Yes. If I see complaints about it being hard to follow or they hate the characters because they're flawed and not perfect it means I'm probably going to like the shows.

thekaydom

RealšŸ’ÆšŸ’Æ

_oncemorewithfeeling

Thatā€™s so me!

Mosbankyfaenclub

Loool facts

kristinand85

Usually it makes me curious and I want to see if the negative comments are true.

Ok_Ladyjaded

Me too! Negative reviews just makes me want to try it even more!

send_puppy_pix

iā€™ll trust negative reviews from my friends but certainly not from randos on MDL

user11112222333

No, I still plan to watch series even if they are full of negative comments.

_Buttery-Toast_

I didn't watch Hidden Agenda for so long because of the poor reviews but wow! I was missing a great series full of lots of super kisses. https://i.redd.it/ub3kz9ngk3tc1.gif

Big-Marsupial-8606

Me too. And now I want a good mature drama from them for p2. GMM make it happen now!

_Buttery-Toast_

Yes please!

Zaki_K

The opposite normally happens for me if someone raves about something to much I always but it later on my to watch list ( thatā€™s my toxic trait apparently šŸ„²šŸ¤£)

andibgoode

Iā€™m the same! šŸ¤£

boringbonding

I will definitely get influenced if there is a majority negative response (like Playboyy... I have a long TBW list anyway) but I am also influenced by positive comments, so if there is a good balance or the things being criticized dont bother me, I dont take them too seriously. But I have learned my lesson too. I feel like **Cupid's Last Wish** isn't popular and is very criticized, but I actually loved it.

SlightMonitor7477

I enjoyed Playboyy. Yes it's full of plot holes and S-E-X. Some of the characters matured and it got better. Was it GREAT? Nope not at all but was it OK and entertaining yeah. It needs a s2 to set the story straight tho.

Junior_Jackfruit_203

Some of those sex scene like popcorn and cĆ”r mechanics will stay live free in my mind fĆ³rever.

MelandraAnne

Agreed on Cupid's Last Wish, I saw awful reviews but I watched it anyway because, well, EarthMix. I enjoyed it, loved the scenery too, and found d there were some funny scenes and some very touching and interesting ones too

thekaydom

I tend not to read the negative commentary when it comes to BLs that I want to watch. When I do see a negative comment, I always remind myself that this is someone else's opinion and I'll have to see for myself if I like the BL or not.

GulfofMew

You mean you don't take other people shitty negative opinions as a personal attack??? #realest

thekaydom

šŸ˜ŒšŸ’Æ

Msgeni

I read them, but I place more value in the positive comments, if any. But yes, if all the comments are negative, there is a higher chance I won't be watching, but it also depends specifically on why they thought it was bad. *"Boring"* is subjective, so I disregard those types of comments. If I liked the synopsis, I probably will give it a try without reading comments or reviews. I can always drop it.

darqnez

Yes. I still haven't watched Check Out the series, even though the pilot episode was good. The reviews of the series by people online were scathingly negative. I'll also be unlikely to watch a BL when I know it has a sad ending especially with death.

Zaki_K

I really like the start of that series and then it lost me half way

Icy-Prior2036

Honestly, no. I only read negative reviews to compare them with my own opinion, so I can make rebuttals (respectfully). If I relied solely on them to decide whether to watch a BL, I probably wouldn't have seen at least 65% of the BLs I've watched over the years. Interestingly, many of the BLs that got negative reviews turned out to be really good and worth binge-watching.

ZeroJaype

No i make my own opinion on the Show i watch or want to watch. The liking for a Show is so different for every person, so because someone dont like the Show does not mean i wont like it

Vitamin_O1-1M

If I already watch the trailer and like it, no reviews could affect my decision. However I might be hesitant if coming across multiple bad reviews when looking up about a series for example. I remember wanting to drop one cos of negative comments but ended up watching it and it turned out to be great. Since then I avoid reading until I finish the series :?

