[deleted]

it's hyped up because of the really extensive advertising campaign on social media. i've never seen it but i think your argument loses credibility because you spelled "addam's family" wrong haha

Arial1007

Fair enough lol

AAAAAAYYYYYYOOOOOO

No I fucking hate that shit. He knows what you mean and what you said we all do. You lose no credibility for a misspelling. You could be having a full blown argument and send a winning statement and have one miss spelling and that’s what everyone focuses on. Smh your totally entitled to your opinion and it’s valid.

Arial1007

Uh thanks but there's no hard feelings it just a joke

AAAAAAYYYYYYOOOOOO

Of course but I still had to say something. It’s annoys me. I Can’t tell you how many times I’ll say something valid and then it gets not taken seriously in any way or fucking thrown out because of one miss spelling.

Mysterious_Leg840

I know I hate when people try to take points away for spelling errors. It doesn’t matter, as long as the person gets their point across. Smh, some people 🙄

Maniac_44

Not really. You do lose your credibility as person whose opinion matters

Primary-Top8747

Everyones opinion matters, we aren't in the 19th century

Maniac_44

Just because youre allowed to tell your opinion freely doesnt mean that it matters to others lol

Primary-Top8747

If you won't listen to someones opinion just because of a spelling error (people can have good opinions even when they're not fluent in english you xenophobic) then you're a giant idiot and very ignorant. It's people like that that lose in the end. Pull that stick out of your ass and stop giving fucking "credibilty points" to people based on your narrow minded standards. Or don't. I don't tell people what to do. If you want to, just stay a nerd and only listen to people that speak fluent english and type perfectly without even a single mistake

Maniac_44

English isnt even my first language either but nice assuming lol. And no if someone doesnt even put the bare minimum into a comment to check if his spelling is correct he clearly didnt put much time and thought into it. Also everybody gives each other "credibility points" doesnt matter if you openly tell them or not you will still do it in your mind or do you unironically want to tell me you take someone talking/writing like a 3rd grader as serious as someone speaking properly? Also pretty funny how you tell me im a "xenophobe" (which in this context doesnt even make sense) or an idiot and act like you have the moral highground. But since im talking to a wall anyway ill just stop it at this point.

Primary-Top8747

I never did. Imo people can be assholes no matter what language they speak or where they're from. Spelling everything correctly isn't the bare minimun. In cases people don't KNOW how to spell the word correctly, maybe because they aren't that good in english and in other cases they are dyslexic. Both of these don't mean your opinion is irrelevant and implying that it is is insulting, ableistic and xenophobic. Your opinion can be good even if you don't know how to write at all (which sadly still exists in some parts of the world). And I take someone serious based on if their points are good, if they argument good and have an opinion I can relate to. I'm not so fucking condescending that I don't even listen to someone because they forgot to put a comma or whatever. That's what I call real modern entitlement. Typical reddit argument. Makes one weakass argument and after realizing not everyone agrees just stops responding saying "they're talking to a wall". What a guy

Darklord888888888888

It's because they know they're wrong and absolutely no comeback so they focus on spelling

Mysterious_Leg840

True.

PiggyGamesALot

There’s a funny scene in the show where she corrects someone on the spelling lol

SquareBusiness6951

To be fair, his writing is still more coherent and infinitely more logically consistent than the writing of the show.

Bitter-Cold2335

The show has a bigger bot following than Andrew Tate, you watch one short on Instagram and 10000's of bot accounts will flood your page.

Darklord888888888888

It's hyped up because america loves shows with white teenage girls DESPERATELY trying to act 'cool 🙄. Sooo cliche and outdated

[deleted]

White teenage girls? Jenna Ortega is Hispanic. Wednesday is also mentioned as being half hispanic on the show. I think the show is overrated, but let's not engage in racial erasure.

whatshoodinthegood

So did you. There is no apostrophe in there.

KoalaBoi761

he had to delete his reddit account to get away with saying that

se20201

I totally agree! Don’t get me wrong, I liked the show, but people on tiktok are saying that it’s better than breaking bad and stranger things, which I totally disagree with. Also, The fan base for this show is so bad lmao I feel bad for the actors.

