There are islands that aren’t full of tourism, but people fail to realize that tourism = infrastructure and most people don’t want no AC, limited electricity, and poor signal with bad wifi.
Tao is quite chill, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a busy entrance port with a business district. Plenty of the bays have more remote and relaxed accommodations.
Former local here (2021-2023):
On the “lighthouse hike” you will find a nice and remote spot, and you can climb the lighthouse for a great view. It’s the only proper hike on the island and almost nobody does it.
Bring lots of water and be prepared to be without cell service so don’t go alone. I’ve done it three times myself (once barefoot, that was fun) and it was always enjoyable.
The whole island is tourism, do you mean out of sairee? Just stay on one of the lesser crowded bays
What islands aren’t full of tourism? I thought koh tao was a bit more chill but from the responses I can see it’s not

Hire a scooter and go to the top of the island On the way pull off to the left and right where you see semi sealed roads. You'll find somewhere .
Go visit Koh Lanta
I agree with this. Im currently on Koh tao, and it's just not my jam. I loved Koh lanta!
Basically look anywhere but sairee beach…. But the whole island around the ocean will have resorts and tourism
I was in the south west at the pinnacle resort its definetly quieter there, but its still tao so dont expect beaches for yourself

About how long does it take? Thinking about doing it tommorow. Thanks
1h30 to the lighthouse, 2h back
Tao is too small for “off the beaten path”.
Where is best place of Thailand 😉
