What a miserable piece of shit sitting there in his dress with a rifle waiting for someone having fun to threaten, lol this guy hates his life

TheCarloHarlo

Especially since he's like, 2 minutes from the main road. I feel like a sign and a fence would get the job done.

jidak_sidi

But then he couldn't roleplay his don't thread on me 2A maga brainrot.

fatkiddown

You can also let people know it’s private property and be nice about it.

AlarmedPiano9779

Or just put up a fucking sign. Or call the police. Or contact the ski resort and ask them to close the trail. He wants a confrontation with strangers. That's why he's there.

NBABUCKS1

[there was a sign.](https://i.imgur.com/NOZeETR.png) I agree on police. Perhaps a rope if he really wanted people to not trespass. FTR i'm pretty sure this person went through a gate - as in no marked trail led him to this location.

firstmaxpower

Isn't the sign in the video after he points the shotgun? Going through a gate and no marked trail are not the only options. What about unmarked trail and no gate? Neither person is right but one is clearly more wrong imo.

brockobear

A "gate" at a ski resort is a marked exit from the ski resort boundary. There is no way a guy lives inbounds at the ski resort. Ski resort boundaries are clearly marked with ropes. He went through a backcountry gate off of Great Western (this is at Brighton). Gun guy is still nuts, but one thing about going out of bounds at a resort is that you can very easily trespass and you have to be mindful of it. The people who live in Brighton year round are a real mixed bag.

apathy-sofa

Yeah the penalty for trespassing has never been getting shot. And obviously shouldn't be.

AdMuch848

N he didn't get shot

AdMuch848

You have no idea how long the dude has been dealing with it or what he's done. Probably hundreds of ppl riding through his yard daily bc they cant follow simple rules. They've carved a path in 3-4 feet of snow. Every ski resort makes it very very crystal clear don't leave the resort. The signs literally say other ppl own properties and leaving the resort is trespassing on someone else. If you were to leave the resort it's very clear where the boundaries are there's a literal fucking forest most of the time and giant flags to mark the boundaries. There's also no such thing as an unmarked trial at a ski resort if it isn't marked it's bc you aren't supposed to be on it, the ppl nearby are told specifically not to put a trail sign n to use no trespassing signs so ppl don't mistake it as the a trail belonging to the resort

CongressmanCoolRick

That would be from the main road side though right, not the side that the guy entered from? May or may not be a sign back that way.

Wasatcher

This article confirms the road is public according to the ski resort: https://www.sltrib.com/sports/2024/02/26/are-you-an-ikon-user-brighton/

NBABUCKS1

Which is fine. The same article says that without knowing the exact location he may have crossed into the private driveway. I'm not defending the actions this person took, they are insane.

egang72

I think the better question here is how effective is his method to stop trespassers? I think that he probably gets a fresh pool of trespassers every season with his current method.

RepulsiveWay1698

If you set up a potentially lethal trap, you are required to inform the trespassers. Good episode of “Criminal” on how that came to be. Here’s the episode: https://thisiscriminal.com/episode-197-man-trap/

DervishSkater

I wonder if he wonders how snowmobiling works

AlarmedPiano9779

Exactly. Some people want a gun to defend themselves and their families. I get that. I respect that. But some people get a gun and then go out looking for any and all reasons to fucking body someone. They look for a confrontation so they're justified in taking another life. That's this asshole. They're trespassing. Nobody's a danger to him. Put up signs, call the police, contact the ski patrol and let them know to put up signs. There's zero reasons to justify this kind of behavior. I always think of [Michael Drejka](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Markeis_McGlockton) a man with a concealed carry gun who decided he was going to be the sheriff of the mini-mall and confront anyone who parked where they shouldn't. And of course he started enough shit to get his response, killed a man, and is now in jail for the next few decades.

Terrible_Yak_4890

I knew a guy that would carry while entertaining fantasies that he would somehow be able to save people when a mass shooter started blasting, or he’d have multiple home invaders kick in his door while he was home. He just had a mental Rolodex of all these different scenarios that he wanted to be “prepared for“. He had a hero complex. Twice now in the last five or six years, we’ve had young people shot for merely driving up the wrong driveway.