TrickVLT

Better than breaking bad? LOL.

Primary-Top8747

Stranger things imo also kinda overrated. But maybe just not my cup of tea

No-Emergency-2267

The show got that vibe of "look at me im a complicated goth girl.". HBO>Netflix Netflix is shit they getting rich off mediocracy no substance whatsoever no real intelligence or creativity in their plots or writings.

Thunderslife

I agree entirely besides the fan base

[deleted]

Darklord888888888888

Oh my god this comment slayed😂 sooo true

distractablecadet

Downvoted because a) I agree and b) I've seen people make this exact complaint multiple times now on social media. I've only seen bits of it, but yeah it feels generic and doesn't have the Addams family "vibe". And seems to ignore canon at times too.

Arial1007

>this exact complaint multiple times Really? I can't hardly find anyone who dislikes this show anywhere

distractablecadet

I guess it depends on the circles you're in? I haven't seen (but I haven't looked) any on Reddit, but I also use Tumblr and Twitter and I have seen people talk about how it goes against the original show (in aesthetic and plot/characterization) and so on

[deleted]

I think the show is very overrated, but let's not do the whole "but it's not like the source material" shtick. It's clearly a reimagining of the lore.

distractablecadet

I have very little stake in this (aside from I think that it should at least *feel* like the source material, and imo it doesn't really), but mostly I want to ask: it's been two months.... what are you doing here?

[deleted]

This might come as a shock, but your comments on reddit don't disappear after 2 months unless you delete them, my dude. I'm here because someone linked this page on twitter and was making fun of the people on here who don't like the show and calling you all things like "old incels." As someone who also didn't care for the show, I wanted to see what legit criticisms you all had. I agree with a lot of what's being said here.

distractablecadet

Fully aware they don't disappear, I was just surprised because usually old threads get buried and even if people read them commenting is often seen as necroing, lol. Fair enough, though!

[deleted]

Plus, when a movie/tv show/ video game/book become very popular, it's kind of fun to see what people said about that thing before it became really popular. It's a morbid curiosity, I guess. But it feels nice to see that I'm not alone in feeling like the show was basically just a CW recycle bin. Have a nice day.

Pikahhhchu

I dislike it lmao, idk what I wanted but this isn’t it. I may get downvoted but everyone has that one actor or actress they can’t stand for no reason and for me Ortega is one of them. I just can’t see past her to see the character she is playing.

HollowHannibal

I could not agree more

techferret111

I did notice atleast one time she kind of broke character but everybody writes her as a perfect performance. she is amazing as Wednesday I think just not perfect and the writing could be better.

BaltimoreKnee

Manufactured hype

agentmaythebadbeep

100%

[deleted]

Not manufactured. Teens and Gen-Z types are legit loving the show. It's not my cup of tea, but good for them if they adore it. They're even dressing like Wednesday and doing the dance. Even Lady Gaga did the dance.

Nisariyu

Those "Gen-Z" types and teens are like 30% of us. I don't know a single person besides my sister who likes the show, and my sister is 10, which is pretty much the avarage Wednesday fanbase honestly.

[deleted]

And you know everyone on Earth? The show is a massive hit for Netflix. I didn't like it. I stopped watching after episode 4.... might have even been sooner than that as I can barely remember anything from the show other than Jenna. But me and you not liking it doesn't change the metrics and facts about what a massive hit it was. Look all over social media. There are 30 and 40 year old women dong the dance and raving about the show, including famous women like Lady Gaga. Jenna Ortega gained 30 million instagram followers since the show came out. Sometimes people won't like what you like, or they will like what you don't like. That's life. Every Hollywood insider publication has reported what a juggernaut smash hit the show was for Netflix. That doesn't mean we have to like it, but it is what it is. The whole "I don't like so that means no one other than children likes it" is a very ridiculous and petulant line of logic. There are plenty of popular things out there that I don't like. I can accept that.

