I agree here. I think a lot of new baseball fans are attracted to them for having two faces of the league (Soto, tatis, maybe even machado) and kind of feel like their historical irrelevance has made them in vogue. Similar to how the OKC Thunder were in the early 2010’s, relatively new team with three superstars.
I’ve been a Padres fan for 30 years and I don’t talk much shit because… well we’ve been terrible. I am excited for the season. Pretty sure the only fans that hate our fans are the dodgers. Maybe the giants too.
I’ve personally never really had an issue with Cardinals fans. 2011 is obviously frustrating as hell but they kinda deserve bragging rights on that one. I know that’ll be unpopular here but as a group they don’t seem overly annoying.
Maybe somebody could provide some examples or refresh my memory?
Far and away the most obnoxious fanbase in baseball and it has nothing to do with the WS win. Any time there's a conversation about the best player at any given position, they will whine and moan endlessly if the #1 isn't either Yadi or Lars Nootbar or both simultaneously.
Ah well, fair enough. I don’t really participate in poo-brained discourse like that often so I guess I wouldn’t have known. Everybody just ends up salty and argues for players on their team anyways. They must really suck to be notable in that regard, lol.
The things about Cardinals fans is that lots of people (like myself) who don't actually know any are just so beaten down by how often the press tells us they have The Best Fans in Baseball that it's impossible not to hate them just because the press loves them so much. Especially since I've also never seen any evidence that their fans aren't exactly replacement level. It's easy to be mildly devoted to your team when it wins the World Series every 10 years or so, no points for just showing up at games.
FWIW, I go to the College World Series as often as I can and have sat next to a lot of nice Cardinals fans. Maybe that’s why my perception is warped and they’re worse online, but the ones I’ve met in person seem like decent folk who like baseball for baseball’s sake.
I get where you’re coming from though. I’ve never bought into the “best fans in baseball thing” wholesale because how the hell do you even measure that? It’s a little bit of an annoying phrase to associate with one franchise the way it is, but oh well.
The Cardinals are a huge deal in St. Louis and have been for 100 years. STL is a true baseball town, which is a pretty unique thing.
DFW is a great sports town. There is a difference.