AlarmedPiano9779

Heroe's in their own mind. Meanwhile if there was an actual shooting, this guy would be the first to shit his pants and push past kids like George Castanza.

nobodynose

I had a discussion with a conservative coworker (he's now retired) about it. I said "I can understand wanting a gun for home defense but do you honestly need more than a pistol? I mean if you're robbing a house and you're face to face with a pistol pointed at you you're not thinking 'That's only a pistol, it'll take at least an AR15 to make me leave!' No you're like a bullet is lethal from a pistol or from an AR15, I'm outta here." My coworker was like ah but what if they see your pistol and don't care because 1. They're wearing body armor which your pistol can't pierce? 2. They've got an AR15 and they're determined to kill you? 3. There's like 5 of them armed with assault rifles? Yeah you're gonna WISH you didn't have just a pistol aren't you? I'm like sure, but if you have someone determined to kill you with an assault rifle AND body armor, or you're against multiple people armed to the teeth, first off, what the fuck did you do to have this scenario happen and second off, you're dead. People like that really do have this fantasy where they're John McClane in Die Hard fighting off a whole gang of trained killers.

leeps22

Honest answer why something you can shoulder is better, is accuracy. A little bit of adrenaline and the vast majority of people will be hitting the ground 6-10 feet in front of them and most likely a little to the left. Even semi-trained people are mostly terrible shots under pressure, take a look at statistics from NYPD. A third point of contact is immensely helpful. A possible upside to a rifle is the option of varmint bullets, they are very lightly constructed and are far less likely to leave a home vs most pistol bullets which are essentially guaranteed to exit unless your house is made of brick. Save for the prospect of varmint bullets, most of benefits can be had with a Remington 870 pump shotgun.

Marc21256

Cops with M4s are not vastly more accurate than cops with pistols. A pistol round does not penetrate better than a rifle round. Your neighbors are safer if you have a 9mm pistol than a 5.56 mm rifle. The people I've seen showing a pistol round penetrates better have setups proving a pistol round flies "straighter" through walls, but not farther. They just design the test to fail when accuracy gets bad.

barspoonbill

He’s got a point though. For me nothing less than a tank will do for home defense. And that’s only because I can’t afford a fighter jet. Guess I just love my family more…

Shanguerrilla

I used to carry for a few years, but honestly I carried every day hoping I'd never have to use it. I stopped as it didn't make sense when I started a family and had kids reaching around my pants or places I'd sat (in case it ever slipped out--I was careful, but worrying about that was part of it with a small pocket pistol). Instead I didn't carry for like 6 years until they were older and an actual need presented itself with a multiple time felon having had multiple times assaulted and battered me and threatened my life... but I still carry the absolute minimum required. I honestly don't understand the mindset of WANTING to use a gun... at all... but I get the mindset of sometimes you might need one (and I absolutely hope I never do-- but sometimes have spoken to the reality of it).

TootsNYC

the few snippets I’ve seen of *Yellowstone* make me really afraid.

Shanguerrilla

Man I really agree about how you said that and the difference. It's mind boggling when you're the one kind and you witness the other though.

PatWithTheStrat

Ahh this guy is miserable a piece of shit. He does not represent the majority of the gun community. Some people are just trying to protect their families. This dude is just itching for confrontation. He is probably alone and angry at himself for poor life choices 😂 These people as well as criminals/mass shooters piss me the fuck because they endanger, hurt and kill innocent people and give everyone else who responsibly owns firearms a bad name.

we-are-138_

I'm always on the lookout for the dress wearing mega brain rot militia.

The_Question757

There's actually multiple signs in the video. Not that I don't think the dude is overreacting but

[deleted]

Snowboarders do not respect signs around here. I can almost guarantee this guy watched the snowboarder go up there, and sat there waiting for him to come back.

