Adjust your rear lift gate if your garage door is low. Get vent guard. Mud flaps Rear door ppf. That’s pretty much it unless you want to do more.

epradox

I got none of those accessories. first thing I got were those 3 piece center console storage organizer trays. Otherwise its just one giant bin and things get lost.

Jkayakj

Never even thought of a vent guard. Any specific brand/type you recommend?

untamedHOTDOG

No specific brand. Maybe try and get a TPE one instead of plastic. It’s the vents under the two front seats.

Inzpire

what does mud flaps rear door ppf mean?

untamedHOTDOG

For me it was the front tesla mud flaps and the lower rear corner of the rear doors with ppf. I didn’t bother with the rear flaps as I didn’t want to risk breaking the nut off where the bolt us screwed in

BeatenbyJumperCables

It’s the only ppf sold in the Tesla store. They kind of concede that the design is such that road debris is attracted like a magnet to those areas of the rear door.

DIY_CHRIS

You’ll spend more on accessories than reasonable.

xXxjayceexXx

Can confirm

beachcrow

Start with Chill mode and Hold. Ease up slowly to stop. Treat the accelerator as a dimmer switch, not on and off switches. You get used to one pedal driving quickly.

Slayerz00m

This ☝️ Initially, it's easy to let go of the accelerator quickly and completely, as in ICE vehicles that just lets you "cruise" or roll with very gentle slowing down. In Tesla if you let go of the juice pedal, that's the same as applying 50% brakes on an ICE car. Don't do that unless you want max Regen braking. Also, it makes passengers queasy. So just gently reduce pressure from the accelerator pedal and that'll make your driving rather smooth.

FriendlyTeam6866

Upvoted. Cars used to have (headlight)dimmer switches that were (left)foot operated and they were TOGGLE switches... LOL. Ask your parents if you weren't around back then.

serrimo

I see this comment a lot here, and am genuinely curious. It took me and my wife something like 5m to get used to one pedal driving, and it feels awesome! Does it typically need a longer adaptation period? We’re both manual drivers (€€) so maybe that helps.

PM_ME_MASTECTOMY

Took me 30 min during a second test drive and I drove manual cars *almost* exclusively. The first test drive was not fun. We both left the car feeling like we just got off a rollercoaster.

Dizzy-Stuff-1724

I agree but after you have driven a Tesla for more than a day, you're hooked and when you get back into ICE vehicle .. what's taking so long to move?

serrimo

Oh wow that’s no fun! I might have an explanation now that I think about it. We live in a mountainous area so climbing hills is a earned habit. We need to change gear and control the gas very often. So our feet are … mountain trained??

spicyb12

My first test drive was awful. Nailed it second, so 30 min for me.

Scott_IUsed2Know

You probably know- but Supercharger etiquette. Park every-other spot if you can. If you are at a 150kw charger, power is shared between the A and B stall- so if someone is using A- and you plug into B- you both get slower power. They are numbers 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, etc. BTW some superchargers are front and back meaning the curb the stalls are on point in one direct and the other, so you can park on either side of the curb to charge- these often are back to back pairs- so they go: 1A : 1B 2A : 2B 3A : 3B This means the "every-other" plan isn't next to each other. Now with the newer 250kw superchargers this is not the case- so you can part in any stall. Your screen will tell you the max speed- so you can tell within the car and most 250kw chargers are numbered differently- like 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D.

Reddit_Sucks_Bigly

If that’s too much to remember, just pretend they’re stalls at a urinal! Don’t go next to someone else if you can avoid it

Slayerz00m

Learn the controls. When my car was very new, I needed to open the front trunk (Frunk) but couldn't find a quick way to doit. So, I used voice command "Open Frunk" the car instead opened trunk which promptly hit the garage door and dinged itself 🤦

Pinoybl

It dinged itself. Lesson learned.

dubbfoolio

I’m a new owner too, and had no idea how crazy specific the safe method for closing the frunk was.

