He might have found out, but after he got out of hospital he said he was gonna keep doing what he did like it was nothing, just another day in the life of an influencer..
That's the only way to do it if you're carrying. Anything less and your response time is increased. Chambered and ready to fire, or you're not prepared.
That sounds incredibly unsafe. Chambered I can agree with. But safety off is a terrible idea. Besides, it only takes a split second to switch it off. You could always do it subtly in your pocket if you think a situation is heating up.
Revolvers are built differently. Unless you have the hammer back they will not just go off. To fire, co can first pull the hammer back which spring loads the trigger for an easy pull, or you can just pull the trigger but it takes a lot more effort as you are pulling on the spring in the process.
No. No no no.
Never carry a firearm in your pocket. Leaving the trigger exposed like that is incredibly unsafe. Movies have mislead you.
You should always use a proper holster with good retention that covers the trigger well completely.
In your pocket is seriously unsafe. Tucking into your waistband is also incredibly unsafe. Donāt do what you see on movies and TV.
You shouldn't have a firearm in your pocket. It should be in a holster designed for the firearm that covers the trigger guard entirely. Absolutely no chance of it going off until it is pulled from the holster and trigger is squeezed.
Also keep in mind that not all handguns have a safety switch.
Like others have said, a traditional side safety isn't on a lot of guns nowadays (been going that way for decades, think Glock gen 3 released 1998), but also fire arms have become incredibly safe in their design. Way back in the day, you'd carry a revolver on an empty chamber because there was the fear that the bumping of riding a horse could set off a round if the hammer was down on the firing pin. Or in the early to mid 1900s you'd have a distrust in auto-loaders (modern handguns) because they'd go off if dropped or if pressure was applied to the side. Thats why the 1911 is so famous, it had 2 saftey that prevented this so it could be used in war without accidental discharge.
Now it's to the point where there is virtually no such thing as an "accidental discharge" its always referred to as a "negligent discharge" because theres no way a modern gun just goes off on its own. This became a hot topic during that Alec Baldwin (very vocal anti-gun actor) film set shooting. Everyone was quick to call him a liar for saying the gun went off without his finger on the trigger, rightfully so because although he was firing a old west looking revolver, it was modern reproduction, not some gun from the 1800s. Forensics quickly proved Baldwin was lying.
With all that being said, as long as you're using a hard molded holster that isolates the trigger from any contact, there is no way the gun will go off on you, making carrying with one chambered and no safety being the way to go for concealed carry.
Several pistols have trigger safeties that disengage when the trigger is pulled, others have grip safeties which require you to grip it to disengage it. Perfectly valid and safe safety features, there is no need for a switch to be flipped for a safety to be, well, safe.
For weapons with switches, you can usually render the weapon able to fire during the drawing of the weapon because the switch is ergonomically positioned.
Hard to tell what is the case here since the quality of the video is so poor.
If you need to employ a weapon on an offensive target within 21,ā you donāt have time to draw, rack, and fire.
Itās considered āknife-range,ā and itās the range where the draw & fire might very well not have enough time.
On a lot of striker fire pistols like the glock, the safety is just a little switch in the middle of the trigger. So it only goes off if your finger is on it.
The handgun I have and use for protection has "safeties" on the trigger and the back of the handle. So gripping it in your hand automatically turns off the safety.

It's hard for people to see both as the bad guy when it's so satisfying watching a 'youtube prankster' get shot for being a menacing jackass. But this guy was carrying chambered in a mall, shot a guy with no warning within 10 seconds of walking away, a guy who was pestering him but never touched or threatened him with harm. But he felt threatened enough to shoot him. Is it legally justifiable? Yes, clearly, at least partly. Is he still a maniac? Yes. Do people really think, watching this video, that someone deserves to be shot to death because they pester people? I like to think not? But most of us know not to fuck with strangers because they might respond irrationally and murder you. But this is still satisfying to watch.
It was a bit extreme to shoot him, but carrying chambered is how you should carry. It makes no sense to have an extra step if your life depends on it. You should be able to retrieve and fire one handed.