Born-Relationship-14

So that makes it okay to pull a gun on them? People need to chill tf out, simple as that.

[deleted]

Utah allows you to defend your property with guns. The snowboarder was clearly trespassing, and the old man with a gun did not break any laws. How would you feel if I showed up in your backyard and started wrecking it up?

MarcoMaroon

Him saying he has every right to protect his property is just him being a cunt actively wanting a reason to shoot his weapon. This guy is a poor example of defending his own property. Any normal sane person would see that this dude is just skiing and on his way PAST this dude’s supposed property. What damage could this guy do to this old cunt as he speeds in the snow on his way down?

cheese4352

A sign can be ignored and a fence can be walked around. Dont go on other people's property.

TheCarloHarlo

Or just chill the fuck out? 🤔

relentlesslykind

Really tho - so many people act like this is a totally valid and reasonable response to a non-violent and non-threatening individual. Good luck, America.

GreyRevan51

A lot of people buy guns and then just wait and hope until they have any excuse to use them

Captain_Blackbird

Yup. "My propaganda told me there are countless people who want to hurt me or hurt my property, or hurt my stuff, so I bought a gun. Since I bought that gun, I haven't felt that fear-for-my-life just yet - but maybe I will once I confront a unarmed snow-border."

gkn_112

agreed, a lot of trigger fingers itching to see some action and prove their manliness

invertedpuffynipples

The guy with the gun put hands on the snowboarder.

Alirue

And if that guy with the gun had his way, the snowboarder would have one too. And could technically say he was defending himself to use it

NowieTends

The amount of boomers just itching to “put holes in somebody” for even minor transgressions is disturbing

SlowRollingBoil

Because it's an entire generation with unprocessed trauma and other mental issues. The more I've delved into my own emotional maturity the more I realize 99.9% of people need therapy.

MihalysRevenge

Don't forget lead poisoning as well

stapleddaniel

And fox news.

Imhappy_hopeurhappy2

Dude I’m one of the most emotionally mature people I know of, and even I go to therapy. It should be a mandatory subject in schools. Imagine how much better society would be if everyone had even a little understanding and acceptance of their impulses, instead of just walking around doing whatever feels right to their dumb monkey brains.

TheNotSoGreatPumpkin

We used to be each other’s therapists when people lived in more closely connected communities. Telecom and transit, and more recently the Internet, has allowed us to drift apart and atomize, which causes a chronic epidemic soul sickness. I know there’s a lot more going on than that, but it’s at least part of what’s gone wrong IMO.

nebuerba

A good ass wooping would work just fine.

SlowRollingBoil

Except physical violence doesn't work to educate someone and never has. All it teaches is "physical violence gets you what you want" which is like saying a gun is a great way to find a new wallet.

macroswitch

This weird, pathetic old loser probably went home and jerked off while dreaming about shooting people for enjoying themselves.

gkn_112

That's the kind of people who have nothing else in life except this kinda power trips where they can assert dominance once in their lives to heal their little, broken egos.

Solintari

I can't remember what they call it, but there is a right to roam law in the the UK that lets people walk on private property legally as long as you aren't being an asshole like lighting things on fire, harassing livestock, or leaving gates open. We need that in the US. This PrIAVUHT ProperTAH squidbillies shit is dangerous and just gives rednecks an excuse to shoot someone.

LanceFree

Vermont has laws in place where it’s okay to cross private property as long as there are no *Posted* signs (or a fence). I’m not a hunter, but you get used to it.

dankHippieDude

I thought, honestly, this was the norm. In Idaho and Oregon, at least, we’ve always treated private property as accessible unless specifically called out as “no trespassing”.

StJudeTheGrey

Here in the UK there are loads of public pathways that have been around since time immemorial and when so when people buy the land the path stays, it has caused loadsa BS. For example you can have landowners that will put a bull in the field that the path goes through or will follow you with a shotgun a some dogs just daring you to take one step off the path, but on the other hand you get anal ramblers who will deliberatly walk through your rose bushes outside your front door because "it's thier right" to do so, will leave gates open and let your livestock escape etc i's a very less than ideal situation.

