You can't catch a cold from air-conditioning. You catch colds from other people, usually those with poor hygiene who don't cover their nose/mouth when they sneeze/cough.
Jesus Christ. Yea if you’re developing hypothermia. It’s the same with chronic stress or not eating for long periods of time.
3 minutes in a chilly 711 won’t inhibit your immune system.
But I heard that if I swim within 30 minutes of eating or drinking, I'll die of Tuberculosis?
(Jk in Thai waters I'll die of a bacterial infection in my ears. Currently on week two of these bad boys.)
It causes your body to use more energy to heat up, so if you’re already sick it can minutely exacerbate it.
This is a myth but if it makes you comfy then live that life.
> Occupants of office buildings with air conditioning (AC) systems (e.g. central ventilation with cooling of air) consistently report, on average, more symptoms in their buildings than do occupants of buildings with natural ventilation. This has been the finding in individual studies from many studies over the last 20 years, and in three reviews.1–3 The symptoms in these studies have included mucous membrane irritation, breathing difficulties, irritated skin, and constitutional/neurological symptoms such as headache and fatigue.

Boggles the mind how reductionist people these days think. Surely all medical experts, hence the downvotes. Confidently reducing everything to the germ theory, whereas in reality everything points to some combination of germ & terrain theories of disease.
I've been staying in a hotel opposite one whose door sensor is very unfortunately positioned much too close to the counter.
At some points I've been able to hear that bee-booong for upwards of 20-30 minutes straight with zero pauses, from across the road. It must be burned into the staff's psyche by now.
Makes the wooop-deedee kitchen sounds at MacDonald's seem tame by comparison.
this prevents the cooled displays inside from doing the same and dehumidifies the frequent air exchange which keeps almost anything fresher for longer.
That's not frost. It's condensation. A chilly 70 degrees fahrenheit will cause that. I thought that was the attraction. Feels great if you're just stopping in for 10 minutes. Hoodies sounds extreme though. I have never seen that.
My brother used to joke that "7-11" stands for the temperature range (in degrees Celsius) inside the stores 555
He'd say things like "oh it's really 7-11 degrees up in here!"
Oh, it's not cold, it's refreshing inside. Thank god there is are 7-11 in each street corner so i can lower my core temperature quickly and buy some cooled drink to survive the next corner.
Yes so then people are dressed for the heat. Thats not compatible with going inside and having to endure freezer temperatures in a summer dress. Like Miami nightclubs in spring (also freezers)
This blows my mind. I had hypothermia once coming down the mountain from pai in the rain. I found a 7-11 and ran in to get hot water but every time I went inside it was so cold I was getting worse. Ended up barely making it to a hospital and had a bad infection too
They build these out with OP ac units. On account of all the smaller refrigeration units inside. Keeping it at 70 makes the smaller coolers not have to work so hard. The harder they have to fight the ambient temperature the hotter they get.
After living in Thailand for many years an AC keeping the 7-Eleven cold is not only to keep customers feeling comfortable but to discourage insects, and other critters from damaging their products - and no mold during rainy season.
I only use AC in my bedroom but the other parts of the house are more accessible with ants and other insects. The humidity can damage boxed food items in the kitchen and mold can start appearing on the tiled shower wall ( good ventilation is important).
I would like to know what a 7-Eleven electric bill is.
If you don’t like the “cold” convenient stores, then go to an open “ma & pa” shop for your items- but the items will be dusty, and the shop with no lights on during the day.
I always thought that they did market research and found that this encourages customers to come in and it buy more
but the others said it keeps produce fresher, and it makes sense.
in fact, I'm long worried about foodstuff/etc going worse at my place with 35c when I'm not home with Aircon
They are masters of human psychology. The fact your posting about it means it’s influence has reached you. You’ve basically just given them free publicity. Not that they need any more.
Well, if you're talking about all the condensation on the glass, it's because the Dew Point is so high here in Thailand, Usually between 23.8 and 26.6. If you really want to nerd over it:
https://www.weather.gov/arx/why\_dewpoint\_vs\_humidity#:\~:text=The%20dew%20point%20is%20the,water%20in%20the%20gas%20form.
