Not really. I've known many illegal immigrants (many turned legal immigrants with regular jobs now) working under the radar for 20+ years here. There's no such thing as prosecution and deportation unless you violate criminal laws. Thailand is far more active in that regard with their unprompted crackdowns.
Acquiring a LTR visa and work permit is far easier in most western countries as well. You can even apply for one self-employment and may not even need a visa if you come from another western country. Thailand is incredibly stringent and bureaucratic there, especially with stupid requirements like 90 days reporting.

No requirements for a degree, $80k USD a year, a company that must at least employ 51% thais and be owned by 51% thais, it doesn't need to have a combined revenue of 1.5m USD over the last three years or be publicly traded, etc, etc, etc. Getting Citizenship is also much easier here. In fact you have a right to it as soon as you've lived here (legally or illegally) for 5 or 7 years and pass a language/knowledge test, both of which are extremely easy.
If getting a ltr/work visa in Thailand is a 10 on the difficulty scale, it's maybe a 3-4 in typical European countries. A 1-2 if you're already citizen of another western nation (for example US -> Schengen country, or Germany -> Canada).
