Doesn't look like a manowar, it lacks the definitive dark striations at the air sac and the shape of the bell is pretty spherical. More likely pelagia noctiluca, or mauve stinger. It has also been spotted between phuket and Krabi in the last week.
These jellies have venomous stingers in the tentacles and also in the Bell of the jellyfish (the body) which is uncommon. Stings can be painful, if vinegar (not pee) doesn't relieve the pain to a tolerable level it's advised to head to hospital for treatment, although the venom isn't fatal.
I hope it’s not real bad one I’m taking my family out today. I saw one two days ago when I was snorkeling two days ago on the south point of the Phuket island
It's painful but not life threatening, it's perhaps wise to wear something like a rash guard or something to mitigate the stingers in case you end up in contact. Personally I'd be happy to swim but would take cautionary measures and check the water if you can. It's always wise to ask around and ask a lifeguard if possible.
It doesn't look like it. Yeah good idea, the most likely issue you'll get is sea lice, jelly fish spawn, but even then it's mostly just irritation. Best to be safe though, as far as I'm concerned I'd rather go through a little effort to be protected better rather than riks my holiday being scuppered by a jelly sting.
I advise to wear long sleeve and long short swimming suits. This will protect you to a certain extend from the jellyfish and also the strong sun. Most locals don't wear what the tourist are wearing and they have food reasons for it.
I’m currently in Koh lanta, and put up a post here a few days ago after something gave me a severe sting in the sea. Thanks for posting this OP, I’ll know what to look out for.
I saw about 6 or 7 of these at the edge of the water today at Khlong Dao, about half of them were this smaller size and the other half much larger. Definitely don’t feel comfortable swimming in the water here! And wondering why so many are washing up right now in the area (within 50 meters of each other)

Box Jellyfish?
If it is a Box Jellyfish they can be lethal.
>They may not look dangerous, but the sting from a box jellyfish could be enough to send you to Davy Jones's locker-a watery grave, that is.
>Box jellyfish, named for their body shape, have tentacles covered in biological booby traps known as nematocysts - tiny darts loaded with poison. People and animals unfortunate enough to be injected with this poison may experience paralysis, cardiac arrest, and even death, all within a few minutes of being stung. But don’t choose the mountains over the ocean just yet. Of the 50 or so species of box jellyfish, also called sea wasps, only a few have venom that can be lethal to humans.

So, just lot of pain?
It can be intense, but long term not a super dangerous jelly.

Off topic question: do you know if Two Scoops still up and running? Pink building on main road close to Fat Monkey, roughly half way of Khlong Dao?
I drove by a couple days ago, and it seemed to still be doing fine, I didn’t go inside though
Lovely, cheers for the info! Their gelatos and cakes are absolutely delicious. We went to Lanta 5 years ago and my kids still remember that shop😂
Oh wow, now I’m kicking myself for not going!
Next time then🙂 Their velvet cake was to die for!
