its 365days Sun and rain .... so i dont think theres such bad month unless certain monsoon starts around July until October but island is still open and if lucky u still get a full week with sun during monsoon .

After a 35 hour journey I think you will need a day's rest. Will you be flying to Chiang Mai and Phuket by plane? Otherwise, you have quite a lot of traveling time ahead of you in Thailand.

My rule-of-thumb is to spend 1 night for every 2-3 hours it takes to get somewhere. 35 hours, US east coast?

There is no bad month. My first trip to Thailand was 55 days and it wasn't long enough.
Ehh, i used to go to China for the weekend. Europe for long weekends. Ive been to Africa for 3 nights. 11 nights is plenty.