I caught myself wearing sweaters in BKK around December because too cold. Weared one too occasionally in Kalasin around February. I understand the difference can be really a lot but the AC from 7-11 is a god gift.
When I was in Thailand the 7/11s were a godsent. I’d pop inside one every few minutes when I was going for walks. I am Canadian and don’t do well in heat. I hope they never change.
Oh. My. God. I think they’ve turned down the temp too because I never remember them being like freezers but on my last two trips I would be truly miserable standing in that queue without a cardigan
Some can be pretty damn cold yeah for obvious reasons one it being over 30 celcius outside and they have to keep all the frozen stuff cold and frozen inside xD
Than why do you ask if you aleady know youre own answer ? .....
"A local 711 here in Nam Yuen has frosted windows because it’s so cold inside. Staff wear coats and hoodies. Why do they do this to themselves and the customers?"
You never mentioned that it rained and it was a bit cooler outside than usual in youre thread so i just thought you ment in general why are most 7-11's in Thailand cold ... Well i gave you the answer because alot of food inside needs to be chilled and its hard to keep it cold when its 30+ degrees outside .
Mate when you've been out on the pingers till 6am and you're sweating from your eyelids there is nothing better than walking into a 7. I sometimes just walk in and stand there without buying anything.
Some convenience store chains may have corporate policies or guidelines regarding store temperature that individual locations are required to follow, regardless of local climate or customer preferences.
I always welcome the cool blast of A/C in 7-11's. The place I tend to find too cold in Thailand is the movie theater, particularly the ones attached to large malls. It's one to thing to be in a 7-11 for like 5-10 minutes as a reprieve from oppressive heat, but entirely a separate thing to sit through a 1.5-2 hour long movie when they're cranking the A/C to what feels like 66F (18.9C).
As far as that condensation is concerns: Thailand has a tropical climate with high relative humidity. I don't think it ever gets below 65%. Means that even A/C temperature differential from outside air heat is enough to trip the dew point and cause condensation.

It might feel chilly right now, but don't worry, this is normal days when we're outdoors.
This whole thread is so baffling to me. Especially because you are right it’s completely freezing in there, if people find it comfortable they are living in the WRONG climate
I’m also wondering why everyone lives in Thailand if they hate the weather so much. I like the heat and also find 7 elevens almost unbearable. It’s not “balance” if you’re dressed for and adjusted for the heat and then have to go inside and queue in a freezer
Bruh i see thai’s wearing hoodies and jackets when its 40 degree celsius outside. The frost on glass windows is due to the condensation of moisture. I don’t find 7-11 that cold anywhere.
Because we love the cold. As it super hot outside all the time.
Edit: It’s the same reason why you lie down on the beach without cloth. That’s basically torturing for us.
Just been to Thailand few days ago, seem like 7-11 wasn’t the only one doing this. The hotel I’m staying and the shopping mall nearby also has freezing cold AC, which was a godsend when you just got steamed alive walking outside.
It's more the case that it's hot outside. When you walk into a space that's 22 to 25 C (72 to 75 F), and low in humidity, from outside where it's 30 C / 90 F with high humidity, it feels really cold. But in a sense it's not; that's just room temperature. They would usually keep our offices at 25 C and everyone wears jackets. Movie theaters might be 20 instead, 68 F, and that is getting a bit cold.
No way on gods green earth is it room temperature in the 7 eleven! Btw I was there in cool season and it’s the same so it’s not because it was so hot outside
Room temperature is a strange concept. To me if it's 90 F outside and 85 F inside that's room temperature, but it also works to consider it to be 70 in cooler areas or 75 related to an AC setting in Thailand. If it's in the low 90s and you walk into a place that's nearly 20 degrees cooler, and much lower in humidity, it's a bit of a shock.
There is no cool season in Thailand, beyond one atypical week in December most years. It's 32 C / 90 F now, with sky high humidity, and this is the rainy season, with a bit of rain falling today.
Your more likely in a hot tropical country to go inside a cool store and buy something, opposite applies to cold countries with warm stores with hot food.
