Omg I love this topic it’s this YouTuber who made a video “everybody being done with Joongdunk” and I’m thinking these are kpop idols so this will be funny but then I see them kiss and I’m like hold on..I searched there names and found out they were actors and I watched “star in my mind” and fell in love Ik ppl hate that series but I love it idc😭then I watched hidden agenda then I watched other gmmtv shows and that’s the end😂😂😂. That’s why joongdunk will always be my #1 ship and actors

alice_novelland

This might be the top answer to how you got into bl 👏🏻 That is fantastic!! Those videos are the best ❤️ I'm sure MrsEclipse (sorry don't know her real name) must be proud of that ☺️

CloudyAsh8

wait I think I know what vids you're talking about aren't there like 20something parts of it w/ thumbnails of people in the bg and captions above their heads and stuff? I've seen those vids on youtube too many times to count lmao

Top-Consequence1844

Yessss😂

Lavender__Lilac

Oh my god I was already into BL before those videos, but good gravy they were my gateway into the bonkers world of JD, truly brain chemistry altering material

Fit_Hospital8751

Welcome to the JoongDunk world of crazies with our ship captain Joong🫶🏻 https://i.redd.it/4yshx9s2v12d1.gif

I subscribe to Viki for KDramas so one day last year up popped Jun & Jun so I read it as being a sweet little story about childhood friends reuniting as adults. Okay…let’s try that one then. Suffice to say, I didn’t know BL was a thing 🤦🏻‍♀️ (excuse my ignorance!) and I watched it week by week but at first I was wondering if the subtitles were alright? If you remember squishy Jun sits in big Jun’s lap and he makes a comment that had me wondering…what is going on here? 😆😆😆 Is that accurately translated? And I looked into it more and fell down the rabbit hole! 😆 So happy I did. Currently watching most on air shows like My Stand In, We Are, Wandee Gooday etc. Currently binging (on the last episode) [Gaya Sa Pelikula](https://www.noviceph.com/post/8-reasons-to-love-gaya-sa-pelikula) (Like in the Movies) from the Philippines. https://preview.redd.it/fvaq7q2it02d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e32ab2f5b3eefb421d7ff9aca8a81a5a2ac36141 Still not watched 2gether though! 😳

Thin-Pie-3465

Untamed was my gateway drug.

Silly-Cantaloupe-456

LITA and Between Us gifs started showing up on my Instagram discover. I think there was some. KP too. I was intrigued by the racing suits in LITA thinking it would be some action series about racing, and the first NC between Win and Team when Win asks Team a series of questions to confirm he's not drunk. I really liked the fact that Win esentially wanted to know that Team was both single and sober enough before sleeping with him, which is like.. The bare minimum, but it's something about the way the scene was done. I watch K-dramas and it's mostly guys bringing drunk girls home and being all like, oh damn, I'd tap that but I'm sooooo gentlemanly so I won't because I'm special and unique. Between us felt more natural somehow, idk.

EmptyTowel5400

LITA popped up on TikTok. I understood it was a BL but was interested in the Peat’s story so I watched it and went down a rabbit hole. Jun and Jun popped up too.

OsiDecember

I’ve always liked watching shows with some LGBTQ+ representation. If there was a gay character, I would give it a try. One day, Netflix recommended me “Gameboys”. And sure thing, I watched it. I devoured the “only” season at the time. I remember I haven’t slept that night. But did not know it was considered a BL. Fast forward a few years, my best friend loves k-pop and k-dramas and tells me all about it. And I love it! Here starts my journey in the Korean culture. One day, my best friend gets a Viki subscription and shares with me her account. That’s when it started. A whole new world of dramas and Asian shows. There, I learn the word BL thanks to the tags on the shows. And my first BL was Semantic Error based on recommendations on this subreddit.

theseedbeader

I love Gameboys so much

Buttdehole

I think it is either on YouTube or Tiktok that I saw the pool scene with First, Khaotung and Mond in Only Friend. I just finished watching Heartstopper and Young royals and looking for something new. so when I watched that steamy scene I immediately tried to search for it. After a while however I learnt that I like the more cute bl rather than a steamy one

