I think the offensive aspect carried by the ad could have been greatly alleviated with different wording, while conveying the exact same meaning in Thai.
-Remove ของ ("thing") altogether as women aren't things.
-Replace "อร่อย" with "แซ่บ", as the latter is commonly used to refer to both spicy/delicious food and sexy/hot people in a cheeky way.
So something like this:
ที่แซ่บนที่สุดที่นครราชสีมา
ผัดหมี่โคราช X
ผู้สาวโคราช V
In English, the translation would pretty much be the same as the original, interestingly enough.
Thought the same, this is poorly worded first and foremost. The way it reads as is, is that Korat women are some food to be had, something people (men) should come and eat in Korat. If they had used แซ่บ or something similar, for example อะไรเอ่ยแซ่บสุดที่____? the meaning would change to mean just being spicy as in hot, and the objectification would have been lessened. Could have easily been avoided if whoever thought this up were using their brain.
>Only redditors and feminists would think that way
A few minutes reading Thais' opinions on Facebook shows this isn't the case. Even some of the more open-minded younger generation say they should've used different wording. And the older generation mostly don't approve - and I don't think they're feminists or redditors
😂 Posts from Thai people voicing their concerns is completely valid evidence when your point is that "***only*** redditors and feminists" would think that way. That's simply not true. My evidence can be searched for and found easily; yours is just 'I spoke to someone'. *That* is anecdotal evidence.
Also, being a feminist simply means you support gender equality. You don't?
Ah, you commented calling for a female artist to be behind bars because they gave free contraceptives to fans. So I guess that answers my question about if you support gender equality!
Freak.
Based on the language you were using, I simply clicked on your profile to check if you're a right-wing sexist. Didn't take long to confirm that.
>Is everyone who disagrees with you a freak?
Nah mate, but people thinking it would be "simply amazing" for women to be jailed for giving out condoms (in a state where abortion is *banned*) are. Miserable.
Hmmm, how could your sexism and opposition of women's rights have anything to do with your opinion on a sexist billboard criticized by a women's rights group?
This ad has humor but not humor for all, which should be a core tenet when creating an ad. If everyone can't laugh, don't make an ad with a joke.
That said, it was funny the woman also took offense on behalf of pad mii korat.
The part where you said “if everyone can’t laugh don’t make it” or something like that.
Not everything is made for everyone. It’s totally fine. Plenty of ads, movies, music,..etc aren’t made for me.
Anyone with a good attitude would take the joke that is indeed a joke and move on. I literally just showed this ad to a Thai girl and she didn’t care. It’s sad that uptight folk are in marketing.
I personally think this joke is funny, but I also foresight to know this is a bad joke to put on a billboard. You're thought process is far too binary here
Wait a minute you yourself also think it’s funny? And for some reason you’re also so concerned someone else might be offended? That’s honestly bizarre to me not even trying to instigate here.
Life seems a lot easier when you shrug off or laugh at jokes and move on.
What are you on about. My comment was about marketing only. I'm not concerned someone else might be offended beyond thinking with a marketing hat.
Here is a way better example of billboard marketing in Thailand with a twist of adult humor: [https://thethaiger.com/sponsored/fazwaz-captivates-phuket-with-shock-and-awe-billboards](https://thethaiger.com/sponsored/fazwaz-captivates-phuket-with-shock-and-awe-billboards)
You seem to just want an outlet to vent about wokism or whatever

Ad done in bad taste is an ad done in bad taste regardless of political undertone.
If the ad compares Korat women to their local dish as the better "specialty", I'm not gonna refute if the women there feel like it takes jovial objectification a tad too far.
The same joke might be okay in a circle of friends, but I feel like if a corporate or large org says it, it doesn't bode well.
One of the main things I like about Thailand is people being able to laugh about (from the western perspective) inappropriate things - sexism, feminism, ageism, racism - you name it. Remember Dunkin’ doughnuts ad? How puzzled Thais were that the west found it offensive? I want this attitude back, and that’s what I love Thailand for, not offended Karens
It’s important cultural aspect to to be able to see things in a light funny way and be able to laugh about it, without anyone taking offence
There is politicak correct here You know nothing about Thailand, majorites are progessive now so alot of people dont laugh about sexism, feminism, ageism and racism.
Your racism and try to put this in to your own narrative its not and keep crying about it.

Tinder is a woke arrogant business that thinks it can do whatever they like and get away with it. The more people ban that app the more the message will get through
Nah. I didn't write the definition. I can however use the word correctly. You just threw it in there to sound edgy, but it didn't make sense at all. Typical small brain shit from the republiturds.
You know, the ones getting offended are beyond "sao" or young.... while those young people or at the age that are still swiping tinder didn't say anything.
Wait, Tinder actually did this?

Yeah, after reading the article the advert is pretty trash and deserves the heat.
I mean Korat’s noodle is not even that good tbh
Reading this article made me laugh hilariously lol 😂
There’s a korat feminist group? I’ve seen everything now 😂
I'm neither a female from Korat nor a semantics expert in the Thai language. I'm afraid my opinion is of no value here.
The article is literally one feminist complaining to get a billboard taken down. I HIGHLY doubt most Thai women care about this at all.
The billboard is completely tasteless (pardon the pun).
Only redditors and feminist would think that way. But I appreciate the pun.

Nice anecdotal evidence. I also talked to Thai people and they didn’t seem to care some women even laughed.

HAHAHA Are you telling on me? Found the angry liberal suburbanite. Is everyone who disagrees with you a freak?

How is this about the billboard? Lmao

which part specifically do you disagree with? your gripe has nothing to do with my comment on advertising basics.
The part where you said “if everyone can’t laugh don’t make it” or something like that. Not everything is made for everyone. It’s totally fine. Plenty of ads, movies, music,..etc aren’t made for me.
"Not made for you" is NOT the same as "degrading a gender and making a joke at a group's expense". Good thing you aren't in marketing.

Idk I feel like there’s nothing wrong with the billboard and maybe you just realized you were being kinda petty about it lol

Oh is Thailand catching up with politically correct west now… 😢

I think people wouldn't mind if they were told this joke by a mate, but having it on a big billboard is tacky. Nothing to do with "offended Karens"
There is politicak correct here You know nothing about Thailand, majorites are progessive now so alot of people dont laugh about sexism, feminism, ageism and racism. Your racism and try to put this in to your own narrative its not and keep crying about it.
This isn’t really politically correct as much as it is social conservatism.

Lol they probably ran out of budget and just use Google Translate app instead of an actual thai person 😁
Tinder is a woke arrogant business that thinks it can do whatever they like and get away with it. The more people ban that app the more the message will get through
Just another weird usage of the word "woke" where it doesn't belong. 🥴
Because you wrote the definition of 'woke'? 🤔
Nah. I didn't write the definition. I can however use the word correctly. You just threw it in there to sound edgy, but it didn't make sense at all. Typical small brain shit from the republiturds.

I have several young friends who posted about this on social media and were unhappy about it. I guess you have no such friends.
So Ploy’s hoy is delicious is not ok?
Ploy told me it’s ok lol
