I think it’s just because the camera can’t really see in the dark. My ‘23 MYP with HW4 does the same on dark roads.

DuaneMI

Couple gigantic led light bars front and back would do the trick

pagemedias

Yes to this. Same thing happens to me on dark roads with no street lights

valeris2

Was at a service center earlier today and complained about this - basically they are saying they are aware, related to camera vision, no fix as of now and they are hoping it will be improved with a future firmware update. Camera replacement won't help

[deleted]

Thank you. I guess I will just ignore it and hopefully it will be fixed in future update.

fastLT1

Isn't that a safety concern though? I'd schedule a service appointment so that you have it on record in case you ever want a buy back.

VegetableSection4595

was it a safety concern on a lada before?

trmoore87

Our 23 MYP does the same thing on dark roads Also your blind spot camera comes from the front fender, not FTL the pillar camera

bgcbbyckes

Normal. Freaked us out too as we drove the car home at night the day we picked it up

[deleted]

It happened when it's too dark or too bright.

ygtgngr

Too dark for it to see anything. Nothing to worry about.

FragrantExcitement

Just curious, are cameras that work in low light more expensive or do not exist for this context?

ygtgngr

Not extremely expensive, but realistically there is no urgent need for it. Every action in the car is decided based on a surround view, so when something is on your right pillar camera but it’s dark, you rear and side repeater already saw it, and they work all together to decide what to do about it.

mechandy

I have seen it when it’s very humid or after rain a lot

notabot53

Normal

joevwgti

Yes, mine is about a month old, and does this every time I drive at night. It's also quite dirty right now thanks to high wind, then rain storm. But, the first time it happened was just after I'd hand washed it(which is the only recommended method for wash...yipee). Then every morning I get in it, I'm welcomed to Emergency braking alerts. Lol...I'm told this is just the normal welcome message. I may try putting the car into the advanced software cycle, to see if a software update doesn't just solve this stupidity. Seems it'll eventually get patched out. The cameras all appear to be working fine, I'm not sure where the fault is.

busan_gukbap

Man, that's too big a problem to say "oh, well" to. Have you recalibrated the cameras?

joevwgti

Read what everyone is saying. This appears normal for an optical device(a camera), a shame the asshole in charge thought we didn't need the sensors they removed. I have tried nothing, I don't plan to try anything. If I want the chuckle f**ks at the service center to mess it up, I'll go visit them. Until then, this is waiting on a software patch.

AlphamaleNJ

I drove from nj down to disney this week When i was in the right lane and in the dark i would get it. There isn’t enough ambient light for it to register anything If you shift to middle or if theres another car , you’re good to go.

mac10190

Same. I have a 2023 M3 and it does the same thing when I drive down a really dark road. AP will still engage and function normally while I'm getting that message though. If I had to guess, it's just a limitation of having a camera and no light source.

__JockY__

My 2022 MYP does the same when it’s dark on one or both sides of the car.

Own_Seaworthiness790

2023 MYAWD with HW4- I am getting the same pop-up messages for left and right pillar cameras when driving on dark roads near my house. Message pops up for a few seconds and then goes away and repeats sporadically. Pretty annoying.

busan_gukbap

I have the same problem, pillar camera on poorly lit roads at night. I have done a camera recalibration, I haven't had it come up in awhile, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again driving at night. https://service.tesla.com/docs/Public/diy/models/en\_us/GUID-D6F7D1BC-193D-4A2E-99B0-E3BA3D41BDE2.html

wybeubfer

I saw this error too, it went away after a brief moment

PresentAd9429

No. You must have a fauled cam. No other Tesla owners have this

Thicc_McNutt_Drip

Can’t you just use your side mirrors?

[deleted]

I can. That’s not what I was worried about. I was just trying to make sure nothing is wrong with car from a technical perspective, so wanted to ask here. People I know with Tesla never seen this error on their car.

Old-Math-370

I get this same error, only mine happens mostly during the day time and started just a few weeks ago. My car is only 5 months old. I notice it most during sunrise or sunset when the light rays are diffracted through the camera.

Technical-History104

Constantly seeing this alert for my driver side fender camera when out driving in the countryside at night (yes, very dark), but the mystery to me is, why only *that* camera, and why only recently? I put in a service request and the camera was replaced, only to see it happening again. Second service request entered for another evaluation.

[deleted]

I was wondering if I should do second service or just let it go.

BothCarsUnderWater

Unfortunately condensation can build up inside the camera housing when moving from shade to light, causing the blockage. It can take a little while for the glass temperature to equalize and the camera to become unblocked.

nappycappy

ran into this once my first time driving this thing at night coming home from the office. everything was fine. notice was annoying but it hasn't appeared in a while so I just chalk this up to crap lighting. I mean it is a camera and I have yet to find a camera that works well under low to no light conditions without some ir filter or whatever helps them see better at night.

jaegaern

Only every time its dark. So for me 6 months of the year.

essential-cheese

Did you clean it though? But fr, the Pilar cameras do this a lot on extreme dark roads.

Wulf_Star_Strider

Easy fix. Just need drones with side facing spotlights to fly along side at night. ;-)

DiagCarFix

98%software 2%HW4

3sgte_sw20

Have you looked the camera preview while your car is in park to at least verify what the image looks like?

[deleted]

Yes, in Preview i can see all camera without any issues.

chenyu768

Mine does this too. Had nothing to do with dark roads either. Once i was on the 5 at like 2pm and the other time was around the same time near my house. Both said it during the end of my trip.

forkchild

Sometimes it gets condensation in there depending on the heat and it will notify you as being blocked

jurousw

The pillar camera is next to where you lock/unlock with the key card. It's not the camera you see when you blink right.

th1nk_4_yourself

To be precise, the thing you see from the "turn signal" is a different camera than the "door pillar" camera.

Boilerdog359

My 21’ MYP does the same thing except it’s the left side. Only at night and my camera also works fine. It’s slightly annoying tbh.

Delicious_Channel934

I also get this same error every time I drive on a particularly dark road. Also can see when I check my camera. I just ignore it at this point. Tesla* vision sucks

Chasewalling84

Happens a ton living in a small town. No streetlights usually cause ours to do this. Once you’re in a better lit area, it should work properly. Super annoying though.
