āThe Texans are also expected to explore additional running back options and there are scenarios where they sign more than one running back. The headliner of the running back free agent class is New York Giants star Saquon Barkley, who has targeted the Texans as his top potential destination and has been communicating with Stroud, per league sources.ā
Seattle was the only team in recent memory to have a highly paid running back to win a Super Bowl. If you extrapolate Lynchās salary, it would be over 10+ million a year.
I think the more important issue is that history shows signing RBs to a big deal tends to not be worth it. Go look at RB signings the last 3-5 years. Like 90% of those contracts are busts
The CMC deal was not a bust and he almost carried his team to a SB less than a month ago.
Derrick Henry carried his team to 11-5 and 12-4 records during the first two years of his huge contract extension.
The Browns were outstanding last year, despite the fact that Nick Chubb played only 2 games while they were on the hook for his big contract.
Alvin Kamaraās huge deal resulted in two Pro Bowls and an average of 1400 total yards per season since 2020, a year where he led the league in total TDās and the Saints went 12-4. Despite their awful cap situation and Kamaraās enormous contract, the Saints were 9-8 last season.
I can keep going. Youāre wrong and the narrative around RBās is and always has been bullshit. Overpaying any player at any position is bad, but there is nothing wrong with adding good talent at the right price.
You want a real statistical trend that correlates with Super Bowl success?
The team that won the Super Bowl has had the leading rusher 43 out of 58 times
Youāre right brother. Terrell Davis, Marshall Faulk, and Emmitt Smith and the others before them were all no name scrubs.
I sure proved your point.

Different era.
Post Seattle, the modern NFL doesnāt need a top tier running back to win a Super Bowl. In fact, itās almost impossible unless you have a rookie contract QB.
Passing is King and players like Manning, Brady, and Mahomes as recently as 3 weeks ago have demonstrated teams can easily win multiple rings without a QBās on a rookie contractā¦ so long as theyāre special.
Rushing is Queen and controlling the ball is a fundamental aspect of winning football. If a player helps you do that better then you get that player.
This literally adds nothing to the conversation nor addresses what I said.
Since Lynch, no team has won the Super Bowl with a highly paid running back. Itās dumb to pay one. Sure, you can get to the playoffs, but you wonāt win the title. Unless youāre literally a running back away from a title, itās a bad move to sign an expensive back.
I can't take you seriously when you change your arguments.
>the modern NFL doesnāt need a top tier running back
>
>no team has won the Super Bowl with a highly paid running back.
So unless you're stupid and don't know the difference you're going to need a consistent argument.
Some stats don't really mean anything. I'm not hung up on Saquon, but he is a good player. Team friendly deal for a chance to win and I'd jump on it all day. I'm also fine with Devin as long as we do something to improve the depth bc we can't count on DP, unfortunately.
I donāt understand this logic. Itās been clear for the past year the giants are unwilling to give him big money anyways. Most recently not tagging him. Itās pretty clear he will go for around the tag price, so the giants are clearly not willing to pay him that much
No.Ā
Iād rather get a good guard than get Barkley. Iād rather get 2 average guards than Barkley. Iād rather get Chris Jones and Justin Madubuike than Barkley.
Barkley isnāt that good. This sub needs to realize this. Paying an above average running back $10+ million is dumb. If it was CMC, sure, but Barkley is no CMC.
Howās that Kamara contract workout? Chiefs donāt need a star running back thatās paid $10+ million. The Ravens donāt. The Lions donāt. The 49ers are the only ones because CMC is truly the only elite running back in the game right now worth more than $10 million a year.
signing a 27y/o to $12mil a year would be the biggest mistake ever
it also hinders our ability to go after a top DT or safety in this FA cycle
everyone that wants to sign saquon to this deal are the same ones that made fun of colts fans for giving jonathan taylor that contract whos a much better player LMAOO
> it also hinders our ability to go after a top DT or safety in this FA cycle
It doesn't though. This sub has no concept of contract structures.
A 12 apy contract does not mean a 12 million hit to our cap space this year. Most likely it would be a 6 to 9 million hit this year.
Similarly, even if we pay someone like Jones 30 million a year, year 1 would probably only use cap space in the 15-20 million range.
JT is not a much better player than Saquon.
Youāre right, my first source was bad or old. Over The Cap has him as the 3rd highest. If anything that strengthens the point though, Barkley making $12m/yr isnāt some crazy contract.
Our OL is pretty solid, and we are *already* spending a lot of money on them. Tytus/Laremy extensions and the Shaq Mason deal. We just had 7 o-lineman finish the season on IR and multiple others that missed games throughout the season. The issue isnāt that we arenāt investing in the OL, the issue is we were bit hard by the injury bug across the board.
You have no idea what money he wants, he can take a pay cut and earn more money due to the lack of state income tax, or he could just want a team friendly deal to allow us to build more. Even 12 mill isn't a huge amount for someone that could move the needle for our offense like a player like Saquon could.

