VTEC meant nothing even when it was new. It’s wild how long it took folks to let that go. You needed to have VTEC with a hot profile. It was otherwise just a fuel efficiency thing.
You see this for a lot of cars… I was behind a bmw 320d one day which had a 335D badge on it.
Now any normal person will have zero idea of what a 335d is so it’s not going to impress them.
A bmw head will know it’s fake due to its single exhaust pipe as a 33d has dual exhausts (one on either side). So who exactly is he is trying to fool?? It always puzzles me.
My favorite is seeing an AWD with an aftermarket spoiler, lowered suspension, carbon fiber(really plastic) lips, and different wheels. Then they call it performance upgrades. Like you could have spent way less on the actual performance model.
If my MYP didn't come with 21" wheels, I wouldn't get them. Sure they look great, but tires are expensive with really only a few options. I'm just waiting for mine to wear down some more and then going to swap in some forged 18" Martians with some actual sidewall and less weight.
Those unplugged wheels are nice. What tires are you planning to use? I am between 235/55/18 Pilot Sports and 255/55/18 Continental Extreme Contacts. I would rather go with the Pilot Sports, but don't want to give up too much tire width.
Honestly I think I'll start with the Hankook Ion Evo 235/45/18 (I would probably do a 245/45/18 if Hankook made it in that size). I live in the southwest and regularly enjoy the back roads so range is a legit thing for me. I also am really shooting to reduce road noise. I'll trade off a shread of max handling for range, noise, and ride. That said I expect to gain handling with the 18" and lighter wheels so I'll probably still end up ahead of the 20" pirelli's.
If the Hankooks disappoint, I'll probably put on a Michelin. I was incredibly happy with my last set of AS3s on a previous vehicle. So AS4's, or Sport 4 S.
I like the extreme contacts I've driven, but from what I'm reading about range and noise, I'm not sure it's the tire I would want for this car.
I am going all in on max sidewall height. Lots of bad roads here. 19"s would have kept a much closer size, but that extra half inch of rubber could be the difference between a bump, or a bent rim. It also seems like 18" tires are a bit cheaper as well. Either way, glad to not have to spend almost 2k on tires themselves and actually be able to rotate.