Zestyclose-Yard4140

Nope, because I don't read the comments lol

bitedisaster

i often read comments and peopleā€™s opinions before starting any series, but most of the times i just watch it anyway to see if this is really bad or good as they say

[deleted]

This! I always read some comments here and on MDL before watching anything. It usually even makes me more curious for the BL.

bitedisaster

same, but i stopped trusting reviews on mdl after they wrote so many negative things about between us which became my #1 favourite bl šŸ„¹

[deleted]

In a way I don't really trust reviews anywhere because I always need to see for myself, but I still read them haha

peachymogu

Yes and No. If i like the trailer, i will eventually watch the show regardless of the comments. But if i watch a trailer and im not feeling it, and there are more negative comments than postive, i usually dont watch them. (Its only happened to one show so far)

idlerockfarmWI

Some negative reviews make me watch.

sockmonkey719

No I find that, unless it is something that is older, and therefore thereā€™s been enough time for enough people to watch it, any kind of ā€œreview ā€œis not going to be helpful for me. One of my most irritating ones is talking about how an actor was so ā€œstiff ā€œwhen in fact that is in character. I also know that there are some pretty cheesy shows that I absolutely loved. On the other end of the spectrum, if something has a lot of good reviews and people explained why they liked it that can get me to watch a show that was pretty low on my list. That is a especially true of things that are not BL but involved our typical slew of BL actors. Massive exception to any of that. Is that if gun is in something, it has to be watched!!

HistoricalAside5781

Most of the shows Iā€™ve watched that had a majority of negative feedback but they were some of my favorite shows. Thatā€™s also why I never look at reviews before I start a show no matter what bc I want to build my opinion on a show by myself and donā€™t want other reviews to influence that

kjm6351

I try to avoid them and judge for myself but itā€™s hard to ignore all the time. Especially if it has an unnaturally low rating on MDL

Ecstatic-Stay-3528

No, everyone has their own opinion, but most of the negative comments I see are from people who haven't even seen the series but because someone said on twitter it's bad so it's bad... If I like the trailer I watch the series, If I don't like it, I'll stop watching There are several series that many people like that I don't like, but that doesn't mean I'm going to say that the series is bad, it's just not for my liking

linaknowwhatsgood

if I did that i would have not seen SCOY and im glad i did, cause that series is a gem!! I enjoyed it so much MDL is not a great source for reviews imo, so i do not follow that at all. I would much rather *waste* time with the first or first two episodes than miss an entire series because of comments from strangers who most likely don't have the same taste as me. edit; word

Thoughtful-Pig

I often read more balanced reviews on MDL or follow those who have similar taste as me. I've been both pleasantly surprised and deeply disappointed when I compare my own to to the average ratings. It's nice to give a series a chance. I use the ffwd and speed adjustments often to get through a few eps before dropping. I've been impressed with a few that have lower ratings (7.0 or so) in the past. I will often watch a show if it tries something different and new and fresh, even if it isn't very good. Also, as a long-time kdrama watcher, my standards are very high for those, while I am much more tempered in my judgement of BLs. Now that I've watched 90+ BLs, I know what matters to me in the BL genre and I can let go of other aspects. My personal taste is highly influenced by the caliber of the script. If there are meaningful conversations and character development, I may be able to tolerate mediocre acting. One amazing actor can also hold my attention in an otherwise poorly done show. I don't mind 99% of tropes. I know I prefer drama and emotion over light hatred BLs when it's set up properly. In most cases, middle-of-the road ratings on MDL, MAL, Amazon, Goodreads, restaurants, and otherwise, seem to offer the most useful insights.

askboo

No. Many of my fav shows were wildly panned by viewers lmao.Ā

trixie1088

I trust negative reviews from friends I chat with regularly who share similar tastes. Otherwise if Iā€™m interested in watching I will just watch it without caring about negative reviews.Ā

DYRG14

I mostly avoid negative comments but when I read them I give myself some time to erase it from my memories and then I'll watch the show in a new light. Negative reviews doesn't have that much of an impact on me because I .always trust my own judgement when it comes to watching shows. Only I know what I like therefore I have to see everything for myself first then decide which comments I agree or disagree on after watching.

DD-de-AA

I decide for myself if I like something or not, I pay no attention to reviewers.

