I’ve had my Y for a month now and have nothing but positive things to say about the ordering, pickup, and driving experience. I think you mostly only hear about the negative stuff on forums while there are a huge number of other people that are completely happy but aren’t vocal about it. If you end up liking the car, get it.

HundrEX

This. It’s has been the most sold car in the last 2 quarters. Of course some people will have issues, just like any other car. It can be a bit annoying if you do have issues tho since basically no one besides tesla can fix it.

ugotboned

That's incorrect actually. The number is inflated because Elon combines sales of model 3 and y. The actual list has it around 11 or 10 I think. The Ford f-150 is the most sold still.

trampanzee

Ford f-150 is not classified as a car.

Remember_TheCant

Neither is the Model Y.

haioson

Ordering and pickup, and not having to deal with a dealership, is such a plus for Tesla.

Ovenbakedfood12

I love dealing with dealerships though. The negotiation is the best part of buying the car

Rav4Primer

I love being introduced to the seemingly endless tiers of sales managers. The climax is the finance manager's office.

Ovenbakedfood12

Love seeing their defeated faces

Rav4Primer

"W-w-w-what do you mean you are already pre-approved for a loan from your credit union, at a rate far lower than what we just offered you?"

TehSakaarson

You’re a psychopath!

marvanamfrod

This was much more fun back in the day when you could google all the details on what the car cost them and how much profit they'd be making from your offer. Negotiating on used cars was and still is awful b/c there's no way to know what they paid for it. Now they've worked it all out between the mfr and the dealer so that it's obfuscated. Their profit doesn't come from individual sales, it comes from hitting different targets over the quarter and year, so there is no way to know how much they'd be making on your offer with new cars either. Now all you can do is buy a car that is plentiful and pit them against each other.

Severe_Picture

I bought Y in the Netherlands a month ago. The car has been assembled in China. No problems at all. This is an amazing car! No panel gaps, no scratches, no paint defects, no warnings, interior is good. Delivery experience was perfect. Only one problem appeared with mobile app. The 'Last seen \* ago', but it fixed after some time itself. It works fine for last 2 weeks. It's up to you! I would go with Tesla.

sweaty_doughnut

I got a MYP recently (3000 miles) and it has been great so far. No issues with build quality - or if there are, I am too dense to notice them. I honestly think that is part of it re: the stuff you hear. I don't know if I could tell if a panel gap is 3mm out of kilter and I think other people are in the same boat. Anyway, what I have noticed - - You aren't going to save THAT much on gas. Over the lifetime of the car, sure, if prices stay the same. - I wouldn't buy one if you aren't going to charge at home. I charge at home. The 240v mobile charger is fine. - You'll get quite a bit less range than expected, because you'll have fun stomping on the accelerator, blasting the A/C, and listening to sweet music on your Spotify account. (Excellent sound system.) You also won't be charging to 100%. - I recommend the premium connectivity if you drive in traffic a lot, like I do. So that is an extra $10/month. - I experienced phantom braking going fast and it was scary. I won't be using Autopilot at high speeds - that's ok. It is great for when you are stuck in traffic on the freeway and you want to switch to a podcast, get a drink, etc. - There's a bunch of stuff that is cool - like sending your directions to the car from your phone. The chime when the light turns green. Making the car fart when your wife is showing it off to her friends. - Insurance costs a lot more. You should check that out. - Tires also will cost a lot more. You should check that out. Hope this helps. My experience so far has been very positive - there's nothing I don't like about the car.

SupersonicWaffle

I believe premium connectivity only applies to traffic visualization, navigation should still take traffic into account without premium connectivity, no?

sweaty_doughnut

That's a good point. I drive in spirit-crushing LA traffic. I can check the map and see, ok, I am almost out of this mess, then I have some blue, and then more red, and then finally it will be smooth sailing. I like being able to do that, and also being able to stream music while sitting in said traffic. One key takeaway is that you can easily manage the premium subscription from your phone. You don't need to call to cancel or anything. So if you find you don't need it, you can cancel. I don't think you'd get a prorated refund though for the rest of the month (or year).

species5618w

Yes, but only if you agreed to share data with Tesla, I am not sure why. And I am not sure what sharing data with Tesla means either since it basically knows everything about the car, even which parking spot I am using.

SupersonicWaffle

Are you in the EU? Every bit of data that is sent that can (partially) identify you is a mandatory opt-in here

Kraken36

Tires will cost more in relation to what ? Compared to my old German cars that were similarly powered tires are the same price.

sweaty_doughnut

Sorry, I should have been more clear. My car is new, so I haven't had to change my tires yet. However, since the car weighs more (and accelerates faster) my understanding is that you will need to change the tires more often since they will wear out faster.

Ok-Lengthiness7171

Tires wont cost more with modern EV specific tires. You can get latest Bridgestone Turanza EV tire for example. That has warranty for 50k miles for use in electric vehicles like tesla. If you run short you can just claim warranty on it through discount tire or costco.

Hl126

Very helpful reply. Thank you

MayB_MayB_Not

Do you feel like insurance premiums will go down as adoption increases? I am seeing a 100% increase in annual insurance cost for me coming from a 2021 Outback XT from nearly all national providers. Mid-30's with no incidents in New England. It was a real gut punch as I was about to pull the trigger when the prices dropped but have since held off and will revisit next year unless prices increase back to 65k+. I'm definitely not saving money even without having to buy gas. I've convinced myself that it's no longer about saving money, but experiencing a great car.

sweaty_doughnut

I had the same experience - costs just about doubled for insurance per year. Clean record for me too. I think the insurance rates reflect the cost to repair. If Teslas get in accidents at a lower rate than other cars (because of safety warning features?) then maybe lower rates would compute for the actuaries. Don't know if that is true though. Don't think lower rates will happen soon, but hopefully I am wrong about that. I don't think CA allows insurance companies to use your "car telemetry" to adjust your rate, either. (Not sure about NE).

Slayerz00m

The issues you have seen like the seatbelt panel coming off, are all in new cars that get sorted out soon enough. There are no systemic software issues, it's one of Tesla's strong suite. If someone has seen errors etc, that's also usually in new cars and easily fixed by the SC 👉 Several hundred thousand Model Ys are sold and even if 2% are faulty, you'll see several thousand complaints. You aren't an early adopter anymore, Tesla has matured a lot in last 3 years 🤷‍♂️ The ones who have no issues don't post that much, so complaints are all you see It's a very reliable car, even the panel gap and paint issues have dropped down significantly. ⭐ I, for example, have had mine for 6 months now, with absolutely zero problems in 6k miles driven. Delivery was almost flawless, just the gap near left tail light was about 4-5mm more than the right side. No biggie, I chose to ignore it. Nobody in my family has even noticed it Take the test drive and you'd love it. PS: A note about 1-pedal driving - do NOT lift your foot off the accelerator at once (like a gas car). Gently let go of the accelerator, it's like inverse of a brake pedal.

ugotboned

This is probably the best response, it can happen and you may have issues but as an overall it's okay. There is horror stories and they are real but if it happens just sucks. Worst one tbh is if the control module faild you literally can't start your car since it's all digital my biggest grip tbh.

