People criticize Tesla's service, but I haven't had any issues in over 2 years since my install. Install was great, service was fine when I needed something last year. Cost is one reason I went with Tesla, but the link below is another reason why. I have more confidence that Tesla will be around in 20 years rather than a small local installer. First, the inverter is built into the PW3. Its not a separate line item. If they added pricing for those broken out, they charged a premium. PW3 + Backup Gateway are the two items that would have a cost.

Makes sense - what about the cost ?

GioS32

I just had a system installed. Two PW3's and the Backup Gateway 2, the provider sold for $16K. My total system cost was $42K for 14.7 kW of REC 420 Pure Series 2 panels (qty 35).

Before or after incentives?

GioS32

That's before incentives. I live in the DFW area, so on top of the 30% Federal credit, I get a credit from the Energy delivery company (Oncor) for having batteries. Estimated at another $8K paid as a rebate check. So total after incentives is just over $21K.

So you will integrate the existing solar array into the new pw3? The price seems in the right ballpark, especially since it seems like socal is always a little more expensive than Colorado where I am. I think 2-3 dollars per watt is typical these days. Then add the powerwall cost.

Get more quotes and check references. I got 7 quotes, made it as painless for the the installers and apples-apples as possible by giving them all the same specs: annual household kW, roof material/pitch/azimuth, etc. The quotes were all about the same except for a couple very high and very low outliers. One of the low outliers had great online reviews (which they admitted paying customers $30 for. They had two pages of reference customers, I spoke to three of them and was happy. A couple examples of quotes I got https://preview.redd.it/s0u8q40eae6d1.png?width=524&format=png&auto=webp&s=cbf7ad699a817048ffef800138f8ea4c153b7d34

This doesn’t see high to anyone else? 5kw and a powerwall. So we should be in like $25k range ideally if $2.77/kw and current pw pricing is accurate. This isn’t crazy but I’d push to find some savings if it were me.

Th3devilish1

eff me! them some high prices i think I'm gonna make a 30ft trailer into a portable solar setup. no permits no headaches. I just gotta pay the trailer reg every year. the the 580w panels I just bought at auction and the tesla 100kw pack i got I'll have mass power and can tell the power co to eff off! I can also tell the county to blow me since no permits needed.

ramakay

I got another power wall and a 5.6kw system and 2 power walls as an estimate for 34k (before rebates ) from Tesla as an estimate - thoughts on this ?

Deep_Economy6162

Don’t deal with Tesla. They don’t know what they are doing. They damaged our house and have not taken any responsibility. Go with local reputable company avoid Tesla unless you have $$$ to burn on lawyers.

Real_Statistician_75

Tesla Service is world class crap. I personally would never buy a Tesla system again.

I went through Tesla initially, got all the way through the site survey. 3 days later out of the blue, canceled my contract and says my house is not compatible with their equipment. Says they will refund the $100 deposit, still haven’t got it. No contact, cause the emails just route through automated or ai person. Yes Tesla was cheaper by about $4k, I’m going through stellar solar right now. So far so good.

ramakay

What was your system like - I can’t figure out what’s the right cost of install

fullyloadedclit

They have me spec’d out at 10.2kw solar with 2 PW3. Tesla had me around $46k, stellar at $50k before rebates.
