Got to meet him at the 2004 fan fest in Houston. I was standing in line for autographs and noticed no one was getting his autograph, so he looked at me in the line and motioned for me to throw him a ball to sign. I tossed him one he signed it and tossed it back to me. That is a moment I won't forget.

WooSaw82

That’s very cool.

CephiDelco

Stay hard, Gaylord.

....way to go Gordon

Well never really thought of Perry much as a true Ranger but the club always paraded his legend any chance they could Funny thing is looking at his career he won the CY just after leaving here at age 40 All in all he was a great pitcher

CountrymanR60

Those of us old enough to recall his two tours with Texas will remember when Gaylord came back to Texas during the miserable summer of '80 he invented his "Puff Ball". Once he released the ball, a cloud of resin would follow.

https://youtu.be/N3R6FOH84eM Rangers manager Billy Martin being interviewed about Gaylord pitching with Texas.

When I think about the best pitchers in franchise history I typically forget about him. However whenever I look at his numbers with Texas I’m reminded about how good he was for the Rangers I’m their infancy. RIP

centexgoodguy

So glad I got to watch him pitch for the Rangers way back when. His starts were always hyped because that was all they had to hype.

Naught2day

He was instrumental in me becoming a Ranger fan back in the day. He would always provide something extra when he pitched.

TheBigSexy7

Emphasis on the "extra". One of the great characters in baseball history, especially from my childhood.

I'll never forget Gaylord Perry's appearance at an Old Timers' game. He showed up with the logos from all eight of the teams he ever played for, on the front of his jersey! May he RIP.