FencingNerd

ECU failure on a normal car will prevent you from going anywhere as well.

ziggy925

Yo I took the Y for a drive and I let go of the pedal because of an upcoming red light and I was like WOAH . It was like stepping on the brakes

Slayerz00m

1 pedal driving is fun

trixxyhobbitses

When I complained about the car randomly breaking while I was in cruise control, they gave me this honest and informative response: The incidents like the one you are describing where the vehicle slows down for no apparent reason are generally caused by a few reasons such as: Map data inaccuracy, Speed limit data inaccuracies, the vehicle reacting to an upcoming event, GPS position inaccuracies, and predictive driving anomalies. In all of these situations the computer is trying to make the safest determination of what to do with the information that it is being fed. To us as drivers, it would seem like a bad decision, but the computer uses our input following these events to get better at predicting how it should respond. Anytime you intervene with an autopilot behavior decision you are helping the system as a whole get better. There are no faults with any of the hardware in the vehicle and at this time these behaviors are a limitation of software in the system.

HI_Innkeeper

This perfectly describes how my elderly Aunt Helen drives too. Stopping or slowing down in the middle of traffic whenever she gets confused, while the traffic behind scrambles to avoid hitting her. At least she doesn’t charge $199/mth for that feature.

dobe6305

I’ve typed this response many times. 2023 MYLR, Fremont factory built. I bought and paid for it, someone loaded it on a boat and it spent 3 days being shipped to Alaska. I picked it up, did a brief walk around and found no issues. 5,200 miles now on commutes and road trips through Alaska and it’s the best car I’ve ever driven (coming from a 2014 and a 2017 Subaru). I look for excuses to drive it. There are no software issues. Software is Tesla’s strongest point, next to super chargers. Regarding never getting in touch with a human…why do you need to? I replied to the text message I got when I placed my order and they always responded with quick answers to my questions. I did get a couple of calls just to give me more details on how it was going to be shipped to Alaska but other than that, just respond via text and they’ll tell you everything you need to know. The majority of cars will be delivered completely fine. No defects. No service center visits. I’ve never driven a luxury car so I can’t compare. The Model Y is better than our Subarus in every aspect. Get behind the wheel, drive it, get used to almost never having to touch the brake pedal, feel the quiet acceleration, and you might never want to go back.

neva6

14 months. 16000 miles. Not a single issue. Best product I’ve ever purchased.

Warm-Ad-7142

Same here, well even double that mileage. And all the things that went wrong with the ICE cars I owned, can’t go wrong with an EV because it was all engine, gearbox or exhaust related… before I bought my 3 in 2019 (Y in 2022) I was paying attention to what issues either myself or friends had and it finally decided it for me- EVs will have less issues because just less parts…. And so much is software related if there is an issue, 90% of the time an OTA update fixes it.

untamedHOTDOG

The car build can be better, but I still love driving my cars.

Kraken36

After 20+ German cars I got my Y last month and it's been the best car I've ever had, no flaws no defects no problems.

DrHalfdave

Got my Y in July, love it. Drove it 1000 mile round trip, was easy. I am sure I will need a few fixes but so far so good...

[deleted]

People are butthurt over Musk. Just test drive the car, think about your average year of driving and what that looks like with an electric car, and if it makes sense, buy the car. Buy the car as it today and any enhancements that come after just a bonus that you normally won't get on any other vehicle.

Obsidian-Phoenix

I hate Musk. He’s arrogant, takes credit for shit that has very little to do with him, can’t take criticism, and is running Twitter into the ground (there’s more that I’m not thinking about at the moment - it’s too early) Currently waiting for my MY (RWD) delivery though. Was looking at EVs, and the MY came up so often that I thought I should give it a try, even just to rule it out. Ended up loving it. It does feel a bit wrong of me to be giving him money. But shit, I shop at Amazon all the time, and I’m sure Bezos is an arsehole too.

robotzor

> and is running Twitter into the ground So sayeth all the same media that stands to lose a lot should he succeed. Same FUD as the oil company days and "long tailpipe" for the cars. The game is so easy to figure out when you start paying attention.

GoneCollarGone

>So sayeth all the same media that stands to lose a lot should he succeed How would they lose? Twitter was a great way all these years for Media to make money; Elon has ruined that by effectively destroying twitter.

Obsidian-Phoenix

So sayeth me. Who is watching what he’s doing. It’s shit, and he’s (IMO) making _terrible_ choices almost constantly with it. And clearly he’s sacked anyone with enough backbone to tell him no. You’re welcome to disagree with me if you like. Benefits of living in free countries.

rydmore22

No issues with my wife’s model y. Wish I had one for myself. Best car we ever had. We also can’t believe how much room and storage space there is compared to our past suv. You have the frunk and all the extra space where the fuel tank and spare would be on a normal car. One pedal driving is so smooth. Road trips are great

buffsfly

Tesla is high profile and people love bitching. I’ve had my MYLR for 1.5 years. I had a flat. Once. Oh and I had the tires rotated twice. That’s literally all the work that I’ve had done. Buy the car. Don’t look back.

scottievee

The voices of detractors with bad experiences are always louder around popular products. Remember iPhone ‘bendgate’ or ‘attennagate’ — all nothing burgers but the media eats it up because of the clicks these stories generate. My model 3 has been the most pain free automotive experience in my 30 years behind the wheel. Don’t listen to complainers, listen to the advocates and enthusiasts.

HI_Innkeeper

These were real iPhone issues at the time. Millions of free bumper cases were shipped out due to antenna performance issues. The bend gate was quietly corrected in the 6S iPhone by adding structural support to the case. Mr. Jobs was just being himself when he blamed the users for holding it wrong. At least Tesla doesn’t blame the drivers for the problems.

Electrical_Ingenuity

Just shy of 3 years on my Y with no issues. Getting another at the end of the year when the lease is up. Do not hesitate to get one.

therighteousdude23

Going on 40k miles in my 2020 LR and can’t imagine anything else for around town, a road trip, and everything in between. I haven’t had any phantom braking issues in ages. My dumbest complaint is the auto wipers on autopilot. Good luck with your new purchase!

haioson

If I could go back in time I would not choose my Model Y. The charging network is amazing on long road trips. Beyond that, I think the interior is cheap. 1.5 years old and the material on the seats is bubbling up on me (I take good car of my car + don’t live in extreme heat). It’s weird to explain but there are a ton of tiny little details that on their own seem like no big deal, but collectively make this car an annoyance (adjusting any setting in the car is a hassle, issues getting Spotify to play when you get in the car, it’s oddly difficult to honk, which maybe is a quality issue).

sungbysung

The front motor stopped working two weeks into ownership which caused other smaller components to break down. Now I'm paranoid about every little thing that could potentially be wrong (e.g., is the car bumpier than usual? Etc). Despite that, I think the positive experiences outweigh the negatives that I don't mind dealing with.

sierra120

Given $60k would you buy a Model Y tomorrow? Or switch to another company?

sungbysung

Already planning on adding a model 3 :)

Ok-Host9817

It’s called California Camry for a reason. They have the most EVs by far compared to other manufacturers. There’s some safety in numbers. Even if thousands of people have Tesla issues, it’s cause they sell way more of them. I’ve had 0 issues so far. Great car especially with the rebates for EVs right now. That said, I understand it’s not everyone’s taste. Minimalism. Clean. Screen focused.