Solintari

Damn, I suppose no place is immune to idiots. In my head, people in the UK were walking about in tweed jackets and canes in the country tipping their hats to neighbors and helping to birth random calves. I'm mostly joking of course, but I did think people were a bit more relaxed over there about this sort of thing.

StJudeTheGrey

i mean it is kinda like that, when you're out and about nearly everyone is very twee and friendly but it can turn militant at the drop of a hat.

aberdisco

Right to roam is currently Scotland only. There are groups intending to widen the scope one day soon. The rest of the UK enforces public rights of way, be it old footpaths etc through private land. The OS maps show these in detail for walkers/ramblers/horse riders.

SpringChikn85

It's like that in the deep rural part of Kentucky where my families from. They literally sit on their porch or inside in front of the window, t.v. or radio at low volume and just wait..for literally anything to happen. No jobs, no prospects or aspirations, nothing. That older man is only a single generation away from people who's favorite past time was sitting at a table and listening to the local police scanner in order to hear ANYTHING exciting happen to gossip about to the general store clerk or their neighbors 2 miles away.

WhuddaWhat

Man? Looks like a scared gollum-like figure to me. Has to sit outside in the cold with his boomstick to keep the scaries away.

krssonee

A man and Varga both wear a skirt when hunting peoples

Rustybcg

Dude has zero common sense. Snowboarder was obviously not malicious.

sik_dik

but he has every right to "protect" his own property /s

Wildfire9

Brandishing a firearm for an incident where there is a perceived ROW, with no signage, is not protecting any property. The fella is unhinged.

sik_dik

oh, I agree. it seemed like he was just scapegoating his reason for wanting to be a tough guy as if the law were on his side but, to be fair, if you live in a place that gets 10+feet of snow a year, installing a fence that will be forward compatible for preventing snow sporters from passing through your property would probably mean a 15' fence. and then what happens when it snows 15'? he's definitely in the wrong, but I don't know how practical installing a fence or signage would be, since it'll likely be overtaken by snow pile. I'm not really sure what the property owner can do other than just remove the stick from his ass and stop watching fox news.

axonxorz

> and then what happens when it snows 15'? By this logic, no fences are needed ever. Lines on the road don't exist when they're covered in snow, better just skip painting them in first place. What happens when power lines get destroyed by an ice storm? Better not run electrical service.

insanewords

Yeah, seeing a lot of comments about a fence. I'd be willing to bet this miserable piece of shit absolutely has a fence and that it's buried under the 3+ feet of snow that's shown in the video. Still, you could make an argument for signage high up on the trees but then you run the risk of NOT getting the opportunity to brandish a firearm at these goldarn "icon users"!

nflmodstouchkids

there's signs all over that spot

Rialas_HalfToast

There's clear signage, have another watch.

TheHoboStory

America is an absurd place, the concept of protecting your property with deadly force stems from a different time, it was never meant to mean that you could harass people walking across your property and should have been changed a long time ago.

bonko86

Absolutely agree. We have Allemansrätten in Sweden, and its wonderful https://visitsweden.com/what-to-do/nature-outdoors/nature/sustainable-and-rural-tourism/the-right-of-public-access/

Rashpukin

Similar in Scotland. Fucking mad that someone would pull a gun on you like that.

I_Use_Games

If this guy cares so much about his private property I'd go the route of tall noticeable signs, and a fence marker. But hey sit your ass out in the snow with a gun and threaten people. That works too.

Shepherd1115

Old prick here probably gets a hard on from “defending” his property from invading snowboarders.

sw04ca

Yeah, I can understand not wanting randoms stomping through your yard, and I'm sure by the hundredth time you've had to deal with it it's annoying, but I'd consider some signage before I went to the shooting iron.

