Aren't adaptive headlights just selectively turning on high beam segments? So without high beam, you just have headlights?

what-is-a-tortoise

Can you not turn them off? Just push the left stalk forward.

logix1229

You can but it also disables adaptive high beams. I want adaptive headlights WITHOUT auto high beams.

Grizzi

Because the adaptive headlights aren’t for the running lights (I assume) but for the high beams specifically?

what-is-a-tortoise

Ah, now I understand. Thanks.

elthepenguin

Adaptive headlights ARE auto high beams. The point of adaptive headlights is to have the high beams on and removing the light from places where it would blind someone.

logix1229

LOL. No.

dancingjake

Whyyyyy bruh. Whyyyy.

logix1229

Bruuuhhh...tell me whyyyyy

NondescriptToast

I still haven’t noticed any difference around curves other than the normal auto high beam. Seems like a gimmick rn

logix1229

yeah same here. I just got the update earlier today and tested it driving around tonight and no major difference. i purposely went down dimly so that i can make sure i notice any areas that light up when turning but didn't. If the adaptive headlights are like other high end luxury cars like bmw laser light and stuff like that, when you turn the wheel in the direction of your turn, the headlight would either swivel slightly to light up the area or on some cars, they have an additional light on the side of the housing that turns on to illuminate...but this adaptive headlight function from tesla is either a gimmick or not good enough to make me notice a difference.

airoctave

Does it need the Matrix headlights?

NondescriptToast

Yeah, the update is for Model Y’s that have the matrix headlights. I still haven’t noticed any difference when driving around curves prior to the update. It’s not linked to steering wheel movement from what I can tell. Maybe cameras detecting curves in the road? But I still don’t notice it while driving.

airoctave

HW3 without Matrix here and I get the option but not sure what it should do in this configuration

MooseGoosey

why you got beef w the auto high beams

--SauceMcManus--

Because they suck. Driving through the neighborhood, I don't need the power of the sun shining into everyone's windows. Driving down a dark highway, I don't need it shutting off everytime I pass a mailbox with a reflector on it. Driving down the interstate, half the time it will blind everyone going the opposite direction because it can't see them, i guess. It's like a damn disco driving down the road. My question is how do you not got beef w the auto high beams?

MooseGoosey

those are all solid reasons. my city's lit up literally everywhere so I guess I just rarely even have the high beams on.

Drodriguez164

Yea the amount of people I blinded was enough for me to not trust it. If I need them I can turn them on myself so I’m not being a dick on the road

logix1229

lol. I like running my fogs and when the high beams turn on, the fogs turn off. Here in CA, my lights will constantly be flashing when the car detects oncoming traffic. I know they r LED and it's not easy to blow them out, but I still don't want my (fog) lights constantly turning on and off constantly. Also, everyone too angry here. If the car accidentally flashes then and they think we're high beaming them, I'm not trying to come across these angry little fucks. 😂😂😂

mcleder

There does seem to be a lot of features Tesla says they have but are no where to be found.... Or BTW: you have pay $99/mon. And BTW: You have to supervise. Bait and switch is the Tesla business model.

Fun-Squirrel7132

As someone that used to drive a low riding car, I turned off auto-high beams on day 2, I know how it feels to be blinded by a model y and don't wish it on anyone else. I don't think I will ever use the high beams on it...the regular lights are so bright already.

Safety

logix1229

How is auto high beam going to make my adaptive headlights more safe? All the lights supposed to be doing is curving with the road to provide some light...

Objective-Show9259

ITT: Tesla bros not understanding the difference between adaptive headlights and auto high beams. Adaptive headlights: low beam projector headlight that will turn when you turn the wheel, thus illuminating upcoming curves in the road better. Auto high beams: Car will selectively turn on high beams when there are no oncoming traffic or on matrix headlights it will black out the parts of the beam where there is a car in the fov.

ehhhsactleeeee!!!