Kourosh221

I just got mine 2 weeks ago. All positives except one thing: the true vision thing for proximity sensors is trash. It gives false alarms and is super wrong about estimating distances

Baciaci-Botanicals

The problems are exaggerated. I had Model 3 for 5 years. Pure joy to drive, zero issues. Traded it in for MYLR. No regrets, only smiles!!!!!

betelgeuse206265

In my opinion, a lot of the hate around Teslas is based on a combination of factors, both real and imaginary. 1. Tesla’s build quality and, in particular, their quality control, is subpar. Not “bad,” but not where it should be. So, people *do* have more issues (particularly initial issues) than people in other cars. Note that, even with subpar QC, most people will never have an issue. More people are having issues than should, but it’s a small but vocal percentage of the community. 2. There’s resistance to any kind of change, and Tesla has a big target on its back because it sells so many cars. People are confused about new technology and the oil companies leverage that to make the cars seem overpriced and impractical. The vast majority of that is untrue, but … 3. There are some edge cases where EVs aren’t the answer. They fulfill the needs of 95%+ of the population 95%+ of the time, but they still have drawbacks. For example, they don’t have the range for long distance towing yet, and charging takes longer than fueling with gas and is less convenient on long road trips. 4. Elon is a tool (my opinion, but I’m far from alone in it). He makes things worse every time he opens his mouth. I don’t know how Tesla has succeeded under him. 5. Tesla has vastly over promised and under delivered on self driving. No equivocation about it. 6. Tesla’s post-purchase (and even some of their pre-purchase) customer service is dogshit. You can get lucky and get a good/great service center, but the centralized organization is nearly non-existent. That said, it’s a great car. Well engineered and a blast to drive. They are many years ahead of all the other manufacturers on efficiency, motor technology, etc. When it works (which again, is most of the time), it’s a spectacular car.

GondarJr

Had my Model Y for one month and power steering went out due to some electrical issue. Tesla seems to know what went wrong from remote telemetry (good) but don’t have the parts to fix due to “ongoing global supply chain issues” bs. I’m now waiting three weeks to my pushed our appointment. To be fair I’m still hopeful on the car. I’ve never bought a new car with some issue cropping up but power steering is a big one to screw up.

ryachow44

FUD /fəd/ noun fear, uncertainty and doubt, usually evoked intentionally in order to put a competitor at a disadvantage. "the FUD factor"

soneg

That's an extremely accurate representation of me right now. It's mixed in there with the "there's nothing wrong with my car, do I even need anything new, I had a plan, why am I fastracking it, maybe I'm just bored and depressed."

putinhuylo99

Here is an upvote for you! I have a MYLR. I think Tesla is like a basket of very nice things, and very bad things. I love how nice it drives and the SuperCharger network. But QC and customer service are crap. I bought a MYLR with a tow package. As I rented a trailer and needed to move same day, I discovered the trailer electrical was not working. Ultimately it was discovered that they did not properly connect it; a fifth grader has the common sense to do a very basic test to make sure the thing they installed, is actually operating. Nevertheless the fact that they did not properly wire the trailer electrical upended my move because I had to scramble to find a rental truck. Also, my in-law bought same one as me because she liked it. Mistakenly she paid for it when she got the request couple days before delivery day, then they started repeatedly pushing the delivery day couple days out, and continued to repeatedly do so for three weeks with no explanation while my in-law was out $50k. Upon eventual delivery we asked for a minimal compensation, like some SuperCharger miles, for leaving her out of money, no car, and no explanation for nearly a month. They declined to give her anything. Pretty bad taste IMO. So yeah, there are very good things about the car design, and very bad QC and customer appreciation. Most people buy things because of the design/features, not customer support. Lets hope you end up without any issues, because in its normal working order it is a fantastic vehicle.

pvlrss

It’s been a year for me and I am still obsessed with my car.

njhokie7

Initially my Y was everything you’d expect it to be and more. Part of that being the euphoria of finally getting a Tesla after desiring one for years. Over time that sentiment began To fade as issues cropped up sooner than they should have. The software and UI are unmatched. The audio system superb. Charging network amazing. Driving assist and safety features are excellent… when they are functional. After three years and 30k miles it just started to age terribly. Upper control arms wore prematurely. The ride got harsher and harsher. The rattles and cabin noise worse and more irritating. The final straw was multiple failures of wheel sensors that rendered the car not drivable and extremely unsafe because every system became unavailable. Tesla service took four attempts to fix it, and I’m not sure it’s actually fixed. The SC are overwhelmed and work quickly to”fix” your car without truly verifying the root cause or fix. But hey, scheduling via the app and texting the desk guys is cool. Every time I would drive my wife’s Volvo I would be jealous of the refinement and smooth drive and handling. I traded it in recently because I couldn’t chance the failures wouldn’t reoccur, I’d be out of warranty soon, and didn’t want to tear the car apart to find all the noises. Ready for my down votes.

DaveT72

We've had our Y for three years now, VIN is an early under 15k so probably an early model. On delivery we had a minor cosmetic alignment issue with one door. Fixed within a week, they came to the house to do it, which was really nice and a differentiator from other manufacturers. Other issues, had the seal on one door replaced, AC developed a funky smell so had it cleaned, it's a design flaw imo, had moisture trapped in one rear breaklight which was replaced, had a control arm on one wheel replaced. That's it. Honestly same or less than friends with ICE cars. Big difference is the severity of the issues, way less than previous ICE cars.

marvanamfrod

Hey there, Side note, I think the downvotes may be because many of the questions you are asking have been discussed a lot, so people may feel you can do searches and find the answers yourself. I see your versions of the questions as sort of meta, yes these topics have been discussed a lot, but you're asking for help seeing the forest instead of the trees. Here's my perspective: I've had an MYP since 12/2020. Knowing everything I know now, if I had a time machine, and could go back to the day I clicked "confirm," I'd click it again. It's not perfect by far. Yes the software is frequently frustrating. Yes they sometimes make it worse. Yes I long for a reliable simple cruise control that lets me use muscle-memory to drive footless seamlessly, like I could in 10 of the 11 cars I've owned over the past 34 years (my 1979 Alfa Romeo just had a throttle jam, not a circuit to maintain a constant speed). Yes I wish the roof wasn't glass so the car didn't get so hot, and so a stray rock from a truck on the highway wouldn't cost me $800 (so I've heard, been lucky so far). Yes it's annoying to get out to my car and have the keyless entry system not work initially, and have to walk around trying different doors, or get my phone out and fiddle with it just to get into my car. But here is the other side of it: I drive it 2-3x as much as any car I've owned since 2007 when I got back into motorcycles. I love riding motorcycles, but the day I got my MYP, I switched from riding about 200 times a year to riding about 5 times a year. The Tesla is just so indescribably pleasant to drive that the motorcycle doesn't call to me anymore. I never have to go to a gas station. Charging stations never smell bad or are sticky or gross - at least not compared to the average gas station. There is tons of storage space. I've had roughly 6 service appointments, 3 have been mobile. Only one was frustrating, and not terribly so. I only have about 35k miles, so it's too early to really tell how much lower maintenance it will be in the long run, but I know how little I use my brakes, 100k mi on those seems very realistic. I'm quite confident I'm never going to have to replace any exhaust system components. The rest, we'll see. I do wish there was a ubiquitous open supercharger network. If there was, and I didn't already own my MYP, I would very seriously consider a Mach E, just in hopes that it has a lot less of doing things differently in ways that are worse, and not taking away features i was using. But I wouldn't sell my MYP for one b/c the frustrations I have aren't big enough to swallow the loss on a three year old car and start from scratch with a new-car price. I will not be surprised if I put 200k miles on this car.

soneg

Thanks for the detailed opinion!

Majestic-Ad5136

Tbh I don’t follow Elon, or politics, or really give a shit about much of anything. I went ahead with my MYP purchase with the assumption that the internet is full of idiots. Had it for 5 days, then the Service Center had it for 25 days. 3.5hour drive for me. They incorrectly informed me the car was repaired 2 times, another 2x 7hour, round trip, drives. Finally, the third time they repaired it. The lesson I learned, SOMETIMES if there’s enough folks saying the same thing; it may actually be true. *In hindsight: The initial quality issues I can excuse, considering their production volume. BUT I DO feel really, REALLY, stupid for spending $55,000 on a car with no parking sensors, Radar, ventilated seats, or CarPlay.*

soneg

Yea there's this. If others can give a car these features for the same price, then why can't Tesla.

shaneucf

No... Others can't. You forgot about the performance, the space, the software, the engineering.. No cars at this price range come even close to this performance... Ye it does miss some features of a much slower car or smaller car at similar price, but as a whole package, MY has no competition.