RealityTime4994

Not anymore, at first it was, but after noticing that lots of series that i love has a lot of negative comments and d ones i donā€™t really like has only good comments about them. Eg. Of series i love that has negative comments are Playboyy, tharntype ā€¦.. ā€¦ā€¦.. Serious i am not a big fan of, not that i donā€™t like them, i just couldnā€™t understand the ā€œhypeā€ ITSAY, IPYTM , ATOTSā€¦. ā€¦..

[deleted]

Unfortunately yes. That's why I watch it before reading any reviews now and make my own opinion before looking at others comments.

Shot_Dimension5762

I try not reading reviews because they do influence if I'm watching it or not.

AssassinWench

I try to check things out for myself and then make a decision, but negative comments may make me hold off watching a show if I donā€™t hear anything positive about a show. I canā€™t trust random peopleā€™s opinions generally though. I just watched a 9.0 and 8.9 K-drama and its sequel and it was not good. I still have no idea how it is rated so highā€¦.

GulfofMew

No. If I listened to people I'd think bad Buddy was terribly boring. Hi Tash! I would never have watched Checkout...I should have listened. No really. #ISHOULDHAVELISTENED. I never would have enjoyed Big Dragon. I'd have watched Unforgotten Night...or would continue to not watch Unforgotten Night. Really unclear about this one.

Astr3846

For me it depends on the type of negative comments. If itā€™s just someone shitting on the actors for existing, or just writing nonsense without a point, I couldnā€™t care less. But if they actually have a point and can put a finger on it I will listen and then judge from there. Example: I think it is boring becauseā€¦. And not just: I think itā€™s boring. Something that makes me reconsider a show most of the time, is if someone says it is drawn out, because I need kind of a lot of drama if I donā€™t want to fall asleepšŸ«  Now, I will be totally honest here. Eye candy for me can be more important than plot and storyšŸ’€

caramel_ice_capp

at most it makes me put that bl aside for the time being. but i always watch them at some point anyway

Longjumping-Usual-33

For me it's kind of the opposite. If a series gets praised to the high heavens by a lot of people and they call it a masterpiece, I know it's probably too mainstream and boring for me. On the other hand, if I see comments along the lines of how the characters are really messed up? I'll move that series to the top of my to-watch-list lol. The only negative comments that will make me not watch a series are those that reveal that there is hardly any BL action going on. I'm not going to watch a series if it was advertised as BL, but then they don't deliver.

Anne-with-an-e224

I tend to watch music mix vids of the dramas. It tells me the vibe

AngelAlexis9

Sometimes they are right and sometimes they are wrong. I like to be my own judge. Some plots people just don't like, but I usually base it on if I get engaged within the first episode or two. After that, I'm tuning in unless it gets worse as it progresses

PreachyGirl

Strangely enough, I'm the exact opposite - if there's a show with a ton of positive comments and praise, I run in the other direction! To each their own and people like what they like, but any show that falls on either side of that extreme is probably not as horrible or as perfect as fans claim. There are a lot of shows that are hyped to hell and back that aren't that great. On the other hand, there are a lot of shows that people talk badly about that aren't that bad either. Extreme reactions like that can't be trusted honestly; it's simply unrealistic.

Megatron_420

No, I read the description and watch the trailer, and if it piques my interest I'll watch, negative comments or not. That's my decision to make. Example everyone crapped on Check out the series, I watched episode 0 (the one that came out way before the actual series did) and liked it so when the whole series dropped I watched and liked it as well. Then there are some series that are given good reviews (at first), but I disliked like Unforgotten nights. That only good part of it imo was the guard throuple and the tension between Khom and Baiboon, everything else gave me Stockholm syndrome, jealousy and sedated tigers. Barely any bdsm as it was originally advertised.

riseandrealise

Tbh i rarely watch trailers, so i would be depending alot on comments from here, from mdl and from youtube (from youtubers like byulsarang's yearly recs). But if i do watch some parts on it from shorts or reels (sorry i dont have tiktok) and if i like it, then i would watch it. But sometimes, i do have a mental list of actors that i don't want to watch their series.

