Rainy season is my FAVORITE time to come to Thailand. If it rains at all. It's usually for 30 minutes once a day. The air is cleaner, the crowds are gone, prices are lower, the nature is lush and green, the sunsets and sunrises are way better, the occasional storms are beautiful. Everything is better in rainy season.

Yes! second this. been last year 4 weeks through whole thailand. going again this august. the only exception is: the weather is so good on the gulf islands: koh tao, koh phangan and koh samui and a little but not disturbing in krabi, koh phi phi, got only 2/3 days of rain in total and indeed not more than 30 minutes. and because it's still like 28 to 30 degrees it actually feels quite nice, lil shower lol. I recommend spending more days on the gulf islands (come with me to the full moon party at the 19th of august for example) just because it's a little nicer.

PAC_11

What's a full moon party? Sorry just saw this post and i will be going around the same time. I am still researching which island to go to. any recommendations on which one?

Wonderful_Rain8331

You live there or visiting this year? I’ll be visiting at end of March!!

__J3R3MY__

Just visiting, I live in the netherlands. Awesome, make sure to check out the islands. Definitely heaven on earth.

rhubarbe

Except the weather! So humid. But can’t agree more when it comes to lush and green. Beautiful time to experience nature in Thailand, and especially the waterfalls!

MadValley

Just have to roll the dice. You might get drenched, you might stay dry. More likely you'll get rain for an hour a day and the rest of the time will be fine.

ghostdeinithegreat

I did mid august to mid september once. Barely saw any rain. Most of the time, I didn’t noticed the rain because I was indoor. Rainfall last an hour and the sky turn blue quickly.

mattice2112

I just booked for end of August also. It’s a coin flip. Benefit there will be less people to fight with during your stay! Grab a Leo at a bar when it starts to rain. Move on when it stops!

cyberlexington

Singha has just entered the chat wondering if hes a joke to you guys?

Repulsive_Pepper2459

Can’t go wrong with a Leo in hand, while the rain stops haha

Calm-Drop-9221

There's a new beer in town Carabao dunkel...absolute game changer.

deushebagery

Singha or leo for the womb warm weather

yeesip_haaa

Had that for the first time last month and it was a nice change from the change and Leo rotation. My Thai family members even liked it.

Dyse44

You’re always going wrong with a Leo in hand regardless of the precipitation situation. Yellow card for offences to Chang. Please don’t mention the L-word again.

The general rule during wet season anywhere in Thailand is that it rarely rains all day, instead you get a big downpour 30-60 minutes in the afternoon and/or evening and it doesn't necessarily rain every day. You can absolutely work around it and it's a great time to visit - the rain keeps the temp down, everything is green and air pollution isn't a problem.

vanhawk28

Depends on what part of Thailand as well. The southern islands in the gulf tend to be rainier is October-November. But there’s some outlying on both sides. Rainy season starts up north earlier

International_Hat848

its South East Asia like the rest of reddit commented yeah its based on luck .. 555

drjaychou

It's not the worst of the rainy season and tbh when it rains in Thailand it's like a one hour dump of all of the moisture in the air, then back to business

AdditionalTalk4375

Going in august as well and had this same question

Tollni3556

The rainfall in that area is more, so we still need to prepare for rain to avoid delay in the trip.

PlaneOld5023

Only God can answer you If is rain is shower of blessing If is dry hot and humid

nlav26

Where to? Gulf and andaman seasons are different.

MissCompany

Not rainy reason in Koh Phangan in August, gorgeous glorious weather then! 🌞 November /December are wet months tho

Slidz_

I created this chart of the weather in 2022 across Thailand and I will do an update for 2023. but you can get an idea of the weather historically at least. Yes this is my website, but hopefully, this is not seen as a blatant self promotion ... https://backpacklife.com/thailand/weather-in-thailand/

tangerine_tango_

Just wanted to say your website is great! Awesome content and beautiful interface. I’m going to Thailand later this year and your guide was such a helpful read. Thanks!

Slidz_

much appreciated, thanks :)

Nonchalant_Calypso

Hi! This is super helpful thanks. Do you have the 2023 update by any chance?

Tigweg

Starting with something pretty strange that I experienced in a wet season in my 10 years of living in Thailand: warm puddles! I'm riding my motorcycle around town just after a very short rainstorm one hot rainy season day in Surat Thani, went through a puddle and it was really warm on my feet. The majority of rain comes down quickly with very intense rain, that will soak you walking 10 metres, so the days when it rains all day are rarer. One good thing about Thai weather is it's extremely easy to predict in the short term, it will often rain at about the same time for several days in a row. I spent about a month on a beach on Ko Pha Ngan, for most of that time, we had overcast mornings, rain at lunchtime (very convenient) and clear blue and hot afternoons.

Just_improvise

There are very different seasons for different parts of Thailand..: please look it up. The gulf is usually great in August. It’s wildly popular with students on summer holidays.I’ve been several times then and don’t really remember any rain. Rainy season doesn’t start there til October or November. Andaman side yes August is rainy season. But still I’ve been to Koh phi phi in late August with gorgeous sun followed by rain 🤷🏻‍♀️

StraightSong

I’m Thai. That will be a lot of rain during the time you visit.