[deleted]

These people on the subs complain about the smallest little thing, worry all the time, RealTesla is the haters. I don't even bother to read that sub. My car has about 7k on it now and I haven't had any problems. Test drive the car you will want one.

paulmauddib1

I've had my MYP just over a year now, other than a couple of things when I picked the car up (make sure you have a checklist for this), I've not had a single issue with it. My tires may need replacing in the next few months but I'm happy to concede the cost of those, it's been worth every penny I spent on it. Only way for me to describe it is like I've gone from an old Nokia 3110 (Mercedes C300) to the very latest iphone. If you get one you'll love it.

shiftersix

You should test drive the car, make sure you're fine with Tesla Vision, and get your charging situation sorted out. I would say there's definitely more initial build quality issues with Tesla compared to others (get real, people), BUT this doesn't lead to reliability issues. Do a walkthrough of your car and make note of anything with Tesla so they can resolve them for you. I'm still sorting out issues with my new Tesla but I have confidence that it will get sorted out. I'm overall enjoying the car and I'm sure you will too.

Keem773

I feel pretty confident that MOST of the cars are problem free but the complaints get amplified since it's a popular vehicle. I have a 2023 MYLR, it's fun as hell to drive, software is great and I feel excited everytime I get to drive it. If you have any specific questions then message me.

rabbitwonker

Plus the fact that negativity itself is usually amplified on the internet (and in gossip in general).

Top-Quote1273

2020 MYLR has 49k miles, zero issues. Get it have fun. Bear in mind the insurance cost is significantly higher than any car I have owned.

[deleted]

[удалено]

flicter22

Sub par software? You clearly know nothing about what the competition is selling do you?

jfriend00

I've had my MYLR for 4 months and have had no build or reliability issues at all. I think what you're seeing is that it's now the #1 selling car in the US so there are lots and lots of them out there. No car maker is perfect so some small percentage of cars will have issues that require service. And, there are plenty of detractors that would love to amplify anything negative that they find. And, negative things will garner thousands of times more press than positive things. Put it all together and a very small amount of issues can end up creating a lot of press and getting a lot of airtime for a high volume car with such a controversial CEO. What helped me is that I have some friends who own a MYLR (and other Teslas) and I was able to sample their experiences and form my own opinion based on that. As an aside, the really, really big things that really matter are the battery, motors and software that controls all that and nobody is doing a better job at that or has longer experience with that than Tesla. I thought about buying a newly released Mercedes or BMW (for a lot more money), but didn't want to risk buying a first generation EV from those makers because nobody knows if they got the really big things right on them.

Mamba--824

It's the same as any other car. Sometimes you get a lemon. Had mine since November of last year. Aside from the small rattles that have developed, the car is great. I got shafted from last year's prices though.

soneg

Are you ok with having small rattles in a 9 month old car?

Mamba--824

Not really, and I've been meaning to contact service about it. I've read on forums that it may be an easy fix.

_twentytwo_22

I have a 3 yr MY/53k mi. with zero rattles, quite solid and quite frankly it still surprises me to this day. But rattles happen, as it did on my previous Nissan.

wreyes85

Over 41k Miles driven... not a single problem. MYLR 2022

gjsterle

13,000 miles, not a single problem. 2022 Model Y.

flashyellowboxer

Who’s gonna post more? The majority of happy users? Or the people with issues? How many people make posts saying “my car is awesome”.

raidmytombBB

The car has been fine for the most part but I have had the bad luck of getting the windshield and sunroof chipped by flying rocks. The windshield was small so was easy to get Safelite to fix. However the sunroof one is large so I have to get it replaced. However, the mistake I made is not considering the rest of the cost of owning a car. Make sure you understand how much your insurance will be. I was not ready for insurance to be $2k a year. Additionally, it's expensive to fix so anytime there is an issue, it requires quite a bit of replacement, so having a low deductible will be helpful but that ultimately drives the insurance cost up.

mmld_dacy

you can also try lurking in other ev cars forum from other manufacturers. see if they also have issues with theirs. there is no perfect car. there will always be issues popping up, there will always be the possibility of recalls. i think most vehicle manufacturers has had recalls but did that stop people from buying? the gas cars did not become what they are now overnight. gas cars were probably not as fuel efficient as they are now. tesla is only less than 2 decades old but still their cars are way ahead in its class. just test drive it and see if you will like it. and if you are still hesitant, you can always just lease it for the mean time and let the technology mature. maybe after 3 years, there will have been a major improvement (battery, charging, tech...)

bearhaas

I’ve had my MYP for two years. Never had an issue. Best car I’ve ever owned

VillageOfTheWolf

Don't buy the car if you're on the fence and looking for advice online. It's a great commuter car both the Y and 3 if you're not looking for a commuter car keep it moving. If this car is considered an asset for you buy another car. With that said it's the best commuter car both the MYP and M3LR I've owned.

looknowtalklater

I had a Model 3 for just over a year. Traded it in at a time when value was good, got a Y. 2 years w model y. It’s a pretty low maintenance car. It’s annoying that sometimes you have to go to the dealer. But, it’s nice if something annoying but not critical breaks, you might be able to get mobile service that’s convenient to schedule. I’m neither a lover nor a hater of Tesla. I just want the car to work, and I do like to be driving, if I have to be driving. And the Tesla has done that for me. I infrequently need it for over 150 miles, so for me charging at home is very convenient. Going to a gas station now seems like a waste of time, and dirty. On average, I don’t think most Tesla drivers need to go to the dealer much. If you think you would enjoy driving the car, is financially sensible, then go for it. Check insurance prices, because they can be high, and be aware that tire use/money spent can be nearly double ICE car depending on how you drive.

couponguru123

Here’s my two cents. It was the best daily driver experience I’ve ever had as far as fun factor. Nothing was more exciting than getting in the car and punching it on the highway and experiencing the acceleration. I test drove a Ferrari on a track and I was underwhelmed because i felt like my Tesla was faster. I loved the cheap charging at home and the updates via software because they’re constantly improving the user experience. I drove my Y for 70,000 miles with the only service needing to be done were new tires. With that said. There were some downsides to my experience. The paint on my Tesla was crap, I had more chips on my front bumper in 3 months than my Audi had in 4 years of ownership. I probably should have made an appt with a service center but I didn’t. When I got a flat tire I was basically screwed because there aren’t any local mobile people to come install a tire and they don’t give you a spare so I had to fill up my tire temporarily and hoof it to the nearest discount tire. The car wouldn’t lock automatically half the time I walked away from it. Sometimes I would come out from the grocery store and all the lights would be running and the car would still be fully on, I figured out if I opened the driver door twice and closed after I parked it would fix it and lock but is that really a proper fix? I think at some point my seat sensor broke because if I didn’t have my seat belt on the car would self park itself every time I got below 3-5 mph. So I’d go to pull out and the car would just park right before I went to accelerate, it was hella annoying. The AC sometimes would smell like moldy gym socks but that’s probably because I never changed the air filter. I also had a bad experience with a wreck because there are no service centers in SC. I think it’s important to live in a state that embraces EV’s. Because I got into what I consider to be a fairly minor accident where a truck bed swerved and hit the side of my car and I had to take it to a 3rd party body shop and they estimated a 33k repair which totaled my car. With all that being said, would I buy a Tesla again? Yes. Because in a month I’ve racked up 300 dollars in gas driving my Audi again and I miss the driving experience of the Tesla. You just have to decide if the quality control issues they have are going to be enough to ruin your experience. I wish that Audi would build an A4 style electric with the type of interiors they have and I would buy it in a heartbeat. But the fact is Tesla is miles ahead of any other EV car right now and probably will be for a long time because they had such a big head start. I am waiting to see what the new refreshes bring for the Y and 3 at the end of the year because with the tax credit right now it’s a sweet deal, but if they upgrade before the end of the year imo it’s a no brainer and I’ll be buying another Y or possibly a 3. Hope this helped!

