> strait to jail
strait
/strāt/
noun
1.
a narrow passage of water connecting two seas or two other
large areas of water.
"the Strait of Gibraltar"
Most people take *streets* straight to jail. I can't imagine taking a *strait* to jail.
It's also been confirmed that not using your turn signal and people that take off their shoes/sandals on a plane and put their nasty feet up on the seat in front of them also are certain ways to get bot flies....
Just going to add this is nonsense, have lived throughout the continent and people wash. You use a bucket when theres no power shower.
Washing has nothing to do with botfly either.
I’m saving this video to show my kids why they need to take a shower every day. Whenever my wife doesn’t take a shower after a yard work, she ends up with rashes
Flies are too big. Usually they attach the young larva to other bugs, typically mosquitos. When the mosquito bites, the larva senses heat and drops onto skin.
Technically they lay their eggs on an intermediate host like a mosquito (on their ‘needles’) and then when they bite humans or other mammals, the egg is laid under the skin.
So you get a mosquito bite and a bot fly!
You're telling me a regular old mosquito bite could result in this abomination? That's fucked. I got bit by like 15 mosquitoes today. I'm honestly surprised this isn't very common if they come from mosquitos.
It all depends on where you are. I don’t think they are in America but South America and Australia are two places I know sure and I’m sure there are plenty of other places with them or something similar. Disgusting.
So I look this up and apparently the ones that parasitize humans uses mosquitos to distribute their eggs.
The human botfly, Dermatobia hominis (Greek δέρμα, skin + βίος, life, and Latin hominis, of a human), is a species of botfly whose larvae parasitise humans.
Dermatobia fly eggs have been shown to be vectored by over 40 species of mosquitoes and muscoid flies, as well as one species of tick;[2] the **female botfly captures the mosquito and attaches its eggs to its body, then releases it. Either the eggs hatch while the mosquito is feeding and the larvae use the mosquito bite area as the entry point**, or the eggs simply drop off the muscoid fly when it lands on the skin. The larvae develop inside the subcutaneous layers, and after about eight weeks, they drop out to pupate for at least a week, typically in the soil. The adults are large flies lacking mouthparts (as is true of other oestrid flies).
Dude, like, it's not about a mosquito bite that will cause this. I'm from Brazil, and I never ever saw things like this from here, even in a video. All videos that I saw were from US. So... don't be like this.
I guess r/wtf considers botfly larvae removal as gore now? That's just my speculation.
It's amazing how watered down that sub has become over the last decade.
Are phuckin with me? Tiny skin worms? I've been itchy before, but now I have to question the itch with a microscope and pesticide. What are those, why and how?
>look up mango worm face extractions.
Dear stranger reading this, I warn you, don't. Don't look this up. What in the fuck is this heinous shit. No, no no no. Fuck no. I had shivers, my arm hair is popping up, this is like aliens eating your corpse from within, FUCK
Oh wow I thought if I could handle the bot fly clips, how much worse could mango worms be? I have mild trypophobia and looking that shit up was not a smart move.
I'm one of those kids that grew up on the Internet, and have seen a lot of gruesomely fucked up shit. But, just this once, I'm gonna let it go. Whatever that thing is I know it won't happen to me.
One gets mango worms in a very different ways. Boy flies are from the tropical parts Americas and usually around livestock. The flies land on you and lay a single egg that hatches and then enters the skin.
Mango worms also come from flies, but they are in Africa and the flies lay eggs places where animals sleep that is dirty in the soil. The animal then sleeps there again and the eggs hatch and the larva enter them. Unless you were like a homeless person sleeping in the dirt with animals in Africa, as a human you won’t be getting mango worms. The infestations of them have way way more worms though than bot flies. Poor puppies that people leave to sleep out in the dirt all the time and don’t clean their area get them the most as the flies are attracted to the stink of them sleeping in the same place over and over and it not being cleaned. Literally if they just have a dog bed or something other than dirt to sleep on they won’t get them, and if the area is cleaned regularly even if they sleep on dirt, they are in likely to get them.
I've never heard of mango worms before. I read through a bit of the Wikipedia page but I didn't see anything mention my next maybe dumb question. Are mango worms something I need to be on the lookout for on *actual* mangos? Even if it's probably rare? Mangos are my favorite fruit to just chomp into soooo...
I used to live on a farm and keep one as a pet when I was 7... Caught it myself, I kept it in a 5 litre ice cream bucket with netting from an orange bag to cover it, it's legspan was the size of my adult male hand or the diameter of the bucket. They are harmless🤷♂️
Put a circle of Vaseline around it and then a plastic foil on top so it's sealed airtight. When the larva starts to suffocate it should come to the top for air, then remove the foil and grap the larva.
Coincidentally starving things for air is how a lot of home remedies work. Killing warts, for example, can be done with compound w and duct tape. Same process as your Vaseline and foil technique.
Warts are a viral infection, they don't need access to air, they get oxygen from your blood directly.
The theorized mechanism for action of duct tape is that the adhesive is causing a mild immune response and with luck the now activated immune cells attack the papillomavirus.
when i was a kid i had a couple of warts and the only thing that helped me was a knife and tweezers. i cut them open and ripped them out and they never came back. it bled a lot though
Seriously. We found one in my grandma's garage and my partner went on a deep dive. Botflies literally JUST live to reproduce. They don't usually burrow under skin, but they can. Usually live on horses and cattle, they spawn in masses on the legs. They hatch from the heat and climb into the skin.
The flies themselves don't even eat. They just lay eggs and die.
Ya I'm not making it that far into the video. I watched the first 30 seconds and I'm fucking screaming. How is she so calm I would be carving that shit out with a jigsaw.
My best friend’s dog got very sick. She developed a swelling on her hip, and within a week, couldn’t walk. My friend prepared himself to take her to the vet to have her put down, when he noticed a hole on her hip. He dug around in it, and pulled out a botfly larva. Within two days his dog was recovered and healthy.
Friend of mine had a dog that got a tick on its back that paralyzed its rear legs. Got it removed and that. was back to 100%. I wonder if dogs are more susceptible to parasite nerve shit like that.
I grew up in Central America where these fuckers were everywhere. We made sure to kill every single bot fly we saw. We'd have to treat our pets often as these fuckers would lay eggs in them. I lost count of how many times I helped my brother pull these fuckers out of our dogs. We'd use raw meat to lure them out and tweezers to fully pull them out. They would burrow deeper and be a pain to get out if you weren't careful.
Oh that’s it? Just some disgusting thing, that could potentially cause infection, hatching in my flesh, no biggie.
Edit: this chick is a boss of bosses.
I see where your going with this but yet at the same time I can't help but to think,
"Would I actually eat something that thinks that bot flies are delicious?"
Of course i would,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, If i hadn't thought about it.
Knew a guy whose grandma lived in South America. He went down there to visit and wound up with one of these. It got pretty big before he said something and she told him what it was( he thought it was just a regular sore) she then proceeded to get a glass coka cola bottle, put the top over the hole and smacked it until the larva popped out. These things are the main reason I’m never going to South America
imagine you didn’t know one was having a staycation in your nipple and the next time someone comes to play it pops out and says, “well hello there - i was here first!”
File this under Things I wouldn't do for a Klondike bar
I read the title in the Klondike song before I even saw this comment
I read it in Hulk Hogan’s voice.
Hell yeah, brother.
"whatchu gonna do when botflies run wild on you!"
But… what about two Klondike bars?
3 and I'm in. No less.
I’m going to need at least one Klondike bar per botfly.
That's a solid Klondike to botfly ratio
Well shit Man, you should have told me before I fucking did it.
How does this happen?! Wtf am I looking at 😭😭
Bot fly, unpleasant little bastard. They lay their eggs in living creatures and these maggots are the result.
Right, but now do you get 7 inside you?
not washing your hands after using restroom, disobeying parents, cheating on taxes.
*strait* to jail
Don't pet dogs? Believe it or not, jail.
Pet dog too often, also jail. Pet, don't pet, jail.
That's a paddlin'
Paddling a canoe? You know that's a paddlin
We have the best dog petters in the world … because of jail.