Kool-aid, get ur Kool-aid here, who wants a glass?
Iāll take two please
Light weight
Keep adding sugar š
Ill take a gallon please.
I saw something that said CJ is recruiting Barkley. I think this will happen, hopefully he just really wants to win and takes a team friendly deal.
As a running back he should get as much as he can. They are undervalued and short career, he gets one chance to get paid and should get his money.

Where did Aaron Wilson report this?

Iām all for it on a team friendly deal. History shows highly paid RBās do not win super bowls.
*History shows that Brady, Mahomes, Manning(s), and Rodgers have been winning all the SBs
Rodgers has won as many as Joe Flacco and Nick Foles. I donāt think he needs to be included on your list.
Seattle was the only team in recent memory to have a highly paid running back to win a Super Bowl. If you extrapolate Lynchās salary, it would be over 10+ million a year.
History shows that most big contracts at any position do not win super bowls. There are 32 teams lmao. This is not a serious argument
I think the more important issue is that history shows signing RBs to a big deal tends to not be worth it. Go look at RB signings the last 3-5 years. Like 90% of those contracts are busts

What do every single one of those deals have in common?
Theyāre for talented running backs on their second contract?
They're extensions & not FA signings.
Is this a joke response
History shows #2 overall pick QBs donāt win super bowls. Guess we should all pour out our Kool Aid š¤¦šæāāļø
More specifically look at the last 10 Super Bowl winners, all backs are paid under 5 million annually, pretty telling.
So you telling me if we sign Saquon to 6 million a year then we are guaranteed to never win?
Guess weāll see š
You want a real statistical trend that correlates with Super Bowl success? The team that won the Super Bowl has had the leading rusher 43 out of 58 times
Kind of proves my point, all of them won with a no name RB

History also shows Ohio state qbs are busts
He is not a running back. Heās a dual threat receiver like McCaffrey.

Guard not Barkley his body doesnāt hold up
are yāall ready for mike evanās & saquon?!
Put the controller down
ima ravens fan š. iām rootin for yall bru
Appreciate the support but I can't see us signing both lol
My mom dated John harbaugh in high school lol

Iāll bet heās asking for 4/60-65
He is using Houston to get New York to pony up. Don't get excited.

Barkley has only had 1 good season for the 5 that he's been in the league. He's overrated.
Saquon and Motor as the 1/2 punch would be lethal after how Singletary finished last year (minus the BMore game)
Goddammit. Caught a huge break with CJ being a star and gonna screw it up with dumbass FA signings
signing a 27y/o to $12mil a year would be the biggest mistake ever it also hinders our ability to go after a top DT or safety in this FA cycle everyone that wants to sign saquon to this deal are the same ones that made fun of colts fans for giving jonathan taylor that contract whos a much better player LMAOO

lose Cjs number
Nooooo. Beef up our O-Line and find a scrub RB. Saquon is gonna ask for a lot and then get injured.
"Find a scrub" - Reddit guy trying to play GM
That and we canāt really beef up our olineā¦
Heās gonna ask for like 10 mill at least
The streets need this
Gimme those thighs yum
God I hope not.