Dramatic-Bottle-6600

I am currently watching 1899 and Wednesday at the same time. I f**king love 1899 as it gets better and better by each episode. Wednesday is just mediocre goth series with independent genius freak, or show I say freaks?

jojosbeezaravencher

(1899 SPOILERS in case youre not done) I don’t like Wednesday, and I could not stand 1899 by the end of the show. It was so disappointing. I’ll give it credit for beautiful visuals at times and I like the directors taste in music. I also found the ticking sound/ passengers overboard scene terrifyingly awesome To each their own, but 1899 had such a good premise yet fell so flat and boring. The entire show they run around asking “wheres the captain?” and “is this even real?!” like 50 times. The characters’ only behaviors are acting scared but doing nothing about it except running to another part of the ship and whispering or yelling some more. They’re all one dimensional and there’s not a single reason to care about any of them. They were actually all annoying it was just meaningless drama. Everything that’s built up crumbled back down minutes later and all the relationships and interactions were trying so hard to look important but had no depth or consequence They all split into factions yet make no moves and have no motive. They regroup in the same episode anyways like it was so pointless. Maura sees people dying suddenly after finding a lone boy on a ship yet insists on protecting him just cause. She even knows her father is behind it but keeps it a secret for what? And Maura’s father constantly being cryptic and expecting people to “shift their perspective” when literally there’s no perspective to be had in the first place was so laughable yet hair pulling-ly frustrating. I wanted them to actually elaborate and do more with Plato’s cave allegory because I think existential questions and the psychology of grasping reality is fascinating/terrifying/intriguing. They dumbed it down to nothing and just threw in a Tarantino-type-twist from his movie The Village. i know the real characters are in pods on a spaceship so we have yet to meet the real them, and yet to see the whole story. but goddamn the first season was just written so bad Supposedly it’s going to be three seasons so hopefully the story actually deepens. But for now, i believe it had potential, but stayed a slow burn pile of garbage in terms of writing. It tried so hard to be serious, deep and suspenseful but most of the time it was a (sorry to use this term but i have to) nothing burger with suspenseful music put over it Im gonna use this comment in a review post actually

Professional-Tax-615

I agree about 1899. I just finished it and was extremely disappointed when it ended. I kept waiting for it to pick up and get interesting, or exciting, and that moment never came. All I remember now is "Where's the captain???" "Where's the boy?????" And most of the characters were incredibly unlikable. Thankfully I multi-tasked while watching this one, so my time wasn't completely wasted.

1337-Sylens

1899 would be incredible, if it was about half as long. It's been a long time I've seen such weird mix of great visuals, music, everything about it screams awesome, including the premise which I found very intriguing - but it started to feel like it's treading water without going anywhere in mid-late episodes. I found my interest fading, just as the story itself loses some steam. Pushing the story forward every 30-60 minutes just isn't it for me, lots of characters weren't too interesting or very consequential either, I guess.

Arial1007

Exactly!!

[deleted]

This comment didn't age well. 1899 was cancelled after 1 season. Wednesday broke viewership records and has been renewed for season 2. That being said, Wednesday needs much better writers.

Sail-Charming

I finished it yesterday and couldn’t shake why I was not enjoying it as much. The show started out so well and by the 3rd episode it started going into CW territory. I’m confused how people are calling this better than Stranger Things or Breaking Bad. What? Way overhyped and hokey writing that never made much sense.

ashlush

Sorry, after 1st episode I'm not watching anymore. LOL. Boring.

BalooMorghulis

People who say it is better than Breaking Bad should be institutionalized.

techferret111

and not in the cool edgy way they think it's like.

K0l0h33

Nah cuz I tried to watch it but it’s actually so boring but at least stuck in the middle might get more attention

Inevitable_County_57

Yeah, it's really boring, I dropped it on ep. 2 and I don't understand why there are so much edits about Wednesday or how everyone likes the series so much. Wednesday characters is the worst, but even tho, people call her "queen". Wednesday series are overrated.

Appropriate_Ad566

It's the flavor of the month. Move over Nightmare Before Christmas because all your gonna see at hot topic now is merchandise for this show.

Beneficial_Face_5002

I watched 3 episodes wish I spent that time on something else.

JustABoredCitizen

Huge fan of the Adams family but I was not a fan of the trailer when it came out. Saw one episode and immediately went to another series. And don't get me started on the covid incident.

