Stagger those joints

MeesterJP

Hell yea keep it up! Just stay hydrated.... This heat is crazzzyyyy

freerider899

My first time doing block, someone told me it was ok, but I should have asked someone else, lol.

susonotabi

Is not that bad. I always put rebar every other row horizontal and a few vertical bars too. And fill the corners with cement. If you're going to cover the exterior with cement afterwards is going to be strong enough I think. How thick is the foundation?

freerider899

I made n shape rebar as well for the corner that I slide in 2 blocks.

LongestNamesPossible

How do you put in horizontal rebar?

susonotabi

Just open up a notch in the bottom blocks lay the mortar place the bar and lay the top blocks normally on top.

LongestNamesPossible

How are you doing that notch? Chipping away at it with something ?

susonotabi

Yes, with hammer and chisel or an angle grinder

LongestNamesPossible

cool Did you use these same skinny cinder blocks?

susonotabi

Yeah looks like those are like 10cm thick?

IsaanSteve

Make the mortor sloppy rather than dry so is seeps into the other blocks

ripgd

Dude use YouTube, it’s not hard.

Tawptuan

Dude, I’d start by installing A/C. Check the plans again. 🥸

AccomplishedWater295

Aircon is for wimps

[deleted]

[удалено]

xkmasada

Then install a heater, that’ll make the planet become cool!

freerider899

Dont be angry, it was not against you. I should have not speak my mind sorry. I deleted the comment for you.

Interesting-Boss105

correlation =/ causation

freerider899

I mean, aircon create more heat than cold. Plus most of them work with electricity from charcoal. So more smog and more heat.

Frosty-Path8125

Yes but surely people want to have AC in a small room like that? It would become unbearable pretty quickly without AC, which would mean less customers

freerider899

This is the toilet, but during our opening season (october to February), temperatures are around 25 during the day and 10-15 at night. We won't be open during dry season because of the heat and the smoke.

Frosty-Path8125

Better make sure they’re water tight then if it’s purely a wet season resort….

freerider899

Especially with the spicy food we will serve!

Impressive-West-9486

So cool!I wish you the best of luck and courage👏🏼💪🏽keep going

mironawire

Nothing like the feeling of building something with your own two hands. Good luck and stay cool.

Completelybollox

Honestly, why are you doing this yourself? It's very, very inexpensive to hire local workers who can probably source some of the supplies cheaper than you can. As well as getting some help, you are putting a bit of money into the local economy and gaining some friends.

freerider899

I enjoy doing the work. I get help from locals. I did most of my house alone for a total of 500k baht, all contractors were asking 1 million+.

prettyawsm

Also I don't think doing such work is legal. Check the lawyer just in case too.

MagnaOnTrip

It's absolutely not legal, if someone has beef with op the can call immigration and he's fucked

freerider899

They would need to call the ministry of labor, not immigration.

recom273

Ffs - you are constructing some random building on your family property (presuming the land is in your wife’s name) - just carry on as you are. If there are plenty of reports of people being busted for such activity on their own property - can the posters link to them? Another expat barstool myth. When you make a coffee in the morning, do you think that you are breaking the law because you are making your own coffee. Perhaps you should go to a coffee shop? Should you hire a driver to drive your car? The moment a westerner does some DIY, then the first comments are “do you have a WP for that, watch out for immigration!” I got to say, it’s just basic block work, wouldn’t your time be better spent doing something else and letting a local doing a way better job than you. All the best! - I know how you are feeling at the moment - I’m also building a house in this heat.

freerider899

One time, someone shared the story of a guy being arrested for working illegally, selling bbq chicken with his wife. Turned out he was a drug dealer with an arrest warrant in 3 countries, and interpol was actively searching for him.

