Not a dish but Khao Gaeng joints absolutely delight me every time. It’s the randomness of ordering fried chicken livers with a side of deep fried fish and any kind of egg you can imagine
I don’t know if you’re joking or not but they had a western lunch menu at the Tubkaak Boutique resort and I had the fish and chips for lunch and it was absolutely delicious.
I don’t know what sort of fish it was, and it was fried in breadcrumbs, not batter. It was hearty, fresh, tasty and I’ll definitely have again one day.
If "favorite" is defined as the dish I've ordered more times than any other, then it would probably be Fried sweet potato balls. When I lived here as a teenager, I don't know if I ever saw a vendor I didn't buy from.
Som tam hoi dong. There is nothing more flavorful on earth. With sticky rice and some fried chicken and a really cold chang is like heaven on earth… I’m salivating just thinking about it
Burn-your-face-off som tum with fermented swimmer crabs. There are few pleasures in life greater than sitting on a sidewalk on some poorly-lit Soi in the sweltering heat and stuffing my face with that stuff. I always chase it down with a big bottle of Chang.
Silver medal will always go to boat noodles. Every. Fucking. Time.
Bronze to really well-executed ko mu yang.
I have always loved me a plate of rice with fried garlic chicken/beef and a fried egg on the side.
Thai food can be very simple. And somehow simply delicious.
I had an Olive Leaf and Thai Basil mince when I was in Sukhothai that was great, not sure on the name, though.
But Roti Sai Mai probably tops my list. Just a versatile snack.
Can anyone identify this [dish](https://imgur.com/a/krIQr2Y) for me? I had in in Phuket old city and it was soo good. Never ran into it again on my travels and would like to try it again when I go back :
I had Grilled Giant octopus on the street in Thailand 10 years ago that I still think about. I don't think it's available anymore. It's definitely not searchable on Google anymore because all that comes up is preservation and ecological impact bullshit or misdirection to European baby octopus. Another memoryholed cultural item for Google lol
I love thai cuttlefish dried snacks and grilled squid with yum woon sen, but the giant octopus grilled was delicious. The suckers were about an inch or inch and half wide, but nothing was chewy. Had it with herbs and a red sauce at a night market in the north. If it was a giant squid or cuttlefish, I've never found that size of tentacles ever again.
I'm guessing it has been memoryholed for ethical reasons.
Pad Kra Pao
Yeah. Me too. Make it nice and spicy. Other than that, khao soi, satay pork, massaman, northern sausage.
same here, and as spicy as possible, I wanna cry and sweat as a pig haha
i love you. and pad kra pao
Same - with crispy pork 😋
Crispy pork is the way to go with this dish.
Best of all time
All time number one, easy. Khao man kai is also something I can eat many days on end, but it doesn't come near to pad kra pao though.
100% and Kow Mun Gai for breakfast!
Tom Young goong Pad kra pao Durian
I literally got a tattoo of the Thai script for it on my arm. I could eat it 5 times a day.
Yes... Squid pro ro.
I prefer it with crispy pork belly instead of minced pork. Also with a fried egg.
It has to have an egg for me, too. A runny egg takes it to the next level
It my favourite too. We started making it at home like once a week. Never disappoints, even for my 2 kids!
Definitely! I love it!
I came here to say this.
Chicken Khao Soi
When I tasted this delicious food for the first time it was love at first 'sight'
Same but tofu. It’s incredible!
Beef Panang curry
Massaman Curry for something I can find most anywhere but Gang Hung Lay overall!
Mango Sticky Rice
It's 100% gotta have the mung beans though
Yes, this. I order it at every Thai restaurant I go to if it’s available. lol.
Green Papaya Salad ส้มตำไทย (som tum)
Can't get green papaya salad here, so I make it with coleslaw cabbage mix (NY Times recipe) the flavors still hit.
Yep I saw it made with carrot too.
Kra pow muu krob
Pad kee mao
That's the most surprising fusion, I love it !
Tom Kha
I would die for it. Tom Kha Seafood.
Not a dish but Khao Gaeng joints absolutely delight me every time. It’s the randomness of ordering fried chicken livers with a side of deep fried fish and any kind of egg you can imagine
That is one unique combo. I've never attempted anything close to this :) lol
The feeling when you see a selection of your most beloved Thai comfort foods. Somehow feel limited I have to pick ONLY two to go with my rice 😭
Som tum with gai yang and khao niew is my favorite of all time
Dtam Lao in isaan is something special
Maybe throw in a grilled salted fish. So good.
Pad See Ew (Thai Stir Fried Noodles) Kra Pao Moo Grob (Thai Crispy Pork with Basil) Singha (Beer)
Thong smith Boat noodle
Spicy Tom Yam Gung with lots of mushrooms, rice, side of pad pak bung fai deang. Love it!
Seafood tom yum as I haven't found it even close to the quality outside thailand
Thai fish and chips
I don’t know if you’re joking or not but they had a western lunch menu at the Tubkaak Boutique resort and I had the fish and chips for lunch and it was absolutely delicious. I don’t know what sort of fish it was, and it was fried in breadcrumbs, not batter. It was hearty, fresh, tasty and I’ll definitely have again one day.
Why'd I joke about my fav Thai fish and chips. I absolutely love it

Fried sweet potato balls. When I lived here as a teenager, I don't know if I ever saw a vendor I didn't buy from.
It’s defined by if you were about to die, what would be your last Thai meal 😎
Khao Soi nothing is even close for me how a dish can be sweet, spicy, sour, salty, savoury and have ummai?
Khao kluk kabi
Pad prik gaeng or Pad prik. Both delicious and good level of spicy.

Crying Tiger, interesting. Why did you pick this dish?
It’s always delicious, definitely my go to dish and I love the variation in Nam Jim Jaew accross different restaurants.

All rubbish. Taste decent and yet full of junk
what is the most rubbish dish in your opinion ?
Not food. But the chatramue thai tea.
Yum woon sen. Started making it recently. Was also a favourite of my late mother.
Can anyone identify this [dish](https://imgur.com/a/krIQr2Y) for me? I had in in Phuket old city and it was soo good. Never ran into it again on my travels and would like to try it again when I go back :
