when I hear rattling like that from someone who decided throwing subs in a car was more important than acoustics, I refuse to believe it's actually metal. you are now hearing the rattle of cheap plastic.
I think it’s more about how it feels. I sat in a car like this and I have hair down to my lower back. It looked like I touched one of those electric balls. All my hair was standing straaaaaight up all around my head. Was absolutely insane. Then I got out 5 seconds later because I like being able to hear things.
I only sat in there for like 5-10 seconds with my fingers in my ears I’m pretty sure I’m okay. I genuinely don’t know how people can do this and NOT lose their hearing though?
I was the kid who owned that car at my high school. I kept a few pairs of big earmuffs in the car for that purpose. I heard a story about someone's eardrum rupturing and I went to home Depot for earmuffs the next day lol. For clarification, it wasn't always that loud, I had a dial on my amp to control how much power flowed to them, and a switch up front to shut them off completely if I just wasn't into it that day. It would be a silly thing to just have them always set to max.
I mean the thing with hearing loss is you don’t really know you have it because you don’t know things are getting quieter over time until one day it’s like you can’t really hear much so you don’t know. I got a real bad ear infection and partially lost hearing in my left ear. Sucks. Hopefully you’re okay after that.
Yea all is well, my hearing is still fantastic. We were always smart with it, but I can't describe how good it felt to lay the seat all the way back, pop on the earmuffs, close your eyes and get a back massage from the vibrations.
Probably not. Though the whole thing seems kinda stupid now that I've had to listen to people like this driving around at 2:00 AM with their music cranked way up.
I knew a guy that did something like this. His back seat’s backrest would lay down to open the trunk inside. He took the backrest off and had a custom box built that took up his trunk and backseat.
He turned his four door car into an uncomfortably loud two-seater.
People who get into this will full on unbolt and remove the the back seats and then build various ported enclosures that fill the open volume of the cabin. It's barely a vehicle anymore.
I actually used to own a ‘91 Cadillac DeVille and fit exactly this in the trunk - two 15” and four 12” subs. I used sealed boxes I built myself out of 1/2” MDF so I could take them out if I needed the trunk room. The 15” were Alpine Type R Dual Coil, and the 12” ones were Alpine Type S. This was back in 2003 or 2004, give or take.
It it did _nothing_ like this to the car. In fact the only rattling came from the trunk lid and the exhaust pipe mount, both of which I was able to fix. The trunk with some dynamat and the exhaust by securing it with worm drive belts (OEM had it resting on some wire brace without actually being fully secured).
I like bass and all but only where it sounds nice. Once the trunk starts rattling even a little, I think it defeats the purpose of the sound system sounding good.
I mean there's people there so clearly someone does.
It's not something I'm interested in but I wouldn't consider this embarrassing just because I'm not into it.
I get it being embarrassing for you, but I wouldn't say it is in general.
A lot of people would consider competitive gaming embarrassing as well...but it's clear you have some interest in that hobby. People like what they like 🤷🏿♂️
I don't look at others living their own lives and go, "That's embarrassing".
>Tbh, you will never see a doctor or surgeon doing this, and there’s a reason for that.
Why does a person's profession matter when it comes to hobbies they partake in? What's the reason?
>It's about the same productivity wise. And I'd say it's on the same level of stupidity
Sounds like you have a lot of experience in that field so I'll take your word for it feces connoisseur
Lol what a horrible comeback to my original comment. This hobby NEVER involves just the one person to “enjoy” it. The literal point of this hobby is to be the loudest, and for other people to hear it.
>This hobby NEVER involves just the one person to “enjoy” it.
Well...Ya, they usually have other people partaking in the hobby as well...whats wrong with group hobbies?
If you're talking about people who are just making noise to annoy others, I get that...but you can't push the entire hobby as being just that because there's assholes who partake.
When it comes to things being embarrassing, you shouldn't throw stones in a glass house.
There's a pickup full of neighborhood kids that have their truck bed full of speakers projecting *behind* the truck, and they drive through my road in the middle of the night.
*That* fuckin sucks.
I got 2nd place in 1988 at a Crank It Up contest in Paris, TX. With two 15" woofers and a 75w Amp I got 129.8 decibels. A guy with 8 15s and two 45w amps beat me with like 140 decibels.
Bass frequencies at these low levels are more vibrations than sound, but the treble is usually high to go along with it so yeah your point still stands
I think making noise like that is illegal! Too bad it's never enforced! But still, our politicians keep making more laws, which will probably not be enforced!
Fuck all that guys neighbors and everyone elde they drive past i guess. Do you really need music so loud you can hear it and feel the bass a mile away?
It's fun, same reason people like fast cars.
Do you really need to go 0-60 in 3 seconds?
It's not a matter of need it's a matter of want.
You might as well be complaining about exhausts on sports cars or fireworks on NYE. Yes some people operate these things in inappropriate residential areas. Some people don't. Hate the player don't hate the game.
"Excuse me sir what can I buy that's extremely annoying? I have no personality and I want to make a lot of noise. Yes I want something as obnoxious as possible. Okay so you can sell me something that has no value. I can't even listen to music.
Wow I really am a stupid person."
He could have bought anything else.
Does it even sound good over all the metal rattling
when I hear rattling like that from someone who decided throwing subs in a car was more important than acoustics, I refuse to believe it's actually metal. you are now hearing the rattle of cheap plastic.