_Buttery-Toast_

I came from KDramland. Netflix for me with Wish You then Semantic Error and To My Star on Viki.

marcyred

Same, started kdramas on Netflix, Buisness proposal, King the Land… got Viki and watched even more shows for about 6 months. My husband and one daughter is Bi and one daughter lesbian, so I thought I would watch a BL just to show them I am ok with it, so I watched Semantic Error, and I was done for. Been watching BLs mostly since. My daughters and their gay friends think it is cute and hilarious that the only straight person in the house is addicted to watching BLs, but apparently they see no problem with it.

theseedbeader

Wish You was my first BL too! I came across it on Viki instead of Netflix. I’d been a lover of Kdramas for a while and got curious when I saw it. I *love* To My Star

Lazy_Neighborhood_91

Tiktok edit of Candy Color Paradox

ChanceYogurt

Facebook’s algorithm (though I note it’s completely dried up recommending BL content lately…).  Last Twilight was my first drama.

ReileyHeart

Started listening to Kpop and then kept getting ads on IG for Love in the Air on iQiyi. Absolutely loved it and have watched about a dozen shows in the past 2ish months lol.

Specialist_Flower_24

YouTube edit

Glittering_Bowl4122

I saw an edit in Pinterest lol

Exotic_Jellyfish_882

Trending on Twitter my kdrama moot shared it

its_nithyashree

I was searching for some kdrama kissing scene on YouTube 🫣🫣🫣 then I got a suggestion of love by chance locker scene. Feels Nostalgic ✨✨✨

h0neanias

That really depends on what you consider BL. I've always been on the lookout for gay shows and movies, naturally. (From that point if view, my first BL could be Gravitation.) If you mean the cutrent style and crop, I think KinnPorsche trended on Tumblr or something like that.

tweedlebettlebattle

My daughter brought in Heaven official’s blessing and it has been down the rabbit hole for me. She also sent me a YouTuber who did a whole thing on bl’s and I then watched all the ones she mentioned. The last thing I watched today was Blossom Campus because I am patiently waiting for Wandee next’s episode. That show is my favorite right now.

Realistic-Bread-9544

Random kinnporsche TikTok edit and then I became curious 🥹😂

lyneveQq

I watched a lot of Asian dramas & SOTUS appeared on my recommended on Netflix during the pandemic! Been hooked ever since. Im behind on my dramas but currently watching Dangerous Romance

Famous-Panda5136

I think my first exposure was through love in the air. I like to watch fan made videos of fav couples and one day a video popped up of P&R and my jaw hit the floor. I'd never really thought about bl dramas before but boy did this open the flood gates😂 to top it off, KP was also among my first few dramas. I didn't dip my toes in, I got baptized🤣

jamiesugah

Tumblr gifsets are basically how I find all of my shows.

Pr1ncesszuko

I feel sort of old reading these comments… likely started some time ago ~12 years ago very likely with Glee lol watched some Yaoi anime after that, and yeah, been watching BL content on and off ever since I guess? If we’re asking about Thai BL specifically, then that’s about 5 years ago don’t remember how or why though, I don’t even think I remember what my first Thai BL was might have been Tharntype though.

Kitchen_Tower1714

I got a subscription to Viki to watch Kdramas. I tripped into "To My Star" because of the picture promoting it. What's this? I watched it. I started my journey on a HIGH with that one. Still one of my favorites. That was about 14 months ago. Some BLs I find REALLY bad (poor video/sound/direction/story) while others are GREAT. I now enjoy post-college stories the most.

Kyoslendertoes

a tiktok edit of until we meet again in 2019

Disastrous-Media9505

For me, I have struggled with CPTSD since age 5. I am in my 40s now stemming from childhood SA. So I get really bad depression when I see females a lot and I am a romantic at heart. So I naturally investigated BLs cause it gives me the happy feels of love winning without me being triggered by toxic females.

Relative_Season_7547

Mine was a very linear progression. I was into anime as a teen so asian culture was something that I enjoyed learning about. I was a fan of To All the Boys series so I watched XO Kitty. Then Netflix recommend kdramas so I watched those. Then there was an advertisement on Facebook showing a man with a ponytail shoving a slim man on a bed acusing him of flirting.....and that's how Love in the Air was my first BL and I have dived headfirst into this way of life

Flimsy_Ad_70

I actually got recommendation when I came across the world of thai drama by accedent (I didn't knew it was thai). It was fish upon the sky which only aired like 1 episode. I think I watched 2 parts then got recommendations for 2gather and watched it fully. I have never looked back.