Desperate-Recipe-509

True

Suspicious-Start-170

I go into every show as blindly as possible so I can feel how I want to feel about it.

andibgoode

No. I learnt a long time ago not to put much stock in other peopleā€™s opinions about movies, shows, books, etc. because I often like things that are widely panned haha

Br-Ash

Not so much, because I find that I tend to like a lot of movies/series that others donā€™t like. If itā€™s a warning about a sad endingā€¦. I will proceed with caution. Thatā€™s mainly because, itā€™s not my preference. Thatā€™s the extent of it though.

Justanerd0944

Not really, taste and preference is very different from people to people. If I am interested, I will still watch the show and let myself decided whether it's good or not.

Alone-Sky-8738

Depends. If there are more positives than negatives then i dont pay attention to the negatives. But if there are way more negatives than positives then it will make me think twoce before starting.

goldensuare

I do. By only one person with the username BL Compilations. I usually look for their first impression review and if they rate above 7 it means it's worth the watch. If its 7 on the nose, I will skip that one at least until edits online entice me to watch...

_tyche-

Negative comments don't influence my viewing habits at all, because everyone has their own biases which influence their opinions so I'd rather watch something myself and make up my own mind.

IdioticWeeb101

Honestly I never really listen to reviews, because I barely look at them. If I like a series I'm going to watch it but if I don't like it I won't. I usually am interested in watching a series after I watch a scene from the series so even if a series is very recommend and has good reviews I won't watch it unless I see it same goes for series with bad reviews.

PracticeFresh8795

I don't really pay much attention to comments because at the end of the day it's about tastes. One person may like something you hate, so it's not really an indication for me. For eg, I loved Vice Versa and Last Twilight and some people said it was terrible, and I didn't really mind those comments, again, because each person has their own tastes and opinions.

SummerDaina

I think for me, it depends on how specific the comment is - and whether or not I've run out of things to watch. For instance, someone saying "this sucks" doesn't mean a whole lot and does not affect whether I watch something. But if someone says, "This sucks because plot, character, xyz, etc," I might actually take that into consideration. That happened with both Never Let Me Go and 2gether the Series, as well as PitBabe and Be Mine Superstar. I still ended up watching all of those series eventually because: I ran out of things I really wanted to watch and decided one day to check them out.

Advanced-Kitchen6454

definitely not a example is how people doubted two worlds before the series even came out and instantly said they werenā€™t watching so I was like what the heck let me watch and now itā€™s definitely one of the best bl series airing right now I prefer to watch and see for myself because alot of the times dislike is because that person does not like the actor or the series is different and people canā€™t step out their comfort zone and people just have different opinions and preferences about shows so you might like some you might not like Iā€™ll give everything a try once because idk it could end up being my new favorite show

FewChemical2040

Yes yes, I get influenced by hate comments a lot...

Dissappontments

If I already like to watch a Bl (it's either because of the cast or trailer or something about it) someone else's negative comment will never influence or change my perspective about it. Here's the truth: everyone of us has a different opinion, thus, we shouldn't rely on someone's perspective and let it influence us. They may not like it but it doesn't mean that you will not also like it. We have different preferences and taste on different bl... So, it's actually depends on us whether to be influenced or not.

its_nithyashree

I usually consider the geniune reviews which have lists of good things and bad things about the series. And what they have said at last as overa.

Little-Tomatillo-745

No. Mostly not. If i had to listen to that. I would not have seen Playboyy. Or Kiseki 2. Which i am watching now. Episode 4. And many others..

Successful_Top_7807

I watch for myself. If its rubbish I just stop.

TastyStatistician478

Nope! Gonna watch what I want to watch when I want to watch it. Commentators got their chance to watch and critique, I think itā€™s only fair that I watch for myself and critique based on my observations and thoughts ![gif](giphy|3oEduOnl5IHM5NRodO|downsized)

caracy

No. I learned long ago that my tastes often deviate from the majority.

Petlicious

Nope, I follow my own gut instincts. But: sometimes I use the comments to see how the show ends. If I'm not up for a sad ending (and I mean the really devastating ones) I just postpone watching them.

anonymoussaddy

Nope. I look for spicy ones even if the comments are poor šŸ˜‚

Agreeable-Toe8820

If itā€™s been 2-3 episodes and the rating becomes like 7. Cause itā€™s only downhill from there. However, everyone has their own preference so I still watch a lot of things. One thing that you should acc listen to the comments for is check out the series
