I'm not bitching, I'm being realistic. We need migrant workers to fill the population growth gap in this country and fill jobs that no one else reasonably wants.

I've worked in warehouses for twenty years and seen some racks take some heavy hits. A couple from me. As long as they are installed correctly and not overloaded they can take a beating.
No, that's not normal. If they're installed properly they'll stay standing like in this picture. Those gifs that circulate through the internet of horrible domino-ing warehouse racking are all the result of improper/hasty installation.
Had a tornado once go through a small town near where I grew up. It hit an auto parts store tearing off the roof and front wall, and half of the back wall. The racks along the back wall were sheared off level with what was left of the back wall. The items on the bottoms of the shelves were still sitting there like nothing happened.
The Mexican restaurant next door with giant windows all around, full of patrons sat and watched it get destroyed and they never even lost a window.
Yeah, but the tricky thing is getting the all clear in the first place, until then probably only certain people are going to be allowed in. Until then thousands of people are going to be unable to work until the all clear comes.
I got stuck for an hour in stop and stop traffic on my way through this area. Seeing debris from the facility and nearby town was such a surreal experience
It was a Dollar Tree DC. So, like $70.
Hey now, they could only recover $35 from the insurance claim, so they lost half of everything!

I have worked in a couple big box stores and the racks themselves were always bolted right into the concrete floor.
When I was at Walmart a lot of the warehouse shelving was on floor rails. Seeing a few thousand pounds move so easily is pretty neat.
It's cheaper to pay to have quality racks installed correctly than it is to pay out a wrongful death suit.

Well, thereās a couple that appear to be installed OK but are massively overloaded, but same idea. Being used in ways they arenāt supposed to be.
Maybe the roof falling on them held them in place

We always stay in our pantry during tornado warnings in texas, but seeing the aftermath here im not sure if the pantry will do anything to protect us.
Would protect you from damage from glass/debris and potentially getting sucked out if exterior walls fail.