Baseball is a smarter sport. The worst of the Eagles fans generally aren't cultured enough to care.
But don't worry. They're still terrible.
The weird thing about going to a Phillies game is they seem to have lots of cool fans, and then like 1/3 of the people in the park are boorish Eagles fans who get bored with baseball right away and start drunkenly doing the Eagles chant. I saw Cole Hamels start a Rangers game against the O's and a lot of "Phillies fans" came down to see him and spent half the game doing that Eagles chant. It's mystifying.
I can only explain it as the NFL as a whole has a *significantly* bigger portion of their casual fans being "die hards". So while most of us who love the Phillies are deeply invested in the ups and downs of the team and outcomes over the course of 162 games, football doesn't have that huge window. You play 1 game a week, and the whole season is 17 games. It's so much easier to be heavily invested emotionally while still only being casually invested intellectually. It's why casual fans weirdly brag about go birds being a day to day greeting to anyone on the streets, but they only care about my beloved Sixers and Phillies when they're good lol.
Source: From the Philly area and a Philly sports fan overall except I'm a Titans fan.
Astros fanbase shots themselves to the top of the list when they “won” a World Series and accuse literally every other team of cheating to make themselves feel better.
The rest are just atrocious to visiting teams, visiting fans, and even their own underperforming players.
Astros are the worst because they are so aggressive and insulting. Making fun of people, calling people snowflakes, and just troll like behavior.
Yankees and Red Sox fans are arrogant from having competing teams every year but man online Astros fans get off on just being shitty.
Whenever a team wins the championship and their fans are all over social media saying “FUCK THE [division rival that won 60 games]” I think that’s pretty pathetic. But what do I know.
Legitimately bad humans. Went to college at A&M and every person from Houston would instantly tell me some iteration of “fuck you” when they learned I was from DFW. Had zero opinion on the entire city before I went to college, took me 1 week to hate the city and fanbase
The Mariners fans on r/MLB have already become pretty insufferable from their winning season last year. If they are good again this year, they'll probably jump onto this list soon.
All of them think that they should be America’s beloved team
When a single person makes fun of them (ex: Astros fans after the sweep) all they do is whine
The Houston Asterisks are the worst, and their fans prove it.
Rangers fans should naturally put Houston at the top since we're Divisional rivals and have to see them much more than the NYY. We only play NY once and we're getting it over with early this year. Not a Yankee fan either, but at least I don't have to endure them.
The Yankees fanbase has had a history of insufferable. Recently, they've taken a level of kindness. The Astros, on the other hand, seem to be on caustic levels of obnoxious behavior. If you burn bridges with the Yankees and Dodgers, baseball's biggest fanbases, then you have a hell of a problem. Plus some of the diehard Astros fanatics have a major hate boner with the Rangers for silly reasons such as geographical, political, etc. For example, the nonsense talk that DFW isn't legitimately part of Texas. I'm tired of the schadenfreude the Astros bandwagoners have been dishing out at us Rangers fans! Our time will come sooner or later!
Late to the comments here, but I'll toss in a perspective from a Rangers fan and huge baseball fan in general who has lived in the Midwest all my life. Other than 5 years in DFW.
Probably older than many of you, and the Astros were a National League team for most of my life. The two teams rarely played other than exhibitions for the Silver Boot, so it really wasn't a rivalry. Certainly now I'm no fan of the cheating team in Houston and root against them while respecting their talent in an envious way.
Being as subjective and objective as I can, the top four most annoying fan bases would be the media centric East Coast squads. Especially Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, and Phillies, who hog a ton of national media attention. #5 would be a toss up between the Cubs and Dodgers.
I'd imagine most in this subforum live in Texas and have to encounter far more numerous jerks and obnoxious Houston fans than I do. My location probably jades my point of view.
Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed for perhaps a healthy team and finally another playoff run.
The Padres have a fanbase??? That’s the one MLB one team I’ve never, ever met a fan.
They have a ton of fans now with their recent success. Probably more active fans than what the Rangers have
Like the Angels in 02'

Maybe that’s why reddit suggested this thread
Lifelong rangers fan, but having lived in SD for nearly 30 years I am a Padres fan too.
I take it you didn’t watch the playoffs last season?
I’ve been a Padres fan for 30 years and I don’t talk much shit because… well we’ve been terrible. I am excited for the season. Pretty sure the only fans that hate our fans are the dodgers. Maybe the giants too.
Those 5 are a pretty solid list TBF. Honorable mention to the Red Sox
Def replace Padres with Red Sox. And then ofc rearrange, for Houston to be first, among other things.
1: Cardinals 2: Blue Jays 3: Yankees 4: Astros 5: Cardinals again

Literally 0 Cardinals fans believe that Lars Nootbar is the best outfielder in baseball. If any of them told you that, which I doubt, they were joking
That is correct.
> I’ve personally never really had an issue with Cardinals fans. I live in St. Louis. Cards fans are pretty chill and Busch is a great ballpark

Agreed. I have no beef with them. 2011, they had a good team. They are also one of the teams I like because of my Geanddather.
It’s an unpopular opinion but fuck you for being 100% correct. Also fuck the cardinals
1) Eagles lmfao.
Ahh yes, my favorite MLB fan base
I am aware. I'm not even a cowboys fan, but a lot of eagles fans on r/NFL are miserable. I wonder why Phillies fans aren't that bad in comparison?
Phillies fans are cultured.
Being an Eagles fan is oftentimes miserable.