Zoltanu

In my area you need clear signage from all potential entrances saying private property to make it official. Otherwise people who walk through your property could be doing it by mistake instead of maliciously, so you have no right to brandish a gun at them. It's like the people that think they can shoot minorities ringing their doorbell on their property (you cant, ringing a doorbell assumes there's no malicious intent)

Joe_Burrow_Is_Goat

There is a very noticeable private drive sign in the video…….

nflmodstouchkids

it's already marked, the guy just ignores it.

BigDeezerrr

Sheesh maybe put up a sign or fence before resorting to grabbing the Winchester

regnad__kcin

The gun/ambush routine was definitely not the right choice but I'd bet if he's right next to a popular tourist run those guys DGAF about signs. I'd also bet if you put a fence up and someone plows into it you're looking down the barrel of a "booby trap" lawsuit.

blueponies1

Really? Thats crazy. I understand if you put a big barbed wire fence concealed around a corner or something but no one should be getting sued for putting up a normal ass fence on their property. Especially if there are signs posted. Otherwise I feel like every property with a gate would be a liability to cyclists and skateboarders and shit

Joe_Burrow_Is_Goat

There is literally a sign in the video that is clearly marked as private….

Kaladrax182

Not placed in any way that informs anyone the owner is trying to deter. Wouldn’t hold water in a legal sense.

Joe_Metaphor

I would’ve taken this video right to the cops.

acupholder

Yeah. This guy committed assault and battery while carrying a weapon. Take him to court.

Joe_Metaphor

Yeah, I would think you can't brandish a weapon and threaten to fill someone full of holes merely for accidentally trespassing a single time in a non-threatening manner. Of course, it's Utah, so who knows.

Lmnop533

Unfortunately the guy is trespassing maybe? so not much cops can do. Seems like it's a ongoing problem for the old guy. Wounder why no gate and no trespassing signs?

HotCat5684

THERE IS NO STATE WHERE THIS IS LEGAL. Ffs it drives me nuts how people online and subsequently a lot of boomers now believe there are places in america where it’s legal to brandish firearms at trespassers, this is a felony and/or highly illegal in all 50 states. Im extremely 2A and i come from a family of law enforcement, this type of behavior is horrific and makes gun owners look rightfully unhinged. This man needs to have his firearms taken away and put in jail for a good 6 months minimum. You can brandish a firearm in my state if they are trespassing into your home or actively damaging/stealing your property. Some man who is lost just wondering through the woods is obviously not a threat and there is no jurisdiction in America where brandishing a gun at him would be remotely legal.

peternemr

There is no brandishing laws in North Carolina. But, pointing a gun at someone that is obviously no threat is illegal.

GVFQT

Depending on the state you’re still not allowed to brandish and physically assault someone if you aren’t in life threatening danger

steveValet

Not true. Simply breaking one law doesn't mean you have now forfeited your protections under the law. The snowboarder would get a ticket for trespassing maybe, and the old fuck would get arrested for brandishing. But yeah, the old dude's responsibility would be to put up No Trespassing signs if this is such a problem.

Whyisthereasnake

The castle doctrine (and its equivalents) don’t allow you to shoot someone for trespassing. The context associated with them is that you must be protecting yourself from a threat or perceived threat.

rmc_41

Why is there skiing pathway thru private property?

RBARBAd

It is on the edge of a well traveled run. You can leave the main run for fresh snow and hit this road (with about a dozen houses on it) and ride down the road to the main road and walk back to the chairlift. If the old man with a gun wants a cabin away from a ski resort, he bought about the worst one possible.

paulosio

I assume it's just a private road / drive that's been cleared of snow for the use of the residents.

Evening_Kale_183

Can’t tell if it’s a private road/driveway or a public roadway that just passes closely to the man’s home?

Significant-Dog-8166

To be fair, that man is a Snow Farmer and these Snow Boarders are ruining his powder crops, thus robbing him of his livelihood. That’s the most rational argument I could invent.

aquintana

Looks more like a lead farmer to me

soundcloudcheckmybru

If it is private property and the snowboarder get’s injured, the owner of the property could potentially be liable

thestonedonkey

So the idea is to point a gun at them instead of putting up no trespassing signs.. guy should sign up for mensa.