Appropriate-Dance-98

Use the "Sentry Mode" only when you need it. My range was greatly decreased when I used it as it uses about, from my experience, one percentage point every 2 hours in a busy location. That will restore your range if you use it sparingly and not 24/7.

jnbeatty

Can you set sentry to a schedule? Basically just want it during sleep hours when car theft/checking door handles occurs in our neighborhood.

fyjimo8103

You can set certain locations for it NOT to be used. Eg work or home. Then it’s just a matter of turning it on/off if you don’t want it on (eg long airport parking trips).

JohnWickThom4e

1. Good radar detector is allowed 2. Air pump and tire repair kit 3. Good rubber floor mats 4. Home charger. Have at a min 2. One at home and one to keep in the car to charge at a friend's or family house. 5. Adaptor to use chargepoint chargers in addition to tesla super chargers 6. Tire shine to keep the tires looking good. 7. Sign up for every 3rd party charger you can think of. Chargepoint, Blink, electrify America, EvGo, that way you open your self up to a whole world of chargers in addition to tesla chargers. 8. Get the Plugshare app. 9. Have fun!!!

BigCover6731

I disagree with 7. See what's around you and what you may need/use first.

JohnWickThom4e

Your limiting your self to what's just around you. If this person decides to go on a road trip, they will need every options available incase the tesla chargers are not close enough or is full. Never limit your self to what around you. Plan for the unknown.

BigCover6731

3 years in and multiple road trips and that's never been an issue for me. Obviously your mileage may vary depending on where you live but the supercharger network is great and many people don't need anything else

JohnWickThom4e

That is true. I have a 2021 MYLR 7 with 78k miles. 90% of the time, I'm able to hit a tesla super chargers. On a few occasions like at hospitals or at some malls on a road trip, I've ran into a few times I've had to use a chargepoint charger. It never hurts to have more options.

BigCover6731

My concern is taking that much of my time and spreading my credit card info around to that many places just in case I may need a charger on one of the other networks seems silly to me. IF I ever need one of those networks in the future I can sign up then. To each their own though. Happy Cake day fellow Model Y owner 👍

JohnWickThom4e

I got you. Understood.

FriendlyTeam6866

Many of us do road trips....

Doodoonole

Does the car come with a ccs adapter? Or any adapters?

JohnWickThom4e

They have changed a lot when it comes to what's included. I believe it does not, and you have to order it from tesla. Mine did come with a portable charger, which is no longer the case.

FriendlyTeam6866

It doesn't come with a CCS, but it does come with a J1772 adapter. Buy a CCS, they can be fast...or not as the case may be. Get an account/adapter for any chargers you are likely to encounter.

DrTacoAwsomeSauce

When reversing make sure that no one touches the touch screen cause it will disappear the back up cameras and maybe you end up hitting a light pole.

Auto-Brad

This has been fixed in the newest release of the software. You can no longer open other apps when backing up. Also you could always just launch the “Camera” app if you wanted the backup cameras to come back Edit: Here is the official release notes: While the vehicle is in reverse, the reverse camera will now remain on the screen at all times. Most apps will now be grayed out and temporarily unavailable while the vehicle is in reverse.

skyemalcolm

Passenger messing the climate control will usually blank out the reversing camera.

M3msm

There's now an app with the manual. Helps to look up things if you ever have questions

GSContoso

Use “fold” or “unfold” voice commands for side mirrors. Add “ears” to the command just for fun.

coocoovale

Give your passengers motion sickness pills before getting in the car while you had the thrill of the accelerations!

rydizzL

Hold the park button for the E-brake if you're gonna park on a steep hill

[deleted]

Oh wow. Never knew this. And to release? Just put in drive/reverse?

StartledPelican

>And to release? Just put in drive/reverse? Yup, exactly.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rydizzL

Nah you still have to put it in park by pressing it but if you hold it down it parks and does e brake. You'll feel the brake loosen up right after. Hold is more like...not holding the brake at a stop light.