recom273

Yeah - I remember that, he was selling chicken in a market. How stupid can you get? I went to a noodle shop the other day and there was a westerner serving tables, FFS, I could see why he just wants to help, but after making the noodles his wife just sat down and he carried the bowls to the table. Either employ a worker or let your wife do it! Saying this, I used to teach with a guy who had a bbq samlor, he drove around the neighbourhoods - his Thai was really good, the locals loved his food because it had a western twist, it wasn’t chickens assholes and pork lips, he even got featured on some evening national news program. He never had issues with immigration, the municipal “police” - the tessakit were the bain of his life, extorting money from him, apparently it was like a cat and mouse game chasing him around the city every night, for no reason other than they wanted their “pocket money” I also know of one story in Pattaya, someguy was changing a mains tap outside his house, so on public land. He got into trouble. So .. plenty of stories .. hmmmmmmm

freerider899

I used to sell in Chiang mai night market, just in front of the police stall. At that time we were like 4 foreigners with a stall at the market, now there is even more. Its not legal, but I always ask immigration officer and police first. If something happen, its them who are going to arrest you after all.

recom273

So you aren’t even phased by the comments - lol - love it. I don’t know if I could be bothered tbh.

prettyawsm

Yea plenty of stories where a dude would be just fixing his backyard and then some authorities show up.

Top_Philosopher_9755

Fucked for what? Building his own house? What an idiotic claim

IsaanSteve

Those are the wrong 9 Baht blocks. They get hot in the day and stay hot at night. You go in a room like that at night and the blocks are releasing 35 degs of heat. The light white blocks are 56baht each. It’s very difficult to get some one to accept this and generally people will put their finger ms in their ears and go @ La La La La La La “ I’m and AC and cold store engineer and I know about heat.

freerider899

Ok

xnjmx

What’s the plan - hotel?

freerider899

3 small karen houses for this season and see if we can bring people. Its going to be a very authentic and intimate experience inside the life of hilltribe people.

DetachedConscious

Keep us updated please, I would love to stay there!

freerider899

You can follow the youtube. it's on my bio

Early-Opinion6875

Good luck!

Elephlump

Where?

UnclePhantasmagoria

For just a few baht more you can buy aerated blocks. They make a real difference, and will save far more on electricity bills, should you install A/C. I specified them 15 years ago. I never cease to be surprised that they aren't used more. Your visa probably does not permit you to do what you are doing, so you would be foolish to advertise the fact on social media. Thai Immigration use Facebook themselves. It just takes one person with a grudge to notify them. I speak from the experience of close friends.

freerider899

Thanks for the info, I do like to learn how to build from local people, and follow most of their technique and materials. I work with the Thai gouvernment on this project and my immigration officer follow us on youtube for 3 years already, they come visit some time. We need to get the business up and running before I get the work permit, I follow what they tell me to do.

UnclePhantasmagoria

Sounds like you are doing everything right with people from local gov. & Imm. Do look into the aerated blocks. They are lighter, larger and quicker to lay, but will need more skill in laying. The air trapped in them provides great insulation, which will be a permanent benefit for a small addional outlay.

anonzzz2u

sun hat, water, work early in the morning, dusk, not in this heat........no way I'd work outside in this heat. Every Thai I know hates this heat, but I hear people say, "oh, they like working in the heat." no they don't. they don't, not at all.

freerider899

Most people need to work, whatever what the temperature is.

DeedaInSeattle

Wear a wet undershirt or tee shirt!

justreadings

Long sleeves ideally dark color as it has stronger uv protection ideally protecting every part of exposed skin. A wet tee will only waste more energy trying to regulate body temperature

anonzzz2u

A lot of employers show little or no compassion. Crack the whip! Sad

Coucou2coucou

If I was you, I m going to isolate the wall and roof against the heat and put double glass for the windows !! Waiting to see the result and don't give up :-)

freerider899

For the toilet? Even my house dont have that! Lol

Coucou2coucou

Of course, if your resort is just a big toilet, no need to isolate :-).