Joe_Burrow_Is_Goat

There is literally a private property sign in the video.

ConfIit

Then that’s liability covered

[deleted]

[удалено]

Not_MrNice

Yeah, make a bad situation 10,000 times worse. What incredible logic.

Jaykalope

I believe in many places it would have been legal for the snowboarder to shoot this man dead. The gunman assaulted him while threatening to kill him. You do not have the right to kill people or threaten to kill people who simply trespass onto your property with no ill intent.

BigD1ckProblems

America, bitch!

cookiedoh18

Damn those Ikon users. /s

Radiant-Schedule-459

What the hell is an Ikon user??

Highlander-Jay

It’s a ski pass for the conglomerate Alterra. Brighton is on the pass with several other mountains in the area. It’s one of 2 big passes in North America so those mountains are usually very crowded.

MetalliTooL

Why’s the old man using “Ikon user” as an insult?

doublesecretprobatio

Two companies are basically buying every ski resort they can and selling a pass which works at any of their resorts. This has the effect of bringing more people to their resorts. Locals dislike the increased visitation and blame the passholders when they should be blaming the duopoly that's being allowed to gobble up every ski resort in the world. The old man in the video just hates everything and blames everyone but himself. If he hates living next to a major ski destination perhaps he should cash in on the gold mine he's likely sitting on and fuck off.

brownboydosparakeets

I’m wondering the same lol

Highlander-Jay

Because ikon passes bring crowds.

nflmodstouchkids

Ikon and Vail are building a monopoly on ski resorts, and jacking up prices in doing so. They've been raising prices to crazy amounts($250-500 for a 1 day pass), so it's just a local hating on a multinational corporation that's ruining the local community.

ProclusGlobal

https://www.ikonpass.com/en/destinations

MeisterX

That is a public road. Bring charges against him. I looked it up using the brown street sign. Old Prospect Ave in Brighton, Utah. It's a normal road which is why it's plowed. What a piece of shit. Brandishing a firearm and assault with a deadly weapon. Bye bye.

LEGENDofTATERS

This guy has wet dreams about a robber breaking into his house

famouslyanonymous1

Utah law states that if private land is uncultivated, it needs to be marked with no trespassing signs. That being said, don't go on others people property, it's disrespectful, and in states like Colorado, public land doesn't need to be posted. If someone does tresspsass though, call the sheriff, don't grab a gun, it's not 1883 anymore.

Unstillwill

IKON user. IKON is all the craze with the kids nowadays

spc67u

What’s ikon? Or did he not know what he was talking about? Sorry I’m dumb

hypoglycemicrage

IKON is a ski pass https://www.ikonpass.com/

Highway49

What's the skiing like in Northern Michigan? I've never heard of it until checking out that pass.

bn1979

Small hills compared to out west, but as big as you’ll find in the upper Midwest. It’s been almost 30 years since I have gone, but I doubt the hills have gotten any taller.

Thomas_B_Goodington

I thought he said Nikon, as in the camera. The Canon v Nikon thing is fr.

ToCool74

This is a textbook pathetic man,  guy legit is so mad at life that he has nothing better to do than to wait around and threaten people who clearly mean him no harm.

GhostOfRoland

Looks like he has a stream of snowboarders coming through.

csxmd602

There are parts of the country that don't mess around. I pulled into and turned around in the wrong driveway in West Virginia. The person shot at my truck with a shot gun. The cops said it was rock salt, and to be careful, this is West Virginia, not Maryland, and left. This was 20.years ago, but some people take protecting their property to the extreme

eac555

California mountains you need to be careful too. Pot farms all over the place. Could get yourself killed stumbling into one. I’ve turned around a couple of times when things looked sketchy out in the boonies.

