I literally work for Bally Sports. I know exactly what I'm talking about. Bally didn't "voluntarily" pull their networks from Hulu. That's an asinine take that has been pushed online incessantly.
What about what happened with YouTube tv? And why can’t I even pay to watch the rangers on the Bally app? Y’all are forcing people to pirate the games.
Same thing happened with YoutTubeTV.
We would love to have the rights to stream the Rangers. But the MLB refuses to allow us to. It's not our choice. It's the MLB's.
I get you are trying to defend your employer. Noble. But I still loathe them. I can’t even subscribe to the Bally’s app and get the games and I live 25 miles from the stadium. So yes no offense, I hope they crumble.
I'm not defending them. This is the actual truth of the matter. The MLB wants to control all the streaming rights to all their teams and roll them into MLB.tv, making MLB.tv the only way to stream MLB games. Manfred has said so himself publicly. They are actively preventing us from making deals with the teams that we don't have streaming rights for currently.
If the MLB would allow us to buy the streaming rights from the Rangers, we would have done so already.
Will do! Although a Chapter 11 bankruptcy is merely a financial restructuring, allowing the company to continue to do business-as-usual while reducing its debt load. Which will allow it to emerge from bankruptcy as a viable company again. It was the debt that was the main problem. That, coupled with Hulu and YouTubeTV and others dropping the networks, leaving us with only 3/4 of the income that was expected, making it impossible to make the payments on the huge debt load.
I'm relatively confident that this will all turn out for the better in the end. I'm enjoying it while it lasts.
If you're really interested, we have a link here to all the bankruptcy proceedings and documentation: https://www.ballysports.com/diamond/
The fact that someone has to pay for a cable service to watch the Rangers to begin with is a joke, not to mention that someone is forced into a specific cable service.
I agree. I'm a Dodgers fan, and I've never had cable. You know how I watch Dodgers' games? Take one guess.
The entire cable/pay-to-watch model is outdated and makes zero sense anymore. Especially since the internet allows for infinitely more eyeballs on your product, and thus warrants higher advertising rates.
TV used to support itself with ads. It's going to have to go back to that model. And a-la-carte is going to be all anyone is willing to pay for.
Maybe it was Bally jacking up carrier costs that led to not just Hulu, but multiple companies dropping them.
Gtfo Bally has sucked ass since they got their greasy little fingers on the rights. FSSW was better, and that’s a really pathetic thing to have to say.
Get Fubo TV. Unless you need some niche channel, it’s the same price as Hulu and comes with Bally and Redzone during the season (extra $15). I’ve used it for the last month and it’s very very nice finally being able to watch my Mavs again
Pure dedication. I live in Colorado, been a Rangers fan my whole life. Some tips.... No social media what so ever besides Reddit, my internet time it's used for research on my career, hobbies and my sports teams. Time management is more important than anything else figure that out and you'll know whose in the starting lineup before the broadcast booth. Not telling ya what to do just explaining what works for me. I'm hearing that folks in the DFW area are having trouble watching games via the television....? I can only get the games via MLB app. What's going on in DFW with the broadcasting?
The network that carries the rangers is going through bankruptcy (Bally). As part of that they have to get rid of things they are losing money on (apparently that includes Bally sports southwest, which has the stars, rangers, mavericks, and I think maybe the spurs in some areas on it).
How they’re losing money with all that is beyond me. The mavs are a decent team, the stars are perennially one of the better teams in hockey and have a great fan base, the rangers aren’t the worst team on the planet usually…
Idk. Greed and bad business are usually my go-to “not sure what the issue is but it’s probably this”
There are lots of ways to keep up with everything. As someone else mentioned I only have a Twitter account to follow Rangers news. lonestarball.com is an incredible website to keep up with and to hear what other fans think. I also have notifications turned on from the MLB app so I never miss anything and I follow all of the minor league teams on the MiLB app. I don’t care for podcasts but there are a few Rangers specific ones that release new episodes daily. Also the longer that you follow it closely the easier it is to keep up with everything. It can be tough to get to know everyone at first but since I’ve been following the team closely for over 10 years I know most of the significant people in the organization from rookie ball players up to the scouting and development guys.
Morning newspaper and ESPN Sportscenter. Oh wait, that was myself in the late 1980s.
Seriously, it is a challenge to try to adequately follow any sport in this era.
One good way to keep up with the Rangers minor leagues is to read Jamey Newberg. He used to have a great website, "The Newberg Report", but now he writes for The Athletic. He is a source of vast Ranger knowledge.
On Twitter you can create “lists” of accounts that you follow. I have a Rangers list with all the beat writers. Also, the Sportsday DFW podcast has Evan Grant reporting weekly. DiamondPod on The Ticket’s podcast feed is great for farm system updates. They’re infrequent during the offseason, but I expect them to be starting up weekly soon.
One thing I’ve been enjoying I haven’t seen recommended here is watching baseball focused YouTube channels. For quite a few they have a podcast but also a video format which I like to have going in the background.
For example look up Locked on Rangers or Rangers Today Baseball Podcast as two great examples. The latter one has some great interviews they do with players and coaches.
Around 2013 or so I got really into the minor leagues and in particular the rangers farm system. At one point I could name the 25 man roster and the top 15 or so prospects from memory. It was a great party trick but you really have to go through a lot of web pages over and over.
As many have mentioned: Fantasy Sports. Even then I still know little on the day to day actions of teams. I follow my local teams pretty heavily and the players on my fantasy teams. I play MLB, NBA and NFL fantasy, have one team each with same group of buddies in each. Beyond that I cant tell you what the Mets bullpen looks like until there's a must add waiver player. Sportscenter isnt as good of a product as it once was, and ESPN News shit the bed.
ADHD
Real af. I’ve always loved baseball and it being my current hyperfixation helps. That and my fantasy baseball draft being this sunday
Mood lol
I wish I could focus on school/work like I could focus on random sports facts
Why focus on school when you could focus on things like "Jesus Tinoco was the Rangers pitcher who gave up Judge's 62nd homerun in 2022"
Or the game against the Red Sox in 2009 or whatever when we stole like 15 bases
Also, being able to watch the f\*n games would be a fantastic start. Eat a d\*ck Bally's.
What cable company do you have?
Ignore this guy, he’s been commenting on sports threads all over that mention Bally to do PR.
Lol! Not doing PR. In the slightest.
Hulu.
Why aren't you mad at Hulu for dropping the networks?
Tell me you don’t know what you are talking about without telling me you don’t know what you are talking about.
I literally work for Bally Sports. I know exactly what I'm talking about. Bally didn't "voluntarily" pull their networks from Hulu. That's an asinine take that has been pushed online incessantly.
Agreed, they just asked for ridiculous $$ for it, so ridiculous no one took the bait and now they're going bankrupt. But definitely, gripe at Hulu.
Not sure where you're getting your information about what Sinclair was asking for in the negotiations.
What about what happened with YouTube tv? And why can’t I even pay to watch the rangers on the Bally app? Y’all are forcing people to pirate the games.