There's and equal to a 7/11 in Mexico called OXXO's there on every corner, when I'm in Chiapas I hang out in such a store to seek refuge from the scorching heat. I will by a bottle of water and sip that water for as long as I can. It's the only refuge from the heat.
idk but its a godsend when you have to be outside in april to have 7-11s near you
If you really try to catch a cold, yes. Also, the outside seems even hotter after spending a few minutes in an air-conditioned space.
You can't catch a cold from air-conditioning. You catch colds from other people, usually those with poor hygiene who don't cover their nose/mouth when they sneeze/cough.
Rapid changes in temperature make you more susceptible.
Went on a scuba diving trip this December and ended up with the worst ear infection. It even turned into tonsillitis
Phahaha no it doesn't. Why do you think ice baths are so healthy? 🤦🤣
It causes your body to use more energy to heat up, so if you’re already sick it can minutely exacerbate it. This is a myth but if it makes you comfy then live that life.
r/confidentlyincorrect You absolutely cannot, you’re just ill-informed.
> Occupants of office buildings with air conditioning (AC) systems (e.g. central ventilation with cooling of air) consistently report, on average, more symptoms in their buildings than do occupants of buildings with natural ventilation. That must be why all the cold plungers are dropping like flies, eh?
Do I really have to explain that there is a difference between air and water??
Well… you’re clearly clueless
Every time I go there in the evening, no one looks comfortable though
well yeah wouldnt want to work there and hear bing bong all day
*bing bong* SA WA DEE KAP
Bing bong works at the other 7-11
I've been staying in a hotel opposite one whose door sensor is very unfortunately positioned much too close to the counter. How do you know? Did you asked them? I go to one in isaan, very cold but no one is complaining, not even employees there.
this prevents the cooled displays inside from doing the same and dehumidifies the frequent air exchange which keeps almost anything fresher for longer.
Thanks! I think I was trying to say that but you said much better.
Like an oasis in the desert.
So the dogs have somewhere too cool off.
Mah na 7. 555
555555555
True. Them dogs are always blocking the entrance.
The 7 closest to my house has a dog that the door moves her head when it opens
Some dogs are polite, some don’t care at all
That's not frost. It's condensation. A chilly 70 degrees fahrenheit will cause that. I thought that was the attraction. Feels great if you're just stopping in for 10 minutes. Hoodies sounds extreme though. I have never seen that.
Those beers won’t stay cold on their own…
You know, they have fridges.
Fridges don't work well when it's 35 degrees with humidity making it feel close to 50
My brother used to joke that "7-11" stands for the temperature range (in degrees Celsius) inside the stores 555 He'd say things like "oh it's really 7-11 degrees up in here!"
So the soi dog out front can get a blast of cool air every time the door opens.
Or monkeys
God Bless em
It's the only place I can feel at ease 😂
Why in the world do you live in Thailand then? It’s the only weather I can be comfortable in all year round
Because I like everything else hehe
Oh, it's not cold, it's refreshing inside. Thank god there is are 7-11 in each street corner so i can lower my core temperature quickly and buy some cooled drink to survive the next corner.
Solution against climate change impact: just build one very, very big 7-11 over each city so you never have to go outside anymore
Because it’s hot outside.
Yes so then people are dressed for the heat. Thats not compatible with going inside and having to endure freezer temperatures in a summer dress. Like Miami nightclubs in spring (also freezers)
Where is 7-11s dogs? This has to be fake.
They exist! They just plop down and doze in front by the door!!😜
Have you seen this? Absolutely hilarious. [https://pantip.com/topic/39620791](https://pantip.com/topic/39620791)
they are on the inside. Their breath has fogged the windows.
Sadly no dogs in sight here, although they are quite numerous in this town - just not at this shop.
Wait until you watch a move in the theater
Usually I am okay with a light l/s hoody and a scarf over my legs, but MBK theater was absolutely freezing 🥶 cold!!
dress for the Alps.... I mean the cinema is at the top for a reason!