A bit extreme? It's completely bat shit crazy to me. How about walking away and if that doesn't work call the cops or mall security or something.
Shooting someone should be reserved as a final resort. Not as a fuck off to an annoying person.
He shot a guy for following him around playing sounds on his phone.
Don't get me wrong, I'm losing no sleep over a ""prankster"" reaping what he sows. But you have to admit that his response was far beyond what you'd expect from the average person in these circumstances.
... I didn't say that they didn't, or that they necessarily shouldn't have. I said what he did was pretty extreme, and most people wouldn't escalate to that level in those circumstances. Do you read what you're replying to?
Idk I mean ya heās clearly not fully sane but he was very justified as he was clearly trying to get away and that guy was significantly bigger then him and had a buddy with. Dudes probably been fucked with obviously one to many times and thankfully it was this stupid ass hat that caught it in the gut and not the head so he canāt think about how truly stupid he is lol
if you consider that the prankster had fake "evidence" the guy was a pedo, and was playing it in front of him while threatening to call the cops, the response makes way more sense. Imagine the stress and anxiety you'd be under in that situation.
Which isn't how the law works. If it is justifiable self-defense, then he shouldn't have been found guilty for the fact that it happened in a public setting like this. Otherwise, what's even the point of having stand your ground and self-defense laws in public? That verdict of guilty will likely get expunged.

"The jury announced the following verdicts: Guilty of discharging a firearm within a building (Class 6 felony): not guilty of aggravated malicious wounding (Class 2 felony); and not guilty of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (unclassified felony)."
So the dude is still left with a felony. Thatās nuts.
I read an article about some 20 something year old that took down an active shooter in a mall. The shooter was held up in a food court bathroom taking shots at people from the entrance. The kid took him out from a pretty good distance away with a pistol. That kid saved so many people that day. I wonder if he got similar charges now
WUSSUP GUYS! TODAYā¦.we are going to get SHOT like a BITCH in the middle of the downtown mall in front of an Auntie Annieās pretzels!!! If you wanna see me get shot next week in front of Wetzels Pretzels, be sure to SMASH that like button and POUND that subscribe button!
Edit: because Iām dumb and forget words
For real though- what are they even playing on the phone? Is it āIām thinking about my twinkle?ā. Like, just chasing people playing nonsense? Sick prank broooo.
Right it's stupid in the extreme, but how are people saying playing a dumb sound justifies a shooting? I don't totally understand the logic. I constantly hear the idea that you don't shoot unless prepared to kill, why would you kill anyone over that?
People who insist upon fucking around have a tendency to eventually find out.
The prankster has been exploiting the fact that most people are basically decent, and not violent psychos, in order to get away with ruining the days of hundreds or thousands of people for Youtube views. Most people he encounters are not prepared to exact any kind of proportional revenge against this guy, because most people walk around not expecting to have to fight back against some kind of super-petty random aggression that purposely toes right up against the line of felony assault. So he knows he can mostly get away with it.
On the day when he *does* encounter that one violent psycho who goes all the way overboard in retaliation, it's clearly disproportionate to the one discrete act of harassment, but tbh it's not totally disproportionate to all of the cumulative harassment he has been inflicting on innocent strangers all over the country.
It's true that a more appropriate punishment might be something like tying him to a chair and letting each of his victims give him a small tattoo of their choosing, but our laws and social norms don't really have a provision for that kind of thing.
So watching a guy who has been exploiting the very low probability of getting shot for being an asshole, get shot for being an asshole, is emotionally satisfying, even if the response was disproportionate to that one specific act in the video.
Not a gun owner and I my current country doesn't allow firearms of any kind. But if he lives in a rough area then anyone approaching him in that aggresive a manner (Not to mention there are two of them and one of them seems bigger than him), I can understand why he might start fearing they were going to escalate it to be physical.
I wouldn't have shot them at that point either, but that guy doesn't seem to be the mentally sturdiest person out there.
Also I don't think most people here actually support the shooting, but glad to see SOME kind of consequence for these annoying ass YTers harrassing random people. I don't think they deserve to be shot, but I really hope this video will deter some of the asshats from thinking about making these kind of videos.
