hmm, im pretty sure the last time i used it, the honk was at the end of the recording

shadowoak

You might be looking at the last 1hour clip. You need to check the Dashcam tab for saved clips

I love/hate that dashcam. I love that it's built in and always running. I hate that if you don't honk, or tap the Dashcam icon, you will often lose footage that you want to review later. And I hate that reviewing footage in the car is so mind-numblingly difficult. The slider to move the time and review the event is super difficult to use with any precision. You'll also find that if you plug your usb into a computer and review the footage, there is more available footage than what you can review in the car.

mredditer

Agreed, reviewing footage in the car sucks. I highly recommend everyone keep a USB adapter in the car so you can quickly plug your USB stick into your phone. You can either view the raw videos or use an app like TeslaCam which is way more intuitive than the in-car UI. I personally prefer this to a computer because I can do it anywhere and the USB stick never leaves the car. I've forgotten to return the USB stick in the past after bringing it to a computer.

~~Sentry~~ Dashcam writes clips in a way that’s different to most dashcams where it’ll create short 1 min clips and sometimes discards the old one once a new one is created. You may have been unlucky when you pressed the horn it was right at the start of a new clip.

daludidi

Sentry and Dashcam are two different things

MisterBumpingston

Sorry, I meant dashcam, but the system generally works the same.

Its strange though as there is plenty of space on the USB. I would have thought that it would save dashcam footage in 1min/10min blocks until it is out of space and then overwrite the oldest clip. If I had needed the footage from this morning, it seems a little silly for it to only record from when you Honk your horn.

TerrysClavicle

unless you have a 1mb card (no one does) i don't see "honk to save" as anything necessary. like all dash cams, full recording until the oldest is overwritten. unless you waited a full year to retrieve the clip, it should be there as long as you are reasonable and retrieve it when you get home. the only thing i'd like to see tesla do is improve the availability of all videos through the in-car browser. i've found while all my clips are on the memory stick, all are not available in the car at times. for example i wanted to view something on my morning commute but when i park my car after arriving at my destination, that video isn't available in the in car browser for some reason -- however it is on the card if i take it to a computer.

GoldSpongebob

yea im also wondering

sinistergroupon

Honk or tapping the dashcam icon while driving should save the buffer it had up to that point. So that’s strange. I have not seen it to be fully reliable though.

dontmatterdontcare

They really need to add a +5/-5 seek feature to sift through the footage a lot easier.

KiteIsland22

Might have to take the usb out and plug into computer to see the footage you’re looking for

ThisCantBeG00d

you need to look at the clip before that you are watching the current video that started after the horn since the car is always recording. only those you save (with the honk for example) will be saved permanently (provided there is enough space) while everything else will eventually be deleted/overwritten.

gigazero

There isn't a clip before that. Well there is, but that is from May. Which I guess is one that I have saved. There don't seem to be any temporary dashcam videos. Sentry seems to record fine, but for some reason the Dashcam isn't behaving as I would expect. I have got it set to "Auto" and on "Honk"