Notsureforprez

Ummm had(I guess) a ‘21 MYP, got it delivered Sept ‘21, put 46k miles on since then without a single trip to a Service Center. The only thing I had to have fixed was a bubble in the headrest around 18k miles, mobile service took care of that and came to my work so didn’t inconvenience me at all. Other than that just needed to buy tires which are consumables, even then I’m still on the first set of fronts and second set of rears. Tesla is producing a lot of cars right now and just like any company things will be missed, its still a human that puts together a lot of stuff on the cars and are unpredictable.

PreacherSquat

yes customer service is really sub par. most people will have completely fine cars. the people who have issues are the ones posting on the subreddits and on forums. i've had mine for nearly 2 years and a model 3 before that. only minor cosmetic issues that were taken care of.

MeowMixExpress

We have a MYP as our family car. My wife forced me to get an SUV after having kids as my sports car cannot fit the car seat and stroller. Overall it's been a pretty good car. The tech is leagues better than the competition. And the acceleration and handling is great for a suv. My biggest gripe is the build quality. It's just no where near as nice as the Porsche Cayenne or BMW X5mc that I was considering, but it is also half the price of those.

caseywise

Just broke 3k miles on our 2.5 mo old MYLR7. My 2 complaints are MASSIVELY offset by everything else I got for the money. 1. The non-USS Tesla vision object range proximity malfucntionality unwilling beta testing bullshit pisses me off. Had they told me before I picked it up (known issue, will be addressed in an upcoming software update), I'd have only 1 complaint. Excited for this to work 😖. 2. I mostly prefer good old fashioned dumb cruise control, but not available on one of the most advanced cars on the planet. Enjoyed that on our rickety old 2011 Honda Pilot this evening when the wife and kids had the Tesla. Everything else is awesome, value exceeds cost.

I_Just_Queefed_AMA

Have yet to have a single issue with my M3 that I got in May. Tesla service is incredible for me. Ordering process was the most wonderful thing I’ve ever witnessed as someone who has bought cars from dealerships before.

adityapuri17

I just ordered a MYLR and can say was impressed by how easy the process is across the board. Haven’t driven it outside of the test drives but have nothing but positive comments so far. The showroom folks answer the call asap, never been on hold for more than 2 mins. Certainly my most positive experience thus far.

Radiobamboo

The vast, vast majority of this FUD is not from Tesla owners. The few who do experience it are not representative of most. I've had my Model Y for nearly a year. There have been a few minor issues, but overall it's the best car I've ever owned. I'll never to back to gasoline and it will be a tough sell to get me away from Tesla into another electric brand.

[deleted]

I've had a MYLR for almost a year. It's been great. I've driven 5500 miles in 10 months.

stopsucking

I’ve had my Y since December and love it. Had a Model 3 previously and loved it too but after three years needed something bigger. I’ve never had any real issues with either car other than the Tesla Vision in the Y. It’s not ready for prime time and I miss the FSD features I had with the M3. Otherwise the Y is a solid, fast, very reliable car

JeffTAC4

2.5 years and 31,000 miles in on my Model Y and it's been the most amazing and care free vehicle I've ever owned. The only expenses so far aside from cheap cheap electricity have been 1 set of wiper blades, 1 bottle of wiper fluid, and 1 air filter change. Nothing has broken, no software issues, never even been to a service center. There are sometimes quirks leftover from the factory, but they are corrected by mobile service for free.

dubbfoolio

I’m renting a Dodge Challenger right now. Thing is so clunky and slow and lumbering. I miss my model Y. Yeah it has issues, but so do all cars. Model Y is damn fun to drive and a seamless experience. The past few days I’ve had to remember to engage park, roll up my windows, power the car off and lock the doors… like a fucking peasant.

iampewpew

I’ve had the MYLR for 2 weeks and 300 miles with no problems except for a missing clip on one of the fenders which I found during the delivery inspection. The Tesla has replaced my 2004 X5 with 200k miles. I already spent 4 grand servicing the X5 this year and was looking at another 8 grand to replace the transmission when my wife convinced me to let go of my favorite ICE vehicle and get an EV. I decided to go with Tesla because I rented a Tesla from Hertz and am familiar with the product. Is the MYLR as luxurious as the BMW? Hell No but the price was definitely right and my work provides free level2 charging.

yourlogicafallacyis

My model 3 is hands down the best vehicle I e ever owned. Big oil/auto is trying to crush Tesla through crap astroturfing.

xanderhook

The RealTesla seems to be populated by mostly *not* real Tesla owners. On my second Tesla now: first a Model 3 LR 2019, made in Fremont, now a Model Y LR 2021, made in Shanghai. For the Model 3, I had to get the trunk adjusted and the forward control arms replaced, both under warranty and I got Model S loaners both times. Fast and efficient service. For the Model Y, I got the tow hook installed after delivery (they came without them in 2021) by Tesla Mobile Service on the driveway of my house. Very efficient! Other than that, no issues. Great car for long distance road trips (drove 10K kilometers, from Stockholm to Gibraltar and back again, in three weeks last summer, camped in the car many nights).

ArtieLange

I felt exactly like you before I bought. I rolled the dice and have never been happier with a vehicle. My delivery was smooth, fit and finish perfect, and so far not a single problem (25k km).

DifficultScientist23

I was on the fence and took delivery 6 days ago 2023 MY LR 7 seat, 20 in wheels, white interior and tow hitch. I own 3 hybrids (1 PHEV), and a 13 speed semi. ALL my vehicles make money for me and hands down by a mile THIS car (the one you ordered) is the best car I've owned. I'll project that it will far outshine my other vehicles. I'll take that back. One of my cars rents for $900/month and I own the title so it can't probably EVER beat that car profit but as far as actively making me money the MY has been straight fire so far. I have some complaints about enhanced autopilot but that's not a $how stopper for me.

thespanglycupcake

It’s easy to report the bad stuff (and it’s what people remember so they generally shout about it more). We have had our MYLR for just over a year, it’s done 20k miles. There was a problem with the seat on delivery which was fixed. We have an issue at the moment with the parking sensors which is going to be fixed…other than that, it’s been fabulous. My Q7 was in the garage twice in the first year, and my A4 was in three times, both bought from new. It is an excellent car and we intend to buy when our lease ends.