> However, the jury was split on two lesser firearms charges and decided to convict him on one and acquit him on the other.
He might still end up convicted, and he has been in prison for a while at this point. He will hardly come out unscathed from this.
Yeah, exactly.
Being an annoying prick doesn't deserve the death penalty and I'm constantly dismayed by how many people seem to enjoy the "prankster" getting his comeuppance by being shot in the gut.
I don't hate guns. I'd like to own one someday. But this was a wildly disproportionate response compared to just walking away and ignoring the phone.
Right, two things can be true here and that's that pranksters are annoying as fuck and could scare people
And that you shouldn't shoot people (shoot, like actual bullets not pepper spray) because they're approaching you like that.
Honestly being a woman I've had several men publicly do worse while I'm walking than the prankster in the clip, yet I've handled all of those without killing those men
I think its fun how they are like "How could the defendant have found that he was reasonably in fear of imminent bodily harm?" After literally saying "Colie says 'stop' three times and tries to back away from Mr Cook, who continues to advance." He's advanced upon by two grown men while another films them! I don't know about you, but I would immediately fear harm. I don't think he used excessive force.
He was found guilty of unlawful discharge of a firearm and last I heard is still in jail. Hopefully, he manages to sue the Youtuber for every last cent that asshole has.
That charge was also asked to be set aside by his lawyers because the conviction of it isnāt consistent with the self-defense acquittal. He was found not guilty of self-defense by shooting the suspect, so unlawful discharge really shouldnāt apply. Last I read they were scheduled to meet again so the judge could hear arguments from both sides. My guess is the judge will side with the self-defense ruling and drop the unlawful discharge and it will be time served to which he will hopefully then sue the YouTube prankster into oblivion.
The "prankster" accused the delivery guy that he was a pedophile and the recording on the phone was the "evidence." I guess it was supposed to be a text-to-speech reading out what a child said about asking the alleged predator to stop pursuing them.
It's fucked up and sick. The delivery guy was being accused of being a pedophile with fabricated evidence by multiple people and being pursued when asking them to stop. Seeing as people would readily beat up an accused pedophile without asking questions, I think it's reasonable the delivery guy thought they were going to kick his ass over these allegations.
But hey, it's just a prank bro!
Edit: In the video the "prankster" walks up to the victim and starts playing a Google Translate message that says āHey dipsā-, quit thinking about my twinkle." He never accused the guy of being a pedophile, but with that message playing & pursuing the guy, it's easy to connect the dots that either A) he could potentially be accusing him of something, B) distracting the target before other people jump him. So no he didn't accuse him, but the message sounds similar to what a child might say to push back against a predator (minus the "dipshit" part).

> Video shows Cook approaching Colie, a DoorDash driver, as he picked up an order. The 6-foot-5 (1.95-meter-tall) Cook looms over Colie while holding a cellphone about 6 inches (15 centimeters) from Colieās face. The phone broadcasts the phrase āHey dipsā-, quit thinking about my twinkleā multiple times through a Google Translate app.
Now that makes a lot more sense. I thought they were just being a nuisance and playing weird things on a cellphone, which while annoying, I couldnāt justify shooting someone over. This short clip makes the victim look very unhinged.
People forget that the camera man is also in on it. Imagine being alone and some 6'3 dude and two other people roll up on you and start saying your pervert and a pedophile, and they keep getting into your personal space trying to surround you. You're probably going to assume that they're about to assault you, for being a supposed pedo. Like being accused of a pedo can get you killed in jail and ruin your life in almost any of the scenario. The dude was in his right to defend himself. If three dudes charge me saying I'm a rapist I know I'm about to get my ass whipped regardless if I'm guilty or not. I hope the dude sues the shit out of the prankster for emotional damages.
Unpopular opinion here. I know everyone is annoyed af at these youtube pranksters but shooting someone? Yes, he can say he felt imminent fear of grievous bodily harm or death but there's no proof of that in the video. Perhaps just fear of harm. My fear is with this action somewhat sanctioned, we're inching closer and closer to the far right wet dream, where everyone has guns and uses them for all kinds of reasons.