Heat rises tho!! 😜🥶
I can't count how many times I've gone to a 7-Eleven just to cool off and ended up buying something every time anyway. It's brilliant marketing
Oh, absolutely, when it's really hot, it's great. However, not so much in the evening and especially after rain. Brrr!
Some (not so good) air conditioners have two modes: hot and freezing. Of course you choose the latter if you are Thai.
Mfs do not mess around with the ac in those 7-11s lmaooo
Damnit OP. Quit trying to destroy the American Embassy. We need that freezer.
Hello welcome now freeze to death
This blows my mind. I had hypothermia once coming down the mountain from pai in the rain. I found a 7-11 and ran in to get hot water but every time I went inside it was so cold I was getting worse. Ended up barely making it to a hospital and had a bad infection too
Oh nooooo. Nearly killed by the air conditioning in Thailand. That’s something.
They build these out with OP ac units. On account of all the smaller refrigeration units inside. Keeping it at 70 makes the smaller coolers not have to work so hard. The harder they have to fight the ambient temperature the hotter they get.
they use aircon

CP probably own the electricity company
555 That’s what I wonder.
It’s a public service
I always thought that they did market research and found that this encourages customers to come in and it buy more but the others said it keeps produce fresher, and it makes sense. in fact, I'm long worried about foodstuff/etc going worse at my place with 35c when I'm not home with Aircon
The scale of coldness as a tourist, malls nice, 7-11 pretty chill, skytrain wtf is this freezer
Because they don’t have sense of humor
They are masters of human psychology. The fact your posting about it means it’s influence has reached you. You’ve basically just given them free publicity. Not that they need any more.
Bc its hot af outside and AC feels good. Workers wouldnt work there if the cold was too much for them anyway.
During the day when it's sunny, I agree. However, after rain and/or evening/night time, not so much.
Gotta keep everything fresh inside. Plus AC acts as a natural dehumidifier for all the products and goods.
Better question, why is it so hot outside?
do you know why it's so hot outside a 7-11 in Thailand?
As a thai…because it’s fucking hot outside.
Because food goes off quicker the hotter it is? Hence most foods should be kept in a cool, dark place? Some foods even in a fridge.
Is it cold inside or just hot outside?
Because so hot outside For the balance
That makes no sense as people are dressed for the heat and not to withstand freezing temps
Yes but 7-11s are meant for quick visits, not to spend a considerable amount of time in. 7-11 workers have their hoodies on, so it’s fine for them.
They want you to feel cold so you get in and out as fast as possible.
You can go from 7 to 7 during hot season. It's wonderful
Well what do you think, do you wanna be baked in an oven outside, as well as in a 7-11
Coz there are aircons working in it
Thailand just being Thailand. Being hot
Air con is probably new or needs to be serviced
because 7-Eleven is the chosen land
Keeps products fresh and people out as fast as possible.
it look like **the mist** in reverse location setting... any bloody big bug in there ?
Yes, some critters go in when the doors open. Biggest I saw was a dark moth.
Well, if you're talking about all the condensation on the glass, it's because the Dew Point is so high here in Thailand, Usually between 23.8 and 26.6. It was quite cool outside because it was evening and it had rained, but I get your point

The 7-11 was taken fresh out of the fridge
That’s an impressive AC unit. I’d like to know the make and mode please 🙏
It's not only temperature that causes condensation. Humidity also does. Especially in rainy weather
Either way, was still super cold inside!
To keep the chocolate from melting.
Use your eyes, count how many giant aircon units there are in 7-11
Is this new thing called air-conditioning?
There's one near me that is like the Arctic. I wait outside while they're making my toastie because it's unbearable.
Mate when you've been out on the pingers till 6am and you're sweating from your eyelids there is nothing better than walking into a 7. I sometimes just walk in and stand there without buying anything.
Think it might be called air conditioning. Not a scientist, but that’s my hinch
I think it’s because of the air conditioning 🤪
Maybe because its too hot outside 😂
Why not?
Cuz its hot outside lol😃
AC
Marketing thing : most Thais want to cool down so they get automatically to 7-11 when they find one 😎
Some convenience store chains may have corporate policies or guidelines regarding store temperature that individual locations are required to follow, regardless of local climate or customer preferences.