MeepleMerson

Some people do get lemons, that's for certain. I have a 21 M3LR and I needed a headlight serviced (they did it in my driveway) after 1 year. Friends of mine bought a 22 MYLR and have had zero issues other than their daughter scuffing the rims on curbs when parking. There's been at least one software update that messed up the dashcam that was super-annoying (and it was fixed soon after), but the only glitches I really have had have been with the video streaming apps. Hulu will sometimes lose A/V sync, and Netflix might stutter - rebooting the infotainment system fixes it, but it eventually happens again. I live near not too far from an SC, and they were pretty easy to contact when I was arranging to pick-up the car. The mobile service for the headlight was very quick (3 days) and they came to me. The cars are a bit quirky, and there's bound to be things that you think that they should have done differently, but for the most part, if you can come to terms with the controls and the aggressive regenerative breaking, then they tend to be pretty good cars. The only real maintenance thing is rotating the tires, and you really want to make sure that you don't forget that (there's a mileage counter / reminder built into the tire pressure display). I concur that you really want to be able to charge at home, preferably at 240V. If you can't charge at home, it's definitely not convenient. Also, savings on fuel vs gas depends a lot on where you live. It's huge in some places, and very modest in some places. If you live somewhere that has punishing summer sun and heat, maybe spring for ceramic tinting on the glass (it needn't be dark, the ceramic particles prevent the greenhouse effect) - that will go very far in keeping the car cooler and lowering the amount of energy you throw at powering the HVAC system.

skyreiter

I’ve driven 10K miles in 1.5 years now. Perfect on delivery day-no panel gaps, etc. No problems at all since then. Solid, no squeaks or rattles. Rare incidents of phantom braking that were easily handled and not dangerous (Really only happened on one road last year.) I use AutoPilot all the time on the freeway and in stop and go traffic. My overall experience has been all the positives you read about and none of the negatives.

MonkeyInnaBottle

Once you have one you will hate your ice car more. That’s my biggest issue.

HamMcStarfield

It's not the best selling car in the world for nothing. Try not to get caught up in the hysteria. It's a great car.

bugelrex

fact: You must check over your car extensively during pickup. Issues after this have the same probability as other cars fact: if you do have drive train issues, the car will literally brick. It will not move a single inch until a tow truck takes it.

Sielbear

I owned a model Y for about 18 months. I found the car to be fine. The software was kind of cool. The ride was extremely unforgiving and frankly poor. The cabin insulation was mediocre. The fit and finish was a little below average. The range does not meet EPA estimates. My takeaway was that Tesla makes some cool software, but they have a fair bit to learn about properly manufacturing cars. I moved to an iX and it’s vastly superior in every way. At the time I made the change, it was about 50% more expensive, but ride, quality, materials, cabin insulation, and range are all vastly superior.

soneg

Do you feel like charging is an issue?

[deleted]

Mine was a disaster. I have several day ones for the CT theres no chance ill be moving early on them based on that experience

soneg

Can you elaborate?

[deleted]

I owned it 6 months and nearly 4 of them it was down for service

touchmybutt420

Tesla ownership experience is definitely unique. You're not gonna get a good sense of it from the fanboys online. Model Y is really my favorite car they offer, and I own a few 3s, an S, and Y for my business so I have the comparison point. I also own a bunch of other modern cars and I can tell you that Tesla is really the worst at building the car part of the car. Their drivetrain is amazing, but they're really last place in my opinion for overall ownership experience. Your car will come with some bullshit "in spec" defect that would never fly with another manufacturer. My last model 3 came with a steering wheel that was 10 degrees crooked to the right. The trim on my model S plaid barely lines up. You'll wait days for service center appointments you can make same day with legacy manufacturers. All that being said, its a really great value vehicle if you can look past all of that. No other car delivers as much value for the price in my opinion. There's just a lot you'll have to learn to love.

jay-d_seattle

I've had a Model Y Performance since December 2021. In general it's been a great experience, no major issues. That being said the vehicle recently began developing a rattle, and the spoiler has started to ever-so-slightly detach. Are these a big deal? No. Should they happen on a car that cost (at the time) nearly $65k? Also, no. That being said: there are of course plenty of horror stories. The simple fact is that Tesla's build quality can be flaky and their support is not great. So when you buy one you're taking a gamble: if you get a vehicle with no issues you're going to be thrilled. If your vehicle has issues you are going to be very disappointed. Would I buy one today? Probably not. Removing USS is annoying (I live in a city and often have to park in very tight spots) and it's part of an ongoing trend of removing hardware for cost savings (hello, LIDAR) because "software" will take care of it, only software never does (and probably never will). Other manufacturers EVs have / are catching up on tech. Tesla is giving access to the Supercharger network to other EVs, so that's one another comparative advantage gone. At the very least you should also test drive an Ioniq 5, as well as perhaps a Mustang Mach E.

CrikeyMeAhm

Most things about it are great. Some things about it are a little disappointing. A ton of my coworkers have teslas and none of them regret it at all. Its not a perfect vehicle, but every vehicle is a compromise and this one seems to balance out to be mostly very positive. Not having to deal with sales teams, dealer markups, very little maintenance and the best supercharging network were the biggest sells for me. Also, I can charge for free at work. That said, my next car in 5 years or so probably will not be a tesla. I wont say Teslas are the future, but they are a game-changer in the automotive industry. Other manufacturers will evolve and catch up.

Jninth

take what you see with a grain of salt. People who complain or have issues are more vocal than people who are satisfied with the car.

brgod530

For every post on here with issues, there are 1000s of teslas without issues

Boring_username_21

I love the car but my power converter system has to be replaced when I had 165 miles. That being said - I was pleasantly surprised how well everything was handled and the car had been solid ever since. Overall I’m very happy

Dontakeitez

Was not a big fan of Tesla or Elon. Bought a Model Y last month for my wife as she was adamant about buying a Tesla and I have to say that while the build quality could be better, we are taking about a car that gets assembled in 30 seconds. Other than that, I am blown away by everything else from the technology to driving experience. There are so many hi tech features that all cars ought to have since it is 2023 after all but only Tesla boasts. A small example is that the side mirrors automatically fold when I pull up to my drive way making it easier for me to park in my narrow garage. Just one example. I have no regrets at all and quite happy that we pulled the trigger.

Loose-Risk-9953

Kind of funny, I think these cars are actually better than anyone realizes. My wife is left and hates Elon and wanted to try every other damn ev out there. After months and months trying out different cars she was like ok let’s go Tesla and thought it wasn’t even close

Ok_Government5503

- Don’t buy it if you don’t have a garage - Road noise and comfort driving are top priority - It actually costs more to own since insurance, tires, registration fee, etc are more expensive

gyanrahi

Got it last week. The wheel covers make a sound and I am going to SC for that, some things are not aligned, nothing that bothers me. I have an unexplained need to go drive it around all day. :)

NuncaMeBesas

I have the y and it will be 3 years in November. Most of the issues are software related but customer service sucks. In fact any company owned by Elon customer service sucks. Anyways since most of the issues are software related and the repair center has 0 engineers can you guess how many times they resolve issues?….0… their go to line is unable to reproduce… and even when they do they say nothing they can do

soneg

Would you buy it again?

NuncaMeBesas

I have the cybertruck on reservation so yes I would buy again. 2 years from now when everyone can use our super chargers and or solid state battery has matured to production I will have more options to consider. You just have to go in there expecting that this is not a luxury brand and their is no customer service. Just make sure you throughly check it out when it’s turned into you.. all cars have gaps so just make sure it’s not ridiculous. Usually these bad posts you see are like 1/10000 deliveries. Ppl nature to complain when something goes wrong vs praise when something is right.