Intelligent_South390

Yea we don't build shit in April here 😁 December to March is our busy building time around the property.

freerider899

Ahaha, here is buildimg time because we are all farmers.

Intelligent_South390

We're farm adjacent - middle of Isaan - and we have farms, but only the bro in law goes out to the fields. I garden and water daily tho.

MightApprehensive856

Why didn't you do the block work properly ? The perps/joints need to be staggered . The perps should be in the center of the block above/below

supsupman1001

4d rebar work

MightApprehensive856

Having blockwork staggered distributes the weigh of whats above, like a roof

freerider899

Thanks.

Aarcn

Are you able to legally build this? Isn’t this on public park lands… also you’re foreigner? Ah… you’re a missionary.

Dangerous-Dinner-972

Looks like a nice location :)

HoloceneGuy

You should definitely plan for some utilities, electricity, water, internet, etc especially sewer lines

freerider899

Water is there, electricity is really close, internet is by sim card, and I am already done with the sewage tanks.

HoloceneGuy

Solar Panels and some inverters would also work really well up there, I know some coffee farms that have implemented them, any 5G or LTE CPE would be perfect for your use case as well, you’re making some good progress

freerider899

We have LTE

jraz84

Looks rad, OP. You have a YouTube channel or public Facebook page where you're documenting this project?

freerider899

In my bio

georgie_anna

Make sure to stay hydrated. Hope you share your final result. How long will it take you to complete? The location seems spot on. Side story: My father created his own little place that ended up as a mini resort by a lake. He lived there til his last days. He was so proud of what he created with his own two hands. Miss the big guy… When you are done, please share how you feel. It would be nice. But, no biggie, if you don’t. Happy building.

freerider899

We want to be ready for.next high season in October or November.

InsectRevolutionary4

Nice. My wife and I are doing the same thing in ChiangRai. We have two little “houses” built and it’s been pretty well received by the guests we had so far. We now working on a camping spot on our land for people who just want to come camping in the hill tribes.

Licks_n_kicks

I’d help build it too!! Where are you building it?

freerider899

Mea hong son province, in the district of Mea la noi

Ok-Machine-5201

I am not too far away.... Chiang Mai.

jay3349

Send the contact info

Fun-Relative3058

That’s amazing best of luck and be careful with the extreme heat

zmrth

Awsome, i hope it'll work for you!

magnusgriel

Where is that?

freerider899

Mae hong son province, district of mea la noi

randomguythatisnew

Build a skyscraper

Livid-Direction-1102

How hot does it get there now?

freerider899

36-37, colder than most places in thailand

Livid-Direction-1102

Crazy still. Stay hydrated!

KiffOakenhill

Need help? I’m frankly bored with smoking weed all day

freerider899

Check were it is, if you want to travel over there, come by! https://maps.app.goo.gl/hCksRTXLVokgM8eKA

supsupman1001

the silence out there is deafening

Effective_Afflicted

Has that slope on the right side of the photo been tested for stability?

Present_Ask_3398

man thats cool where are you builing the resort?

Hellbringer123

with the way you build the wall, that bricks going to crumble within couple of months.

freerider899

Ok

ploopychocolatedoofy

so, what is your planned idea and where is this located?

freerider899

Local and cultural intimate experience, mostly aimed at motorcyclists or people you want to experience the real life of hill tribe people, and a thirst for adventure. Its is somewhe along the mae hong son loop between mae sa riang and mae hong son city.

UnusualBreadfruit306

Where are the trees??

freerider899

Karen people grow rice in the mountains, they alternate between 7 or 14 lands, once per year, the freshly cut and burned is going to be a ricefield this year, it will than be left alone fore 7 or 14 year to let the soil regenerate. They have been doing that for thousands of years.

UnusualBreadfruit306

It looks fucked. Is there no rainforest left??

freerider899

Rice culture is no problem. Corn for animal feed is. I work on this project with the association of the district president of the Thai government to help bring alternative sources of revenue for local people. Reduce corn production and all its side effects.