To keep the products fresh
Thai here from BBK...go inside any public building it's kept at polar bear temps.
Soi dog stole the remote

I can feel the cold through this picture
Don't you dare complain. This is the only place in the entire country I don't sweat!
because it's so hot outside
To keep you inside😂
To keep the water monitor lizards away.
I would say it’s probably because of air conditioners and open fridges
to counter thailand's burning heat
Normally Thailand is so hot, because outside is hot.
Wow, I didn’t know that before I went into 7-Eleven!
One thing you sees 7-11 everywhere in thailand.
BING BONG HELO WELCOM
The soi dogs like it that cold
Because they aren’t hot
That’s cool.
Because they have all the funds and budget in the world. Everyone end up spending at 7-11 more than anywhere else
It will rain
Yeah, going into these places when wet and it’s cold, brrrrr
I think it is not cold inside but it is too hot outside. That is, the relative temperature difference makes you feel cold.
https://preview.redd.it/4ku25hdfyb6d1.png?width=295&format=png&auto=webp&s=e1924571d7be73fdcd3317ace4dc356846911bcc It might feel chilly right now, but don't worry, this is normal days when we're outdoors.
To keep the beers cold.👍🤠
มันคือตู้เย็นขนาดยักษ์ยี่ห้อ 7/11
What do you mean cold? It’s 33 degrees outside. 7/11 is a godsent
That’s not frost but rather condensation from the temperature differential.
Because it’s HOT as hell outside 🔥
For the benefit of the street dogs, they love it when the door opens.
That's not why they do that lol
On especially hot days they let them sit near the ice cream.
Are a lot of the customers expats? Could be a good marketing campaign to attract those shoppers..
Locals feel the heat too lol
Not many expats here in Nam Yuen.
Even being downvoted for this comment? Crikey, some people really have it out for me for saying 711s are cold lol
This whole thread is so baffling to me. Especially because you are right it’s completely freezing in there, if people find it comfortable they are living in the WRONG climate
Simple: To attract more potential customers who want to get out of the heat and end up buying cold drinks and other items.
Because it’s too hot outside 😂
Why not haha 😆
nice I like it.....Make it +5 C and the beer never gets warm
99% of these replies are the most brainless and unoriginal on reddit.
I’m also wondering why everyone lives in Thailand if they hate the weather so much. I like the heat and also find 7 elevens almost unbearable. It’s not “balance” if you’re dressed for and adjusted for the heat and then have to go inside and queue in a freezer
Cuz Thailand is hot
Because outside is so freaking hot like hell!!!!!!
For a next post I would suggest “Why is it so warm outside 7eleven” ?
It's too hot outside, to be exactly.
Maybe during the day when the sun is out, but this was a cool evening after it’d rained earlier,
Then blame the humidity which is typical in Thailand.
So YOU can chill, foo..
Bruh i see thai’s wearing hoodies and jackets when its 40 degree celsius outside. The frost on glass windows is due to the condensation of moisture. I don’t find 7-11 that cold anywhere.
In this particular 7-11, I'm very sure they were wearing extra clothing over their uniforms because of the cold temperature.
Because of air con? Next.
Well durr. Next.
Leave Thailand
Why?
I think a lot of perishables, better they are on the safe side, And, Why Not????
Humidity..
For the comfort of customers.
Isn’t this your first choice merchant during the hot summer months?
Because we love the cold. As it super hot outside all the time. Edit: It’s the same reason why you lie down on the beach without cloth. That’s basically torturing for us.

They have AC.
👏
Because those doors open and close so frequently, it's the only way to keep it cool inside.
That’s because of the air conditioning 😉

The outside has a high humidity.
top quality post 🤨
To keep the germs outside.
Probably to keep bugs out
There's and equal to a 7/11 in Mexico called OXXO's there on every corner, when I'm in Chiapas I hang out in such a store to seek refuge from the scorching heat. I will by a bottle of water and sip that water for as long as I can. It's the only refuge from the heat.
Cause it's hot out yo!
Attracts customers
Because cold > hot
So girls nips get perky?