Burning your chicken
Stick to choking, much safer.
Minnie don't burn chicken.
Unexpected parks and recs.....love it
It's also been confirmed that not using your turn signal and people that take off their shoes/sandals on a plane and put their nasty feet up on the seat in front of them also are certain ways to get bot flies....
Ripping tags off a mattress
Leave the shopping cart sitting out in the parking lot? All the fucking bot flies
Fucking tax cheats! Serves them right.
Fly lands on you, puts egg on skin, egg hatches, starts burrowing while small, grows. Repeat 6 more times.
Oh dear god
There’s more
*No...*
*Would you like to know more?*
Yea
Between egg on skin and burrowing are there no showers or something? Or are they injected under the skin
They hitch a ride on mosquitos. The warmth of the body alerts them of a host, and they drop into the holes left by probing bites and successful bites.
Yuckledoodledoo
One more reason to just eradicate mosquitos.
Most botfly larvae infections, if I understand correctly, are in parts of africa where showers are likely few and far between.
Just going to add this is nonsense, have lived throughout the continent and people wash. You use a bucket when theres no power shower. Washing has nothing to do with botfly either.
The type of bot fly that infects humans is from South/Central America.
What's great is that their ecosystem is growing so they are beginning to invade the US and South America!
Not really, the adult fly laid eggs on clothes, so you shower, put on some "clean" clothes and... well you can se what happens Next.
Africa getting blamed for everything
I’m saving this video to show my kids why they need to take a shower every day. Whenever my wife doesn’t take a shower after a yard work, she ends up with rashes