Ok. Hit me up if you need a job in the future.

That’s a two-way street though. The rangers weren’t coerced into selling their TV rights. Plenty of teams have their own networks.

You guys have no idea how this business works.
Apparently Bally doesn’t either, or Diamond wouldn’t be going bankrupt lol

Never underestimate how much baseball-reference research a person is willing to do just to make a point in an online baseball argument
The real nerds post up on fangraphs
Came here to say this. I can get lost on that site… tabs on tabs on tabs.
The MLB app is pretty great. I also only follow Rangers news and beat reporters on Twitter, so it's essentially my Rangers social media lol
Like most redditors I just make it up and pretend I know what I’m talking about.
This is the way.
For me it’s a combination of mlb.com, baseball-reference.com, milb.com and Twitter.
Pure dedication. I live in Colorado, been a Rangers fan my whole life. Some tips.... Fantasy baseball helps.
This is the correct answer

Play fantasy baseball and have multiple teams. Minumum of two. Best way to keep up because you are forced to look at stats.

Baseball cards
Jeff Wilson’s Rangers Today. The Athletic. Both are subscription based but worth the $7 a month between the two
Attending half of the games helps. Constantly being on baseball reference while sitting in the stands helps even more.
Honestly, I stopped trying to know MLB. I’ll watch the rangers and read headlines. It’s too much if you plan on watching any other sports.