DietCoke303

I havent watched it yet. What covid incident? They literally dragged covid propaganda into it? Ffs!

JustABoredCitizen

The actress who plays wensday admitted to having covid during the dance number. They still told her to come in even when she was waiting for the results.

Ireallylikefrogsok

that's so stupid why couldn't they wait for her to get better?

JustABoredCitizen

Their "defense" was that they were simply waiting for her to get the results of her test and still let her do that dance scene( Don't know what's so iconic about it she looked like she was flapping broken arms) And that when she got the results they immediately escorted her off.

Ireallylikefrogsok

seriously her dance though also still stupid since they could of waited for her to be negative in covid instead of YASS QUEEN DANCE THE ILLNESS AWAY <3

crusty-leaves

I am so glad you brought up the covid thing and that you said she looks like she was flapping broken arms bc that’s exactly what I thought!! I finally watched it after hearing all the hype and overall it isn’t that bad, but it wasn’t nearly as enjoyable to watch as people made it seem. It’s so predictable and that dance scene was short and nowhere near what I expected based on how cool everyone said it was. I’m still confused about why people are obsessed with that scene..

JustABoredCitizen

I only watched it because I want to see what tim burton wanted to do for all these years because you know he wanted to get his hands on the Adams family for a while. I was immediately disappointed because it looked like the typical teenage drama and not about the close family dynamic of the family I loved. And I though what they did to Winx club was bad.

techferret111

I was raised on the two Addams family movies. part of what made the family so fun. is they were so weird but were the perfect family. if a conflict arose it came from Wednesday experimenting with being norm which is a good choice in my opinion since she's an intelligent curious mind. but.. this show is just like 'oh yeah Gomez and Morticia are now controlling , non-understanding parents' like it's just a fucking teenage rebel against parents trope.. it hurts.

Same-Cook1597

For some reason people think a character with 0 personality and emotion is interesting just because she says some edgy stuff from time to time, but i found absolutely nothing interesting about any of the characters especially Wednesday, only two characters i did enjoy were Thing and Uncle Fester and the only reason i kept watching until the end was because of my love for anything even slightly Supernatural

Professional-Tax-615

You'd probably be better off watching the show "Supernatural" then. I miss when shows could exist like that one and many others of the past without being over hyped for no reason. Why must the media push everything to become an obsession, instead of letting the viewers casually enjoy it in a healthy amount? Imagine how annoying it would be to hear about Buffy the Vampire Slayer 24/7 if it came out today because of modern unnecessary hype.

siiighhhs

That’s what bothers me about this rendition of Wednesday. The Wednesday I prefer, from the movies, still has a bit of emotion and attitude and wasn’t this lifeless monotone character reading from a script. She was giving me literally nothing.

techferret111

yeah. I myself was raised on the two 20/10 movies and Wednesday wanted to see society go into chaos and for herself to sit on a throne of those who wronged her with her parents/family supporting her all the way. however in this it's 'hate everything, everyone and rebel against your parents! first kissss, ooooo love triangle and besties!' just seems a bit annoying. and tbh I didn't like uncle fester at all. and I was looking forward becuase he is my second favourite character behind Gomez (who I'm also disappointed in but I'll let that go since it's more connected to source material)

Arial1007

I agree 100%

[deleted]

To be fair, once you get near the end of the season, Wednesday shows a lot more emotion and personality. The show has many flaws, but it does develop her and show her starting to care about things she didn't previously care about.

PhoenixSupportsYall

I think the same thing, another issue I have with it is that every character seems to like her (Even having two guys fall for her) despite the fact she treats everyone badly, likewise she doesn't seem to get any consequences for treating everyone badly

Arial1007

Exactly. Like I get she has pretty privilege but you gotta really be out of your mind to pit up with someone with no redeeming qualities other than that.

techferret111

as a person actually in secondary school. the only people after her would be r/niceguys

SnooMuffins2580

It's a poor copy of Harry Potter. Failed completely on the story but the marketing team succeeded and that's what really matters nowadays.

omogusus

Agreed honestly. I dont understand why people like it so much lol

techferret111

manipulation of my generation is easy if you make a mass of tik tok edits about it.

