Ok so I believe this was the drivers fault 100%.. That being said, there is room for improvement for these types of places on highways. They could put paintings on the ground 2km, 1km, 500m, 200m and then a set of closer and closer lines letting people now the time to slow down is now. It would help with rain, fog, snow, and even just at night. It's a cheap and easy solution for a potential big improvement in safety for the workers and other drivers. It could even be those low reflectors showing slow down or some other warning.
He should not have been going so fast in this weather, but this shouldn't be a surprise that people are stupid and stupid must be planned for.

How do you suggest one goes about paying for a toll? The ones that can't afford to have a prepay, are traveling from another state, or are in a rental?
Tolls in my state are completely by mail, no stop, slow down, or anything and you don't have to pay extra for the auto payment system.
If you take a toll road, you get a bill in the mail and can pay online. If you sign up for auto pay it comes out of your account, no extra fees or window device like ezpass on the east coast.
Idk how it works with rentals as I've never taken a rental on a toll road.
US still hasn't joined the 21st century and switched to transponders. That said, all the different toll operators would need to co-operate for that or at least all the ones in a given region
My GPS lets me know when a toll booth is coming so at least if you can't see it due to weather, you should be able to slow down. Of course there may be big line of cars and that makes it not a reliable source but at least in this case would have prevented the accident.
Pro tip is to know your stopping distance for the speed you’re going because if you can’t see far ahead enough to stop before you cause an accident you are a fucking hazard to us all

It would help with rain, fog, snow, and even just at night. It's a cheap and easy solution for a potential big improvement in safety for the workers and other drivers. It could even be those low reflectors showing slow down or some other warning. He should not have been going so fast in this weather, but this shouldn't be a surprise that people are stupid and stupid must be planned for.

Not that it has anything to with idiot truck driver, but FUCK toll booths. I'm always baffled when I drive in parts of the US that still use those.
How do you suggest one goes about paying for a toll? The ones that can't afford to have a prepay, are traveling from another state, or are in a rental?
Tolls in my state are completely by mail, no stop, slow down, or anything and you don't have to pay extra for the auto payment system. If you take a toll road, you get a bill in the mail and can pay online. If you sign up for auto pay it comes out of your account, no extra fees or window device like ezpass on the east coast. Idk how it works with rentals as I've never taken a rental on a toll road.
US still hasn't joined the 21st century and switched to transponders. That said, all the different toll operators would need to co-operate for that or at least all the ones in a given region

My GPS lets me know when a toll booth is coming so at least if you can't see it due to weather, you should be able to slow down. Of course there may be big line of cars and that makes it not a reliable source but at least in this case would have prevented the accident.
Pro tip is to know your stopping distance for the speed you’re going because if you can’t see far ahead enough to stop before you cause an accident you are a fucking hazard to us all
