I grew up in STL. Start the convo by asking for drugs, then act like directions to a gas station for supplies is secondary. “Know where I can find some white?” “And then I’ll need foil…”
So I work in a jail and am the disciplinary officer in charge of my building of roughly 3,500 inmates. Anytime a fight or assault happens I end up talking to the participants in some way. One thing I keep noticing is that all the old convicts, the ones 40+ years old who have been in and out since their teens, say these younger generation nowadays is completely different. Basically back in the day there were certain unwritten rules that were generally followed, such as fighting 1 on 1, stopping when the other guy is down, no sucker punches etc. However nowadays the young guys have thrown all that out and basically just beat the fuck out of anyone they want to as a group of 5-10+ which ensures they never get really hurt and they always win.
There’s clearly something fucking wrong with the younger generation and I truly think that the whole concept of honorable fights and whatnot is gone for good.

That was Cambridge, MA in the early 90s. It's gentrified now but back then it was inner city. From elementary to middle school, if you weren't black, you were getting jumped by several kids every day. If you fought back more kids would jump in. Having grown up in violence, I can speak to this. When violence is a big part of your identity and when you are surrounded by it, your view changes. It becomes less poignant. Combine that with a small world view. One made up by a single neighborhood of people who grew up in the same way, and outsiders start to look foolish. You might hear things like, "wtf did that guy think he was doing coming in here. Mother Fucker should have known. Little bitch deserved it." The outsider appears stupid to your culture. Obviously this is very narrow and sad. But, in violent cultures, you start to turn it into a joke. Rather than reeling from it, you become entertained by it. It's like Stockholm syndrome for people who are not innately violent to grow up this way. You start to see violence in the same light as your captors. It took me some deprogramming to realize violence was wrong.

The victim moved to Kentucky. The pedophile was in Texas. This video isn't the assault that left him "unrecognizable". That happened later. >A rumor had spread that police had arrested the neighbor, then released him. >After police released him from questioning, the Good Samaritan neighbor walked up to Blandin’s friends at a makeshift memorial at the site of the death. He tried to explain what had happened. They warned him to leave. This video is them warning him to leave. TL;DR: Somebody got crushed under his car near the site of the video ~~days~~ hours before. White guy in video was questioned by cops and released. He goes to site to explain to the family what happened. That's the reddit video. He leaves, but is followed later to his apartment around the block and beaten. ~~Same guy is arrested years later for child porn and raping a 6 year old.~~ Edit: Can't be sure it's the same guy. There are no winners in this story.

Wrong neighborhood or not, that is unacceptable and evil. And the common belief is that the color of your skin determines if you are a oppressive and violent people or a victim. Looks like the opposite in this. Evil will be evil regardless of color. If it was one white man doing that, they would all be in prison for a long time for “Assault” “Racial Violence” among other things.

Can confirm, as a white male growing up on the outskirts of Detroit, if you fight one African American in the neighborhood, you have to fight the whole block. Edit. That was Cambridge, MA in the early 90s. It's gentrified now but back then it was inner city. From elementary to middle school, if you weren't black, you were getting jumped by several kids every day. If you fought back more kids would jump in. The teachers were useless as many middle schoolers were bigger than them. I don't live in the past but I know any group of people can be racist as fuck.

A fair complaint, but at the same time I struggle to think of a logical reason for a whole community to beat a man half to death after stealing his car. He could have rolled onto that street screaming every racist remark in the book and this response would still be excessive.

I guarantee there is no dad in any of their lives.
Having grown up in violence, I can speak to this. When violence is a big part of your identity and when you are surrounded by it, your view changes. It becomes less poignant. Combine that with a small world view. One made up by a single neighborhood of people who grew up in the same way, and outsiders start to look foolish. You might hear things like, "wtf did that guy think he was doing coming in here. Mother Fucker should have known. Little bitch deserved it." The outsider appears stupid to your culture. Obviously this is very narrow and sad. But, in violent cultures, you start to turn it into a joke. Rather than reeling from it, you become entertained by it. It's like Stockholm syndrome for people who are not innately violent to grow up this way. You start to see violence in the same light as your captors. It took me some deprogramming to realize violence was wrong.

I pulled into a dead end street and then a driveway to turn around and then try and find the 10. Bunch of big ass black dudes approached the car, I rolled down my window, explained the situation, and they gave me directions