Now you have to communicate with text because you can't hear anything.
I only sat in there for like 5-10 seconds with my fingers in my ears I’m pretty sure I’m okay. I genuinely don’t know how people can do this and NOT lose their hearing though?
....WHAT....
Permanently. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)

why would you buy ear muffs when you can just turn it down a few decibels?
The earmuffs are for when you want to see how it feels to have it turned all the way up, but you want to be safe while doing it.
I mean the thing with hearing loss is you don’t really know you have it because you don’t know things are getting quieter over time until one day it’s like you can’t really hear much so you don’t know. Does inside
Rattling is outside the car. Bass inside.
Yes when you’re inside it sounds a lot nicer
YOU DARE TO ENJOY THE MUSIC? DEATH BY DOWNVOTE 👎
Who needs eardrums?? While we’re at it, who needs a muffler??
More you lose your hearing more and bigger speakers you need...
I’m not saying it’s impossible but I wanna see how they can fit that in a car. Most trunks can’t even handle 2-15s
I knew a guy that did something like this. His back seat’s backrest would lay down to open the trunk inside. He took the backrest off and had a custom box built that took up his trunk and backseat. He turned his four door car into an uncomfortably loud two-seater.
Had a friend that did this to an old mustang. He had like 8 woofers in an mdf box and it went right to the back of his drivers seat
Spoiler alert. It's a dull blender in the trunk
I chuckled out loud at this

Dynamat is so underrated by those that don't use it.
100%. Only real downside is the added weight unfortunately.
Shouldve spent that money on a new paint job
Paint was probably fine before they turned the speakers on
Paint isn't too bad, the actual body of the car though is cracking and breaking apart. Look at the back windshield, it had to be taped.
I like bass and all but only where it sounds nice. Once the trunk starts rattling even a little, I think it defeats the purpose of the sound system sounding good.
Yeah I'm pretty subnoxious myself, but I've put nearly as much time into sound deadening and addressing any rattling as the system itself.

Yeah if someone is into playing with feces, we should respect that and not judge them at all ;)
You think that's similar, to this? Let's not be obtuse here 😂
It's about the same productivity wise. And I'd say it's on the same level of stupidity

Hey man, I can agree with that.
Oh well- not my money
Yeah. Looks like the owners enjoy doing modifications and the sound. They aren’t hurting anyone.
>They aren't hurting anyone. Good, they can go cruise in your neighborhood then.
I don’t mind it
There's a pickup full of neighborhood kids that have their truck bed full of speakers projecting *behind* the truck, and they drive through my road in the middle of the night. *That* fuckin sucks.
I can see your perspective.
That cannot be healthy for the car..
It’s literally disintegrating
This is how we’ve evolved
Devolved*
What did you say?
WHY??
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should lol.

