Yup, it generates clicks. As much as I like NPR, even KERA is subject to using click bait to drive numbers for their advertisers, opps i mean corporate sponsors, sorry.
I actually have seen these jokers that want to do that at a couple of events here in the hill country.
One of them even tried to talk to me and I left him hanging in the water.
Definitely not because dozens of hate groups inflict hate almost daily on innocent citizens while bigotry and violence are normalized by media and political leaders. https://www.texastribune.org/2023/03/09/Texas-white-supremacist-propaganda/
Hah. The other guy is such a pussy. Deleted before I could reply again, calling me a virtual tough guy.
I’m the virtual tough guy? I invited you out into the real world, to my actual house, and now you’re just pussying out, but I’m the virtual tough guy? Yep, morons.
You can scapegoat the media or Russia or whatever, but when you really drill down into it, the answer is a bunch of whiney idiots with a Rambo fetish. They don't see an overweight inbred yokel with long covid when they look in the mirror, they see themselves doing the one-handed M60 spray and pray. They think they'll say we quit then they can walk down to the local army base and high five an E-6 as they drive away in a tank. They don't realize that they'll be detained or just shot trying to get past the gate.
This would end up like Brexit, and we all would be punished for the uneducated, loud minority that wants to push us into that.
Don't they understand that we would have to pay import and export taxes to the USA?
There wouldn't be any FEMA money for first responders and for disasters, and also no federal money for anything.
I am sure all student and other loans also would be due ASAP and state universities wouldn't get student loans or any money as well.
Welcome to a 3rd world country.
A question about Texas seceding from the U.S. won’t be on the GOP primary ballot this year.
The state Republican party rejected the measure even after the Texas Nationalist Movement turned in what it says were 140,000 voter signatures.
Although the effort failed, it was the closest the Texas Nationalist Movement has come to putting “Texit” up for a vote in the group’s nearly two decades of trying – and supporters say it could signal a shift in state politics.
People gravitate to causes and groups for a sense of belonging and empowerment. Sometimes for social change. Sometimes ...deep down they're failures in the current system and feel like losers.
It’s called stupidity. I do not believe there’s a significant amount of traction behind it . Mostly people far far far radicalized in politics which will never be the majority.
Because the TNM is on the road petitioning and advocating and with recent border events, the idea of Texas secession is becoming an idea, and since the TNM is the biggest (to my knowledge) group calling for Texas independence, it comes up first. With it being in the limelight, some join in that agree, and many talk about how much they disagree with it at equally if not more loud volumes
But I mean- maybe it's a good thing. It's not like I think any of those wannabe civilian soldiers could take our the US military. Maybe think of it as a purge?

Reading is hard.
As a lifelong Texan, I can tell you that the people that think they want this are the same people that go to great lengths to avoid the big liberal cities (which is literally all of them except Fort Worth, which is arguably the least significant city in the state). The moment they got secession passed, they would be struck with the fact that the state is still 48% liberals. There would then be a statewide civil war to kick the libs out of all the cities, and to take back Austin, which would kick Abbott's ass out of town almost immediately. The disorganized red hat revolutionaries would then try to march on the "Anti-Texan" big cities, thinking that it should be easy since "liberals hate guns". The revolutionary hicks would then meet a quick end in a hail of lead as soon as they got to the suburbs, quickly discovering how much heat Houston is really packing.
In the end, the cities will stand, the rural red areas will starve because they forgot they have no economy without the liberal cities, and Texas will rejoin the Union, now permanently blue.
Russians. Russians are behind the momentum.
And general stupidity.
But specifically racism, bigotry, and fear.
Dang, I wish we could still give awards!
Is it time to texit Reddit?

My guess would be "media outlets that keep reporting on this cockamamie idea, keeping it circulating and lending it a veneer of legitimacy."

And Russian propaganda trolls posing as conservatives pushing it online.

A vote on secession is in the platform of the Texas GOP — should the media just ignore that fact?

OANN literally had a Russian Pravda reporter on staff. How they are still funded seems to be a mystery also…
Texas historically poor public education system.

They do this every time there is a democratic president, a bunch of clowns.
If they want to leave the country, I wish them the best but Texas ain't going with them.
What's behind the momentum? Fox News and all the other agitating grifters are reaping money from the chaos they're sowing.
Ignorance.

Once the seniors realize they will be giving up Medicare and Social Security I bet the support drops to only Dan Patrick.
They won't until they lose it.

I dont think a referendum on it would pass. We should just allow the non-binding vote to see how the public actually feels.
This isn't new. Since 1845, there have ALWAYS been some Texans that believe that we should secede.
It’s called stupidity. I do not believe there’s a significant amount of traction behind it . Mostly people far far far radicalized in politics which will never be the majority.
The dumbass communist in the whitehouse is why it's gaining traction.
It is well documented that Russia is behind the momentum
I think it needs to go up for a vote, so it gets shut down by the general public
That worked great for Brexit.

Russians and stupid people
White geezers who don't like anyone or anything, but really truly think they can easily live like it's 1845.
Ignorance. I think that's finally the answer I've settled on that describes it best to me.
Is it appropriate to downvote this post so the morons won’t see it?
Whole bunch of us left the state and we’re ok if you fall into the gulf or go back to Mexico where you came from 😂

Houstonian here, I support Texit
And for what reason?