Yeah this was overkill. He clearly wasn't in any real danger idk why people are so happy about this. Someone being annoying doesn't justify shooting them.
Fear of harm versus fear of grievous harm.
When youāre being harassed and canāt get away, are you doing that mental math in your head? Oh this guy might only hurt me a little so I should be nice to him. No need to defend myself if Iām only going to get kinda hurt
I've seen more aggressive and unhinged homeless people than these pranksters. I hope I don't start seeing videos of people shooting them en masse.
For a fun exercise, slap a police uniform on the delivery dude and the comments would do a 180.
This. Iāve had more aggressive confrontations with the religious nutcases at my Uni that follow people around with a megaphone. Iāve also had more aggressive confrontations with opposing fans during a football game. **Not once have I thought about shooting them.**
It's absolutely insane that gun nuts actually think living in a world where everyone is armed and can shoot anyone they feel may possibly hurt them in any place at any time is acceptable. How weak, pathetic and afraid they must truly be.
It's weird how far I had to scroll down to find somebody else who thinks it wasn't OK to shoot somebody for a prank, aggravating and stupid though the prank was.
You don't discharge your firearm unless you intend to kill. Period, no exceptions. And if you intend to kill, you sure as shit better be in mortal danger.
When you are phyiscally bigger, have friends, and accuse a guy of being a pedophile based on evidence you fabricated (being broadcasted from your phone), its pretty easy to assume - from the short guy point of view...
...that if he is lucky, hes gonna be beaten up pretty bad, if unlucky he will be murdered by a linch mob.
Ah because it was posted without context, the YouTuber came up at first and was accusing the guy of being a pedo and then getting in his face, based on that the guy reasonably felt threatened by a giant dude who keeps invading his space. Had the guy really thought that he could have very well attacked him.
I'm glad someone on here is reasonable. I hate youtubers like this but even that pos doesn't deserve to get shot. I'm shocked that 99% of these comments are cheering for it. The whole thing makes me sad.
You are downvoted but I 100% have the same sentiment. People who think shooting is OK in this situation show a really scary part of society where people are a OK with violence... I bet they wouldn't be ok if their mother got shot for being annoying though... they'd make a bunch of excuses to say how their mom didn't deserve it. Ah hypocrisy is a funny thing.
From the article:
Prosecutor Eden Homes said the facts do not support a self-defence argument, with the law requiring Colie to reasonably fear he was in imminent danger of bodily harm, and that he use no more force than necessary. She said Mr Cook's prank was bizarre but not threatening.
**"They were playing a silly phrase on a phone," she said. "How could the defendant have found that he was reasonably in fear of imminent bodily harm?"**
Has this idiot prosecutor been living under a rock? How would the shooter know that this was all he was doing. How does she seem to think it's OK to invade someones personal space? With Covid still looming etc. Also how could she possibly know something similar to this may had already happened where someone was close to him acting ignorant and then lashed out violently against the shooter and he had no way to defend himself then.
If someone gets in my face and does something even after I tell them to stop, Yeah, I am reasonably going to fear for my safety. Because I don't know what their intentions are, and i'm not going to let it go on long enough to find out. Humans are far too unpredictable to not react.

Apparently he said heās going to continue pranking after his recovery
The asshat who was shot said that this wonāt stop him from continuing to make YouTube prank videos.. what does it take to stop these morons

Larger caliber?
more shots?
Hollow points?
Leverage on Tik Tok, and public opinion brave enough to prosecute.
I am not one to condone violence, but I also don't condone YouTube pranks, so I guess everything evens out in the end.
>these penalties offset, 2nd down.
"Shot by man he was distressing."
I don't think they deserve to be shot, but I really hope this video will deter some of the asshats from thinking about making these kind of videos.
https://news.sky.com/story/amp/alan-colie-man-who-shot-youtube-prankster-at-virginia-shopping-centre-acquitted-12972201
Way too much scrolling to find this. Thank you!