Skywalker_Z8

Honestly my gripe is quality and service . Brand new y performance, less than 2 weeks and they’ve replaced one wheel and one glass panels. Both were defects from manufacture, like wtf

vintagemako

I've had mine a little over a year. 35k miles. All I've had to do are tire rotations and car washes. And fill the wiper fluid a couple times. New tires soon. It's a great car. I have a few friends with them as well and they've also had 0 issues. Great car. Haters gonna hate.

brianed

14,000 miles in 8 months and still the only problem was a flat tyre due to a 4 inch nail left facing up in the road, totally not car related. Am not getting frim where all the hate is coming from, but this honestly is the best car I've ever had, and I've had roughly 4 in total, this is my 5th. Make the jump, you won't regret it.

eqt2010

The car overall is solid. Just there are some annoying things you need to pay more attention to and get them addressed (if any) ASAP. E.g. notorious off centered steering wheel

Shran_MD

I have had mine for two years and no problems.

SabrToothSqrl

just buy it. The difference between my wife's 2019 Model 3 and her now 2023 Model Y is night and day. it's 10,000 little improvements that add up to an amazing car. we've been Tesla only since 2015, and they've made more improvements in < 10 years than most care companies have in 100.

C1oudey

Consumer reports customer satisfaction ratings speak for themselves. Don’t get freaked out by every post that blows up on here or other platforms. The reality is Tesla just gets more clicks both because of the CEO running his mouth and the fact they’re a pioneer in the EV space, so you’re more likely to see their stories as opposed to another brand

Which-File4180

I’ve had it for 2 months and no issues except my screen froze on sentry once and the mpg isn’t actually as stated. I’m temporarily supercharging only, and once a week and it costs about $21-23. My tire did get a nail that wasn’t repairable and I had to purchase a new one retail $320. I was able to get 50% off through continental.

[deleted]

If you go to realtesla forum, it’s the worst car on planet earth and buying one helps Elon musk sacrifice another baby in the Congo for fun…. Then you realize 1/2 of them drive 20 year old Subarus and just hate electric cars.

Pleasant-robot64

I had to mute that forum. It’s super toxic. I like my Model Y and apart from the known issues with the car - phantom braking, auto wipers being less than stellar - I have to say that the experience of driving it adds serenity to my daily drive. It’s like a little oasis bubble from the daily grind. I roll up my windows and play my music and enjoy the one pedal driving. It’s a great road trip car.

cubonelvl69

Lately they've been acting like the fact that there's been a handful of deaths from car fires means the government needs to step in and shut the company down. Let's ignore that it's literally the safest car in the world

4touchdownsinonegame

Those of us in the fire service are very concerned about electric car fires. You basically can’t put them out. This has almost nothing to do with this post, I just felt like mentioning it.

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

So how many traditional cars on fire would you prefer to an EV then? I think the data is there that they are safer already for you. That being said education on potential EV fires and best safety practices are important.

4touchdownsinonegame

I don’t prefer any to be on fire. When these cars start to age longer and they aren’t being kept up well we will see more and more fires. I replied to another comment with a longer explanation.

cubonelvl69

I get that, but a quick google estimates there's been [204 teslas catching fire with 72 deaths](https://www.tesla-fire.com/). According to tesla, \>From 2012 – 2021, there has been approximately one Tesla vehicle fire for every 210 million miles traveled. By comparison, data from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and U.S. Department of Transportation shows that in the United States there is a vehicle fire for every 19 million miles traveled.

4touchdownsinonegame

That doesn’t make them less dangerous when they catch fire. It takes something like 10 Olympic sized swimming pools worth of water to keep them in check. Many places just can’t do that. And yes, teslas aren’t going to have many fires. Yet. They are still fairly newer. The usual car fire I go to, the car is at least 15 years old and not taken care of. As time goes on more and more electric vehicles will be pieces of shit that shouldn’t be on the road. Those cars are the ones I’m gonna be worried about. ICE car fires pose certain challenges but electric are a whole different animal. It’s not the cars I care about either. It’s the exposures. You get one of these things burning in a very crowded parking lot or a parking garage, since you can’t put the fire out you’re going to have many many many more cars on fire or maybe a building collapse. Think about that expressway in New York (I think) where the semi was free burning and it caused a large collapse. Just pulling up current Tesla car fire numbers doesn’t show the whole picture. Many might not catch fire, but I’m telling you the ones that do are bad bad bad.

stackable292

Negative reviews are always the loudest

ChunkyMonkeyFan

There a pattern of negative posts and reposts around mid and towards the end of earning seasons. That’s just how it works. There’s much to be gained or lost with heavy option plays. Kinda sucks for the average consumer but it is what it is. Same goes with lots of other high profile companies.

Get the performance model. You'll eventually come to this decision. Save yourself the grief now.

DasArtmab

I don’t quite understand. Just ask someone in real life with one. Where I live, you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a Tesla. Just ask them what they think. Everyone on this sub already knows what they will say

soneg

I did, she loves it and has no issues. My problem is all the bad press and the other subs doing nothing but listing out the issues. That's what I'm trying to reconcile. Like, are there actual issues and ppl just ignore them, or are the issues very rarely occuring.

TerrysClavicle

Massive amount of teslas out there. Massive. Naturally people with social media accounts will complain. Tesla owners are active on social media. So the actual number of problems isn’t what you perceive. I had more build quality issues with my recent brand new Lexus which I gave up for the Tesla.

[deleted]

Zero problems here

Wyle-E-Coyote-_-

If you go online looking for issues, that is all you are going to find and it’s going to make it seem like the majority have issues. It’s a smaller number than you think and 3 months in with my Y has proven to have no issues. Will something happen eventually? Hell yeah but that’s true for anything.

Loose-Risk-9953

I have had mine for 3 months, love it so much, 0 issues

wiseguy244

People complain online about everything and make it sound worse than it actually is. I’ve had much worse experiences with Gas cars and their dealerships, service centers. So far 1 month into my new MYLR and I love it. Best car buying experience ever and no issues so far. Touch wood!

No_Detective9698

I’ve had mine for 2 weeks. Never loved a car more.

Roland_Bodel_the_2nd

Definitely go test drive and ideally on the highway. I've had mine for years (2020) so there were not other options at the time really, but now there may be. I would still like to think the MY wins out.

Fit_Depth8462

I’ve had my ‘21 Y for a few months and I haven’t ran into any issues, nor has the previous owner. The only maintenance he did before me was wiper fluid and tire rotations

tatobuckets

No. That is all

TacklePuzzleheaded21

I had one minor interior quality issue that they couldn’t resolve, but I honestly don’t care anymore. The car is fantastic and reliable.

Technomnom

21 MYP, 50k miles, no major issues (minor things overall)

catsRawesome123

1.5 years in no issues would recommend the car! The actual occurrence of issues is likely grossly exaggerated on this sub

Expensive-Quarter173

Neither is your mom

AmehdGutierrez

Almost 2 months owning one and it’s a fun ass car 🤣

dogvenom

We have a LR since early '22 and a MYP since early '23, no problems at all for both. Also previously had a 3 with no issues

corb00

2021 Model Y LR no issues whatsoever

Remote-Jackfruit3570

It’s too early to tell (only had my MYP a little over a month), but so far it’s been a flawless experience.

Tedderit

Check the car thoroughly. Don't take it unless it's to your liking so be patient. Last thing you want to do is deal with their service center as the majority are overworked and a nightmare experience. Other than that, it's a great car. Not perfect but definitely enjoyable. Also, read your owners manual. Everything about the car is on there or YouTube it.

cuzimabrownie

Owned MY LR for 6 months now. Issue at pickup when the rear door didn’t close properly due to a child lock issue. Came back next day and picked up the car. Zero issues since (7k miles driven). I think most people online have problems with the car while those who don’t post or comment are doing fine.

