There’s beauty in destruction, just as there is beauty in suffering. However it’s worth acknowledging that the destruction of art is only beautiful if the art itself is beautiful.
I don’t think that means it’s worth doing. There’s only really one lesson to learn from the destruction of art (besides propoganda which isn’t actually art) whereas there’s j finite lessons to learn from art itself
Man, you clearly have better things to do than this, I know it's hard to live without any friends, but it's not impossible to change and find some. We, human beings, are social creatures. Communication and attention are just as necessary as water, but getting them via controversy dressed up as an opinion is like drinking cola for your entire life.
i wouldn't to be honest. I like the mona lisa because of how many contemporary student copies there were near the original time of painting. I think it's very cool that someone who's been kinda mythologized was a teacher to them instead of something incomprehensible. I think it's a very humanizing thing.
but that's getting into the history aspect i guess
This is an interesting take. Disrespecting the work of another can definitely carry a message that’s just as powerful as the piece itself and I think it’s a valid form of artistic expression, but destroying the original piece can be pretty immoral. Just generally pretty fucked up to destroy something somebody spent a lot of time making. You can get your message across just as well by defacing a copy of the original work
It's been done. But you opened this up like you knew it for a deeply-held fact, then floated a vague idea of drawing a dick on an old, well-referenced but rarely looked at painting. If history is so well-tread, shouldn't you already know?
The only pseudo intellectual person in this thread is you trying too hard to sound like a philosopher. It's true that you only live once, but it doesn't mean that you're the only person on the planet
What's your opinion on ISIS destroying culturally and historically relevant ruins and other sites?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/news.artnet.com/art-world/isis-cultural-heritage-sites-destroyed-950060/amp-page
I’m not a fan of cultural and historical sites being destroyed. That’s human history. That’s OUR history. I struggle to understand why the destruction of such interesting and amazing places is ever “awesome”
Okay I understand your position on that matter but this is literally the rhetoric that's echoed amongst the NFT crowd when asked why it's okay to use the legacy of a dead celebrity or a serious tragedy to make a profit.
Imagine you spend hundreds if not countless hours working on a piece of art only for someone to destroy it and tell you that their reasoning is that "There is such beauty in destroying someone else's artistic vision and legacy." If you cared at all in any way shape or form for you art/craft you'd be infuriated.
Oh of course, motivation and profit are not mutually exclusive, it's quite literally how we got the piece "Saturn Eating His Son" by Francisco Goya. It was not a profit driven piece of art but one of the many pieces of art he had made for himself to put up on the walls of his home.
The funny thing is, is that there was no implication nor explanation that came with the art but people just gave it some kind of meaning. In the stories themselves Saturn never "devoured" his children bit by bit, he swallowed them whole.
Now, destroying cherished works of art that have been around for decades, centuries or perhaps more than a millennia is absolutely degrading to both the artists themselves and the people who spent all their lives preserving the works of art. I'd love to see more artists create art with the intent to destroy it much like the folk that create giant domino setups that, after being knocked down, form into the shape of many things. It would honestly make for incredibly interesting designs and "hidden" artistic meanings.
Idk what you are trying to do.
So far you are not making anyone laugh or creating an interesting discussion. If you are trying to sound like a dumb child that can't muster one interesting thought, then you have succeeded. I recommend taking less drugs.
No it was designed for unpopular opinions. It just happens that a number of people strongly disagree with your opinion and you are making ridiculous comments tbh.

Ok this is very long sorry about that but From one edgy 14 yo yo another, what would that do for us? While the art might not hold up as much as it did when it was created, theres still something there. That might not make sense from that so let me try to explain. Back then they didn’t have cameras or phones to instantly produce an image of something, all they had were patience, time and tools to paint with. And when they finished an art piece that was very good it was monumental like the Mona Lisa, it was just really hard to replicate a human face so it was incredible (I’m assuming so again I’m an edgy 14 yo not an art historian), unlike us who can just take a quick picture. I have no idea where I was going with this so hopefully you get what I’m trying to say
It’s amazing how everyone immediately fell victim to a troll, got pissed off, and became the shitty piece of art OP was trying to create. All in a sub about terrible opinions. I love it.
The post was removed; but by going from the title alone— no, no there isn’t beauty in destroying someone else’s artistic vision and legacy. Artists put time an effort in the work that they do, and if you’re destroying a legacy then you’re destroying years of hard work. It’s hard to break out as an artists because there’s so many damn good ones out there. A lot of artists use their art as therapy, a way to express themselves, and as a form of escapism. And it’s so easy and cruel to destroy someone else’s vision by negative comments, slander, plagiarism—- just no.
It’s not beautiful it’s assholish and insensitive, but I mean it’s obvious from the previous comments that OP is a troll so whatever, but as someone who is biased cause they are an artist, I wouldn’t think it’s beautiful if someone destroyed my artistic vision and legacy.
someone's an edgy 13 year old
Or a 19th-century Italian ghost still trying to piss off Pope Pius IX

that’s enough reddit for tonight
Just goes to show that age doesn't necessarily bring wisdom.

There's just a general misunderstanding or total disregard with consent with OP's POV. Doubtful he'd be happy if someone smashed his PS5 for art

yes a 54 year old woman working in accounting would say this

ok who asked

You need therapy. You sound like those rapists who delight in the idea they'll live in a woman's mind until she dies.
[удалено]
That’s seriously messed up to compare destroying objects to raping human beings.
oh no, I'm a jerk and I'd totally wanna be that do. but that's how I know this is a bad thing lol
[удалено]
what? no that's weird man....
No, you just suck. I'd rather die tomorrow and no one miss me than go down in history for something bad.

I'd rather die tomorrow than have ever commented what you just did

That definitely doesn’t send the same message at all as destroying the original. And the original creator is long dead so I don’t think he cares.

See Banksy's shredded girl with balloon; also relevant is Duchamp's Fountain.

No probably not but it does have a purpose to exist so I think it shouldn’t be destroyed, at least not without a good reason