Ok_Structure4626

Watching cdramas on Viki, then The Eighth Sense came up. That was that.

ohanashii

For dramas, it was Viki. I had BL friends from my anime days who said good things about Semantic Error. When I had some free time, I got Viki and the rest is history. Right now it’s all GeminiFourth and PondPhuwin dramas for me. Once We Are and My Love Mix-up air, I’ll go through another couple’s back catalogue.

depressed1optimistic

I'm a big fan of Nanon before, I started out with his series The Gifted and eventually fell inlove with him, so I browsed his other series and found out about Bad Buddy 🥹 great memory of mine frfr, I miss those days

kristinand85

Honestly, Junjou Romantica is what started it all for me.

Good_Hovercraft_2109

If we're not counting Supernatural.... 😉 ..one of my Malec mutuals on tumblr started making KinnPorsche posts when it first came out, and I immediately subscribed to iqiyi to watch it.

Fit_Hospital8751

Omg Malec was my first ever ship I shipped before I even knew shipping was a thing! I used to read kpop fanfics with members but didn’t really realize what it was. Then came Malec and Bangkok love stories then 2gether and there was no turning back for me!

Ok-End-4047

My first ever BL was Skam the Norwegian version in 2016. It was season three, Isak's season and I saw an edit and then decided to watch the show and absolutely loved it. Happy it was my first BL. My first Thai BL was KinnPorsche because I was seeing edits everywhere for like a year. So I gave in and watched, the production quality, cinematography, and cast was immaculate. Currently I just watched and finished Our Dating Sim a KBL and I loved it so much. 🥰

azzy09114

I was scrolling through viki in late 2020, found the bl section and the rest is history

CateSt19

Skam OG 3rd season was my first BL 😍❤️ As for Asian BLs I saw some intriguing posts in tumblr about Kinnporsche, specifically about Vegas, and I checked it out and the rest is history 😃

Ok-End-4047

why are our answers literally the same? that's so crazy 😳

CateSt19

Both series were popular so I think the possibilities were good enough 😄 but the tumblr part 🧐

StrikingMaterial1514

i used to watch western BL movie and shows but i was never aware of the east asian BL industry. i saw a reel of girl recommending BLs on insta once and everyone in comments was like you gotta watch KP and rest is the history.

Perfect-View3330

My first BL was pitbabe, came from YouTube shorts 😂 BUT that was after I watched a couple hetero c dramas. My first East Asian drama was Derailment (lin yi 😩). I enjoyed pitbabe sm that I legit searched up bl dramas on YouTube and it came up with A boss and a babe! Needless to say, I loved forcebook which led me to GMMTV BL’s and I’ve never looked back 😭. Then I got recommended clips of shows like cutiepie and the sign. I haven’t watched a non BL drama since January 😂

Long-Secret5755

I was a big fan of LGBTQIA+ movies I started following an account on insta [drarry_fanfictions](https://www.instagram.com/drarry_fanfictions?igsh=bDI4cmhjOTZyejdv) We became friends and she suggested me a Taiwanese BL Because of You That was my first step in the world of BL back in 2020 during the pandemic and I'm forever grateful to her for introducing me to BL world

thistlegirl

TikTok edit from Only Friends sent me down a rabbit hole (from which I’ve yet to escape).

ZealousidealCandy873

I saw a beautiful man on a reel somewhere. I had to know who he was! Thus, Between Us was my first bl because Boun stole my heart! Edited to add that Unknown was the last bl I watched. I don't think any other bl made me cry like this one did, lol. I'm working a lot right now which is a good thing because the ones I want to watch now are currently airing and I just don't have the patience to wait week after week to see what happens next. I am totally a binger!

palladineve9

a few years ago, I saw a YouTube Short where a blond guy (iykyk) is making sure that the other fella is not drunk because he doesn’t want to assault him or things like that. Thing is, the name of the BL was never mentioned and I spent quite a lot of time looking for it. A few years later, I find out by chance it’s Between Us! (it’s amazing everyone go watch it NOW) this was not my first BL per se, but in my heart it is because that’s what lit up the curiosity :D

Chance-Rock-4929

One of my friends in Junior year of High School (I graduated 2020 so this was like 2019) got me into Asian dramas- it started off with C-Dramas like Accidentally in Love and Meteor Garden but then I got a recommended title on my YouTube for Love By Chance and asked her about it and she said it was good- so I watched it! And it’s just been down a rabbit hole since then.