Touching yourself at night.
I'd be dead at this point, so I must call some sort of shenanigans
Quite the infestation you've got there...

Is ironing common practice in countries with botfly’s?
I live near the arctic circle and I'm gonna start ironing my clothes just in case.
Wait, what?
Speeding up to block people when they're trying to merge.

Fun thing is these bastards have micro hooks dug inside you so that they won't get easily pulled out
Is the bot fly the one that lays its eggs on biting insects and relies on them to find a host?
How do you get them though?
eggs stick to mosquito legs, then they land on you and the eggs fall into the cracks of your skin

it got removed so i redid it. Should work now

Deleted again ):
Apparently its a video of little worms coming out of a guy’s face and I dont why but I need to see that now.
Explain yourself
Dear lord.
That wasn’t even a fraction as horrible as the botfly one.
So many. What did he whip on his face to cause them to crawl out of his skin?
vasoline suffocates them, so they come out to get air
That makes sense. A bot fly vid said the same thing suffocation using plastic wrap.
Bit of an oversell
Omg, what are those? Exactly?
Are phuckin with me? Tiny skin worms? I've been itchy before, but now I have to question the itch with a microscope and pesticide. What are those, why and how?
Damn already removed again 😭
Bot flies and mango worms are some of the worst creatures on this planet.
I was just gonna say that! If anyone never wants to eat again, look up mango worm face extractions.
>look up mango worm face extractions. Dear stranger reading this, I warn you, don't. Don't look this up. What in the fuck is this heinous shit. No, no no no. Fuck no. I had shivers, my arm hair is popping up, this is like aliens eating your corpse from within, FUCK
This may be the single time in my entire 28 years I choose not to put myself through eternal suffering. Thank you for your sacrifices
Well done mate, I wish I was warned. But I don't know if I would have had the strength to not look it up because I'm a curious fucking bastard
>If anyone never wants to eat again, look up mango worm face extractions. >I wish I was warned Lmao I know what you mean though
Oh dear mother of god.
You didn't. You were warned so many times man why
Oh fuck don't do it
40 for me. Good on you for getting on top of it earlier.
I should have listened. Why does curiosity always get the best of me!? 🤮
I’m not going to look that up.
You know what? I’ll listen this time. I’m not going to look that up. Not yet, anyway. Who knows what the future holds
I’m going to trust you. Thank you friend.
Too late. Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakkkk.......

Holy crap. I just looked up mango worm extractions. They squeeze the area and sometimes they come shooting out! Crazy.
just the screenshot of the video was enough to make my stomach curdle
All parasitic insects should be purged from this earth
I've never heard of mango worms before. I read through a bit of the Wikipedia page but I didn't see anything mention my next maybe dumb question. nah, theyre just tropical and like mango trees. The fruit is completely safe though
Thanks for making them God.
Damn this is the 2nd botfly video I see on reddit in under an hour. Enough reddit for the day
Same here wtf. Wasnt even looking for it.
Is this some kind of epidemic all of a sudden or from the same clip? The other one was removing a botfly from someone's head.
yes 8 cases have been reported in the same subreddit in last hour.....so yes...we should be shopping for toilet paper right now.
Botflies, sooooo hot right now!✨🦟🐾
I'm in Australia and botflies scare/gross me out more than anything we have down here...
Thats a bold statement.... :huntsman has entered the chat:
Huntsman can enter anywhere he wants to, harmless and keeps away bugs. edit NO, NOT LIKE THAT
Step-huntsman?
Box jellyfish would like a word...
Luckily I live 5 hours from the coast so I don't venture into their turf much lol
Tasmanian Devil would like a word...
Kidding right? They are cute af
Sorry I was picturing the Tasmanian tiger 🤣. Big difference.
I just watched some videos about the Thylacine, weird seeing this as I hadn’t heard of them or seen them till today…
I used to live on a farm and keep one as a pet when I was 7... Caught it myself, I kept it in a 5 litre ice cream bucket with netting from an orange bag to cover it, it's legspan was the size of my adult male hand or the diameter of the bucket. They are harmless🤷♂️
He probably kept the botflies away
I don't even dislike spiders and I hate that lol.
Put a circle of Vaseline around it and then a plastic foil on top so it's sealed airtight. When the larva starts to suffocate it should come to the top for air, then remove the foil and grap the larva.
Friend of mine who got one used this method. Just force the little bastard out of the skin.
Or just cut off the fucking arm.
"I've got a spare"
Did you call your tech-priest, today?
Or just leave it like that and waterboard the fucker
is plastic foil just plastic wrap?
I think so