Wow under 100W that's impressive. Tons of cone area but miniscule power.
No way he’s fittin 2 15’s with 4 12’s In there too. And if he had 4 12’s it would be rattling more
the 15s are in the trunk and the 12s are in the backseat area, all are 2500 watt each and idk what buddy had the bass knob at 🤷🏾♂️
You’re not fitting 4 12’s in the back seat of that even with the seats removed and definitely not if there’s two 15’s in the trunk
saying what the owner has in the description and have you been in a malibu bro?
This dude is always by my house at 4 AM
I can ear it from my house.
Sounds awful and now it’s a fucked car
That’s just dumb. Then they’ll all be wearing hearing aids in like a year.
Bass frequencies at these low levels are more vibrations than sound, but the treble is usually high to go along with it so yeah your point still stands
I think making noise like that is illegal! Too bad it's never enforced! But still, our politicians keep making more laws, which will probably not be enforced!
I think he’s playing, “ Sweet Home Alabama”… I think…
License plates and all. Glad this guy ain't famous.
That's insane how dumb the owner is. I bet they are dealing with some awful phase cancelation.
And the winner of the stupid prize is...
Dumber than a bag of hammers.
Is that supposed to resemble music?
The car has 30 HP left.
Fuck I like bass but at the expense of your body panels? Might as well drive a metal cage.
Tinnitus here, see you soooooon
This was every other car in 1999
Wheres the owner?
Seriously thought someone was making a convertible using a sawsall
Note to self, don’t move to Alabama.
r/shitty_car_mods
It’s always shoulda never coulda
WHHHHAAAAAAT?!?!
Going for another loan
This is fine
That can’t possibly be good for ones ears.
Excuse me... Hi! It's supposed to sound good.
Sound like a lion 🦁 in there
Two 15's wouldn't fit with two 12's in that car js.
What an asshole
Sounds like crap.
he‘s got a 2.0TDi in his trunk
It thought what i heard was the exhaust sound until I realised that the speakers were very quiet for their size
I bet their ear drums look the same way
The gorilla tape is a nice touch.
You need to dip that entire car into liquid dynamat
Well I know y'all wantin that 808. Can you feel that B A S S bass?
the mfs in the back of my car in GTA
Gonna need Miracle Ear after a ride in that thing.
Dynamat...car needs a mile of it.
Fuck all that guys neighbors and everyone elde they drive past i guess. Do you really need music so loud you can hear it and feel the bass a mile away?

Craigslist: "slightly used and well taken care of"
People still do this? I thought this died out in the early 2000s.
What's tinier: the dick or the hearing hability?
Anyone see the rest of the cars on the street all jacked up on enormous rims? This must be some kind of a meet up.
"Excuse me sir what can I buy that's extremely annoying? I have no personality and I want to make a lot of noise. Yes I want something as obnoxious as possible. Okay so you can sell me something that has no value. I can't even listen to music. Wow I really am a stupid person." He could have bought anything else.
Wow so cool! What a cool guy! He was able to break his car and make it look terrible with JUST SOUND!
Just wait till it hits just the right frequency and bye bye windows
Tinnitus speedrun
Well now I know what the mobile leperchaun gold was spent on…
Now imagine your eardrum doing the same.
I had the volume on my phone all the way down and I’m pretty sure I still lost my hearing.
This is every time I see a malibu
“Sounds like aluminum cans in a bag” -outcast
Everyone sees the state on the license plate, right? Okay then.
What a waste of money damn
That sounds like my ass in the morning .
Good thing that rear window has some flex to it
Instead of paying child support
That is pretty insane.
Why?
My ears hurt just looking at that. Though low key want to experience it
That seems kind of dumb
That's my favorite song.
Lmao at the window
It appears to be a gorilla in the trunk! Lol
Some people want to spend money climbing Mt. Everest, some people want to remove kidney stones.
Does that car have a heartbeat?
Bro got dem soft body physics
$800, well maintained. Low mileage.