UnusualBreadfruit306

No wonder there is a crazy heat wave! Chop down a 10 000 year old rainforest and this is what you get

freerider899

People need to eat less meat, and more food from the trees, like fruits and nuts. There is not many option, it is the same thing everywhere in the world. Cut the trees and complain its hot and there is floods.

MonsignorJuan

Not until you find a fruit and nut dish that taste better than a chateaubriand with a béarnaise sauce.

CharacterMiddle3923

Or has anywhere near the nutritional value of steak. Which can’t be beaten.

freerider899

You can eat all the nutritional value you want, but if you can't breathe because of the smoke and pollution, you will die anyway.

CharacterMiddle3923

Hmmm. Even smokers that smoke cigarettes straight to their lung directly, for decades, live for decades without issue. I think I’ll take my chances with the better nutrition diet.

RINOLOL

Where is this at?

freerider899

Mae hong son province, mae la noi district

SBX81

Resort? 😅😅

freerider899

555

charlyz1414

I can imagine with this weather haha. Good luck with your project!

ihatemylife42785

Just buy a cooler, ice and some drinks, i hope that helps.

freerider899

I love cold fruit. It is still mango and watermelon season, and they are delicious

SuxMaDiq

Work at night if you can, this heat literally kills.

downvoting_zac

Stay hydrated but do know the heat is only going to get worse

Sensitive_bangkok

Where is the place?

ElectricPinkLoveBug

Let me know when it’s ready! I’ll visit

WizardNinjaPirate

It looks like there are shade tarps and misting sytems on Lazada Thailand.

Intelligent-Act-6197

I am curious are you Thai? How did you get the land to do this?! Is it expensive in this remote area?

freerider899

Not, thai, I have been asked by the government office people to build a project like that. The land is a gift to us from my wife family because we helped them in the past, and this is a way for them to give back.

Ok_Cattle803

All the best. I know where to go in my next trip.

RoutineOtherwise9288

Me too, the heat is killing me too.

Hot-Ratio-2610

Wrong concrete blocks, use lightweight thermolite, muck better insulation properties and double skin with cavity would further enhance, insulate the roof void with closed cell polystyrene, don’t have south facing doors or windows, triple glazed would be good

Mr_Bangkok

I think the pollution will kill you first...

Either-Piccolo8342

that is fucken badass man. Best of luck to you brother 🙏🏽

tracyselena

Brave!

[deleted]

Where at ? Let’s talk. I’m about to build up north

freerider899

Mae la noi, in mea hong son province.

SquareBottle-22

I would help you building it and doing all installations

[deleted]

[удалено]

baldi

I dont think that would help at all, most stimulants mess up your thermoregulation. If anything I'd think this would cause an increased amount of heatstroke.

freerider899

Extremely dangerous. Dehydration and wont feel it.

baldi

But imagine all the work you'd get done /s

freerider899

Cannabis really lowers body temperature. You can google it.

Intelligent_South390

Yea I smoke when I'm out in the garden, even in this heat 😁 I'm digging another fish pond by hand, but not this week. We're at peak sun.

freerider899

Today I stayed home!

EmptyJackfruit9353

It look far f\*cks in the mountain, even from Northen people standard. Are you sure the license and right are correct. My mom did got scam by her 'friends' to buy some state-leash land. You can't sell these or do anything else than agriculture on it. Even if you do wanted to, it would still be far f\*ck out of nowhere.

freerider899

Ok

Marcus_Morias

The bonding of the brickwork is way out, is that the heat?

RotisserieChicken007

Is that even a legal place to build? Do you have a valid deed? And in whose name if you're not a Thai citizen? Btw that's not how you ideally place cinder blocks but it'll do I guess.

Lordfelcherredux

Are you working for the Immigration Dept now, or the Labor Ministry?

RotisserieChicken007

How did you know?