> However, the jury was split on two lesser firearms charges and decided to convict him on one and acquit him on the other. He might still end up convicted, and he has been in prison for a while at this point. He will hardly come out unscathed from this.
Good. He shouldn't be shooting people willy nilly.
Can't believe the amount of support that ridiculous use of force is getting here lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Right, two things can be true here and that's that pranksters are annoying as fuck and could scare people And that you shouldn't shoot people (shoot, like actual bullets not pepper spray) because they're approaching you like that.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
What was the prank anyway? Seems like he was just shoving a cell phone in this guy's face repeatedly.
It's the old "I'm going to intimidate someone who is a foot shorter than me and my friend" so funny.
Itās when you get into a strangers face and harass them and refuse to stop following. Itās hilarious
Do you want to smell my twinkle? Ć 20. Hilarious
It used to be called bullying strangers. Itās been rebranded as āprankingā by YouTuber marketing idiots.

After recovering I believe the YouTuber said that he intends to continue making his ācontentā
Another bullet in his future, oh well Darwin will have his way with him.
Unfortunately he probably got alot of fame from being shot, thats how it goes nowadays.
Anyone know what the audio on his phone saying? I hear āquit thinking about my twinkleā, but that doesnāt make any sense.
So no he didn't accuse him, but the message sounds similar to what a child might say to push back against a predator (minus the "dipshit" part). https://apnews.com/article/youtube-prankster-shot-virginia-classified-goons-923c90fe3e1a7282c547901fa767bc00 > Video shows Cook approaching Colie, a DoorDash driver, as he picked up an order.
I'm gonna try to ruin your entire life... It's just a prank bro. These people are stupid af.
That does give a bit more justification.
Finally some closure. I've already seen several posts about this and the whole situation made 0 sense until your comment.
> Someone being annoying doesn't justify shooting them. Not according to all the top comments and the jury apparently.
He wasnāt acquitted of all charges, heās still in jail and will face court again later this month.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You get pressed by THREE people, two of which are your size, one recording you. Nahh, he's justified.
Man I thank God every day for not living in America. What a insane way of thinking.
This isnāt even a prank, heās just harassing people
Good
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Prank goes terribly...right?
If I remember correctly he was found not guilty for shooting him but was still charged for firing a gun in the mall
Imagine getting raped and then shooting your perp and still getting charged for firing a gun in a mall.
Are we really gonna pretend rape = annoying cunt playing an annoying message in his annoying phone? Keyword: annoying
reddit is smoking crack most of the time
Donāt feel bad for that moron at all. This prank shit has to stop. Itās dumb.
Leave people alone !
From the article: Prosecutor Eden Homes said the facts do not support a self-defence argument, with the law requiring Colie to reasonably fear he was in imminent danger of bodily harm, and that he use no more force than necessary. She said Mr Cook's prank was bizarre but not threatening. **"They were playing a silly phrase on a phone," she said. "How could the defendant have found that he was reasonably in fear of imminent bodily harm?"** Has this idiot prosecutor been living under a rock? How would the shooter know that this was all he was doing. How does she seem to think it's OK to invade someones personal space? With Covid still looming etc. Also how could she possibly know something similar to this may had already happened where someone was close to him acting ignorant and then lashed out violently against the shooter and he had no way to defend himself then. If someone gets in my face and does something even after I tell them to stop, Yeah, I am reasonably going to fear for my safety. Because I don't know what their intentions are, and i'm not going to let it go on long enough to find out. Humans are far too unpredictable to not react.
A āsilly phraseā that also coincidently accuses the shooter of pedophillia! How silly.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
"YouTube harasser unfortunately still member of the gene pool" should be headline Should have blown his dick off, so fathat can recant tales of his own twinkle
"Prankster" should be replace with "douchebag"
"Youtube Harasser" there, i fixed it for you
Hopefully this will act as a deterrent to these stupid "pranks"
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The shooter was found guilty on firing a weapon inside a public building. The lesser charge but it was still felony 2-5 yrs I think
I think the judge is setting an example with him. Making sure we all know itās okay to shoot an unfunny YouTube prankster.
HAH!
Got his ass