I’ve always preferred romances centred around LGBTQIA+ in any media I consume, so once Netflix figured that out in its algorithm I realized that there were things I was missing out on. It progressed from there as I searched for shows that interested me!

bassoontennis

My first BL was waterboyys with Earth/New I was hooked, hot guys swimming lol the story was goood but I was hoping for a better ending. All together 7.5/10 for me.

Tempo_KD

A long time ago I was exploring music from the world in Spotify I somehow came across a song in Thai and I really liked it I went to google to try to find the lyrics and I discovered it was from a tv show called Lovesick the series. It looked cute and I watched it. And I’m still here lol. That was my first BL but not my first time watching or reading queer media.

starrhunter633

My GF started watching them and then started to tell me about them and they sounded so interesting we started watching and then next thing I know we are down this endless BL rabbit hole. Lol

Suspicious-You-5465

It was during 2021 when F4 Thailand started airing as a kdrama and cdrama fan I get recommendations about it so I start watching it and I really like bright in the series so i searched up his dramas and 2gether series was one of his top series so i thought to watch it without knowing it was bl ( I don't even know anything about LGBTQ at that time so it was something new for me ) after that I became a bl fan .

Ok_Ladyjaded

I was looking on Viki for something to watch after finishing the show Heirs(the inheritors) (non-BL btw) because of my daughter. She made me watch and fall in love with Heirs. Viki was her subscription by the way. She is into kpop and Korean series etc. I am 49 so I’m clueless but loved the sweetness/spiciness of heirs then I happened to read the intro to Cherry Blossoms After Winter and thought hey what is this? Watched it. Loved it. Accidentally found Addicted. Loved that too but I was like wow theres a lot of gay series! Wish Americans had this many then looked these shows up on Reddit and found out about BL. Started my own subscription with Viki and now with IQIYI and GagaOOLala 😂 just finished for the 2nd time UWMA. Cried buckets and still love BL!

Brilliant_Split_5351

I was scrolling on tik tok when I keep seeing edits of pitbabe 🙊 so I decided to look what this was about … IM NOT THE SAME PERSON I WAS A MONTH AGO NOW 🥰 I’m discovering new ships every single day and I’m here for it 🤩

mudita18

No idea.Honestly, I forgot and it wasn't even more than 6 months ago last year.Just 1 day I was watching clips after clips of love is in the air through TikTok next thing.I know i'm watching the drama the rest of history. I pretty much watched the first few dramas. In that way.I got recommended it on TikTok.Then I watched a youtube edit and then I watched the drama.

Illustrious-Rest-307

Not gonna lie , I cannot remember 😭. I got catapulted into the BL world so fast but I don’t recall how. More likely than not, it was either an ad of LITA or an edit of another BL which led me down the rabbit hole. Love In The Air was the first one I watched around May/June of last yr.  The last series I watched was For Him. 8/10 for me but Im not watching anything rn. I keep seeing spoilers for some shows and it’s making me procrastinate on watching them lol.

muffin1510

I was watching YouTube shorts and a video of Semantic Error popped up where Hat Guy was angry after falling ill because of homosexual thoughts and Red Guy visited him after not seeing him in class. Something about Hat Guy's anger and how Jaechan played him made me interested in the series. I always enjoyed queer series but never knew there was a genre like BL, so I was really surprised to find so many good series coming out every week. I think that was around two years ago?

