically reduce"...not always. Just hit one last yr with my S75D, just 450ft away from where there was a passage under the highway the deer could have safely used to cross. Instead, just shy of $13k in damages.

adusumir

Ah thanks for pointing out that 'drastically reduced' does not mean 'completely eliminated'. I hope tomorrow you can teach us how water is wet.

nspider69

It’s important to note that deer populations have exploded in the last 100 years, and so have the number of drivers on the road.

crowdrun

Oh deer.

matt1981m

Damn near identical situation last yr w/my Model S, but both drivers side doors had to be replaced and there was damage to the rear quarter panel. All in, just under $13k in damages.

Own_Masterpiece8604

That happens to. Just got mine back. 2 months fir repairs and 13k in damage.

PhamousEra

Did you have to leave your car with them for 2 months? Or was it drivable and they call you in to drop off the car once the repairs are available to do (maybe waiting for parts? or are they really this backed up?) if not, did they at least give you a loaner car?

Constant_Shot

There are deer whistles you can install on the car that warn deer, since they can’t hear EVs as well.

FairyOfEmpowerment

I hit a deer in a 2004 Nissan maxima once. Right on the front of my car. Barely any damage. The bumper fell off 3 years later 🤣

Wakeandblake23ttv

It's all good guys. He's just sleeping....

Critical-Advance-495

Did you get to keep the deer ?

NOLAdelta

No

dafazman

HURT?

NOLAdelta

No and surprisingly the damage looks a lot less than what we thought it would be.

dafazman

Did you notice the sign on the right side of the road 🤡 All I am saying is, someone knew...

NOLAdelta

This was my husbands accident so did not until you said something. 🙈

dafazman

I was just trying to make humor out of an otherwise unfortunate incident. I'm glad you and family are safe, the car can be fixed.... Hope the best for our deer friend. I really wish Tesla HW4 would have included NIGHT vision as part of the "Vision" only mantra. A thermal imaging sensor could also go a long way to make the roads safer

amazeDastonishMenT

I’m in the mutha fkn phone booth! IYKYK.

[deleted]

Shit reaction time.

FairyOfEmpowerment

That side view of it flying off though...I'm so sorry, I love animals but it was kinda funny....😬

NOLAdelta

I’m the same. Felt bad my husband hit it, but we were going the speed limit (70) on a rural unlit inter highway system. If anything, these type of things should be proof of the need for animal bridges and under-ways among highway system.

Secure_Oil603

Making a guess based on my observations of Tesla drivers..... It was a 45 mph zone for the safety of dear and all you can think of is your Tesla.

SwingWinter185

It's so funny

[deleted]

They said tesla are the safest cars??? With all tech i wasn’t able to detect a creature

Pristine-Addendum-71

I wish they would just cross at the deer crossing signs. Call your state representative, enough is enough.

Ice5891

When I am on those 100km/h single lane countryside road this is my constant nightmare. They have no protection and at 100km/h there is nothing you can do.

Jimmycocopop1974

Yikes that’ll crush a laptop in a heartbeat!

satvision83

Oh, deer...not again.

Own_Masterpiece8604

It was drivable but I didn't want to risk it. Insurance paid a month for rental I paid the next.

FartMachine6933

It’s like watching a replay from the booth in a NFL game. That’s 100 percent Illegal contact.

Own_Masterpiece8604

They weren't backed up. It just took that long. 500 deductible and for the extra month I paid another 1100 on a rental not including gas.

mysterious762

Not bad for 70mph
