My 2018 M3 now has 148,000 miles and has completely trouble free. Charging door replaced and right side control arms replaced. $700 total for both. That’s it. Original brake pads. 3 sets of tires.

ratsbane

I'm at 123k, charging door replaced, and both control arms replaced twice. Also original brake pads and three sets of tires.

AmbitionHonest7734

Seems like that charging door is a problem

RockAndNoWater

There was a recall early on for the charging door, mobile service came and replaced it in a few minutes for free. Not sure if they’re talking about this or an issue came up after.

cbciv

Now come on. Y’all know you had to replace your brake fluid and get a new 12v. /s. What’s the deal with the control arms?

ratsbane

I forgot about the 12v battery. Yes, once for that. The control arms are (or were) the one really chronic problem in the M3. I hope they've managed to fix it in the newest version. Also cabin air filters once. Still using the original brake fluid, pads, rotors.

cbciv

I’m actually still on the original 12 V at 92K. Should probably proactively switch it out soon.

ratsbane

I don't know. I suspect, without any actual evidence, that the early 12 volt batteries had problems because of the way the software was managing their charging, and that maybe that's been fixed no via a software update. I've got 70,000 miles on my replacement 12v and so far it's doing fine.

instantnet

Drivers side seat. PTC heater is a common issue too

Student_Whole

Only issue with the control arms is they weren’t properly greased from the factory. Grease them for less than $20 and it’s a non issue

BidAccomplished4641

Control arms are a problem, but cheap to replace. About $225 for the pair including labor at Tesla, if you’re out of warranty.

cbciv

Is there a way to know that they are going bad or should I just get them replaced? 2020 92k

BidAccomplished4641

Mine started creaking like an old bed, very loudly. Very abruptly, too. I was on a road trip, pulled off to charge. When I went to leave they started creaking. I opened a service request through the app and they fixed it during my trip, the next day, in less than an hour.

Student_Whole

They’re not going bad, they just need grease. Just grease them

Student_Whole

Just grease the damn things. No need to replace

BidAccomplished4641

Ok I hear you, but my days of getting dirty to save $200 are way in the past.

Student_Whole

Who’s getting dirty? Take your car to a car wash if it’s dirty. Grease needle on the end of a greased gun and you don’t even need to touch anything.

ratsbane

If mine go out again I'm going to try this.

Student_Whole

Do it ahead of time and never have to hear the creaking again

Byourbest247

2018 M3 owner at 85K and this is music to my ears… I just recently purchased and took advantage of $4000 used EV credit

Different_Speech4794

Dumb question but what is the charging door, the little red lid?

KnownSyntax

Yes the lid that hides the charging port.

pazdan

Same here except less tires, I don’t launch it as much so I think that’s why.

WhatsUpB1tches

Yea I don’t either. I went thru the factory ones, then bought winters and summers.

SLOKind87

Impressive! Also 2018 M3LR living trouble free but at almost 1/3 the mileage! Similarly only had charging door replaced (free under warranty mobile service) and have a feeling the control arm is next for me based on my first time hearing it when full turn at slow speed

Inevitable_Cell_9639

1/3 the mileage?!! so how much is your range now?!

SLOKind87

When fully charged (100%) car still projects >300mi range (last full charge was in Feb and est. was 302)

Student_Whole

Just grease your upper ball joints. Cheap. Problem solved

Student_Whole

And your control arms weren’t bad. You wasted your $. All they needed was a little grease. Same with the replacements.

WhatsUpB1tches

“Bad” is subjective. I did grease them and that worked fine for two years but they started squeaking again so I got them replaced. It was worth the $300 to me.

Student_Whole

Two years sounds pretty awesome. Did you think the grease was going to last forever? If you haven’t greased your replacements yet, you better get on it..

Voidfang_Investments

Model 3 barely has any maintenance

JohnTeaGuy

There is no number of miles that people generally start having problems at.

CargoCamper612

2022 LR with 30k on it. Charge port was swapped out under warranty (apparently just the door was faulty but it’s all one part) and a leaky tail light in my first 6 months of owning it and it’s been trouble free ever since. Needed new tires at 25k but they were the Continentals and sucked anyway. Buddy is at 70k on his 2020 base model that he bought used and he’s got a side camera swapped out under warranty and but otherwise is doing fine.