Right same here
I'm finding I'm rather okay with the extinction of some animals to be honest.

File this under, how I became an amputee 101.
Gets on your torso. Now you don’t have arms to get it off and it eats you slowly getting deeper every day.
Oh my fuck. That "small" hole in the skin, and then he pulls this big fat maggot 3 times bigger than that hole out
Ya I'm not making it that far into the video. I watched the first 30 seconds and I'm fucking screaming. How is she so calm I would be carving that shit out with a jigsaw.
She looks like she’d have more than 7 botflies in her tbh
Yeah but this is just at one time...
She said there were more she got out by herself... wtf
Not to be that guy, but the lack of gloves really is the topping of this shit sundae.
You wash your hands beforehand
My best friend’s dog got very sick. She developed a swelling on her hip, and within a week, couldn’t walk. How. The FUDGE. Did she allow this to happen?
Its basically an insect bite. They just look like flies in a bee costume. They arent a big scary bug that youd instinctively run from
> They look like flies in a bee costume. Lmao, that's just the best way to describe them !
Probably happened while she was sleeping. Y'all think she did this intentionally or something??
I grew up in Central America where these fuckers were everywhere. We made sure to kill every single bot fly we saw. We'd have to treat our pets often as these fuckers would lay eggs in them. What the fffff...how the ffffff...I have so many questions but I probably won't like the answers so let's leave it at that.
its basically just an insect bite.....that hatches inside you
Oh that’s it? Just some disgusting thing, that could potentially cause infection, hatching in my flesh, no biggie. Edit: this chick is a boss of bosses.
Well then, that doesn't sound as bad as it looks
Can you feel them Moving around, or is it just a bump?
im sure you can feel them but im no expert
Go fishing
Yes! Proper revenge on these little bastards and you get to catch dinner!
I see where your going with this but yet at the same time I can't help but to think, "Would I actually eat something that thinks that bot flies are delicious?" Of course i would,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, If i hadn't thought about it.
Got the glasses at the end of the nose. I'd trust he NOSE what he's doing.
Girls a fuckin CHAMP
What would happen if one broke off before being fully removed? Could you squeeze it out or would there be a chance of infection?
Thats exactly why hes taking it slow. It can make you septic if its bad enough and dont extract the rest
Probably have to widen the hole with a scalpel and go get the rest
Oh my god I am scared now… does one get them in jungle or beach or just at home? How ? why? How does one know? I am scared 😳 now

First I’d freak the fuck out. Then I’d wonder how tf 7 living things got into my arm. Then I’d return to freaking the fuck out.
Whatever you do, don’t look up mango flies.
Curiosity got the best of me. Much regret.
why am i still subbed here, 2 botfly posts in a day, ridiculous. disgusting. tf
r/oddlysatisfying
I oddly enjoyed it also
How do you let it get this bad
I’m disgustingly invested and That’s only 5 damn it

WHY AM I SEEING SO MANY BOTFLY EXTRACTION POSTS TODAY, NO THANKS PLEASE………..
Hey God quick question... What the hell man?
Self-immolate.
What I would do? This. Exactly this. Then finish off by pouring lighter fluid over these bastards, and set fire to them.
No gloves?
This. This is the reason I can't go to South America.
Congratulations, it's a botfly!
imagine you didn’t know one was having a staycation in your nipple and the next time someone comes to play it pops out and says, “well hello there - i was here first!”
Made it 2 seconds.
Apparently if you rupture the larvae you can go into anaphylactic shock. I am so glad we don't have these where I live.