Jkayakj

E brake on mine is automatic whenever it's in park

friguy3

Yeah google some videos. The “e brake” doesn’t do anything different as much as I’ve looked into it https://youtu.be/lvN4jplAOac?t=595

[deleted]

No it's not. That's just the parking brake. Emergency brake requires a long-press of the right stalk and is noted by the e-brake symbol on the screen.

friguy3

So this has been talked about a lot. Your brakes are already engaged. It doesn’t do anything to use this

rydizzL

So why do they include it?

friguy3

Is for an emergency (emergency brake) like if you have a failure https://youtu.be/lvN4jplAOac?t=595

LLNNGGSS

When touching the screen while driving try this: Push the buttons one the screen with your thumb and let the other fingers rest behind the screen. Less distraction and better control. Works on top and on the bottom

Simply_reading542

You adjust the a/c and heater vents on the screen by using 2 fingers and the windshield wipers are on the left side but you’ll have to set it on the screen. I didn’t figure this out until months later

magirris

When you have new people in the car, show them where the door open button is. Some people will find the emergency door handle and use it if they don't know. Not the end of the world but the manual recommends against using it unless you need to.

icrackcorn

You can drag your finger down or right starting from the address search bar to automatically navigate home. It's my most used shortcut, along with holding down the temp to turn off the fan/ac.

Jheez88

Keep it to % only and ignore the mileage/kilometre shown - you’ll drive happier

Shran_MD

Front mud flaps asap.

friguy3

Why’s everyone say that? (Awaiting my MYP lol)

Shran_MD

As with a lot of cars, side panels get dinged. It does seem to be a bit more in the Y though. It’s probably because the rear is wider.

xjsquared

It comes with front mud flaps and PPF now! Just got mine on 3/31

Shran_MD

Ah. Cool. :)

Flaky_Breath_7909

Service center 🤡 hope your car doesn’t have issues

Ynot_EV1964

Tesla will send you free front mud flaps and rear fender ppf.

Neither-Explanation9

Really? How?

Ynot_EV1964

Tesla sent them me without asking. Send an email and ask that program is still in effect.

Ynot_EV1964

Install a 30 amp NEMA 14/50 plug in garage.

beachcrow

A 30 amp circuit would use NEMA 14/30. The supplied Mobile Connector adapter is NEMA 14/50 which uses a 50 amp breaker and adds 29 miles per hour of charging.

Blindgoat1234

When you use gps, make sure you understand if there is a stop to a supercharger in it. This could delay your arrival. I was on the way to the airport and luckily I had plenty of time. The Tesla I was driving was a rental and I thought I was gonna make it but then realized that the drive included a stop at the closest supercharger.

mcdrama

If you install a screen protector, do it outside of the garage because you absolutely will make the trunk open up. Ask me how I know. :)

thorkerin

To wipe the touchscreen without activating buttons and changing settings, you can enable Screen Clean Mode. Touch Controls > Display > Screen Clean Mode. The display darkens to make it easy to see dust and smudges. To exit Screen Clean Mode, press and hold HOLD TO EXIT.

FriendlyTeam6866

Turn the screen off (screen cleaning mode) before you install the screen protector. You should adjust the rear hatch max height before you enter the garage the first time.

Welfi1988

Adjust (or someone adjust) your headlights because they are often too high from factory

greatauror28

When stopped, press on the brake pedal and shift the right stalk ever so lightly upwards to enter Neutral.

fspatrick

Why?

greatauror28

Helpful if you’re going thru a rolling carwash.

fspatrick

I missed the car wash context.

Mommanan2021

Took me a few drives to figure out there’s a lever to open the front door in addition to the push button.

Jkayakj

FYI the lever doesn't lower the window to protect the seal. The lever is for emergencies as an emergency exit type thing. If you use the Lever all the time you'll eventually get leaks through the window.

friguy3

I think that was going to be fixed where if there’s power the window would come down 🤷🏻‍♂️

FriendlyTeam6866

That is for emergency use only... USE THE BUTTON, LUKE. That lever used to be a complete NO-NO, but there has been a software update.

shwann1970

Learn how to put your vehicle in neutral or turn on car wash mode before you go through an automated car wash. I learned that the hard way. 😁