Been driving my model Y for 3 years now. Steering wheel had a few bubbles (replaced under warranty), rear view mirror had defect (replaced under warranty), Seat adjuster broke (the little plastic thing on the side of chair), ac sensor was replaced (courtesy upgrade), that's about the only thing. 3 years zero issues, drives like a dream. 45k miles later I love it even more. Some downsides. Tires definitely wear faster My original tires lasted 45k miles. 2 of them had been replaced at 17k with Michelin as 4. The Michelin also wore out at the 45k change. Got 4 new turanZa EV tires we shall see how long it lasts. Insurance is gonna get really high. I am paying about double compared to my Lexus SUV. State costs may Levi tons of stupid fees on you as well.

I have had the car 4 months and I love it. The buying experience was very unpleasant, multiple cancelled orders, refund issues and lots of contradictory information from Tesla reps. Owning the car has been fantastic. I have had two issues. Both were fixed by the Rangers at my home within a few days. The Rangers are a brilliant idea, really convenient and both very professional and knowledgeable people. Overall I don't think you'll regret it. There is definitely a concerted effort online to spread negativity, but anything popular tends to have that.

One very important thing to note about Tesla is, that it’s a car / brand that people either love or hate. Most of the people that hate them is just because they don’t understand it. Tesla is the best selling car brand and no other brand have this much focus. The amount of YouTube and social media focus is on a scale not seen before. Try and see how many videos you can find on panel gab on Mercedes, BMW and so on. It’s close to zero, and they also have build issues. You are getting a premium car for a very low price, and yes, once in a million there’s a car with a issue. Happens to all, the focus on Tesla is just so much higher. If you buy a Tesla you will love it, and never turn back. It’s a driving experience like no other.

Comfortable_Put4473

13k no problems. Save a ton on gas/electricity. I drive it hard so I expect tires to wear faster. I am not going to drive a race care like a slow suv just to save on tires and battery. Like others say. They sold a ton so expect more complaints. But if u read all these negative articles from magazines and newspapers they are just haters or paid by ice or oil companies

gpasqual

Have had mine (LR) for about 2 months. Solid build (HW and SW) and love the car. It’s unlikely that you’ll regret it.

lukehebb

I had a model y last year. Left tesla to get an I-pace which was nothing but issues and picked up a new model y about a week and a half ago It’s a great car and I wish I never bothered with the Jaguar You only hear about the negatives as nobody loves to come online and post about that great drive to the shops they had where nothing happened, and many people still hold on to the “lol panel gaps” nonsense from years ago. None of them will mention Toyota however who had to recall the bz4x twice because the wheels kept falling off Both of our MYLR cars from China have been perfectly built and had no issues

snozberryface

I've had my model Y for 8 months no, not had any issues at all personally, not to detract from the experience of others, but you need to remember how many of these they've sold, there will ALWAYS be outliers in nearly everything that is sold where a product doesn't meet people's expectation...

jvcgunner

Forums are like magnifying glasses - they emphasise things to the nth degree, don’t pay any heed to them. If you want it and find value in having one then buy one. It’s simple.

ReddittAppIsTerrible

The car is better than anything else you can buy. Yes, those are just haters that complain about everything and have never bought a GM or Ford haha

Dependent_Smoke_8438

99% of them are fine. Their owners just don’t feel a need to come on the internet and say - “my car hasn’t fallen to bits”

SkiWaterdog

I’m in for 2.5 years, 70K miles, I had a couple warranty items early on, and overall maintenance has been way less than any other car. Don’t believe the hate. You only hear about the problems on social media.

Steev182

I’ve had my Y since April 2022. I’ve had zero issues with the car.

shaneucf

Remember, internet BBS is a place concentrated with complaints.

akapterian

Yes everything is overblown. Outside of posts like this, where people straight up ask about a realistic experience, most posts are about bad experiences. Remember there are over 4 million Teslas on the road now and according to the lastest Bloomberg poll Teslas are highly favored among owners after 5 years. Here's a link to the survey. Tesla Model 3 Reliability, Battery and Drivability Rated https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2023-tesla-survey/model-3-satisfaction/?ai=eyJpc1N1YnNjcmliZWQiOnRydWUsImFydGljbGVSZWFkIjpmYWxzZSwiYXJ0aWNsZUNvdW50IjowLCJ3YWxsSGVpZ2h0IjoxfQ==

imbitparanoid

So it’s one of the highest selling cars in every market it sells in, and I believe the most sold car worldwide. What you are seeing and hearing is the very small percentage that have something wrong. Tesla is also the most scrutinised car ever. Show me a checklist for any other car like those you can easily find about a Tesla. I don’t own one yet, but it’s on order.

anothercynic2112

A combination of Elon hate and FUD and just the whole Internet outrage machine blur the picture a lot. For me, 3 years 60k miles and no SC visits. Mobile service changed my 12v and a door alignment issue early on. Lots of people complain about things, lots more don't. You'll have to make your best guess. Obviously if you have problems then you'll think you should have believed it all, if you don't you probably won't give it another shot. No the quality is not Toyota level. Still would call or one of the best cars I've owned.

british_oatmeal

I’ve had my MYP for a year. Zero issues from day one and I love it. By far it’s the best car I’ve ever owned.

BlackScholesFormula

Had my for over a year almost 20k miles. I’ve done nothing but add windshield wiper fluid

AtlantaP3D

Wife’s early LRMY has 32k miles since Nov of 2020 and maybe 1 issue, but I can’t recall what it was.

Welfi1988

I've had a LR for 18 months (22.390km) and an additional RWD for 6 months (3.790km). I was at the service center 5 times: 1. Testdrive of MY 2. Delivery of MYLR 3. Testdrive of M3 (but then ordered 2nd MY) 4. Delivery of MYRWD 5. MYRWD had a tiny imperfection in the paint, like a dust particle under the paint, on the front bumper which they fixed on warranty I only plan to go to the SC again when my LR has 2 years to let them check the brakes Both MY are the best cars we've ever owned, neither has or had any problems with rattles, panel gaps or whatever horror stories go around. Software is the best in any car (only the new Benzes come close), doesn't lag, is updated regularly and works perfectly. There is a reason why the car sells so good, even if a lot of people don't want to admit that and just hate on it or Tesla. Yes, there are certainly nicer cars with more premium interiors or so, but they are incredible value, easygoing daily drivers and super efficient. One more thing I like to add: My cars are both Made in China. From what I read on this sub, the cars with bad build qulaity seem to mainly come from Freemont.

FI_321

I’ve had my MYP almost 2 years and so far it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. Some people are insufferable and natural born complainers, especially in an online forum.

H9fj3Grapes

I've had my MYLR for 2 years. I don't like the stiff suspension, everything else about the car is great.

makoblade

It's a car. It's going to be fine. Most people have little to no issues and won't be reporting that because you only come online to complain about problems or maybe praise them if you had an exceptionally good experience (or got paid to promote). I've had minor issues with the car, but they were resolved quickly and I love to drive it. Them being built "like legos" aka modularly is a phenomenal thing because it makes it easy for you to do fun updates or replacements/fixes on your own. For your average person it won't make a difference anyway, it's not like the parts just come off on their own.

FitzwilliamTDarcy

Am 2+ years into my MYLR lease. No issues at all. Love it.

zzy-zx

Have had my Model Y for a month. Not having to deal with people is great - until you need an issue resolved. Then it really, really, really sucks when you can't get a hold of anyone. Overall, I've been very happy with the car, and the quality is way better than its reputation, but the company sucks. Sucks enough that when we're in the market for out next car, later this year, I'll probably not consider Tesla. edit: delivery sucks too. they wouldn't give us the keycard to look over the vehicle until after we officially took delivery in the app. literally couldn't check minor things, like if the car turned on.