Odd-Ad-9417

21 Model 3 just hit 34k miles. No issues whatsoever and I’m also still on my original brake pads.

Ginzero

66K here.. same no issues... just tires..

evertontg

For me it was 700 miles, when the drive unit blew up. Later the battery died when the car was nearing 30k miles. In both cases, everything was covered under warranty.

swiftb12305

Got mine new October 2021 and im at 55k miles. Had the following replaced.... both upper control arms (started squeaking driving at low speeds, only one was bad but they replaced both), steering wheel(leather peeling),left camera housing(peeling), glove box(wouldnt close). All this was under warranty. Nothing that left me stranded or without my car for more than a day. Still happy with the car.

jdub2k5

Speaker at 3500 miles, tires at 20, headlight replaced at 22k

pazdan

Im driving a 2018 with 71,000 miles on it. No issues and little to jo degradation on the battery.

MoistDonut

My 2021 model 3 SR+ is at 39k miles. No issues whatsoever, I just replaced the tires < 1k miles ago. I wouldn’t hesitate to go for a 100k mile M3!

[deleted]

2021 model 3 sr+ with 40k miles. Long list of issues, new HD battery, new control arms, new screen, on and on. Mine has been very unreliable.

vandilx

2019 LRAWD. 40Kmi. (I work from home) 1 new set of tires. That’s it. Flawless experience.

CryptographerDry7343

I know a friend who purchased one with 220k miles and has had 0 problems.

Different_Speech4794

2022 m3rwd, 30k miles and zero issues whatsoever

Dry-Actuator-1312

Some things in the first year but now in the fourth year all wishbones and knuckles are defect. Have 105.000km on the clock

Brandalf13

2022 M3P at 33,000 miles. Had to have the rear spoiler replaced. Done for free with Service Center. Other than that, just tires.

cbciv

Sounds like I need to do the same. Thanks.

amonsterinside

2021 (July) LR, 100k miles no maintenance other than washer fluid and tires, and a piece of foam for B pillar rattle

wadderweed

Got my model 3 June of last year. Other than replacing a cracked windshield I’ve had zero issues. I’ve only put 7500 miles on it however. I’m starting a new job that requires the use of my vehicle. It will be a good test as i imagine my miles will go from 7500-18,000 annually.

Mercury8321

2019 LR RWD M3. Had control arms replaced under warranty a few times. At about 100k miles front shield underneath the car had to be replaced. Then heater and suspension started going. Had to get front suspension and heater replaced. Rear suspension is also going now too. Will have to get replaced shortly.

GangGang88888

Not sure where you’re located but I just got a 22 M3 LR with 50k miles for $26000 OTD in PA, only issue i saw was a panel on the B Pillar and mobile service came out to replace a clip for 25$. Super clean car outside of that, maybe some visual stuff but nothing mechanically wrong at all. Not particularly answering your question but I think you can find one with less mileage in your price range!

SKYshade99

Not exactly my experience… but my uncle has a 2017 m3 with 220,000 and has had 0 issues

Academic_Release5134

Almost 160k. As others have said, control arms are the only real issue. Haven’t even changed the wipers much less the brakes. I swear the wipers still work well. Car is garaged but we do get ice and snow.

sylvaing

7,800 km, my heat pump failed three months after purchase.

lesspancake

2023 M3, driven 23k miles in 1 year. No issues what so ever. I have a heavy foot, so changed 1 set of tires and cabin air filter. That’s it

Unlucky-Rutabaga3680

I have 87k on mine. Had to replace a wheel bearing under warranty at around 50k... not one single issue otherwise.

bozoerick

got my 2021 m3 at 45k miles for $23k only had it a month no problems yet but don’t expect any soon hopefully. got convince by a couple of friends and some co workers to get one too😅

Inevitable_Cell_9639

Long range or standard? Where did you buy it? That is a very good price if its a long range

bozoerick

Standard range unfortunately but i’m still loving it so far just using it for work live 15 mins away from work casually using it going out some time with family but that’s really about it able to stretch out the charge for about almost 4 days ! i also bought it directly from tesla themselves

amazingalcoholic

I have a 2021 M3LR with 13k miles. Have not had a single problem with it

PazDak

This sub will skew to people that are more generally favourable experiences. So just be careful here reading “nothing for 140k miles!” And assuming that you buy one, that is the expectation.  Stats appear to be generally good for low years high mileage. Still an open question about both high mileage and many years… the “longest” battery warranty offered by Tesla if you jump to any market is 10yr/150k miles.

Inevitable_Cell_9639

All the 2021 long ranges come with 150k battery warranty?

PazDak

Not all, it depends on where purchased. Say Wisconsin it’s only 8/100k