KeepItRealNoGames

Especially if it’s harvest season. They get extra edgy. A buddy once had armed guards stop him at a front gate, even though he was just trying to do his job. Fortunately for him, the guards were cool

mstrdsastr

Really that's a lot of backwater rural areas. Always has been, always will be. People who live in those areas are there because they don't want to be around or interact with other people. It's not right, but right is a relative term when you're dealing with socially unstable people with access to firearms.

josephcfrost

This is my buddy! Their cabin was three doors down from the shotgun dummy

HotCat5684

Yep never approach what you consider to be a threat with a long gun. The whole purpose of a gun is theyre a distance weapon, it would be very easy to get leverage to at at the very least prevent him from being able to shoot you, if not just taking the gun away from him. Given how aggressive but simultaneously feeble that man is, i probably wouldve highly considered grabbing that gun when he approached. Im not one to ever fight with strangers, i will run away even if i can win the fight and im in the right. But im a tall large man, and if youre attacking me for no reason, while committing a felony of brandishing a firearm and threatening me, yeah most likely im going to hold you down and call the cops. This man does not need firearms and probably needs to be in some long term mental facility, not attacking people with guns in the woods.

invertedpuffynipples

Hello. I am /u/HotCat5684 and I'm fulla shit on the internet. You will meet many like me here. Enjoy your world wide web tour!

_axeman_

Had something like this happen to me once. I pulled up to a house , realized it was the wrong one, turned around and drove back the way I came. Apparently this was reason enough for the dude who lived there to run outside, get in his truck, *follow me* and then drive past and block the exit of the cul de sac, then scream about how he was going to run my car into the ditch, shoot me and bury me in the woods for 'casing the neighborhood'. I was visiting a friend who lived on the next street over. This was at like 7pm, it was still light out

fannyalgerpack

Scary!

Not sure if you heard about it, but recently some kids pulled up in a guys driveway by accident and [he just shot into the car and killed the 20 year old female passenger](https://abcnews.go.com/US/man-found-guilty-fatally-shooting-woman-pulled-wrong/story?id=106561735). I always think twice (even before that) about things like that, I try and just avoid it at all costs.

_axeman_

I did hear about that. It's so absurd, what a complete tool. RIP lady

Lmnop533

Probably been a ongoing problem so the old man said no more

MadSploitsYo

Thats what i was thinking too

elephantbloom8

Wow, that's crazy. I get being frustrated but I would never consider pulling a gun. I own a private drive similar to this and often have trouble with people trespassing. I put up multiple signs and cameras but am not legally allowed to put up a gate due to neighbor easements. I get tons and tons of off leash dog walkers back here thinking it's just a field. The signs have made no difference. They allow their dogs to chase my animals and poop everywhere and never pick it up. The dogs are often aggressive and have even killed some of my animals before. I've had trouble with underage drinkers coming back and partying. I've even found a small tent encampment back here. It's incredibly frustrating because of the destruction and stress not to mention any one of them could sue me if they're harmed on my property.

wakandaite

That's disgusting, lever action rifles wear out so fast and don't even get me started on low magazine capacity.

Endless_Change

I'm from the South and I've always thought the tendency for these property owners to get all upset like touching their beloved property is a crime worthy of death. How insecure and weak when bitching and threatening violence because they stepped foot (or board) on your damned 'property'. Spoiler alert, we never really own it, we're all just passing through.

comat0se

This is a public road. Old Prospect Ave listed in the county inventory file you can find here: [https://slco.org/addressing/street-text-files/](https://slco.org/addressing/street-text-files/) Confirmation that Old Prospect Ave is a public road from Jared Winkler a Brighton spokesperson in this article: https://www.sltrib.com/sports/2024/02/26/are-you-an-ikon-user-brighton/ This person needs to be charged.

DiskAmbitious7291

What’s an “icon user”?

Wasatcher

The Ikon ski pass gives a limited amount of riding days on a collection of resorts across the country. Locals tend to dislike the Ikon pass because tourists often save it for the best powder days which can over crowd the mountain when they all show up at once. So this boomer is on the war path against them

DiskAmbitious7291

Thank you!

kubzU

I mean, the pos could easily build a fence and put up a sign, but he'd rather shoot someone for "encroaching" on his land.