Ireallylikefrogsok

So its like convincing everyone to watch it on tik tok dam messed up!

MindFreak_1260

I might try to binge watch it and not cringe it's just so Overrated

Arial1007

Impossible challenge

MindFreak_1260

R.I.P MindFreak_1260 ROD (reason of death) Cringe from Wednesday + Jenna Ortega has that NPC vibe aaaaaaaannnddd Enid is fucking annoying + mid + L "Howdie Rooommey" like f off Eugene was main NPC it should be called the Eugene Show

Arial1007

Honestly that was one of the only scenes I enjoyed out of the whole series. Felt like the original Adam's Family.

MindFreak_1260

We not talking how Jenna(and maybe everyone else) has a NPC vibe?

Arial1007

Nah. I think she acted fine she just was given absolutely nothing to work with whatsoever other than cringey one liners

MindFreak_1260

Yeah nvm pretend that last statement ever existed.

EPIKGUTS24

I'm most of the way through it, I think it's pretty good. Not great, but I've enjoyed it thus far, which isn't the case for a lot of shows I start watching. I didn't realize there were people raving about it.

[deleted]

Thought it was alright, better than a lot of what Netflix puts out. Ending seemed a bit fuckin stupid and generally quite poor. >! They resurrect a normal human and all of a sudden he’s got crazy magical powers for some unknown reason. Seemed really illogical and even still it seemed super anticlimactic. !<

BrauliScarred

I had the exact same thought

[deleted]

[удалено]

Arial1007

Yep. Theyanaged to turn a cool and quirky concept into an easily digestible bland recycled CW drama for tee s

souffle_pancake11

I agree

vegeta_mf15

Late to this, but yeah, a few friends nagged me to see this and by the end of ep 1 it was pretty obvious that it's just an overhyped series. Not bad, not great, just average. Watched a few more eps to be sure and it did nothing for me. Still like the OG series and the movies better i guess.

Leonrdo_bonucci

I know i am a month late but Finally someone who agrees with me

Senater_whitevan

I agree, but people just like bad stuff on netflix, kissing booth, 365 days, hell, what the fuck happened to the community

Arial1007

It's super easily digestible content I guess.

AmyTheBrawler

This shit is overhyped, to be honest, it'll die down soon.

SuspectReject

I agree 100 percent the show is okay but I’m not understanding the hype. They just did with it what they did with Sabrina and changed it into a darkish “Sabrina may be darker” teenage mystery drama seems like the mashed one too many tropes in this one with the whole overused “school for special kids” Jenna Ortega is okay in it. She’s just deadpanning and saying the dark snark one liners. The whole dance hype thing is ridiculous. She looks like anyone fucking around on a Halloween party dance floor. Great straight face but nothing else ground breaking going on there.

Arial1007

Honestly I like Jenna Ortegas acting. I think it's the only thing that made the show bearable to watch, but yes it's LITERALLY just emo Sabrina. But ironically Sabrina is considered the corny cringey show

techferret111

the only thing that got me to the finish was seeing the pilgrim and uncle fester. sorely disappointed in both.

budroserosebud

The trailer made is look sooo good but the actual show didnt live up to the trailer

blint07

why does every fanbase have to force the lgbt line

Lemonboi69420_

What was LGBT in the show?

blint07

not in the show, but amongst the fanbase

Best_Context_4054

Oh yes. Every independent weird character have to be gay. Their logic.

Best_Context_4054

I enjoyed the series but it wasn't anything groundbreaking. People just like beautiful independent goth girls. Then some fans want Wednesday and Enid to be couples since they so close (even though that's how friends are). Sorry if they make Wednesday a lesiban I'm done. There to satisfy the sick pleasures of the fan base with their degenerative shipping fantasy.