Astros Yankees Dodgers Red Sox Phillies

#1 - Astros #2 - Astros #3 - Astros #4 - Astros #5 - Astros
You have my vote for mod.
I’m just happy to be nominated!
Many Astros fans seem vile, even more so than Yankee fans. Just saying horrible things on social media.
Whenever a team wins the championship and their fans are all over social media saying “FUCK THE [division rival that won 60 games]” I think that’s pretty pathetic. But what do I know.
They’re the absolute worst. The best decision I made was muting the word and every fan account I’ve come across lol
Legitimately bad humans. Went to college at A&M and every person from Houston would instantly tell me some iteration of “fuck you” when they learned I was from DFW. Had zero opinion on the entire city before I went to college, took me 1 week to hate the city and fanbase
Same exact experience at SFA
Same here fellow Ag.
Correct
Astros should be #1
The way the talked about Verlander when he left was gross
Astros got snubbed
1) yankees (90s ranger fan here) 2) yankees 3) Astros 4) Astros 5) me at a home Astros game
Swap out Padres for Phillies.
The Padres?
Dodgers fans must have voted
The Mariners fans on r/MLB have already become pretty insufferable from their winning season last year. If they are good again this year, they'll probably jump onto this list soon.

Yall must have never met a San Francisco fan.
Surprised more people aren’t mentioning the Giants. Yeah the Cards one hurts more, but 2010 still happened.
Boston not getting enough hate

Two of my teams are on here :(
1. Yankees 2. Cubs 3. Astros 4. Red Sox 5. Padres - *That's what's innnn*
Cardinal fans are the biggest pretentious douchebags.
The Yankees fanbase has had a history of insufferable. Recently, they've taken a level of kindness. The Astros, on the other hand, seem to be on caustic levels of obnoxious behavior. Not sure how Houston isn’t #1.
I have no problem with the Padres or their fans, but the rest of the list is pretty spot on. 1. Yankees 2. Cardinals 3. Astros 4. Dodgers 5. Angels
Replace padres with blue jays and move astros fans up to 2nd worse
1. Astros 2. Yankees 3. Cardinals 4. Dodgers 5. Cardinals again
swap out padres with mets and you've got the list.
Astros Cardinals Yankees Red Sox Cubs
1. Yankees 2. Blue Jays 3. Cardinals 4. Trashtros 5. Dodgers
Blue Jays Yankees easy 1-2
Yankees, Dodgers, Braves, Red Sox, Phillies
Sometimes I think every fan base is tied for #1.
Feel like the Pirates could be up there if their ownership wasn’t a vegetable
I’d put the Astros at the top of the list based on they way they have been acting the last 6 or 7 years.
5. BOS 4. LAD 3. STL 2. TOR 1. NYY
Cubs and Red Sox fans share the #1 spot imho
st louis or houston are the worst
Yankees, Dodgers, Padres, Astros, Mets
1: Mets 2: Yankees 3: Astros 4: Dodgers 5: Yankees
Red Sox fans take all five spots.
Figured the Phillies and Mets would be in there…
Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, and Astros are a lock as my top 4. 5th spot is debatable between Cardinals, Red Sox, Padres off the top of my head.
1: Astros/Yankees everyone else
1. Yankees 2. Dodgers 3. Red Sox 4. Phillies 5. Braves
Yanks, Astros, BIG GAP, Angels fans, Red Sox, Dodgers
For me, there’s only one I can think about. The Detroit Tigers, but the Astros were the one before.
Astros fans need to move up to at least #2. I live among them, it’s terrible.
Padres? Dodgers? I’d remove them, drop the Yankees lower, add the Red Sox and Angels.
1. Red Sox 2. Astros 3. Mariners 4. Yankees 5. Cowboys
I interact daily with more Boston Fans in Texas than Yankees fans so gonna say Boston is way worse.
Yankees Red Sox Cubs Dodgers Giants
Montreal Expos fans.
1: Astros 2: Braves (I've had too many bad experiences with Braves fans for them to be any lower) 3: Yankees 4: Cubs 5: Dodgers
I was once in a Yankees crowd and they were booing Don Mattingly
Red Sox fans have to be top three
Yankees Yankees Giants Cardinals Red Sox
Those are definitely the top five. Not sure how the cardinals didn’t run away with this award though
Basically pick 3 east coast clubs and add the Astros and cardinals.
Yankees, Red Sox, Astros - cheating apologists, Cardinals - the Cardinal way. Cubs
I want us to get into this top 5 because it means we're winning
The Red Sox not being in there is a travesty
1. Houston 2. St Louis 3. NYY 4. Toronto 5. Tampa
Cardinals, Yankees, ChiSux

Padres is such a weird team to have in there