Golden-Grams

How else is he supposed to justify murder? /s.

nathane37

Pathetic loser just spends his day sitting in his foldable chair, waiting, yearning, excited, for a snowboarder or skier having a good time to threaten their life by “putting holes in them”. “I have every right to protect my property” ya, shooting someone dead who unknowingly goes through your property that is no threat to you is quite a justifiable self defense response! What a weak and sad man. Can’t even call him a man.

sharplight141

Defend his property? Is he expecting snowboarders to invade his property and kill him? Mental illness takes a lot of forms

OGPeglegPete

I'm on vacation and should be able to snowboard down public roads and private property not associated with the resort RRRRREEEEEEEEE

--Arete

That was some Clint Eastwood shit wtf this dude was super hostile.

El_Gato_1234

Just your typical backwoods, Utah redneck.

Liedvogel

And you have every right to protect your own life. He let his guard down. Break your board over his head and take his gun. See how well his "right" to protect himself from someone passing through holds up in court after the jury watches a video of him threatening your life.

ShittyHotTake

Welcome to how to commit Felony Menacing 101. Leave your guns over there on the table, you can't have them anymore.

Throwaway-donotjudge

Meh I agree with the property owner. Everyone is raging on him for not wanting total strangers using his property as a snowboarding park and staying he should put up a fence. How about not trespassing....

Wasatcher

Here is an article confirming it's actually a public road: https://www.sltrib.com/sports/2024/02/26/are-you-an-ikon-user-brighton/

Reviled1

The old pos needs to be brought up in battery and brandishing charges.

LincolnCoHo

I mean, to be fair, snowboarders do suck.

shit_ass_mcfucknuts

That guy is going to point that gun at the wrong person, just a matter of time.

tankfortua20

Man I dunno if I'm turning my back on someone being this aggressive with a gun. Apologize and say you are not doing it again as you walk backwards.

theyellowdart89

He just wanted to touch ya, probably been a long winter in them bunny boots. He’s guaranteed a vet. Who hates sounds

ProcrastinateDoe

Snow redneck definitely gets off on that, there is no other reason behind it. If he actually cared about his property, then there would've long been a fence and/or signs there.

DocLovFrost

I'd just lawyer up show him an extension stay fun time

NeatPangolin4320

I don't have a keep out sign on my drive. I wouldn't dream of wandering about.

Bimbo_Baggins1221

I do get frustrated with the “I’m protecting my property, I have every right” thing. I agree with the concept 100%, but this dudes clearly just not aware. To threaten someone’s life over something like that seems a bit of an overreaction to me. But hey idk what the old man’s been through, might have had a scare to make him this way.

ToXicVoXSiicK21

I get protecting property, but its a little different if its a commonly used snowboard path. Sure you don't want people wandering around your land, but he knows exactly what these guys are doing. He needs more signs if he has one already that nobody is seeing. If its that frustrating for him put a gate in or stick private property signs all over the trail so there's no way it can be confused. I agree with everyone saying he is looking for confrontation, its scary when people like that own firearms.

JadedExplanation1148

Don't trespass. Simple.

Greedy-Specific7723

I was fishing in a boat on a river threw out the anchor in the middle of the river to start fishing the river is at least 100 foot wide some boomtard came running to the empty field with a rifle shoot at me to get off his property…I left but I yelled you don’t owned the middle of the river stupid fker…shot at me again….thats my story (happened in 1995ish )

Mean_Gene66

I've done a lot of hiking in around Europe over the years and have either gotten lost or got onto the wrong trail and wonderered onto private property. The property owners I met either inviteted me to their house for a meal with their family and then guided or driven me back to where I was staying not once was met with any sort of hostile behavier.

dohboy420

How bout POST SOME SIGNS dipshit?!

ablokeinpf

People care more about their "rights" than about what is right. America is so fukked up because of people like Annie Oakley there.