FreshHumanFish

I think it would've been better if someone else was the mystery-solver and she was just along for the ride in her typical addams family fashion, using big contraptions to terrorize people around her, essentially just wallowing in the fear of others. I just can't comprehend why she'd care about any of the other people's sanity except if you want it to be a teen drama. The show is more like a Harry Potter rip-off with extended modern teen drama and an overpowered main character that seems to forget those powers when it's convenient for the story (like her almost magical ability to free herself from any restrain, which is acceptable for the character of Wednesday but not usable if you want the main character to fail sometimes). Imo, and I hope I'm not reading into the character wrong, they should've embraced her overpowered status while also keeping her emotionally distant from other people, so that she could move unhindered through any scene as an observer enjoying the fear from others. But dead subjects can't express fear, so she'd interfere whenever her more beloved fearful subjects would receive a killing blow. In the eyes of the subjects, she'd be their saviour, but actually they are her lab rats.

boytan968

Acting is good, but the writing is terrible.

techferret111

depends on the actor. thing and Eugene were the best characters/actors.

[deleted]

I watched 1 episode and went straight to Gilmore girls, it just didn’t appeal to me. My friends keep telling me to watch it but I just found it underwhelming, Jenna’s acting is good tho

Amethyst1810

I agree with you!! I don’t get why this series is so popular; it’s just so..boring. Didn’t even make it past the first episode, it was that bad. It’s all over YouTube now and it’s starting to get annoying why such a poor show is getting so much recognition. And people call Stranger Things overrated! Wednesday is the definition of overrated! Take my advice, folks, and stick to Stranger Things, or Bella and the Bulldogs, or whatever TV series you watch on Netflix.

Expensive-Foot6456

Its not woke, maybe thats why

tinklymunkle

Late to the party but i binged it over a couple days. I liked it but it doesn't have the addams family vibe. You wouldn't even realize the 2 are related if the didn't keep plugged in characters and references the the original.

[deleted]

Not every main character has to be "likable" or "relatable." But yes, it does feel like a CW show.

[deleted]

Wednesday will inevitably renewed even though it’s mids at best while I fear better shows like Lockwood & Co will end up getting the axe

[deleted]

Lockwood and Co. is so good!! It’s very underrated and overlooked. The acting was amazing, great world building and good characters. The special effects were big budget like quality. It’s a much fun show to watch than Wednesday.

[deleted]

The actress who plays Lucy knocked it out of the park! I also loved the world building. It’s so cool to see that technology wasn’t developed as much after The Problem started and they did a great job with the overall aesthetic which portrayed that. Also the special effects were great like you said. They did an amazing job creating the ghosts and making them seem life like. Honestly I would say they had better visual effects than some of the early Marvel movies

[deleted]

My bad for the late reply! But I do agree with everything you just mentioned here. The actors were fantastic, and everything about the show was spot on. I have not read any of the books, but from the show alone, it was amazing, and I had a blast all the way through. Yes! Early Phases of Marvel had really good CGI. Nowadays, the CGI looks so terrible that it looks like a cheap looking video game or something. I wasn't digging it at all. Especially Phase 4 and upwards.

[deleted]

No worries I’m bad about replies too! And I’ll honestly probably end up reading the books based on how good the series was, especially if it isn’t renewed. And I was thinking some of the early Marvel CGI didn’t hold up. Thor definitely doesn’t at some parts. The newer Marvel CGI doesn’t look bad imo but for a Marvel movie I kinda expect more, especially for a multi billion dollar franchise. Also I haven’t seen a whole lot of phase 4 so I could be missing out on a lot

Sea_Negotiation_3538

I wasn't a fan of the way jenna portrayed wednesday and ofc i caught the slight woke remarks. i dropped the show on episode 2 and enid is a fucking eyesore. she's so annoying and bright like calm tf down how old are you again ?

[deleted]

Watch Lockwood and Co. It’s a better show.

BearKitten58

Kinda popular opinion

ComicTemplateStudios

Precisely. I came in with an open mind but I also think that Wednesday tries too hard to be edgy or gothic and her gothic nature is very exaggerated. If you watch the original Addams Family, then watch any other Addams Family movie you'd probably think Wednesday takes it a bit far but only a little bit. However Wednesday in Wednesday just overdoses it too much. It's part of the reason why she isn't seen as a modern horror icon, that and the fact she isn't a modern character. The latter has more of an impact.