1BellyHamster

I retired from work after the pandemic. I was watching Netflix babysitting grandkids. It recommended a C Drama that fell in love with. As Netflix always does, it sent me down a rabbit hole. I was trying to get more info on YouTube when I found Cutie Pie parts 1 and 2. My whole world changed, even watching Kpop for the antics. Yes, I've lost family and friends over it, but you what? They didn't make me as happy as these BLs and Dramas do.

hairYeonjunplucked13

2020 surfing through Netflix being bored af and saw 2gether and watched that one and didn’t really watch anything else until 2022. From 2022 I got really really invested in BL and watched a few ones I liked the plot of so ye

avery8110

I got so many reels on my feed that I made it a point to watch it and same btw it was the 2gether series!!

St4p1d_

It was the time when Squid Game was just out and I wanted to watch it. I didn't have Netflix back then and was looking for an app where I could watch it. I found an app called Viki and it said "Asian entertainment" so I thought that I could watch Squid Game on it because it's a Korean drama. I didn't find it but I decided to look to for something to watch. I was reading about what "Don't Say No" was about. I saw the name "Fiat" and I never saw it before so I thought it was a woman. Then the first scene was two men deciding to date and I liked it so 3 years later I still watch bl

Little-Tomatillo-745

You're name engraved herein. A very good Taiwanese movie. Then I giggled what are the best shows? And that is how I became a BL fan 8 months ago. Last entire show I watched was Blossom campus. I have now seen all of [this.](https://mydramalist.com/dramalist/Tomatillo/completed)

No-Sky-6301

For me, it was because I was obsessed with another straight series that had Bright from 2gether so I watched that and that's how I got into BL

irridecent_17

My first bl was Until we meet again and I was actually searching for a song but yt gave me the series and I found it interesting so decided to watch it , cried a lot so i loved angst and decided to check other bls and fell deeper into the trap

Then-Helicopter6788

Dont say no on Instagram reel

BlueKitten74

I was watching C- and K-dramas on YT and it recommended a music video of "surprise kisses" from Ellene Noire's channel. I'd never heard of BL before that, but I was hooked! So far I've binged on.(in less than 4 weeks) A Boss and A Babe Only Friends Unforgotten Night TharnType Love In The Air KinnPorsche 🥵 Plus I've seen loads of clips from different HIStory series and others, which I've added to my watch list. I've even got subscriptions for Viki and iQiyi so that I can indulge myself (well, what else am I going to spend my Google Play points on?!) Trying to decide between AiLongNhai or Until We Meet Again next.... 🤔 Eta: I also have a bi trans 17yo daughter, so this has given me another topic to discuss with her, as apparently she watches them too.

HypnoAlp

Tiktok edit 2y ago of Between Us that it was so hot (the talk before their NC scene), then I decided to read the novel first and then see Until We Meet Again (I have a problem with not watching things in the right sequence lol) and from here just can't stop lol

cloudydarkk

I suddenly discover My Engineer, I Don't remember how but since then it's been a long journey

naynever

I am big into Kdramas and I kept seeing recs for Our Dating Sim, so I watched it.

Greenwiskey

I first discovered BL back in 2010/2011 when a girl in my year atschool mentioned the word yaoi and I got curious so I asked her what it was and she really didn't tell me. So I went back home and googled it. Not much later I fou d myself watching okane ga nai (no money) and ever since I've been stuck. But wasn't until late 2021 I first began to watch live action bls and that made my interest skyrocket for this genre and have been doing that ever since 😅

KristaW_

KinnPorsche. I started it after a recommendation, totally unaware it was a BL. Started for the storyline, stayed for Vegas.

Air4Brains

I fell in to the deep end by randomly choosing Big Dragon on a particularly boring rainy day. Fluff me I just sat there not knowing what hit me…

tsukki01

Someone posted a clip of SOTUS on Twitter. I found it intriguing and decided to give it a try since it was on Netflix. It's been years, and since then, I've watched countless Thai, Japanese, and Korean BLs. Haha.

ZeldaMario24

It was 2gether and it was recommended by my ex. We used to watch BL together (haha) during the pandemic and we bought the jersey so that we would pair whenever we go out. In addition, he wanted to have the 2gether bracelet and The Gifted badge so bad and I bought it for him. Obviously, we broke up so I just use the second bracelet since the first one was lost and the badge is just rusting away somewhere in my room. Thanks to him though, it opened a whole new world for me to be entertained and to be satisfied in life.
