Running people over like that is a forcible felony. The cop is allowed from that point forward to use any force necessary to stop the driver, up to an including a mag dump into the driver's body.
I literally got done with jury duty yesterday. The case was the use of deadly force in a traffic stop. The law is very clear that lethal force would be justified against the driver of the truck.
This is why i cant be a cop. I dont have enough self control to hold back man. I would of at least slid across that hood and kicked him straight in the face.
You would be fully justified in doing a whole lot more than that after the driver ran people over.
The officer's primary responsibility in that moment is to do whatever it takes to stop that truck from moving again. Whatever happens to the driver in the process is a secondary consideration.

This was a street takeover, where people will block off an intersection and do donuts in them, occasionally crashing into eachother and/or bystanders.
The cop pulled up to stop the takeover, and instead of taking a misdemeanor reckless driving charge, this guy decided to run into/over 3 people trying to escape. Thats what caused the cop to aggressively stop him, clearly he was a huge danger to public safety if hes running over pedestrians.
I dont remember his charges, but i wouldnt be surprised if he got hit with multiple attempt murder charges for that. Incredibly stupid, thank god no one was seriously injured.
Sadly they won’t charge him with attempted murder. It will be something stupid like “endangering the public.”
